An important note is that if your microphone uses phantom power (+45 volts) and your pre-amp includes a "PAD" button to lower the line-level out, you must ensure that PAD is pressed, otherwise your iPad microphone input sounds will randomly cut out due to over modulation. Took me about 30 mins to figure that out...
At 1:33, even if the signal is moving STEREO out of the mixer using the AUX cable, Wouldn't the signal become MONO using the adapter before going into the iPhone? Since TRRS = Two Outputs (Stereo Headphones) and One Input (MONO mic)?
FYI. Using option 4 - headphone jack out of the mixer- will not transmit the onboard mixer effects if desired - the signal will be dry except for what was used in line prior to plugging into the X1204

I´ve just tried an iRig HD to my iPhone and it worked wonders. I managed to send a signal from the headphones output of my Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 audio interface to my iPhone 6 (via lightning) and stream the audio on an Instagram Live video. Yeeaahh. Thanks for the tips!!
Great video, but one thing I learned is that you can’t run line level, aka sound form the sound board, into a phone, laptop, or recorder without an attenuator or DI box. The sound will be too loud for the mic inputs on these devices and it will be distorted.
That's true! If you output your signal over USB, you also won't get distortion, Check out our new version of this video to learn more: th-cam.com/video/orWFqC3u-CA/w-d-xo.html
This seems good but what about the newer phones with just a lightening jack? Would it still work with the adapter? Is the phone smart enough to chose the line in instead of the microphone. I’m a musician who wants to live stream my shows
I have a Blue Mic Yeti Nano I use for podcasting. I've been able mix my audio with the Blue Sherpa software on my desktop. Is there a way to get that audio directly input to my iphone XR live. I have the usb c adapter.
If you would like to do this correctly (eg in stereo NOT MONO): buy a mobile audio interface: doing some research brought me to: iRig Stream This will enable stereo input for live streaming!
Easiest way is 2 (big) jacks / RCA cable (depends your mixer) from booth or send to your Iphone - so 2 jacks to mini jack (Iphone 11 needs RODE Cable as well to connect with mini jack)
hi! thanks for the video. I am having some issues. Im using a mixing desk for a phone in podcast. I purchased the TRRS adapter that splits the iPhone (or MacBook) headphone into 2 separate connections. 1: stereo out and 2: mic line back in. The goal is to use the mics coming into the mixing desk to speak to incoming calls. this is the set up. audio out of phone comes unto a channel on the desk and gets fed to the two radio hosts, then the mics for the radio hosts use the aux send to send their mic signal to the mic input on the TRRS lead back into the phone. There by avoiding the need for the phone in caller having crappy sound from us having to use the phones internal mic. I know my way around desks, but for the life of me I cant figure out what is going wrong. I can plug a small lapel mic into the TRRS mic input lead and get sound, but as soon as I try and connect (with the same type of lead) from the desk, I get zero signal coming into the computer or phone?) I am totally stumped... The connection looks the same on both the lapel mic and the line out of the desk, but desk just won't produce a level??? Any thoughts?? Thanks!!
Our experience has been the iPhone will only record from an external source with an iRig2. We’ve tried TRRS adapters. No go. We use the iRig2 supplied sound from the 1/4” output on our soundboard. Also works “wirelessly” if you have an extra in ear monitor. Use the wireless pack with custom mix and you can put the phone anywhere you want. Buy a real camera app where you can monitor levels to know you’re not clipping.
iphone microphone is mono - doesn't jive trying to feed left and right into it unless that cable has special electronics which I doubt and if it does you should have said so.
You didn't clearly state if you can input STEREO audio into a cell phone... are the methods in this clip only going to input mono audio into a cell phone? How can I input STEREO audio into a cell phone?? any help appreciated!
The method in this video uses the mic input on the iOS device and is NOT stereo. I found a better solution is to use the Apple "Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter". You plug the USB port of this adapter into the USB port on your mixer and the lightning connector to your iOS device. Here are the benefits: - Digital line-level signal into the iPhone/iPad (no worry about low or hot signal levels) - Stereo audio recording in the iOS camera app (the line-in is chosen automatically) - iOS device can charge with the optional connection of a power cable (lightning) for long sessions - USB audio connection is bi-directional, meaning after receiving audio from your mixer to record, the playback goes back to the mixer without the need to change any cables
Hey Jeff! Great point! We've had some success with that adapter too, and created an updated video which we've mentioned in this video's title and description. Good looking out!
