Connor Rothandler I think I would have to go with the marble calico. Longfin of the calico with the bright orange would be nice but not sure I’ve seen them. Usually the longfin calicos are kind of more brown and muddy
Idk really know I just got my 1 pleco a albino bristle nose pleco for my 20 gal community tank. I’m pretty sure it’s a female. What is your favorite fish?
I've been breeding brown, albino and super red plecos for about 3 years now. This video was excellent and hats off to you for sharing your knowledge. They'll keep you busy that's for sure.
Easy fish to breed. Bred them when I was 15. I got a big male then 4 smaller females and they became a breeding group. I'm going to be keeping them again in a few months when my tank is mature enough. Cant bloody wait
Thank you, I appreciate the support! Your fish will thank you for the green beans! I just drain the can, you can rinse them if you want but I don’t even do that usually. A little goes a long way, start with just a little bit and see how long it takes for them to eat it. Just like any food if it’s still there after a day, take it out. Good luck!
Absolutely fantastic video! Was incredibly informative! I've had an albino bristlenose for about 8 months now and now I know he's a male! Thanks for the awesome info! Keep up the good work!
Love this fish! I have a brown and an albino male in separate tanks. I bought them when they were so tiny I barely saw them for months. They grew so fast especially the brown. He is now about 5 inches in less than a year and even though the albino is older he past in length and girth. The albino is about 5 inches too just not as thick. Enjoyed this video
Sounds like you got two cool fish, growth rates can depend on lots of factors like competition for food, water changes, and of course genetics. Thanks for checking out the video Brian.
Thanks for this! I ended up adopting a male convict cichlid and a bristle nose, who had already been living together. I was questioning whether the pleco was actually a bristle nose, kinda just has some cute looking whisker things, but now I just think she’s a girl and will continue to be safe and fine with the convict!
Absolutely phenomenal video Ryan! Arguably the best fish video I have ever watched...I'd put it alongside the Aquarium Coop breeding for profit series. Your delivery is great and your honesty and overall detail is simply fantastic! Keep it up. Can't wait for the next one! One question. When you water change on the fry grow out tanks, do you vacuum mulm from the bottom or simple drain water? If you vacuum mulm, how do you avoid sucking up any fry? Thanks again and have a great day. Hope you are staying healthy.
Quite the compliment there, appreciate it. I vacuum out the mulm every 2 or 3 water changes depending on the levels. I use a siphon cap so no small fish get sucked up (you can also DIY some netting over it but make sure it’s not too fine). I also usually won’t suck out the mulm in a tank where I just put new babies in. Give them a chance to grow a bit and be more resilient. They are very very fragile when tiny
!00% absolutely loved the video. Anwered a lot of my questions and concerns with breeding the beautiful fish, except one question, how often should the veggies be given to the babies and adults(if the frequency is different) I have been breeding Mollys for years. Once I saw an Albino, I wanted all my 12 tanks to have one or two. Although, fish stores dont get them too often, or they do not live long after purhasing. One day, I saw a few babies. Not even knowing I had a male and female, how they bred, where the babies were laid, I was so excited, I pain stakenly, over 5 hours, removed 72, 1cm size babies, from a 55 gallon tank, with four 6" albino Rainbow Sharks. I was hooked. I watched a lot of videos on TH-cam, talked to the fish stores I sell my Mollys, anyone n anywhere i could get more information on breeding them. I must admit, after seeing this video of yours, I got more info than all the others combined. You are great, interesting, to the point, clear n concise. Unfortunately, I have not had anymore eggs laid since then( 3 months ago). Ironically, I do nothing n have babies. Then I educate myself, purchased caves, incubator tanks, fed them veggies, did the freequent water changes, put in tanks with just 2 or 3 mollys, and no babies. Of the 72, 50 were sold recently. 6 died, 1 fell down the drain(I actually took the pipes part looking for him) I have the remaining 15. They are 3 to a 29gal tank, with a breeding pair of mollys and an adult female albino. I still only have the one male. Any advice onwhat could be the reason no more have been spawned? Lastly: Do you have any mature male Albino Bristle nose Plecos? Swimmingly, Mary Pearson from Marys Mollys
Great vid man, spot on advice! I've over 20 in a 55 gallon, they all know the lemon is the daddy!!!! I am selling some, but wanted to grow them on to pick the best for breeding! I have no real aggressive behavior! Just abit of shoving now and then!
Thanks for another great video After many mistakes and moving disruptions, I finally had my first successful Bristlenose fry, and my male was sitting on 4 clutches so I have a pretty full and busy tank now, and very proud of my fish. He only gave himself 2 days off before he was back on eggs and there will be more free swimmers in the next couple of weeks- luckily I feed very well and clean up the debris and do a 20-25’/. water change every 2 days to keep up with the load When do you think I should move the fry into a grow out? I recently moved and haven’t set up all my tanks yet so bio film is going to be really important Do you think new wood is a good source for biofilm with its abundance of white Bristlenose candy floss? I also use bio starter, old media, O/W, and spirilina powder to help speed up a good bio film on all the surfaces Thanks again-Tommy
Just about a week ago I got a surprise. I noticed a baby albino bn on the glass of my 40 gallon. I have a pair of them in the tank that I bought over a year ago as juveniles. I had kind given up on any breeding activity. I did not put a cave in the tank, but the male dug out a burrow under a large rock. There looks to be about 35 babies. The tank also has cories and Khuli loaches.
What a great video! I just started breeding bristle nose and I saw my male fanning in my community tanks so I moved him the tunnel and babies all into a 10 gallon grow out tank, when should I remove the day and put him back into the community tank
Great information, had a question I can’t find an answer for: do two long fins only produce long fins ? Not sure whether long fins is dominant or recessive. Thanks !
