How is the performance on it after 6 years? Since it's a Chromebook with an i5 or even i7 I'd guess it probably runs well. And do you still receive updates? It's an older model and I think back then Chromebooks were only provided with 4-5 years of updates.

@@krnelpanic_ Still receiving updates. It's the i5 version. It still runs about the same as when we bought it, but after playing around on some newer high end Chromebooks, I can definitely tell that I'm running older tech... The track pad is still the best I've used though

Pro-tip: The next step should be to add more performance to the specs. 16GB minimum memory @ higher speed DDR5, Six core at a minimum... Octa, Deca core, or HexaDeca max (12th-13th Gen Intel) w/ 512GB M.2. 1080p min webcam resolution. If I am going to jump ship and ditch Windows (Which I would like to do), it needs to tick ALL the boxes and not just scrape the barely passable for every day use mark. I need performance for cloud gaming, video calling, and video and photo editing and thus far none of the plus models so far can do all of that with ease (I can tell by the specs). I'd be happy with this being available for a 12th Gen i7 NUC but have tried and have had issues with booting even though it is spec'd similarly to a 5th gen ASUS chromebox but doesn't have validation. I am so close to replacing everything with Google products, but this is the one thing lagging.
I have a Plus from ASUS and it does everything you mentioned just fine. You should probably try it first. The OS makes the specs work in ways they wouldn’t on other devices.
Yes but they specifically have to have an integrated NPU otherwise the AI functions are slowwww. That's a key selling point for me. @@darkinetix
@@snakeplissken8887 I see. Sounds like you might generally need a workhorse. I have a Mac Pro for design work.. but I’ve really been enjoying the Chromebook for fun stuff and personal life. Even the gaming on it (streaming) works shockingly well.
personally, i think 8 gb would be a better minimum ram requirement instead of 16gb. for most chromebook plus (and even windows users for that matter), 8 gb of ram is more than enough. if you want more ram then just get a more expensive 16gb ram chromebook or windows laptop
The problem is that you're not getting the "Plus" features if you get a higher spec'd system. Very FEW of the Chromebooks with fair specifications are getting the Plus designation and if it doesn't have the Plus designation, you're not getting the added features like AI enhancements. @@SubtitleXD

There's no extra features, it's just a range of chromebooks that have better specs so you know buying one that they're a higher standard.
IMO they're still not enough, should have been 16gb ram and an i5 minimum.

@@Mantenner I think the target market is the mid range to low end buyers(Which is the majority), so there's a tier that guarantees good performance and a good price, because it's very easy for tech illiterate people to go into a store and get sold junk.

Whilst I think that the new ChromebookPLUS initiative is a great idea - I am very disappointed to see that Google appears to be ignoring more power-efficient ARM cpu's (in stark contrast to Apple).
Having bought an Acer Spin 513-2H last year, I have been blown away by its silent (fanless) and near cold operation - despite regularly using 20+ windows on 5 desktops.
Is it perfect - no. But for the £399 I paid for it, it was an absolute bargain - and clearly shows the huge potential of ChromeOS on ARM.

I think the rep mostly comes from the very cheap and underpowered chromebooks. The higher end ones are pretty good. Most of the time they are just android tablets with extra steps though. And the higher end x86 chromebooks would be better off running windows and not chrome os.

ChromeOS is sweet. Believe me I have been developing and running it for 5 years.
Ive used ChromeOS since 2013, and it has always looked good..... until last update when they ruined the design of the interface for volume control etc.. just a big blob of color now.
I would not switch to a Crome book I own a high end Chromebook and Mac book and the Chromebook is slow as hell and the play store is limited

Ik it's been 3 months, but I got the chromebook plus for my bday and I dont think it's overpriced at all, it runs really well and is definitely worth the money. I compared it with a pc and it runs almost identical to it (the pc is a windows 10). It's worth the 400 dollars. Btw my model is the acer 515 chromebookp plus

Be aware the cool video effects on the plus models cannot be recorded unless you subscribe for ten a month. What a scam. And the effects are not in the camera area - they are in Google Meet. You have to start a meeting and can play with them there. But you can't record it without a subscription!! I took my CB back once I found that out.

Buenas fiestas y feliz navidad! me encantaría poder tener en mi equipo ChromeOS Flex pero todavía sigue sin funcionar el sonido en el huawei matebook 14 (no detecta el controlador de sonido), también seria interesante corregir los errores del controlador gráfico ya que baja la resolución de la calidad de la pantalla, no lo muestra a 1080p. Estaría muy bien colores en las carpetas, una mejor aplicación de calculadora acorde al nuevo diseño, modo oscuro en calendar y meter el playstore en ChromeOS flex. Mil gracias y buen trabajo!

The Wii U is the most underrated console of all time. People think it was about the screen with the controller, but it actually got a generational shift in GPU to same as PS3, (Similar to Switch) as well as backwards compatibility with Wii.
