Dan, I work at a comedy club. That "Jingle Bell Rock" is a good joke, I rewound to hear it again (and actually laughed out loud). Made my morning, thanks.
Him, Mark Walhberg, and Ryan Reynolds are the trifecta of always playing themselves and making mediocre movies, but have all proven to be powerhouse actors early in their careers.
@@ComedyBros5 Fully agree, but Reynolds chooses to do so despite the fact that he's a legitimately good actor. Johnson has moderate range (he's a wrestler so that makes sense) and he wisely chooses to pick the same character. And Walhberg... is doing it cuz that's all he can do. There's a difference between falling into a typecast, which most actors do at some point, and intentionally choosing your roles to promote your brand, which is... relatively new as a concept, at least to the degree it's being done now.
I don't think this movie is high art. I saw the trailers and went "It's gonna be a dumb Christmas action comedy". I went with my mum because she wanted to. Basically empty theater, yeah. It was exactly what I expected. I had a pleasant enough time, not offended, etc. But.... my mumma loved it. She said she wanted to buy it on Blu-ray. This is not an exceptional movie, and yet I cried as the credit rolled because my mum leaned over and said "dad would have love it." It was a dumb action movie, of course he would have loved it. He passed 3 months ago yesterday. I wish I could have shared it with him. All that to say, dumb movies have their place. This movie made my mumma's day. 10/10 in my book.
I bet anything this is going to be a medium level flop at the box office AND in 10-12 years when the next generation of kids see this movie on Amazon Christmas after Christmas it will be a big cult hit. Any Christmas movie that isn’t an enormous failure usually finds an audience. Jim Carey Grinch, Tim Allen Santa Clause sequels, Elf, and many many more weren’t super warmly received on arrival either.
@@A-ro-2803 The main complaint I see of this movie is how bland, safe, and cookie cutter it is. I can absolutely see a new generation that hasn't been exhausted by Marvel & knockoffs fatigue, or by The Rock starring The Rock as played by The Rock, and feeling that this is something fresh & interesting.
Ever since I saw that meme of Dwayne in four different movies wearing the exact same clothes, I can't unsee him in these type of roles. It works when it makes money but it just hasn't been recently.
I watched it with my nieces and we really enjoyed it!! It was a very fun way to spent our time together. They’re still talking and texting me about it…
I saw the trailer (trailer 2) for this and thought it looked kind of interesting- Santa going missing, Chris Evans being the unwilling guy to find him, etc. Then the Rock showed up and I knew exactly what kind of movie it was going to be. Why COULDN’T they go more fun and fantastical? It’s a movie that has Santa Claus!
While I don't like movies like these because they tend to be boring, given that this holiday season will be tense for many families (mine included) after a fraught election, Red One could be one of those movies that can be put on during family gatherings. No one will fight about it because of its pleasant, boringness.
I'm worried about the state of movie theaters but I am rooting for this movie to flop HARD. It needs to be made crystal clear to these studios that The Rock is not a box office draw. The fact that he alone can make more than the total budgets for like 4 of my top 10 movies of the year combined is sick
I personally hate christmas movies. But my wife really wanted to see this one so we went last night. Empty theater and I knew rotten tomatoes score was low so I was expecting a mess. But we both actually liked it. It was a fun time. Very predictable movie but very enjoyable
I saw it yesterday afternoon and enjoyed it myself. Also, there was definitely a bigger attendance at that showing than it must have been at other times.
Would be MORE interesting if Evans played Santa like his character in Knives Out. A sort of down and out “over it” Santa who’s sick of the Twitter Tik Tok self indulged world we live in. And The Rock has to help Santa out
Im eagerly waiting for the SMURFS reboot wirh Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, Chris Pratt, Chris Evans, Kevin Hart and Chris Hemsworth. Written and directed by Shawn Levy. And produced by Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie.
I think i will rewatch the Noelle movie instead of Red one. It has a cute message about believing in yourself and helping your family; the costumes are pretty, the music is nice, the characters are likable especially Noelle and the grandma elf! I like it 🙂Elf too is a classic and a great Christmas movie!
I think this is now my favorite Christmas movie. Ridiculousness turned up to 11. Random Christmas Creature violence, mixed with how is this possible plot and sillyness taken super seriously. With all that is going on in the world this year, I needed this high budget, high octane, Christmas battle! Move over Elf, and Home Alone, and make room for Red One.
I was surprised I didn’t hear a Red One/Red Notice reference! Thanks for the review Dan. Sounds just interesting enough that I may try to catch it on streaming release.
First off, I don't know why everyone keeps downing the movie. It was great!👌 If you're not a Dwayne Johnson fan, fine, just don't watch, but don't hold the movie hostage. A skinny and fit Santa, a witch in a Christmas movie, Captain America playing a dead beat dad whose trying to make reparations of all people, snow globes being used as prison cells, hell hounds, are things no one would ever see coming. I know it's outside the norm, but that's what makes this movie special, some fresh creativity. Not just another Christmas movie like all the others. It's ironic all these adults are commenting, when Christmas is primarily for kids anyway. They will definitely love this movie. But if you're just stubborn, go ahead and go back and rewatch the old Christmas movies with fat Santas somehow fitting down skinny chimes along side normal size reindeer, unlike the 20 foot ones in this movie. Thanks
I am of the belief that there are less and less people who are the type of movie goers to be okay with just looking for a whatever movie to go see this week.