Great video man! Awesome plecos. Quick question, though. I've just had my first spawn but had a difficult time getting my male out of his cave. I successfully retrieved most of the 70+ fry but was unable to get him out plus several wigglers inside. Any tips or tricks with this? I'd like to get him out so he can start eating again but he's still hiding in his cave and I don't want to risk significant trauma in shaking him out more than I have already. Thanks in advance!
Great video! I like the q&a format; it makes it very clear what info you are covering and holds you on topic. But don’t stop doing the off-the-cuff type video either. Looking forward to see what other projects your’e working on. I think your calicos are my favorite. Do you have any long fins?
Appreciate the feedback Garrett! I think I’ll do some more of these but will definitely do other style videos also. I’ll have a DIY video out for the first time in a while with the new rack system that will be coming. I’m lucky enough to be currently working with breeding groups of Japanese rice fish, some apsitos and some synodontis. Eggs everywhere, varying degrees of success with the fry however. Been filming it all and will eventually have videos on it. Unfortunately no longfin calicoes. Only super reds and lemon blue eye future breeders that I’m growing out. Most of the longfin calicoes I see out there aren’t the type of calico I like. I may make it a project to try to get some longfins out of my stock of calicoes. Hope all is well in your neck of the woods, are you staying busy with any projects yourself?
I lost most of my babies and don't know why they started dying about a month old I had snail's in the tank with them could that be the problem? Thank you love your channel
I keep my baby Pleco with my male betta in my ten gallon it’s the one with the algae problem what would you say about a sponge filter? That’s what I use low flow for my betta
Will other types of plexus bully bristlenoses? My tank is 150 gallon. I have two baby golden bristle noses ( male and female it seems) about 3” and recently I purchased two albino long fins about 2”. They were in a totally bare tank and very thin. I have lots of driftwood and have only seen one of them since the purchase. My daughter wants to give me a marble horn sailfin about 5”. Should I set up a 55 for that guy?
Thank you so much for all the information. In Australia I never seen any Super Red longfin bristlenose & I would love it if you can advice me how to achieve that. Thank you so much in advance!
Very informative! I have a fair range of plants in my aquarium and have just added 2 bristle nose in there. Will they likely eat the plants or can I do anything to stop them eating them? Thanks Aaron
Will they re grow a pectoral fin? My red devil took a bite out of my super red and he lost whole fin from it? They were fine for 3 months then he bit fin and with in 2 days it was completely gone. Just wondering if it will grow back, seems healthy other than that
Thanks for sharing. I’m new to this as had babies unexpectedly so trying to gain as much knowledge as possible. The daddy pleco is underneath a wooden log even though I have bought cave and he hasn’t come out since yesterday. I’m wondering now if there are more eggs under there although not much space. Is this safe?
Hi Extremely new to the world of fish keeping so I have a question for my friend, I have a aquarium with a few( SIX) Malawi in could I maybe put one/two bristlenose plecos in with them, Thanks, Great video by the way,
Weird question, but .....does the position of the cave matter? In almost all configurations I've seen online, the caves are placed horizontally. I have a stock tank, so the walls are black. The only view I have is directly from above. I was wondering if one was to place the cave vertically (as opposed to the traditional horizontal position), would the plecos still use them?
Thanks for the info. I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to put into a new aquarium I just planted. It is a 15 gallon extra high!! I have it planted with easy plants... Two different kinds of anubias, a little hair grass, and Amazon swords.I just wondered if a bristlenose would get too big for such a small surface area I also have driftwood, fluval stratum in the new set up. Right now the only thing that's in the tank is 3 albino Cory catfish until I can find some more and decide what else I'm going to put in there! Thanks for a great video. Stay Well.. much love from Portsmouth Virginia ✌️🙏👍
Thanks for checking out the video Mary. Sounds like a cool tank you have going. Bristlenose and albino Cory cats are compatible however they both are going to compete for valuable bottom space in your tank. Three is good but I would add three more albino cory cats to make a group of six and forgo the pleco since that would be a lot of fish on the bottom. If you really want a pleco I think you could get away with one in addition to the 3 cory cats. Especially since plecos don’t grow super fast. Then add some top and/or mid swimmers. Stay safe up there!
@@WildFishTanks thanks, that's what I thought too because there's not a lot of floor space.. the bristlenose are just really cool fish!!!❤️🐟🌿🌱 Thanks for your help!
Hi. we have a breading pair of Plecos. one brown female with an albino.male they are in a 300liter tank with 5 mollys 4 shrimp and a Guppie and a Beta. the male pleco is guarding some eggs and i don't know if i should take them out and put them in a separate tank in order to protect the babies from the other fishes are in the tank. would they eat them? your advice would be much appreciated . Thanks
I have a long fin Bristlenose and really wanted him to breed. I put a Pleco cave in but his fins got injured! BADLY. Just ordered a bigger cave. Just saying "the smaller the better" isn't always best. He's healing now but it's a slow process.
Are there any 90/110 or bigger fish tanks within the length of 48inches long🤔my plecos are getting gigantic in my 75 gallon with all the other Ciclids. Preferably I need a bigger tank but within 48inches long height doesn't matter
Old video ik, but Ive got a planted and scaped 20 gal high tank. It's pretty much done cycling now and I really want a starlight bristlenose. I've gotten some conflicting info on if I should house one in a 20 gall or if that's gonna be too small. Ideally I want to find a baby
Will shrimp help with the amount of waist that builds up? Like will it slow down the build up even a little? I want to get a small shrimp tank and maybe add 1 or 2 plecos would these two species benefit each other?
Can you show what velvet or ich looks like on a Pleco? My Bristlenose has strange discoloration on its body. Can’t find any specific information online.

