    Hey Tito, what a tough mod, indeed you made it look quite easy. I’ve put off for how challenging it looks to be. The Retrosix shell looks pretty cool and I’m surprised on how well it fits the mcwill kit. Thanks for this video as always.

    The 2X integer scale mode is probably used in conjunction with the optional VGA output as all modes carry over to that as well.

    This looks great! one piece of advice for those wires, pre-tin them with solder before soldering them to the pads and pins. Makes for a stronger, longer lasting joint. :)

    Incredible job here Tito. Like others have said this must have been a lot of set up time and editing. I knew we were in for a great video when you started talking about how you were avoiding the mod. Haha. I wonder if we'll ever get a full board replacement like the DMG. Thanks for all your hard work. I liked the part where you explained how editing made this look much easier. I think that was nice of you to mention that.

    • @MachoNachoProductions
      @MachoNachoProductions  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you V V! So glad you liked the video! The nice thing about the DMG is that the motherboard with the CPU is separate for the the lcd board. Unfortunately the GG has everything in the same board so they would essentially need to remake the motherboard. We can always be hopeful though. I’m sure there is someone out there who can figure out how to make this mod more plug and play, but it may be an impossible task given the design of the GG. Cheers V V! Thank you for the comment!!

    I've recently entered the deep rabbit hole of game gear modding and boy do I like it. It's impressive the amount of things you can do to a 30 year old console.
    I got my first game gear around a week ago. I'm a repair technician and one of my clients gave me her GG for a simple capacitor swap. Little did we know that I was not the first person inside that poor thing, and the previous attempts at repairing it were terrible. Lifted and missing pads, torn traces under the capacitors (I'm assuming the last "technician" pried the caps with a screwdriver or something causing and immense amount of damage), capacitors of incorrect values in incorrect places with incorrect voltage ratings... A MASSACRE.
    I told my client about the situation before doing anything and proceed to explain to her that it was going to be an extensive and expensive repair due to what I found and even though, I couldn't guarantee that the ASICs were not fried due to overvoltage or something else was faulty.
    So she told me that she would most likely throw it in the bin because she didn't feel like paying a rather large amount of money without any warranties. I told her if she could give it to me and I ended up paying her a tiny amount of money for compensation and kept the console.
    Long story short, I repaired the traces, changed the capacitors, cleaned the board and fixed the audio board.
    Now I'm waiting for some replacements from AliExpress to fix the power board which had several SMD components fried and unstable voltages operation. If everything goes well and I end up fixing it, next thing will be a new retrosix shell (haven't decided yet if black or transparent) and a McWill LCD mod.
    I'm really looking forward to have my sweet baby working again like a champ.
    Videos like yours are EXTREMELY important and valuable to the community of modding fans. Great editing, great content and perfectly explained. I'm already subscribed and waiting for more GG content or any other retro consoles for that matter. Keep up the good work bro. 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻🆙🆙🆙

    • @MachoNachoProductions
      @MachoNachoProductions  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you buddy! Yes, that is true. The brightness wheel doesn’t function to brighten or dim the lcd. If you choose to add VGA capability, turning the brightness wheel all the way off enables the VGA mode. Hope that answers your question! Great to hear from you man! Cheers!!

      @@MachoNachoProductionsNice work and a very nice instructional vid!! (much better than the provided install instructions). However the way you connected this mod essentially uses the brightness wheel to control the voltage supply to the whole kit. I think the install instructions for your mod board revision (without brightness control) uses instructions rev 2.2, which specify that the Vcc and GND of the mod board are connected to the Vcc and GND of the GG. The brightness wheel pin 1 and 3 are also connected to Vcc and GND of the GG and pin 2 of the brightness wheel to the 'brightness pad' on the mod board. This way the mod kit always receives a clean 5V Vcc and the brightness wheel can be used to toggle VGA mode...

      I’m wondering if there is an issue with the newer x7 model?

    I see you have the game gear that has not the blue boot screen and is booting directly to the game.I wonder if the everdrive x7 card will boot. I have the same game gear with mcwill, the one without the blue boot screen and my everdrive x7 is not booting. I always getting a message "memory error". My original cartidges from the other hand are working flawlessly.
    The only way i found to make it work is by powering on Game Gear and then insert the cartidge. That way it works. I think it must be something with the power when booting console as everdrive x7 has a large consumption of power. (The everdrive x7 is working fine on other game gear console with the original screen).
    Maybe the usb-c mod will make it work with a big 3A power adapter.
    Nice video though, always enjoying watching your mods.
    Cheers!

      That is super interesting! I wonder what is causing the everdrive to not boot on the game gear without the opening blue screen. That seems like a pretty big oversight on the part of krikzz. I wonder if it’s a known issue. I really want to get the x7 everdrive at some point. It’s so expensive though. That would be interesting in the usb c modded power board fixes the issue. Cheers buddy! And thank you for the comment!!

      @@MachoNachoProductionsmy friend haven't forgot you! I received my new Game Gear with the McWill screen and here are the results!
      The problem i had with the everdrive GG x7 cartidge solved! At last the everdrive is booting normally! I was right about finding a Game Gear with that blue boot screen.
      3) "Castle Of Illusion" now is playing normally with right resolution on screen, as i had problems with that cartidge on original game gear and with game gear with McWill.
      4) I can now also play with the right resolution the master system games as also the SG-1000 games from my Everdrive!
      So all my problems are solved!
      Have a nice day and Happy Christmas holidays!

    A couple of errors in the video. There are 5 major mainboard revisions and the McWill is only compatible with 2. VA0 and VA1. The cartridge port shielding is not pre-cut. This is how all Asian/Japanese models have their cartridge port cover, because of less strict FCC regulations. I also noticed you said in a previous video that the retrosix USB-C mod is compatible with all hardware revisions, however it has a VA0/VA1 style connector, so it won't work with any of the other revisions.
