@@trentrho Toyota makes the Hilux pick up sold around the world and in Mexico with a 2.7 lite motor and 5 speed manual transmission, that's what America needs, they also sell a cab n chassis. If something is not sold here its Toyota's choice.
I was in a Ford dealership a week ago looking at a Maverick. They had a F150 Lighting there...for $112,000. I had to ask the salesman if that was a mistake seeing as the MSRP for that truck is 60K. Turned around and left. No way I'm buying from them.
Haha you think they’ll go bankrupt. Maybe you were too young to remember 2008 when the federal government bailed them out. They’ll get your tax money to get them out of trouble and pay back the government later
I’m in a state where almost anything can be made legal for the road. So honestly at this point I just wish a company came out with a budget truck that was marketed as a utv that cuts out certain safety features and is a no frills option. Just a super utilitarian vehicle. Car and truck prices are insane.
I know 😅 fully people will drive by in the big giant status symbol trucks carrying nothing to their office jobs and then on the other way someone’s squealing by like a coal engine in a pickup older than my grandfather carrying the whole damn neighborhood and enough lumber and power tools to build a new one wherever the hell they going 🤣😂 Please god I just want a truck so I can stop smashing the hell out of my old SUVs dashboard when I put my ladder in there and smelling the stuff I’m hauling 😅. The cargo is not always pleasantly fragrant when you live out in the country 😂
The all-electric or hydrogen engine options are a no-go. So are the turbo options. I'd gladly accept less power to get a simple, reliable 2.0 L 4-cyl. engine, or even a 1.6L or 1.8L. I had small trucks in the past, doing construction, the occasions when I had to make extra trips were few, and as far as towing capacity goes, fit the trailer to the truck, not the other way around. Besides, the small truck market isn't a heavy-towing market.
All American truck companies put a Tarrif on all Japenese trucks imported into U.S because they knew Japenese trucks make higher quality than U.S and didn't want competition. Then Japanese manufacturers got smart and made their trucks here in U.S to avoid high Tarrif taxes. Which leveled the playing field.
@Mathilda2zerothe fiscally irresponsible can’t walk away, they’ll just borrow more and more money to get the crap they want. I’m always shocked to see broke people buying new cars, their payments must be astronomical.
For decades, car makers kept saying that there was no demand for small trucks, even tho most people knew better, now they cannot make enough. Makes you wonder how stupid their decision makers are. Every single Tacoma owner I met would tell me that he'd get offers almost on a daily basis.
Old compact trucks are starting to re-sell for more money today as people are getting tired of driving a monolithic sized trucks all the time. I know alot of people that would like to replace their old ford ranger or s10 with a modern truck of similar size.
I drive a 96 Tacoma 4X4 with the 2.7 liter inline four. Maybe I'm biased, but I believe that truck is compact pick up perfection. I think it would sell like crazy if they re-released the same exact truck today.
Not rocket science. Toyota needs to fire all of their MBA’s and take those savings and just make reliable common sense vehicles again. Leave the billionaire $50,000 pure profit vehicles to Mary and Jim.
Actually, Toyota came out with a $10000 Toyota truck. But it's not gonna be sold in the United States. Unfortunately. Because our government sucks. 5:41
Toyota could probably rerelease the compact pickup from the late 80s and early 90s with the 22R engine at a low price and would sell like crazy. I still see these on the road.
My dad has one. People are always asking if they can buy it. We had a storm recently. There was a dumping ground for green waste. Everyone had these huge trucks and were having trouble getting their debris out of their beds. My dad’s truck was so easy to load and unload. Didn’t stress out our backs at all. This truck needs to be brought back.
I have the '94 Ranger with the 4 cylinder. It is as basic as it gets with no power locks, no a/c... But I bought it for $500.00 seven years ago and it just goes and goes.
The old rangers is what i wished the maverick was. The maverick is horribly proportioned rn I never noticed how strange it looked until I saw a few in person. The large crew cab with the tiny bed makes it look like a giant hot wheel
A gasoline or maybe a hybrid Toyota STOUT is something I am interested in, but I am dead set against any all-electric vehicles - even if Toyota makes them.
