It's funny how Ford is shocked that people might actually want a truck that doesn't cost $50,000+. Fleets have been eating this up as well. I think I've seen more fleet Mavericks out in the wild than privately owned ones.
@@charlestwitchell4634 that wasn't always the case, but it sure is now. And companies like Ram get away with relying on the same stale-ass design in their 3/4 tons for basically the last 15 years, while charging you more every model year.
I ordered a 2023 maverick XLT hybrid on sept 19 2022, when the order banks were open. I ordered the rear hitch, rear sliding window, engine block heater and co-pilot 360. Got it in July 2023. As of now I have 800 miles on. I love the truck and especially the gas mileage. After I got the maverick, I decided to sell my F150 4x4 with 47,000 miles on, and like new. I am retired now and didn't need such a big truck anymore. The maverick is so much easier to park, set things in the bed, zip around in, etc. and I don't have to get a step ladder to check the oil level , like I did in the F150.
My thoughts exactly. As I get older, I really don't need my F-150 FX4 anymore. It's difficult to find a parking spot it'll fit in, and it just guzzles gas. 🤠
Hybrid owner here, my commute is entirely in town and I’ve seen as high as 70mpg going to work. Mixing in highway trips I’m averaging 39.4 over almost 25k miles so far. Love this little rig!
This proves the need for a small pickup did not go away. I have had two small pickups in the 90's. I now have a Colorado. Most people do not want a full-size truck.
Waited 16 months to get my XLT/hybrid. Found a dealer that sells for MSRP, $100 deposit. Got a discount from Ford, $2750, because my order was rolled from a '22 to a '23. Cost was $24.5K, priced one just like it a few weeks ago +6K. Hit the sweet spot on my trucklette. Solid review.
me too. I ordered two. in 22. Unfortunately the second one arrived but then the recall happened and the dealer not allowed to deliver the car with a recall on it. had to wait 8 months for parts. Happy I am now, though.
@@purple2456 The big thing was the $2750 rebate from Ford because the build had to be rolled over to a '23. Option list was relative short, 360/hitch/bed mat. The hybrid was standard, no upcharge.
Coming from a full sized truck owner, I had one of these as a rental for work, and really enjoyed it. It was the 2.0t and was actually pretty quick. Also used the awd a lot driving up fairly steep hills for the work I do. Perfect size also. It was refreshing driving a “truck” that doesn’t feel like piloting a boat. Wish more people were buying these than the stupid full sized and heavy duty’s they definitely don’t need, clogging our roads up…
They would if Ford could make enough of them without hiking up the price. Also.........there's also the dreaded dealership markups to contend with! Even if Ford did sell at 21k you know the dealership would find a way to tack on an extra 8-10k for one absurd reason or another 🙄
If they'd combine the hybrid with the AWD I'd be interested. If I were to get a maverick it would have to be the regular V6 since that's currently the only way you get AWD.
Honestly my friend has one, and it's so refreshing seeing it. Reminds of just a better version of my s10 blazer or my first gen colorado. Most people don't need massive trucks, and now that compacts are the size of 90s full size pick ups, it is refreshing to have true compact trucks back
Sorry to tell you but that's not a real truck. For it to be a truck it has to be body on frame. You are driving a car with a truck bed attached to it. Jackass
I ordered my Maverick XLT Hybrid with lux package in Sept 2021 and I didnt receive it until April of 2023. I have put almost 7k miles on it and it has been flawless so far. I get well over 40mpg around town and it fits in my garage. The best part is that the Maverick is still holding it's value due to the continued demand for it. I am starting to see them in the dealerships now, but it is all I really need in a vehicle.
Great review! Got my XLT Hybrid back in early '22 and after 30k miles, I have absolutely no regrets. Mainly used as a downtown commuter, with weekend DIY jobs, mountain trips, and occasional long road trips, it's averaged just over 42mpg lifetime. Not bad for $25k! Also have yet to get stranded in Colorado winters thanks for some proper snow tires. I would trade in for a new compact pickup with AWD and/or PHEV drivetrain, however. Whether, that's another Ford, or a Toyota, or one of the other brands, is TBD.
How does it do going up and down the mountain passes? We go to Telluride every so often and wonder how it would do power wise going up and down the divide.
Learning now that Tom Voelk is not necessarily a “car journalist” of the establishment type but he makes better content on new vehicles than anything else I’ve ever seen Great stuff!
So many of the so-c called automotive TH-camrs that claim to be "automotive journalists" are nothing but shills for the manufacturers. They are comped for attending car shows and for attending the new car reveals so they can't be unbiased or they will get moved down the list. Another TH-cam channel recently got a Ranger Raptor for MSRP from a dealership in Colorado but that same dealership has a "market adjustment" on the price if the general public wants to buy one.
