    I came home yesterday to my male fanning a cave of babies, so I set up my 10 gallon and gently moved the came with the male into it to grow them out, I’m so excited! Today I have wrigglers, how long should I keep the male in the grow out tank? And what do you recommend to feed the fry for there first food?

      Thats awesome👍 they do best with the male in with them for as long as you are willing. I like to give them French cut green beans when they start coming out to eat. Congrats they are really cool to watch grow

    • @mrfinsfish745
      @mrfinsfish745  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching, From what I know most mystery snails are technically Apple Snails which is a broad term to describe many different species including mystery snails ( POMACEA BRIDGESII -DIFFUSA). When people talk about Apple Snails typically you would think of the larger one that gets the size of a baseball (POMACEA MACULATA) not the golf ball sized mystery snails. This topic has a lot of confusion in the aquarium trade I am by no means an expert on snail classification so be sure to confirm any info. Thanks again for watching

    Great video! I have 3 female bristlenose in a 60 gallon community tank with some large rainbow and Denison barbs, I have 1 male in my 35 gallon guppy tank, I would like to breed them shoul I put a couple in a tank by them selfs or just add the male to the 60 gallon? Will the larger fish bother the eggs or the babies? Could I just remove the eggs into a breeder box untill they hatch?

    • @mrfinsfish745
      @mrfinsfish745  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, I would definitely put all the BN Plecos together in a colony they breed great that way. Give them plenty of caves and feed them well I like a varied diet for breeding. In a community tank the best rule to follow is if it fits in another fishes mouth it will eat it they see cute little pleco babies as a tasty snack🍫. I let the eggs hatch in the community tank in the cave the male BN will protect them for a while even after hatching. You can then pick the entire cave out of the tank and move them to grow them all out. I have also removed the male from the cave (harder than you think) and buried the cave and all in lose rocks like lava the babies will hide and some will survive. Hope this helps! Good luck and thanks again for watching

      @@mrfinsfish745 thanks for responding, so they will stay in the cave when they catch? Or should I move the male and the eggs into there own tank, what’s a good size that would be ok for baby plecos? And how long to I keep the male with the babies?

    • @mrfinsfish745
      @mrfinsfish745  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@heatherleelovejoy9690 Yep they will hatch from eggs in 4-5 days they will stay in the cave for about 10-14 days until they absorb the Yolk sacs then they will start to venture out. They will do best in a tank with no predators 20gal or bigger. I hope this helps and good luck

    • @mrfinsfish745
      @mrfinsfish745  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@heatherleelovejoy9690 As long as you want, he will protect the babies for some time of you keep him in. I typically give them about 5-6 days and then move the babies out to a new tank then the parents will go back to spawning sooner. This can be hard on the male so give them long break from time to time.

    Do they re grow fins? Red devil bit most of his pectoral fin off and now 4 days later is gone. Will it grow back or is the poor guy doomed

    • @mrfinsfish745
      @mrfinsfish745  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ouch! fins in general can grow back in my experience as long as not to much was damaged. But that Devil likely won't stop until that fish is dead. I would separate them as soon as you can. Good luck and thanks for watching

    • @chrisjones6165
      @chrisjones6165 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mrfinsfish745 the whole fin is gone. Devil bit through spiny part then rest fell off few days later. Looks to be healing up but not sure if it'll re grow. Fish is only about 2 in. Other tanks have super aggressive baby jags and a big leopard pleco and daughter has a 11im flowerhorn in her tank so this is best option. Wondering if devil didn't mistake him for krill because he's never messed with him before or since. If he does I'll set up my empty 29 gal for him till he grows up some more.

    Man I've had a nightmare with mine. I've never kept fish before and then bought a 195gallon tank off of a friend, bought a load of fish (Neon tetras, plecos, golden and tiger barbs, black widow tetras and khuli loaches) Everything was fine until last month when my plecos decided to start breeding. I had no clue what to do so kind of left the first batch to the parents and they all died, ended up all the eggs covered in a white fluff so I had to remove them and clean the tank just in case.
    Then they bred again and this time the eggs hatched, the father stayed in the cave for almost a week and the babies started to come out and were swiftly eaten, my peaceful community fish suddenly turned into monsters, constantly hunting and harassing the father around the cave.
    So this time I bought a small see through plastic hatching box and moved the cave into this and put the lid on, did a water change and have been dropping an algae wafer into the box for them to eat. They seem to be enjoying those and are growing up quite nicely, I've tried putting bits of cucumber in there for them as I was told they'll eat this but so far I've only seen them eating the mushed up wafers.
    They now look like miniature versions of the adults instead of tiny tadpoles BUT they're now getting to the point where they're constantly trying to get out of the breeding box but I'm worried the bigger fish will eat them. I have ordered a larger breeding net box (one of those green ones you stick on the glass) to transfer them into but how long do i have to keep protecting them from the rest of the fish? It's stressful as hell lol I swear, It's worse than having children.
    I never wanted to breed fish, just to get my own choice fish and keep them all nice and happy and well looked after and now I'm running around like a mad pleco nanny trying to give these little guys and gals a chance in life. I think there's about 15 that have survived to this stage which if they all survive, would give me 18 plecos, I get the feeling I'm going to have to donate some to the local pet shop when they're grown up enough lol
    Oh and why is your male pleco yellow? All mine are dark brown, even the babies.

    • @mrfinsfish745
      @mrfinsfish745  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wow you have had quite the time, the other fish see the pleco babies as tasty snacks until they dont fot in their mouth any longer. Most cases about an inch. The white eggs was most likely because they didn't get fertilized, and if you don't need anymore Plecos it is ok just to leave them in the tank they will most likely be snacks but that's OK you don't need a bunch. I pull them and move them into grow out tanks to sell. If you hang the breeder box in your tank it won't foul the water in a small space feed them a mixed diet they will grow fine. Try canned green beans or boil that cucumber.

    • @mrfinsfish745
      @mrfinsfish745  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh the male pleco is just an Albion, if you have one Albion parent you get about half the young to be Albion half browns.

      @@mrfinsfish745 Thanks for this buddy, I'll try doing what you said with the beans and the cucumber, I'd like to see them eat something other than algae so i know they're healthy and getting the food they need. I'm glad the breeder box won't damage the water too much as well. And i didn't know you could get different variants of bristle nosed plecos, I thought all BNP were the same or similar colour, I'm learning something new everyday about my fish lol Thanks again pal :)