The oil lobby is doing a good job of killing new innovation, just like they killed new innovation in the past to elevate gas mileage on cars. They killed rail transportation in Ca. in the 50s. They don't want competition.
I have a 2003 Baja that I got on the day they got them on the lot. Despite some minor problems, the thing runs great! I have no desire to sell it or get a new one. I LOVE it!
I owned an '83 VW Rabbit Pickup. The least truck of any truck, though the functional bed length was one thing that I feel still wins versus the new compact pickups. Hard to beat 45mpg too.
Agreed. Last body style with glass headlights and the last body style with TOYOTA in big letters across the tailgate. That 2.7 liter inline four will last forever too.
I have a 2015 Frontier that I bought new. I like it as it gives me the availability to get a couple of scoops of landscape mulch but still small enough to fit in fairly small spaces. Looks nice as well. Mine is Black
I was the second owner of a used 89 Toy 4x4 pickup. 4 cylinder, 5 speed manual, manual locking hubs. Had a 2.5” lift, camper shell and 31” tires. I think I paid $8500 for it and it ran forever. I miss the simple, cheep, reliable and easy to fix vehicles we got back in the day. Now you have to take on mountainous debt to own a car.
And you need a guy paid like a brain surgeon just to gain access to the spark plugs. I had a 1983 honda cx650 custom as my first motorcycle when i turned 18 in 2016 and the spark plugs were so easy to remove frankly im suprised no one stole them. You coukd pop the plug right off and stick the deep well spark plug socket on it and it toom 10 seconds 😂😂😂
I owned a Mazda B2000 back in the mid- 80"s until 1999....great little p/u truck...about 35-40 mpg...it just rusted apart....the engine lived on at the local dirt race track in a guy's sprint car. He told me once ...." I just mat that thing and try to blow it up but - it just keeps on going and going." I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the life of that engine but I bought "Slick 50 " at a car show back in the 80's and used it on that engine very early in it's life. That little truck was never garaged and it was cold soaked in the North ...lots of -20 and below weather. It even blew out all the oil out of the engine once after starting on a very, very cold morning.....Got it repaired and drove it for many more years.
I had a Mazda B2000 I got when my Dad who drove it left it to me when he passed. Manual tranny and got great mileage and I sold it to some guy that worked in agriculture for the next 20 years I saw him driving around in it. Need something simple like that.
Globally, Toyota sold 566,838 Hilux pickup trucks in 2022. It's the market leader pick up truck in some countries. Why wouldn't they use that as a compact in the USA?
I love my 2023 Maverick Hybrid. I paid sticker for my base LX...$24,000. I did have to wait a few months for the one I ordered. Thanks to Ford for making this truck. And thanks to Wiscasset Ford in Maine for the easy deal and only a $35 doc fee.
I have a 2022 hybrid Maverick XLT and I love mine as well and no I do not work for Ford. It took 8 1/2 months from order to delivery. I have owned 5 trucks previously mostly midsize.
I bought my first 22 hybrid , lariat first edition, lux , tow hitch, sunroof and other accessories for 33 k MSRP. I got it 18 months ago. My wife and I loved it so much that we just got an XL hybrid for 23k MSRP through our local ford dealer.
@@Homieb3ar Agree it is a phenomenal deal it you order one and wait which it is a long wait. It would be a perfect first vehicle. I bought mine as a retirement vehicle to downsize from a larger truck. It has been a great little truck getting 40 to 50 mpg. Dealer markups make it not so great. I hope other manufacturers make their own small trucks they would sell well.
I want a two door compact truck that has at least a six foot bed. As long as manufacturers only make four door trucks I will continue to buy old use ones.
@@TheAnnoyingBoss I would love an 8 foot bed on a 4 cyl truck. 4 cyl make tons of power nowadays and plenty enough for hauling small loads in a tiny truck.