Enjoyed your refreshing, honest comments; from "free market economy" to "supply and demand" to "walk away." Also, I appreciate the Pro/Con observations. Nothing is perfect. Be a big boy/girl and decide what you can live with and what you can live without. Wish I had gotten off my backside and bought two years ago. Oh, well. Decided to subscribe.
I sold my MX5 RF to get a Maverick. The Maverick handles better than other trucks and smaller than other trucks. I got the ecoboost so the extra power is good. I like it.
I have a 2022 xl and love it. I've had it for 14 months after waiting 11 months for it. No regrets whatsoever for a 19,995 truck. Took a trip this Christmas and added around 3k miles. At times i took it up to 90 with no problems at all. Driving 95 south got in with a caravan that allowed me to go that fast at times. Love my Maverick. Averaged 28 miles a gallon.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. An eCVT in a hybrid is a completely different beast than a traditional CVT. Most eCVT's have no belt, no clutch, no hydraulics or solenoids to make noise or fail. Yet reviewers always seem surprised when an eCVT does not have "that droning noise"... Other than that I absolutely love your reviews!
It is worth saying, though, that I think marketing teams can be fired solely on the grounds of calling an eCVT an eCVT. Names like "virtual CVT", "electric transaxle" or "beltless CVT" give a better idea to consumers that the same technology found in a CVT is not used in an eCVT - only function is similar.
I was not surprised at all, because I also understand the difference between the technologies. What I was trying to say, is that a lot of people expect a CVT type of dynamic. Maverick doesn’t really have that.
I thought "that droning noise" referred to the fact that the engine stays revved during acceleration for a long constant period with an eCVT rather than the traditional highs and lows of traditional shifting transmissions. I don't like how some reviewers complain about it because the point is that the engine stays in the optimum power band. It's how the engine and trans work best.
@@readtherealanthonyfaucibyr6444, yeah, I don't get it too. I drove a Camry hybrid and I think it's a marvelous car, unless you expect your car to make a certain kind of noise for some reason...
I drove a 69 F-100 Ford Pickup for years and thought it was big enough. It was way smaller than most of the versions the last few years that dwarfed my truck. Good on Ford finally making a reasonably sized truck for all of us out here who don't need huge! Great videos, as always! Not sure I would say "boutiquey". Down to earth? Yeah, that is more like it. I drive past the local Ford dealers and they always have a ton of the F-150's, but no Mavericks. Perhaps they should change that?
@@kdrapertrucker The latest I heard is that they are cutting back on the Lightning EV production and shifting many of the assemblers to the Maverick and Bronco. Yay team Ford!
I ordered my 22 before even the initial cost increases mid year. The same truck today is almost 5k more than I paid for it. I feel very lucky to have gotten in early.
We got the hybrid XLT. Only concern was snow performance and, equipped with good winter tires, happy to report it did just fine. As strong as our Subaru we use to go to the mountain? No, but better than other pickups I’ve seen relying on 4WD and all-seasons, and plenty good enough for my daily driving. Averaging 37 mpg with half and half city/freeway. Shop around for MSRP: I saved $5k “market adjustment” by driving 90 minutes to a smaller town.
think before talking about ford? equally owned by Ford Motor Company and Koç Holding. 41% to 41%, they are ethnic Arabs, Iranians or Turks. ford is arab now, You are promoting an Arab product, how immoral of you
Hey Tom, your original maverick review(along with tfl and testdriventv) pushed me to ordering one, currently have 18k miles on my cactus gray hybrid xl! Agile, peppy, and 40mpg yearly average. Great truck for our long weekend camping trips, and hauling all my surf fishing gear, its a great rig as you say, and if its not a truck then its a great suv with a bed and awesome powertrain!

The door keypad is one of the best inventions ever and I don't know why other car companies don't implement it. Nissan used to...As for how it works with keyless entry - you can only lock the car with the keys inside using the keypad. If you try locking it with one of the lock buttons with the keys still inside and then you close the door it will honk and unlock. But if you use the keypad to lock the car it will stay locked.
Years ago, I had a 1998 ford explorer, it had the 5.0V8 and all wheel drive. It had the door keypad. One evening a few days before christmas, I parked the explorer by the main door of a big box store to load a big item in the back. The vehicle was running as it was cold outside, I was in a hurry and must have hit the power door locks when getting out of the vehicle. I was locked out, but in about 3 seconds I had the doors unlocked, by just punching my code in. The keypad is a must have.
I have a 2020 Lariat F150 and I can lock the key fob in the truck when I lock it by pressing the bottom 2 buttons at the same time. It stays locked. I can unlock by putting in my code or with the Ford Pass app.
Too bad Ford eliminated it on the 2024 model, which ticked me off because I have one on order. You can only get the keypad as a stick-on add by the dealer with a non-replaceable battery.
