    Hello,
    I've been binge watching your videos as my sis wants me to have a go of making her an alcove wardrobe, so thanks for all the information you upload.
    Regarding concealed hinges and the faker shaker style doors, are your doors 18mm MDF with a 6mm overlay, or 12mm with 6mm overlay. If 12mm, are there any problems caused when drilling the 35mm hinge hole? If 18mm, what hinges do you use to accomodate the 24mm total thickness?

    Morning Ryan, another good video thanks. I am going to try using the same make hinge as what you do. I have been fitting these hinges for many years. I have a Kreg jig that does the job ok. Before that I made my own jig as you do. The problem I have is buying these hinges, some makes you buy the back plate separately to the hinge. I find it can get quite confusing, yes I know it’s me. However a refresher on the subject is always handy. Thanks again. Take care.

      Thank you!
      I know what you mean.
      I like these hinges and they come as a whole(
      (Hinge and plate and covers) .
      I also like the large amount of adjustment in them too.
      I have the kreg, but when I got the veiko jig I stopped using it.

    Hi ryan ,say for example you make a 600mm by 600mm mdf cabinet would you just take off 3mm from each side of the door or is there a specific size your door has to be smaller than the unit.?

    • @thelondoncraftsmanworkshop
      @thelondoncraftsmanworkshop  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Marty sorry for the delay!
      Well if there is no panel or other door going either side of 'said' door, then no gap is needed on the sides.
      If it was one door sitting over/in front of a carass and the trims were stepped back (flush with carcass) then the door would be the same width as the carcass.
      Hopefully I understood your question correctly.
      cheers
      Ryan

    Nice video Ryan, my only comment would be that 99% of the time, you’d fit a door after the cabinet is built without the luxury of having the pieces lying side by side. Would have been better to see this. How much adjustment are there in the hinges?

    Good tutorial. I need to replace a Grass brand hinge that keeps unclipping. Looking at the catalogue is so confusing with all the different measurements. It seems like there is no direct replacement, so I hope they are somewhat compatible.

    • @thelondoncraftsmanworkshop
      @thelondoncraftsmanworkshop  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As long as you use the same type as you have, you should be able to use another brand or a newer type grass hinge.
      If in doubt, change all the hinges on that door, so they work in sync with each other, this should eliminate any doubt 👍

      Well when you buy hinges such as blum or hafele brands, they can come with different thickness mounting plates (the part that gets fixed to the carcass , not door). So there are variations according to what door gaps you are looking to achieve.
      My general rule of thumb for the hinges I use(although they don't come with instructions) is a 4mm gap from the edge of thr door to the start of the 35mm Diameter hinge hole.
      This is what I usually start with and to be fair, 99% of the time is good for all 35mm hinges.
      You can always look up the specs of the hinge that you are using online, I'm sure you would find that measurement.
      Ryan

  • @JoshuaWyborn

    how do you know from the edge of the door carcass that it's 37mm? or are they all that?

    • @thelondoncraftsmanworkshop
      @thelondoncraftsmanworkshop  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Most of them are like that.
      You can put hibg on door, then put door up against carcass at a 90 degree to it, close the hinge so the plate part is touching the carcass and then measure from the front of carcass to centre of fixing holes.
      Make sure you put 3mm spacer in between door and carcass and that your plate on the hinge has been adjusted to center.