Fun fact about the Hyundai Santa Cruz that people seem to forget: They were designed in California, and are assembled in Alabama. For all intents and purposes, the Santa Cruz is an American compact truck. I have been loving mine as a city driver who sometimes hits the firetrails for camping.
@@Lothlorian142 No, while thats a cool feature I want a Toyota ( made in Japan). Ive owned every brand except dodge and hands down Toyota makes the best vehicles in my opinion. I was a GM proving grounds driver and later a tactics instructor using Toyotas. The torture we subjected those vehicles to sold us all. They're near bulletproof for reliability and even got good gas mileage too. Toyota takes actual pride in their craftsmanship. Companies like Ford/Chevy/Dodge build stuff meant to fall apart after 10+ years. ("Planned Obsolescence") For what they charge thats not acceptable.
@@jordanplays-transitandgame1690 Thats the equivalent of me saying I really like Japanese women and you pop in and say heres a chunky ginger from Wisconsin. See how that's not at all the same thing? 🤣😂
This is the first video from Scotty that I have been able to watch to completion. The normal shrill voice was absent. I really appreciate your knowledge and would love to watch more content. I hope this is a sign of things to come
I still have 2011 ford ranger I-4 cycle. 157,000miles I got this good price when I bought new 2011. And now sky rocket prices. I still don’t met their budget payment.
I drive a 2003 GMC Sonoma regular cab pickup. I purchased it because I didn't want a monster truck for someone who uses it for residential purposes. I also have a 2004 Honda Civic for getting around town, formal events and long trips. I spotted a Ford Maverick a couple of weeks ago. Finally, just what I originally wanted. An AFFORDABLE truck that does double duty as a residential truck and a car.
We have a 2022 Maverick Hybrid and love it! Our average fuel economy is close to 60/40 (fuel/electric). Around Town is better on electric. Recently did a 5500 Km (3400 mile) trip and averaged 6.3 Litres per 100 km (37+ mpg) and we were loaded down with extra weight on the way home. My 2.0L Elantra would have cost more! The Maverick is great for us such as picking up some lumber, groceries, moving the odd thing here to there. My biggest complaint about the Maverick is, You buy a Hybrid (assumably) to get better mileage, right? The Maverick will not save your setting for Eco mode, you have to change it every time you drive. I do hope that these Companies follow through with more affordable trucks so people will have more options to choose from.
I'm the proud owner of a 2003 Subaru Baja and I love the thing! It's clocking at just over 120 000 miles and think I'll drive it till the wheels fall off.
What really caught my eye was the Subaru, I’d love to see a new Baja. Who knows, maybe it’ll start a new trend (or rather, revive an old one) and they’ll start importing Australian UTEs and/or bring back the El Camino and the Ranchero. Now that I’d love to see
I’ve always thought the El Camino’s we’re cool. I was so glad when I bought the large version model and it’s been my absolute favourite vehicle ever. Some people call it a Honda Ridgeline. 😅
@@lockhga The Ridgeline is far superior to a Hyundai Santa Cruz or Maverick or whatever other corner cutter is about to come out to compete in this wartime inflation market. Also, the resale of that truck will top the resale of a 10 year old Maverick even when it's 20 years old and pushing 280k on the odometer. It's a piggy bank, just like my gen2 Tacoma
Unfortunately, if they bring back the El Camino or Ranchero, the darned things would likely be four-door sedans, like most pickups I see on the road! Hard to believe people these days are shelling out over $40k for pickups that can't really be used as pickups.
First car was a used Ford Ranger 2.9L V6 and that engine was rock-solid. Raced everywhere in it, so it would be cool to see more TRUE compact pick-ups come back. In the mean time, trying to secure a Tacoma for a decent price but it's impossible. If anyone has a secondary mid-sized truck to lean on, let me know! But not a fan of the rangers now.
I purchased a new Toyota Prius back in 2010. We love that Hybrid car! I am very interested in a Hybrid compact pick up truck. I must say that being a mechanic sure helps though, I have done the head gasket, the EGR cleaning and the PCV valve in the Prius, but I still love that car!! I wonder how good that Maveric would be? I was more of a GMC kinda guy but that Maveric sure looks nice.