Had a 23 for a year now. We love, love, love it. 42 mpg. Kid's roller derby gear and it's stank stays in the bed. Great on a road trip too. We ordered a 2nd one but sadly couldn't take it due to the Hollywood strikes shutting down work. Someone in LA is going to be so happy with the Lariet we ordered.
My XLT hybrid turns 2 in May. Love it. 22,000 miles. Averaging about 38 mpg (I’m in NH). Very, very happy with it. Great review Mr Volelk! Keep up the great work. Your channel is the standard by which all other car review channels should be judged.
My XLT turned two in March. Hybrid and it has been back to the dealer many times for a parasitic draw/low battery situation. I only have 10,000 miles on my Maverick because the dealer has giving me loaners for up to six months now. The Parasitic draw seems to have started a year ago when I bought a separate car to drive around and left the Maverick in the garage to preserve it. So not driving the hybrid every day is an issue or only using eco mode.
"They can always take an Uber" Love it! So true. I deal with this all the time with my Camry Hybrid that I bought for my retirement so I can afford to go places without breaking the bank. Friends complain often about my car being too low making it more difficult to get up out of. You know, 30 years ago before the SUV and Pickup craze, ALL cars were sedans and station wagons that were ALL low to the ground just like my Camry. We managed somehow and were healthier and more agile for it. Sorry this is off topic for the vehicle tested. It just struck a chord with me and gave me a new saying for all the "whiners" getting in and out of my car, "Well, you can always take an Uber!" Lol! 😄 Very nice review by the way. 👍👌
I'm only 5'7" and I really do appreciate the low bed sides for reach in. I had a 2014 Nissan Frontier that I could reach in and touch the floor of the bed, but the new Frontier I can no longer do that. I love small trucks.
I love the last 2 minutes of this video. For 2 years I wanted a maverick and they sparcly started showing up in my area. I did pay about 4,000 more than I shoulda simply cause I wanted one. And have been very happy with my truck. 6 months later the same dealer I got mine from hasn't had one since.
I am not surprised to see the Maverick success. It is based on the Bronco Sport and i have the badlands and i love my baby Bronco. It uses more gas than the maverick hybrid (but it has 250hp 277 ft lbs and 2200 towing capacity) but it is very good for me in Canada in the snow and all terrain and very good interior, very good screen and audio. We love our Ford Bronco. The maverick must be good.
I've Had A Maverick Hybrid For 12 Months Now And Simply The Smartest Thing I've Ever Done ! At Age 75 Years Young That Is Saying Something ! Lots Of Compliments Also ! Thanks YOU Ford !
This review is exceptional, I really appreciated it. I ordered a 2024 Ford Maverick July 2023, and it is February 2024 and I still have not received it. However, my stand by car salesperson contact me about a 2024 Maverick that someone did not accept - I have decided to take it! Thank you for all of the information about the Ford Maverick!
I ordered the Base XL Hybrid in 2023, waited a few months, and have not been disappointed. Only accessory is the trailer hitch w/ wiring (at only $100 who wouldn't?) Find a dealer who will order for you with no added up-charge above MSRP. I used Wiscasset Ford in Wiscasset Maine! They were great! Their doc fee is only $35!! Yes, only $35!! Maverick is just the right size for my needs and is so wonderful to drive. I have used it for carrying many items that I would not have expected of the little truck could carry. I always get 40+ in the city....32 mpg on the highway at 70mph. Longevity?...unknown now.
Just got my hybrid lariat and I’m loving it so far, still on the same tank from the dealer from 0 and just got 500 miles with it, and it’s reporting another 40 to go, so mileage is insanely good
Tom, for those wanting to bash the Maverick as it's a unibody pickup are forgetting, or completely ignorant of the fact that Ford once had a unibody F-series in the 1960s. My 2.0L AWD has managed 34 mpg highway and I'm receiving 23 mpg with my daily commuting with winter conditions. I'd say the biggest changes I'd consider making would be the ride could be made a touch less truck-like, sound system could have better door speakers(though they're not the worst), and why doesn't the luxury package on the XLT include push button start. Sure, I could pick at a few other things, but none of these things would be a deal breaker on a vehicle of this price. For what it is at the price I paid it's a great little vehicle. It's economical, quick, fun to drive, versatile, and maneuverable.
I ordered a Maverick hybrid in July 2022. With options the MSRP came to $27,005. It finally arrived at the dealership in January 2024 with a MSRP $5400 higher than when I ordered. The hybrid which was the standard engine when I ordered had become a $1500 option plus there had been price increases by Ford. Even with the "private offer" by Ford of $3000 it was still $2400 more than when I ordered. So I told them to keep it. As consumers until we stop playing the manufacturers / dealerships games they have the power. It's time that as consumers we start taking back the power .
Yes Tom you can lock the fob in the vehicle if it has push button keyless start. Just put the fob in the vehicle and push the bottom two buttons and the key pad at the same time.