Wild Fish Tanks What is your favorite color variation of bristle nose plecos?
Connor Rothandler I think I would have to go with the marble calico. Longfin of the calico with the bright orange would be nice but not sure I’ve seen them. Usually the longfin calicos are kind of more brown and muddy

Can you please leave the question on the phone screen longer because I am older.
Thanks for this very enjoyable, R.J.
Great vid man, spot on advice! I've over 20 in a 55 gallon, they all know the lemon is the daddy!!!! I am selling some, but wanted to grow them on to pick the best for breeding! I have no real aggressive behavior! Just abit of shoving now and then!

I have the same type of pleoc in my African ciclid tank and they live great together
They also like to eat Indian Almond Leaves. Its anti bacterial and easier to eat than driftwood. But of course driftwood also.
I own a ten gallon tank and I really want just one pleco but I don't know what kind to get. What would you suggest?
the D shape cave thing is true for me, never had them breed in those water spikes, its very rare
I have a friend who has multiple pairs breeding in the water spike’s constantly
What a great video! I just started breeding bristle nose and I saw my male fanning in my community tanks so I moved him the tunnel and babies all into a 10 gallon grow out tank, when should I remove the day and put him back into the community tank

Just a note about the wood in your tanks. The Plecos need the lignin in the wood for digestion.
How long does it take for the bristles to show?
Great video .What substrate , if any , do you place in your breeding tanks ?
I typically have no substrate in my breeding tanks, sometimes I’ll use gravel but haven’t noticed a difference

Just got one today! His name is Henry he’s so cute will he take over my betta Periwinkles skull cave as a male cave?
I have a bristlenose pleco in my tank. How large can they get. Are they dangerous to goldfish?
Very informative!

Jk haha I rewatched it and saw the end
Do you recommend a water change after the 7 day treatment for ick or parasite treatment im doing on my bristlenose
Will shrimp help with the amount of waist that builds up? Like will it slow down the build up even a little? I want to get a small shrimp tank and maybe add 1 or 2 plecos would these two species benefit each other?
Hi my young common BNP has a white spot on his head, he is nearly 1yo, Is that spot his fashionable spot or what is it?
Can l put baby plecs into a fry pen to stop other tank fish from eating them?
Can you show what velvet or ich looks like on a Pleco? My Bristlenose has strange discoloration on its body. Can’t find any specific information online.