I wish Nissan would make a truck that looked like the early 70s model Datsun truck. I think there would be a market for it. I always liked the look of those trucks. Very easy to service and maintain as well.
And with the Datsun name - Nissan sounds like such a stupid name - always think - cup of soup - my dad had the 76 Datsun pickup in orange - I thought the orange or blue trucks in this model were so cool - neat dash, sporty exterior, long bed, reliable - am scared to think of how they would protect their occupants in a crash however -
@@appleimacdude Yes. It would have to say Datsun on it somewhere. My dad had the brown 73 Datsun. I also loved the sporty exterior lines that truck had and with the 4 round headlights in the grill. Of course a modern version would be bigger with all the safety standards. But I would keep it as small as possible. Maybe just a 2 door version even. And market it as a compact truck. AND BY ALL MEANS bring back the inline-6 motors non turbo. It wouldn't be a family truck that you could haul a family of 6 in it either. But market it as that and make it affordable. Like 20,00ish affordable, like the Ford Maverick. It's an easy no-brainer idea. And Nissan is just setting on it.
Just got the maverick lariat hybrid and I am in love with it…haven’t loved a vehicle since my Jetta TDi but this mav is awesome and I am very pleased and would recommend it to anyone who is thinking of buying one….😊
As a blue oval fan, I'm glad. Bring on the competition. Maybe then, there won't be a year-long waiting list for a new Maverick, and, they won't have ridiculous markups, AND, it will motivate Ford to improve the Maverick in the next refresh.
Build all American Cars/Trucks in the USA 🇺🇸! Tax the wazu out of all the manufacturers building cars and trucks anywhere Else in the World! Scotty don’t like EVs but will promote a Toyota!
I have my grandpa's 2001 frontier that him and my grandma used to pull behind their RV. While I won't ever sell this truck, I'd still love to see a bigger selection of affordable compact trucks on the market. A compact hybrid Toyota pickup would be likely be my next daily driver if there were one.
If the Santa Cruz is in this category then it’s not just it and the Maverick that’s only available because the Ridgeline has to be in the category as well. Earlier this summer a guy showed up to an over night trail ride in a ‘22 with 3” of lift and larger tires which I admit it gave me pause at first. However when it easily went over a few places the stock height Tacomas had to go around I was impressed. Definitely wouldn’t have been my choice of vehicle to pick but it held it’s own. With Mavericks in my area still seeing high dealer markup, it makes it the same price as the usually more expensive Ridgeline.
@Pesticide00 Unfortunately, These so called small trucks are based on unibody car platforms and therefore not as rugged as the original small trucks which were body on frame chassis. Therefore they can't carry or tow as much.
Just parked next to a Ford Maverick the other day, it was the exact same size as my 2000 Hilux. Funny how mid sized pickups have gotten so big that a compact is the same size
I have a 1991 mazda b2200. I like the little truck. I do most of my errands in it and it's fun to drive even though it only has like 80hp. I really think there is a market for small trucks in America if the price is small too, and the fuel economy is good.
Can't really compare the Maverick or the Santa Cruz to the Colorado, Frontier or Tacoma, but you know that. Completely different animal(s). I did own a 1980 Toyota HiLux SR5 sport truck. Loved it (5-speed with the Celica engine).
Still miss the Toyota 2200RE engine in that little 2x4 extended cab truck we bought new in 1989 and drove for over 20 years. Was soo dependable! Had to sell it because we couldn’t parts anymore new, used or otherwise in the country. Would love to see the Stout reborn but I hope it’s manufactured in Japan tbh.
I want a two door small truck. You throw the word "compact" around in this video everywhere but all you show are sedan trucks. That's what I would call a 'compacted large truck', not a compact vehicle. I'm a single 41 year old who doesn't need to haul kids or friends around. I don't need four seats. I need a truck bed that I can put lumber in! The whole point of a truck is to haul rough goods, not people. None of the vehicles in this video fit my needs.