I got my 1st Edition in April of '22. I replaced an almost new SR5 Tacoma that i was able to sell used more than the new fully loaded Mav. I love my Mav.
Love love LOVE my maverick XL Hybrid. I waited a year and a half for it. I have heard many people say to rust proof the under side so I treated mine with fluid film. Plenty of salt here in the North East
We genuinely wanted to pick one of these up this fall. The dealer addendums and the overall experience left us fairly disappointed. Both the dealers we went to denigrated the Maverick and tried to put us into full size trucks. The other issue was the nearly five thousand dollar addendum. We bought a Honda Ridgeline instead. Hate to say it but the Dealer network is killing Ford. I refuse to pay a "market adjustment" just for the privilege of driving their vehicles. Makes me wish Honda made a full size diesel so when I am ready to replace our F350 we would have another option.
Just checked this out at the Anaheim auto show. Super cool and the back seat is roomy enough I can sit behind myself. 42mpg city is awesome for 80% of my driving. The XLT Hybrid with black out appearance package and trailer hitch is $34k that’s an honest deal. I saw that QR code but I didn’t scan it, but great they include DYI plans for cargo in the bed! I’d like to be able to haul to dirt bikes, 250 cc in the back and I think that would work with the bed down and all those tie downs all over the bed! Really well thought out. I also like the buttons instead of a big iPad that you have to spend minutes flipping through to find how to turn on the AC. Thanks again, Tom for a nice refreshing honest review.
I had 2 Fords for a decade and loved the keypad. It's handy at work, I could leave my purse (and key) at my desk and put things in or out of the car. Keyed or keyless you can't start it w/o the key. Now I drive a Nissan and miss the combo pad, but it's my 1st car that you just unlock by touching the door handle with the key on you, which i really like.
I've had an 08 Escape Hybrid for ~8 years. I think it has a similar drivetrain to the Maverick. The thought of "pickupizing" it crossed my mind a few years back but I got an old Ranger instead. I much prefer the Escape for urban use. 0-60 acceleration isn't bad but highway passing (50-80mph.) is excellent. I'm cheap when it comes to cars and haven't bought a new car for 40 years. I'm looking forward to picking up an old Maverick for a few grand some time down the road.
Like Toyota, Ford should put the hybrid in as many models as possible. It’s a no brainer for customers. Pay $1,500 more, get $$3,500 back over 5 years.
Pay around $6000 for a new battery 8 years later from purchase and unforeseen heightened rates to maintain the hybrid system. It’s a gamble how long those batteries may go.
too many old priuses running around debonking your theory @BarcelonaBlitzer ... Most of y'all ain't keeping cars long enough to be worried about the replacing that hybrid battery😂
@@jermainec2462 Guess Toyota and Ford share the same quality batteries with maybe 66% battery health those years down? 👀 Lord knows my iPhone 8Plus had that life 4 years later and it wasn’t gonna be cheap replacing its battery for the cost of phone…
@BarcelonaBlitzer They might share a battery, but how do we know whether they built the same... and anyway, I've just called it like I see. I see a whole lot of old toyota priuses running around going about their day ... And I still got my belief that iPhones were being slowed down on purpose. To make you think you needed a new battery thus you needed a new phone ... That's the type of bullshit I think apple was on, lol
@@jermainec2462 True, I just don’t know if Ford has the quality/supply Toyota has. I want to believe Mavericks will hold up like Prius hybrids, but a family friend of ours has been bringing his first year hybrid Maverick to the dealer for issues. Fortunately it’s under warranty as I imagine labor rates are higher with it. Could be first model year/lemon. I personally want to get a Ecoboost, but wish they made the fuel system dual injection like they updated the 2.7 and 3.5 to avoid carbon build up. That is a good and fair point on Apple sabotaging iPhones haha
I knew there was something else I liked about you Tom! Besides your take on vehicles. You’re a runner! I’m an older guy runner too! At least when I’m not fighting plantar fasciitis or any other multitude of ailments. Lol. But I love my running! Happy running to you!
4 months ago I bought my '22 xl hybrid used with 50K miles on it. I absolutely LOVE this vehicle. My only regret is no cruise control, although I will likely swap the steering wheel button clusters and reprogram the computer to give me that. What a beast this thing is. I get about 37 mpg average. Stellar. And... I can flat tow it behind my (future) RV purchase when I retire in a couple of years.
Great review, Tom, as always. I waited a year and 20 days to get my 2022 XLT Hybrid, and after a year and a half could not be happier. My last truck was a 1998 Tacoma, and I couldn't go more than two hours without getting a backache. The Mav (as you rightly observed in your initial vid) is a great long-hauler -- smooth, quiet and comfortable. Mine has the brake-grab issue at very low speed that seems to plague some Mavs, but I haven't noticed it for a while. Also could use an audio upgrade -- its system is mediocre. Thinking of getting a PHEV version when available? I'd suggest staying with the regular hybrid to keep the weight down and help keep the gas engine (and 12V battery) in shape, especially if you're a mostly city driver like me. I would consider trading for an AWD hybrid Mav, but other than that expect to continue happily motoring in my '22 Mav for years.
