    I love your idea of using a "pocket" to feed nori sheets. We get nori REALLY cheaply from our local Asian markets and now I know how to present it to my plecos. I will try to make a holder out of plastic craft mesh.
    I also feed my BNPs fresh sliced mushrooms caps, cooked acorn squash, cucumbers, frozen/thawed peas-popped out of the skin, and romaine lettuce.
    Of course, green beans are the favorite food.
    I've also tried bok choy and carrots, neither of which got eaten. Spinach wasn't a big hit either.
    Great video. Thanks for sharing your ideas!

      Thank you! And thanks for sharing what you are feeding as well, I’ve heard a lot of people saying they like mushrooms, I think I will try them soon!

      The only problem with mushrooms is they really want to float! The tradeoff is they don't dissolve into a gucky mess like green beans.
      Thanks again for your insights into keeping these awesome fish!

    Subscribed Thanks heaps fo this vid , awesome!! Newbie here, only had mine two weeks ,but the young ones love kelp ,( I feed zucchini and other stuff too ) I Allways have some fresh harvested kelp in my tanks to supplement vitamin and minerals in the water, ( rain water has no minerals, so my tap water needs minerals added ) but the small 1 inch bristlenoses just love kelp , not sure why the bigger bristlenoses don't seem to appreciate kelp, maybe they are just too busy in their caves? .. ( which I now realise after watching ur vid their caves are far far too big lol
    Soo happy u posted this great info !!!

    I started off feeding mine zucchini and green beans. In the end, only use bottom feeder pellets. No algae wafers. Use Terracotta pots. I think people over think breeding them.

      They might just be enjoying what's already in you're tank. Mine never eat food specific to them like algae wafers. They'd rather have the fresh algae growing in my tank.

    Thanks for posting this. I have had 4 Super Red spawns. All my fish are a darker red and some have almost brown patches. I purchased some on Aquabid some from 2 different LFS and some from our aquarium society auction. most Super reds is see on TH-cam or pictures are a brighter red. I've never seen those color for sale. Is the darker red more common. Have I purchased bad fish? I have now sold around 200 of them, all to fish stores. No one has complained a they ask for more. Where can I find a brighter Super Red? Do you sell yours on any sites? They appear brighter.. Thanks.. I just found your channel.. I subbed.

      Thanks for the comment and sub! To answer your question, super red plecos aren’t a natural color, there’s none like that in the wild. They have been breed over time to look that way, usually the super reds that have brown in them are called “dirty reds” or calico. The fish with all bright red like you said are definitely the most desirable. Ide like to think that my super reds are about as good as it gets as far as that goes. I do sell my fish, if your interested you can email me at garrettfamilyaquatics@gmail.com

    Hi Thank you for some great information in your video. Could you tell me please. How many Bristlenose's you keep in each tank as your colony. And what male to female ratio? Cheers Carl

    • @garrettfamilyaquatics6704
      @garrettfamilyaquatics6704  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Carl! Thanks for the comment!
      When growing out juveniles to be my future breeders, I like to buy 6-8 so I’m sure to get at least a few pairs. I use 40 breeders for this process, once they are old enough to sex, I usually keep 2 of the best looking pairs, and sell the rest. I think you could keep up to 3 adult pairs in a 40 breeder. And I do have 3 pairs in my super red tank right now.

    I didnt want baby plecos but I now have around about 40. They breed under a piece of wood propped up against a rock open at both ends. So open that even the congo tetras can swim through easily. How big do the baby common bristlenoses have to be to sell/give away please?

    • @garrettfamilyaquatics6704
      @garrettfamilyaquatics6704  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      rule of thumb is for them to be 1.5 inches before selling/giving away. The congo tetras may eat them though if they arent seperated.

    • @cutgrove5942
      @cutgrove5942 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for replying. They are one and a quarter inches long, so not long to wait. The Congo tetras appear to be passive and shy and the babies huddled togeather when they hatched just below where the teras hide so Im surprised they didnt eat them.

      Don't listen to all these TH-cam videos. What I do for my babies is keep wood in water and let biofilm grow, and switch out wood when needed. The babies will thrive.