I own an '89 Suzuki Carry (a kei truck). It's awesome 👍🏻 Did you know?... the EPA bases fuel economy standards based on wheelbase. This is why trucks have gotten bigger, the bigger the wheelbase the lower the allowable standards. Write your rep and tell them to change this.
I've got a 2002 Ford Ranger XLT with the 3.0 V6 and auto transmission (both are still original after coming on 230k miles). Love my truck. First vehicle was a 1982 Dodge Rampage. If the Toyota Stout ever comes to the US market, I'd look rather seriously at it.
We have a few at work, one is a combo pickup, flatbed, man lift to 8 feet with remote control, and a dump box. All from about 25 years ago . We put ATV wheels on it to go hunting as it’s a 4x4 with high low range manual. It’s so valuable that many have offered big bucks to buy it. And it has an AM radio with a cab heater.
My 1982 Toyota hi-lux was 1 of the best trucks I ever bought in my life. 2 barrel 5 speed straight 4 cylinder with a timing chain. It was a mini tank & you could do major repairs roadside . God I miss that truck. I guarantee Toyota don't produce that kind of quality anymore.
I'm still pleased with my 2023 Hilux G Diesel automatic that I bought in the Philippines for $24k USD last year. Pleased and I don't expect that to change.
Can any of the OEM’s go back in their catalogs to the late 80’s & early 90’s and give me a standard cab truck with a bed that is actually usable (the current offerings are barely big enough to carry some groceries)? Pair that with an in line 4 cylinder and 5 or 6 speed manual and I’m a buyer!
I have a 2008 two door Tacoma. Technically has 4 seats, and the exact same bed size as a 4 door, but ends up being close to a foot shorter and so much more nimble on the trails. For a "modern" truck it's absolutely as close as you can get to a '90s Toyota.
Toyota really needs a single cab short bed 2x4 and 4x4 because itll compete against things like the 2 door jeep. Instead of buying a 50k+ ford bronco they spend 25 and have an arguably better offroad vehicle after a couple minor upgrades. Plus if they could get it in a 4 cyminder gas and hybrid option, a v6, and pergaps that cummins 2.8L??? Cummins as a 2.8L im just suprised its not in literally everything. Manuals automatics cvt i think they should make literally everything an option. Instea dof bundling in blind spit monitoring with a heated steering wheel, we gotta be able to choose one or the other or neither and i think it should be that way from the bottom trim to the top. The LE camry shpulda had the v6 option. Theyd be everywhere rn if they did
I had a '79 Ford Courier, all Mazda except the Ford lettering on the tailgate. It had 240k miles on it when I sold it, but still ran great. I also had a '89 S10 with the 4cyl. I sold that to my son, bought it back, and drove it for 12 years total. We only replaced the water pump and brakes. It still had the factory clutch AR 230k miles. Loved that little truck!
The Ridgeline is never seemed to be a real truck it looks like it's kind of a truck body on top of a CRV or a Pilot. 2 inches long though it must be something someone.
I almost bought a 2004 Turbo Baja... I was also looking at the Forester (more room for dogs) and not a terribly useful bed in that sucker even with the ability to get stuff in the cab. People don't realize but Chevy and Subaru had a "relationship" back then and the Baja led to the Avalanche. I really liked them as a smaller "pick up truck." The reason I looked at the 04's with a manual transmission was that was the ONLY year that Subaru used a detuned STi (WRX) engine. In later years, they used an uptuned regular engine... If Subaru does come back, they need a Turbo version. I might even reconsider... I now have a Ram 2500 6.4 Hemi primarily for towing my travel trailer, transfer station duty and some light off roading more than my daily driver Renegade... If the right small pick up comes available, I'll likely jump as I can then do the transfer station duty with that and even less the 2500 which is a wonderful truck for my needs maybe not everyone's, but it is a beast of a vehicle and NOT a daily driver and sucks gas like it costs nothing.
i have a 1995 Didge Dakota Sport with 400,000 miles. Still runs good. Engine does not leak. Hardly ever in the shop. Wish they made small trucks like this today. Oh, and its easy to work on for home mechanics.