Great review! One thing that most people miss when they review vehicles especially like the Maverick (Hybrid) is that it is also a vehicle that can be flat towed behind a motorhome, which is an important feature and good to know.
I just purchased my '24 Maverick Lariat Hybrid yesterday! Love at 1st drive❤ I didn't know that it existed until two days ago. I am paying pretty good for it😢, but I am happy.
I’m a F150 owner and gotta say I really do like the Maverick a lot, it looks like a truck unlike the thing Hyundai put on the market with a face only a sight impaired person could love. I think it’s exactly what the truck market needed and if Ford would have concentrated on building more of these than the battery powered crap like Lighting and Mustang E it’s hard to tell how much they’d made, the people that know the least about anything are working for the government!!!
Ford is the master of adding storage spaces. Just look at their Rangers and F150 and Expeditions. The most useful forme are: holder above infotainment 2 gloveboxes on the passenger side, multiple slots beneath the midconsole
Wife is a sculptor. We bought her a Mavrick Lariat Tremor to deliver her pieces to her clients and cart material. Its an awesome truck for that. Hard working but not so much truck it creates issues.
I've had my Maverick Hybrid since Feb 2022. got 80k miles on it now and still feels like new, love the truck. The tires are rated to last 70k but they still feel smooth although they are getting replaced this year. No real issues except the recalls but 70% are simple fixes or software updates. MPG on HWY average of 39., in the city I've gotten 46. and yes, the sync 3 interface is about the main thing that gripe with. works fine most of the time but acts up when it wants
No other manufacturer is making a vehicle like this at the moment. With so many different drivetrain variations and trim levels available in this particular truck including a front wheel drive hybrid I am very impressed !!!! Ford has really stepped up and done something different with this vehicle even if the plastics and the build quality could be a bit better. 🇦🇺😎👍
I waited 17 months for my Maverick XLT Lux. I really like it. Not a fan of one of the updates that possibly put it in limp mode but overall it’s been a great vehicle for my needs. I wish, in the redesign, they did a lift up trunk space in the bed, to throw groceries or “Christmas presents in” like another truck on the market has done. Thanks for the review.
I just took home a brand new 2024 hybrid xlt. It was a little wild they had one available but so far I'm happy. I miss some of the features and capabilities of my Ram 1500...but 40mpg sure is nice!
I haven’t sat in the back of the new Tacoma but I heard the Maverick has more rear and front leg room plus this little truck delivers more payload than most Tacomas as well. The industry needs to take note, there is a huge demand for a well packaged, versatile, efficient, and value conscious small truck, or any size truck fur that matter. Living on a rural farm this little hybrid is super attractive vehicles most of the errands and trips to town that don’t necessitate the full size truck.
I was looking at a Maverick and I went with the most basic XL model. They wanted an $8,000 markup along with 1500 of transportation fees. At that point it was stepping on Lexus territory. On top of that the Ford dealership would not give me a deal unless I went with their financing options. The cheapest financing option was 16%. My credit score was well into the 800s and this is just completely unacceptable...
My local Ford Dealer in Reno NV also had a ridiculous markup...so I bought my 2023 Tremor Maverick at a different Nevada dealer that had no dealer markup but it did have a "destination & delivery" fee of $1595 that was on Ford's "window sticker" which seems to be the cost of buying a Ford vehicle shipped from Mexico. I had no trade-in and did not finance the Maverick. My impression is the bigger the city any brand of vehicle dealership is in the more mark-ups they tack on.
All cars have delivery fees, though I think nearly $1600 to ship that vehicle is inflated a bit. Seems like a profit margin to me. But good for you for shopping around!
The dealership near me in Michigan has about 10 of them that I can see sitting in their lot. I don't think they are selling as well since they jacked up the price, and the newness ( is that a word) has worn off.
I see a lot of Mavericks being used as company vehicles. I have even seen them with ladder racks installed. Seems to be enough truck to get many jobs done. For people who have employees on the road all day the gas mileage must be a welcome relief.
I just bought an XL 2024 hybrid. I’d been following these and all their issues and well Ford doesn’t have the best reputation for reliability. When dealers started price gouging well above MSRP I stopped looking. This truck is not worth more than MSRP. Finally I found a dealer that gave me MSRP after their usual stupid hidden fees. I still don’t have faith that it’ll last 100k miles without some major issues so I plan to sell before then. And the Toyota Stout will be out by then. And Toyota is the king of reliability
I get the idea you save money on fuel with hybrid, but truck owners are usually keeping their trucks for a decade or longer. Some of the hybrid power package type of vehicles have costly issues when it comes to repairs. I think it makes sense to save money upfront, deal with higher fuel costs, to avoid hybrid service/repair issues. I especially fear Ford products, which as a brand has lead the recall charts three years in a row. Maybe Maverick is better when it comes to other Ford products.
