    Overall I like the jig. It's the easiest I've ever installed the euro hinges. It really is as easy as seen on the video. My only gripe about the jig was easily remedied with the addition of a flat washer. I found the jig's stop collar to be useless with the Blum hinges I was using. They require a 7/16" deep cup hole (others in the Blum line require a 1/2" deep hole for the cup). In either case, the shallowest hole the stop collar will adjust to, is close to 7/8" deep. On a 3/4" thick door, this is cutting it very close when you consider the deeper dimple left by the bit's point. My solution was to drill out the center hole of a 1/16" thick flat washer so that it fits over the bit's shaft. I put the washer on after the bit is inserted into the guide before adding the stop collar. Now when drilling with the stop collar adjusted for it's shallowest hole, it stops when it meets the washer (which is acting as a spacer), and drills a hole a few scants deeper than 7/16". Perfect.

      Chatoyance Woodworks umm... you do know that the stop sleeve is adjustable, right? It’s held on with a set screw. You can the depth to anything you want.

      The shallowest mortise depth the stop collar goes to is 1/2" deep holes, not 7/8". It's still a problem for 7/16" depth hinges though.

    Keep in mind that "professional" merely means "paid." So when you say "professional-quality" results I look over at my custom-built kitchen cabinets that cost way too much money and shake my head at the inconsistently installed hardware. Then I remember that our "expert professionals" didn't care to use a jig at all. They were close, don't get me wrong, but nowhere near the repeatability something like this brings to the... well, in this case to the kitchen.

    Great tool..However how do you account for cabinet doors that have angled edges? The cams only account flat 90 degree edges...

    • @KregToolCompany
      @KregToolCompany  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here's what Technical Support had to say: If he is referring to the door not being a rectangle, it would still work, as one of your edges would still need to be 90 degrees in order to square it up and open properly. If he is referring to the design of the face being angled, unfortunately, we do not have a way to account for a door like that. However, most door faces that are angled still have a little bit of a ledge before the angle actually starts that would allow you to reference against. If you have any further questions, you may contact them directly at kregtool.com/help.Thanks!

      Thanks for the reply - a little help from an angle finder plus a little trig helped me offset the correct distance on the cams.

    What if I'm using the blum insertia hinge that needs the 8mm holes?

    • @DoresoomReviews
      @DoresoomReviews 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I used the same Blum hinges, and just drilled the 1/16" pilot with the existing guides. The screws that come with the 8mm inserts will work fine without the inserts themselves. If you want to make it a little easier to get them started, you can drill a slightly larger pilot after removing the Kreg guide, since the screws don't have a point on them.

    on mounting the door to the cabinet...is there a jig to pre drill the holes on the frame without holding the door to the frame?

    • @DoresoomReviews
      @DoresoomReviews 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on the individual hinges, but some of them have removable cabinet-side hardware that can be mounted by itself first while it's not attached to the door portion. As long as you measure the right vertical offset, it makes the process a whole lot easier.

    Does the screw hole locator have any bushings?

    • @KregToolCompany
      @KregToolCompany  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, it does not.

    • @DoresoomReviews
      @DoresoomReviews 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately it doesn't, so I think it will get wallowed out after lots of use eventually. However, the important part is the 35mm cup hinge hole anyway. If you get that in place, you can line up your hardware and use a center punch to mark the location for the desired screw holes.

  • @kabbarnes1
    @kabbarnes1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Most concealed hinges come with a plastic anchor bushing that must be bored out using a 8mm drill bit to receive the anchors. You should have accounted for that in your design. I personally don't like anchoring a hinge using screws into the wood frame.