I had a 1988 4x4 Toyota pickup with 33" tires a while back and when I had to get the engine replaced it cost me $2,300. Was a great little truck and I took it everywhere even to the county trails where everyone took their 4x4's. Loved it!
I owned a 1978 Chevy Luv and and also a 1985 Toyota 4x4 truck, definitely compact (small) trucks. I currently drive a 2018 Honda Ridgeline, by far the most comfortable truck I've ever driven. I am definitely keeping my eye on this segment.
I bought back a good number of 1996-2000 Tacomas in 2005-2006 during the rusty underbody recall. Nobody wanted to part with their Tacoma because there was just no good replacement, even though Toyota was giving owners 150% of blue book value. If Toyota can pull this off, they will sell a ton of them. I’ll wait for the Honda version.
Scotty......Toyota will NEVER sell that truck for 20 Grand.....It's the best looking thing Toyota EVER made... And Toyotas are always more expensive....
Toyota talked of the Stouts return, but I believe the new Toyota compact truck based on the current Prius platform to be more likely in the interim. Since that Prius is a known, and tested system easily implemented. It would also be a direct challenger to both the Ford and Hyundi offerings.
I do like this video Scotty. You include all the compact trucks that I have heard of and give enough basic specs on each one. I’m really into the mileage game and I don’t tow anything with my 2021 Tacoma TRD Sport V6 so the power craze isn’t on my plate. I do need a pickup to haul things that you wouldn’t want to put in an SUV. Thanks for another informative video Scotty.
I’m a compact truck guy. I’ve owned a Chevy LUV, old Ford Ranger, Toyota Tacoma, Honda Ridgeline, and now a Hyundai Santa Cruz. I love it! With the turbo it’s quick, tows my small camper, hauls my dirt bikes, and gets 30 mpg. I would go for a plug-in hybrid compact truck in the future, but couldn’t do a full EV truck.
I've seen the renderings of the Toyota where they took a RAV4 and converted the rear to a small pickup bed. Seeing as how I am a RAV fan I found it to be quite attractive. I guess the Stout could grow on me if the price is right. The prospect of a KIA is interesting as well. In my area I see alot of Mavericks but Hyundai Santa Cruz sightings are few and far between.
Hey Scotty, I saw a TH-cam video explaining why there aren’t many small trucks on the market. It was because of a crazy formula that dealt with mileage compared to wheelbase size.
The Toyota Champ truck goes for only $13,200 out the door here in Thailand. Im alowed to ride my motorcycles in the USA, but can not buy a pickup without airbags with lane and collision sensors.
years ago I drove a mazda b-2000. Loved the gas mileage as a young driver. Today i would be looking at Toyota compact truck after driving my 1999 4 runner 300k miles with no major issues.
I bought a 2012 Colorado from a guy who lowered it 2" and man I love this truck. The Santa Cruz is probably what I would go for next, but I didn't know about RAM - and Toyota rumors are interesting. Great content. Thanks!
I had a Dodge D50 (Mistubishi Mighty Max) and is was excellent! Had a 2.6L i4 with manual trans and got over 30 MPG. What's not to like. That little truck went over 200,000 Miles and I sold it to a friend who took it over 400,000 on the original motor. We need another great compact truck like that in North America!
Scotty, you’re so in love with Toyota! I don’t blame you. We can’t seem to build a vehicle that lasts like them in North America. What do you and the other viewers think about diesel over electric power? To me, it’s the only system that will work for Canada.
Todays ford ranger is a different truck entirely its not as good as the original ranger and the original ranger couldve been better. The onlh truck to even get close to competing with those 80s hilux ot landscruiser 70 series. All vehicles they wont let us own in tyranny usa unless they rob us a fortune 😂😂
Back when I was a college student in the late '80's, I owned a '79 Ford Courier with a 3 speed auto tranny and a 2.3 liter engine if I remember correctly. It was a good truck but wouldn't go over 65 mph. I packed all my belongings in the bed and drove it from So. Cal to northern Utah and at 65 mph on the flats, it took a long time to make the trip. Loved that little truck. Never had any issues with it.