It’s frustrating Ford hasn’t updated the 2.0 Ecoboost to Dual Injection like its mainline 3.5 and 2.7 engines to prevent carbon build up. I agree to reconsider the hybrid system too.
I don’t know what truck owners you know. Most I know are trading in every 3 years or sooner. I heard one owner say “My 2021 1500 is getting outdated I’m looking to upgrade to a new 1500” Here I am with a 2017 hoping to get to 2037 😂
You must have wealthy people in your area, because no one I know is trading their $45,000 and up trucks just a few years after getting it. I met someone early the pandemic that got $5,000 from the dealer on top of what they had paid a year earlier to sell their truck to the dealer, but those were strange times. Where I live, most trucks are over five years old. I still see those classic two door 11980's Toyota trucks cruising around, usually with gardening equipment. :) @@Lq32332
Trucks have, by far and away, the shortest "first owner" timespan of any category of vehicle if you remove fleet/rental/commercial sales an focus on consumer/residential.
Kevin, I agree with you. My latest video shows that my AWD costs $10 more per tank for a lot more capability, especially in mud and snow. Now that the hybrid costs +$1500, it will take 150 hybrid fill ups at $10 less to break even.
I own a pest control company and this would be perfect for my business. I am not sure I want the CVT transmission, but the nice trim package makes it $30K, it's a lot cheaper than other trucks and may pay for itself with it's mpg and features.
The Hybrid used to b the base model, then it out sold the EcoB. and now Ford decided to raise the price by $5k on the Hybrid and make it the “upgrade” model. typical Ford Greed at its best!
I own a 2023 Maverick hybrid. I laugh when I see so many guys driving full-size pickups with no passengers and nothing in the bed. I know they spent twice as much for the truck and are getting terrible gas mileage. Loving my Maverick hybrid utility and gas mileage.
My old ram 1500 is 20 yrs old with 256000 miles. It guzzles gas but I dont drive much now. i average 30 miles a day. if my old truck dies, Ill consider a maverick.
I’ve had a 2024 hybrid Maverick XLT for a week. Been liking the speed, mpg, and accessories compared to 2019 F150 XL. Both are fleet trucks I wouldn’t pay for either tbh.
It took Ford 18 months to build my friend's '23 hybrid (she placed her order the day ordering opened) which ended up being a '24 with a different color (they discontinued Area 51), wild wait time but an excellent vehicle. She regularly gets 40 MPG and doesn't exactly drive with efficiency in mind.
I absolutely love my Ford maverick XLT hybrid with a luxury package. So far since I have driven in over 2000 miles I have averaged 47 miles per gallon! Most of my driving is city and Rural Roads at 55 miles an hour. I would highly recommend this vehicle! Yes, I know it’s a long wait to get one or try to find even a used one but trust me it’s when you should put on your list.
If Toyota offered their rendition of this, equipped with eAWD and the full on Hybrid Synergy Drive system, they'd sell every single one they could make here. Basically taking everything good about this, but adding more power, AWD and the most reliable powertrain in the world would make it perennial winner.
@@tri3pleagent It would be more than $26k since it would offer considerably more. My guess is it would start around $30k (not sure what a RAV4 Hybrid starts at in the USA).
@@jeffer1101 a RAV4 hybrid starts at about $32k. The point of my comment was to point out the appeal of the Maverick, other than utility. It's cheap. For those looking for a basic vehicle with pickup capability, there's simply nothing else on the market.
@@tri3pleagent Ok, so my guess is it would likely sell for $32k then (I assume it would be about the same price as a RAV4 hybrid since it would likely share most of its platform/powertrain/parts). While that is $6k more than the Ford, you get AWD, quite a bit more power, and likely better fuel economy, reliability, resale value and warranty (I am not sure what Ford offers for hybrid warranties though). Also, if Ford dealers are slapping on extra money to the MSRP, maybe that narrows the gap (assuming Toyota doesn't do that). I can't speak on the "over MSRP" part as that is not allowed where I live (it's illegal). Even without the extra fees, it would just give another great option in the segment and I would imagine many people would spend the bit more to get the Toyota version since it offers a bit more to those who want it.
We have a family friend who has an early hybrid and has spent so much time in the shop. Maybe the bugs are worked out now. Just wish Ford committed to updating the 2.0 engine to dual injection like the 2.7 and 3.5 for longevity.
I installed a catch cans kit with hoses from UPR on my 2023 Tremor Maverick. Dual injection is a fix but who knows when the 2.0 will get it. I must have the AWD Tremor package because I live in the rural northern NV mountains with unpaved roads plus snowy winters. I also have an older F150 and F250 (both 4wd's). I got the Tremor Maverick to put fewer miles on my more thirsty & much more expensive to replace big trucks.
i have the 24 hybrid in this color and it looks damn good in this video. i run mine with the amber lights on too. it looks nice because you can see the truck better 😅
It's funny how Ford is shocked that people might actually want a truck that doesn't cost $50,000+. Fleets have been eating this up as well. I think I've seen more fleet Mavericks out in the wild than privately owned ones.
If Ford keeps raising the price $5000 a year, they'll also be surprised when demand plummets.
Pick up trucks are the biggest consumer scam since the time share.

I have a 2021 ranger and I love it. The mpg could be better but it’s great overall.
Thanks for the info..How much, if you don't mind..TY
@@trublu2556 I sold the f150, 7 months ago, for $13,000
congrats! and good luck with it. please keep us updated!
Hybrid owner here, my commute is entirely in town and I’ve seen as high as 70mpg going to work. Mixing in highway trips I’m averaging 39.4 over almost 25k miles so far. Love this little rig!
Holy cow!
Hybrid are the way to go. I currently have a CR-V sport touring hybrid and the gas mileage is GGRREEAATTT!!
This proves the need for a small pickup did not go away. I have had two small pickups in the 90's. I now have a Colorado. Most people do not want a full-size truck.
As a full time carpenter with a Tacoma and a box truck I agree. I drive the Tacoma a lot more than the box truck.
Ordered mine last year and got it the other day, I absolutely love this truck
Waited 16 months to get my XLT/hybrid. Found a dealer that sells for MSRP, $100 deposit. Got a discount from Ford, $2750, because my order was rolled from a '22 to a '23. Cost was $24.5K, priced one just like it a few weeks ago +6K. Hit the sweet spot on my trucklette. Solid review.
me too. I ordered two. in 22. Unfortunately the second one arrived but then the recall happened and the dealer not allowed to deliver the car with a recall on it. had to wait 8 months for parts. Happy I am now, though.
ok how did your get that price for the maverick???
@@purple2456 The big thing was the $2750 rebate from Ford because the build had to be rolled over to a '23. Option list was relative short, 360/hitch/bed mat. The hybrid was standard, no upcharge.
Coming from a full sized truck owner, I had one of these as a rental for work, and really enjoyed it. It was the 2.0t and was actually pretty quick. Also used the awd a lot driving up fairly steep hills for the work I do. Perfect size also. It was refreshing driving a “truck” that doesn’t feel like piloting a boat. Wish more people were buying these than the stupid full sized and heavy duty’s they definitely don’t need, clogging our roads up…
They are buying every one Ford can build. Over 90,000 last year. Outsells Tundra. Outsells several of the midsize trucks combined.
Jackass
I wish they would make a single cab Maverick, use the added space for a longer bed.
I own one. I like it. Took awhile to get it. I paid $27,000 after all costs. Ordered it at release. Stripped model.
Yep im waiting for plug in hybrid 4wd to come out. Such a great platform

I'm an indépendant. Which lets me cover cars the way people actually use them and avoid the hype.

I sold my MX5 RF to get a Maverick. The Maverick handles better than other trucks and smaller than other trucks. I got the ecoboost so the extra power is good. I like it.
@@demonsaint1296 , nice. Personally, I'd go with the hybrid. eCVT should be super reliable.
@@solderbuff haven’t heard many issues with the eCVT.
I have been getting 30ish mpg with the ecoboost. Not a lot of stop and go driving mind you, mostly 55mph driving.
So you are saying this transmission doesn't have a belt? That would almost convince me to buy!
It is huge if you compare it to the original Ranger.
@@TinLeadHammer True enough! I like the size of the Maverick better.
There are making them as fast as they can, they are bought up as they leave the factory.

Ford has been doing door keypads since the 1980s.
@@alliejr Right, which is why it's crazy no one else is doing it.

This is a useful truck and the right size for most uses for moderate to light work! Good one this time Ford!!

Just got my hybrid lariat and I’m loving it so far, still on the same tank from the dealer from 0 and just got 500 miles with it, and it’s reporting another 40 to go, so mileage is insanely good
My '23 Mav lariat hybrid has been perfect.
Ridiculous. If you ordered it they should've honored it. I would go on yelp and review them telling people that they don't keep their promises.

unfortunately these dealers are short-sighted and out to make a quick buck
Yes Tom you can lock the fob in the vehicle if it has push button keyless start. Just put the fob in the vehicle and push the bottom two buttons and the key pad at the same time.
We have the exact same truck but a 2023. Same black color and black package. We love it.