Ask people to make SUV with truck with backside removed to make it truck
That thing is not gunna cost $20k.. maybe for the battery free no engine version. lol the non rechargeable ones lol
ALL EV is insane and horrible for the environment. Plug In Hybrids are the way to go.
I wish the maverick could tow at least 5,000lbs like the honda ridgeline.
Just build the little Toyota with a 4 cyl 5 speed manual, and offer 4x4 ... jesus , how hard is this ?
That's what I drive: 94 Toyota pickup, xtra cab 4x4. They don't build ANYTHING with manual anymore, more's the pity.
Easy peasy. They need to stop "innovating" and just build what works.
EPA, brainiac
@@trentrho Toyota makes the Hilux pick up sold around the world and in Mexico with a 2.7 lite motor and 5 speed manual transmission, that's what America needs, they also sell a cab n chassis.

$20K on paper. Once it hits the dealerships, it’ll be priced close to $35-40K
Prices will come down when more competitors offer compact trucks and more used Mavericks are sold on the resale market.
Here in the UK thats EXACTLY what happens.
Agree. It's not the truck manufacturers. It's the dealership that has to overprice everything and fu*k the customer.
I was in a Ford dealership a week ago looking at a Maverick. They had a F150 Lighting there...for $112,000. I had to ask the salesman if that was a mistake seeing as the MSRP for that truck is 60K. Turned around and left. No way I'm buying from them.

Cheapest used maverick on carvana is almost $30k. People need to just stop buying cars until these dealers go bankrupt or sell at normal prices.
Totally agree.. us consumers are to blame for these ridiculous high prices.. people should put a stop to dealers screwing us consumers.
@@slyfox720 Interest rates getting back up to normal rate will help some but it's going to be slow and also very painful.
Stop using carvana. Their prices are outrageously overpriced
Haha you think they’ll go bankrupt. Maybe you were too young to remember 2008 when the federal government bailed them out. They’ll get your tax money to get them out of trouble and pay back the government later
People are buying the Mavericks to sell to Carvana or Car Max
I’m in a state where almost anything can be made legal for the road. So honestly at this point I just wish a company came out with a budget truck that was marketed as a utv that cuts out certain safety features and is a no frills option. Just a super utilitarian vehicle.
Car and truck prices are insane.
I know 😅 fully people will drive by in the big giant status symbol trucks carrying nothing to their office jobs and then on the other way someone’s squealing by like a coal engine in a pickup older than my grandfather carrying the whole damn neighborhood and enough lumber and power tools to build a new one wherever the hell they going 🤣😂
Please god I just want a truck so I can stop smashing the hell out of my old SUVs dashboard when I put my ladder in there and smelling the stuff I’m hauling 😅. The cargo is not always pleasantly fragrant when you live out in the country 😂
I wish i had ebough money to start a factory because id build the tacoma like an even more durable bobbed duece and a hald
Check out the Toyota Hilux Champ.
What state would that be?
All American truck companies put a Tarrif on all Japenese trucks imported into U.S because they knew Japenese trucks make higher quality than U.S and didn't want competition. Then Japanese manufacturers got smart and made their trucks here in U.S to avoid high Tarrif taxes. Which leveled the playing field.
Its MSRP is 20k, dealer markup is probably going to have it at 45k for the bottom trim.

Most people in boardrooms are completely full of themselves and prefer to tell you what you want, than have you tell them what you want.
They make more money on the big luxury boxes. But like Ford they won't sell the cheap one to anybody you know. They were all pre-ordered.
like car makers know what people want
Old compact trucks are starting to re-sell for more money today as people are getting tired of driving a monolithic sized trucks all the time. I know alot of people that would like to replace their old ford ranger or s10 with a modern truck of similar size.