I got my 1st Edition in April of '22. I replaced an almost new SR5 Tacoma that i was able to sell used more than the new fully loaded Mav. I love my Mav.
I wouldn’t go around telling people that!
Love love LOVE my maverick XL Hybrid. I waited a year and a half for it. I have heard many people say to rust proof the under side so I treated mine with fluid film. Plenty of salt here in the North East
I, also, work for coffee. LOL I wish I was kidding. Great review and thanks to you both.
Since that original price was pure nonsense perhaps the 2024 is more in line with the competition. Great review!
I'm sold. This truck seems like a gem
Still interesting to me but markups are insane on these if you can even get them
Shop. My brother just got a hybrid for MSRP.
Did you have any issues with the Escape Hybrid? I'm thinking of buying a new one to replace my 2010 Mazda 3.

@BarcelonaBlitzer They might share a battery, but how do we know whether they built the same... and anyway, I've just called it like I see. I see a whole lot of old toyota priuses running around going about their day ...

I personally want to get a Ecoboost, but wish they made the fuel system dual injection like they updated the 2.7 and 3.5 to avoid carbon build up. That is a good and fair point on Apple sabotaging iPhones haha

For people who really need a truck this is soooo needed! Im makeing a naive wish to replace 80% of monster "full size" trucks with this
Great review!
The most useful forme are:
holder above infotainment
2 gloveboxes on the passenger side, multiple slots beneath the midconsole
If I didn’t need to tow my camper, this would be my truck of choice.
Wow Patrick 40k per year. I bought 2 I show in my content to spread the miles so each lasts longer at the original low 2022 price.

Wow 17 months Marcia! I waited 7 for the Mavs in my videos and that was tough.
I will have my XL 2023 in May 1 year and I absolutely love it and I would do it all over again if I had the chance!
Curious if you tried another dealer
I am in Ohio and can’t find one. Care to share the dealer
Excellent as always - even when one is not remotely interested in owning the vehicle that is being reviewed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I heard one owner say “My 2021 1500 is getting outdated I’m looking to upgrade to a new 1500”
Here I am with a 2017 hoping to get to 2037 😂
You must have wealthy people in your area, because no one I know is trading their $45,000 and up trucks just a few years after getting it.

Great review as usual, Tom. Thank you! Love your content…
My Maverick will fit in my Garage! Love it.
Buying my 24 this weekend. So very excited! Great review.
Haggle hard!
This one here is my favorite and dream spec with black appearance and copilot 360
I'm getting 47.5 MPG on my Maverick Hyb. love that little thing
The Hybrid used to b the base model, then it out sold the EcoB. and now Ford decided to raise the price by $5k on the Hybrid and make it the “upgrade” model.
typical Ford Greed at its best!
Funny how haters dont mind calling this a truck, but for the Honda Ridgeline...they say it's not a truck.
My Ridgeline has been flawless for over 6 years
I own a 2023 Maverick hybrid.
They're laughing at you too. The circle completes itself.
@@mexifry222 yup and crying at the pump lol

I have an F150 with keyless entry. The keypad works the same. That keypad is one reason we keep buying Fords.
Thanks, I figured as much but best to ask the person who owns one.
BTW I am a fellow former Minnesotan. Love your reviews, I need to start funding you!
My next car as an Electrician Apprentice until I journey out!
The hybrid was originally cheaper than the ecoboost.
2.0 is great.i love it for travel.
I have to say I think this might be my next truck. Right now running a 2005 F-150 on its last legs.
Do it! I like the Mav so much I bought 4 that I show in my videos.
Well done, Tommy ! A VERY informative review. You're a credit to your mother's womb.
Great, do you hear any high pitched tones from the engine?
@@camaroboss6425 no none.
Uh, wonder why mine did that?
If Toyota offered their rendition of this, equipped with eAWD and the full on Hybrid Synergy Drive system, they'd sell every single one they could make here. Basically taking everything good about this, but adding more power, AWD and the most reliable powertrain in the world would make it perennial winner.
Could they sell it for 26k?
Where do you live that it’s illegal to add fees above MSRP? I am jealous.
The only features i need in a daily are power windows, power mirrors, A/c and cruise control. Most importantly reliability
Dude sounds like the motorweek guy. This is not a complaint. 👍🏻
Thanks, Martin! ☕️
These things are all over now stocked at every dealership I checked
We have a family friend who has an early hybrid and has spent so much time in the shop. Maybe the bugs are worked out now.
Just wish Ford committed to updating the 2.0 engine to dual injection like the 2.7 and 3.5 for longevity.
... The 2.7 or 3.5 are not known for longevity. Throwing in more complexity definitely isn't the answer lol.
@@mattpike7268 Fair, but Direct Injection alone is sure to cause carbon build up long term.
@@richardnolan4763 Ha nice! I have a 23 XL hybrid maverick!