@@the_undertaker1-i5g It's called market research. They spend millions on them.
I have the exact same truck Mike, it needs a head gasket and some new paint and that’s all I need for a small truck!
I feel the same about my 2003 Ranger. Solid little pickup that can haul a surprising amount.
Yeah, I’ve got 2004 Toyota Tacoma pre-runner and at some point I’ll need a truck, but there’s nothing
Current gov regs for new vehicles impede common sense production.
Only thing I hate about the Maverick is it isn’t bringing back the era of truly small trucks, like the old Rangers and S10’s.

Because of all the expensive regulations that are required in the US.
If you want imported trucks, get your senator to remove the import tax. They started making them here and called them "Tacoma".
The Tacoma is what Americans want. Pickups are now comfortable daily drivers. Very few today want something with leaf springs and hard plastics.

The Maverick is great for us such as picking up some lumber, groceries, moving the odd thing here to there. My biggest complaint about the Maverick is, You buy a Hybrid (assumably) to get better mileage, right? If the Santa Cruz is in this category then it’s not just it and the Maverick that’s only available because the Ridgeline has to be in the category as well. Earlier this summer a guy showed up to an over night trail ride in a ‘22 with 3” of lift and larger tires which I admit it gave me pause at first. However when it easily went over a few places the stock height Tacomas had to go around I was impressed. Definitely wouldn’t have been my choice of vehicle to pick but it held it’s own. We put ATV wheels on it to go hunting as it’s a 4x4 with high low range manual. It’s so valuable that many have offered big bucks to buy it. And it has an AM radio with a cab heater.

Lazy Americans killed the standard transmission. 😂 and a full size half ton truck with a 5.5' bed is now normal. What more do you want 😅

Me too the sport trail edition.
I wonder why Scotty overlooked the Ridgeline.
The Ridgeline is never seemed to be a real truck it looks like it's kind of a truck body on top of a CRV or a Pilot. 2 inches long though it must be something someone.
@@jonwinship9099 he’s a fan in another video
I wish they would bring the damn 2024 Baja and Brat over to the US.
i have a 1995 Didge Dakota Sport with 400,000 miles.
Im still kicking myself for selling off my 94' Ranger King cab.
I am so freaking dumb.
What is a Honda Ridgeline considered?
Scotty......Toyota will NEVER sell that truck for 20 Grand.....It's the best looking thing Toyota EVER made... And Toyotas are always more expensive....
Toyota talked of the Stouts return, but I believe the new Toyota compact truck based on the current Prius platform to be more likely in the interim. Since that Prius is a known, and tested system easily implemented. It would also be a direct challenger to both the Ford and Hyundi offerings.
They got rid of the mini Toyota trucks and gave us this 💩
I do like this video Scotty.
I'd buy Toyota's compact truck in a heart beat! Tacoma's are super cool but too powerful for what I need.
All mavericks i find are 30k+
Its ridiculous
Ford should reintroduce the Sport Trac. They are nice little Utz and I owned one for a few months while I worked for a Tacoma.
Scotty, still kicking A. Nice job man!
I bought a 2012 Colorado from a guy who lowered it 2" and man I love this truck. The Santa Cruz is probably what I would go for next, but I didn't know about RAM - and Toyota rumors are interesting. Great content. Thanks!
Have you ever owned a 4 cylinder or v6 camry/accord and seen what real reliability is like
I had a Dodge D50 (Mistubishi Mighty Max) and is was excellent!
The compact truck segment coming back to the USA 🇺🇸 is awesome! My customers have been very happy with their Mavericks
I dig this format of video 👍🏾
Back when I was a college student in the late '80's, I owned a '79 Ford Courier with a 3 speed auto tranny and a 2.3 liter engine if I remember correctly. It was a good truck but wouldn't go over 65 mph. I packed all my belongings in the bed and drove it from So. Cal to northern Utah and at 65 mph on the flats, it took a long time to make the trip. Loved that little truck. Never had any issues with it.