Just can't get this to work on my IPHONE XR I have the exact setup-- the iPHONE only records the integrated mic - not the external sound source - APPLE was no help :( any thoughts ?
Thank you for your post that seems to be clear and precise. Perhaps you can help further. I need additional info plz. I want to transfer my laptop audio to and through my iPhone to my conference call line. Please help. Thanks Roger
We haven't seen issues with it, but truthfully I'd just go into the lightning port on the phone, check out this video to see how we do it: th-cam.com/video/orWFqC3u-CA/w-d-xo.html
The cheapest solution is just buy a audio mic splitter. I bought one for three dollars and it does the job, it accepts line in. I send that to my phone and use a reverb app and the audio goes out to a quality speaker with reverb.
Hello! Is it possible to record directly to an Android phone using a USB-C to 1/4" audio jack adapter? If so, could you recommend a good brand for this adapter that includes audio input functionality?
I used the aux out into my iPad and it didn’t work. Just still used my iPad speaker. Are there some kind of settings I’m supposed to go to to change the audio source?
Hi I am going to purchase the mackie profx6 mixer. I want to video myself singing. How do I huck up to the iPad. I’ve tried stereo Jack outputs left and right to mini Jack into sc4 then into iPad. It doesn’t work. Thanks Vin
Hi there thanks for your explanation I have iPhone 11 and I don’t have a mixer thinking to buy small mixer, what do you recommend for my situation? Thank you heaps
Hi Rich, how many inputs do you need? We highly recommend using a USB mixer and going into your iPhone that way, something like this might work: www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/862118-REG/Behringer_Q802USB_Xenyx_Q802USB_Premium_8_Input.html
1. There is only a single pin on a TRRS connector designated for mic input which means that any analog input to a smartphone over the TRRS jack will be in mono. 2. The microphone bias voltage could easily mess with your input signal causing all kinds of glitching and popping noises. 3. You're very likely to distort the input of your phone by driving it with a line-level signal from a mixer. I would recommend buying one of the IK multimedia iRig adapters (even though they use proprietary connectors which SUCKS) or building something like this: th-cam.com/video/aovtGu_pG4w/w-d-xo.html
Good Job. Very useful simple and illustrated. I have one question. After connecting mixer out put to smart phone, can I send the audio to my powered speakers through blue tooth. (My Samsung powered speakers can accept audio signals only through blue tooth)
HI thank you for this video and i am looking for this set up for my live facebook streaming. The only thing i have a question on is to keep my iphone charged the whole time. Any thing special i need for that other than what you are showing.
Im not normally an iphone user but I have one and the connection is lightning not TRRS...and I thought that was all Apple products. What am I missing here?
Hi Guys , thanks for the informative video. I need help please. I want to setup 1 Mac with OBS and 1 Mac with Serato. But I can’t get the clean audio out of the Serato Mac to the OBS stream ? I know the feed needs to come from the controller ! But how ?
Hope you can notice me. Im using behringer um2 so I can use DAW (garageband) while streaming. Following your steps, Can use RCA cable to aux - then 3.5 mm jack aux cable so I can plug it in to my iPhone. Will i get the best audio quality while on stream? 😊 please and more power
Can I do this someway wireless? I’m live-streaming our Church service on my iPhone but need better sound. Can I run a wireless transmitter directly out of PA to a receiver on my iPhone?
Hi there, I got an iPhone 7 problem after using it as a recorder/player with a Dynacord... Goes power through the kabel? or what course my smartphone 📲 microchip broken. the iPhone 8 seems to have the same issue but not broken yet...
ok so far so good. I'm missing that adapter but then you would need to be going into an app correct? It's not going to just let you go straight to FB live?? many thanks for that additional info...
There is another 3 IN 1 adapter that can work together with this that with charge port and audio out.check it here www.coolsell.com.cn/live-broadcast-audio-adapter.html .its sell on Amazon, just search LIVE STREAM AUDIO ADAPTER.
I have a behringer x32. I am trying to record my church services on my ipad. The sound quality is lousy so I was told I could use a usb a to usb b and connect to a lightning adapter and plug it into my ipad. i did that and it didn't work. Hi , I need to know ir the iPhone record stereo I mean L and R, with this options , I have tried different ways but my iPhone 7 recorded in mono , help please ! Thanks a lot
Can I use the same technique out of the headphone socket of my Vestax Handytrax and into my iPhone so I can play records live on Facetime ... do I need to get the adapter ?

Hello. question: I have behringer line 2 usb cable + otg cable for android phone live facebook transmissions. where do I insert the two behringer line2 usb jacks into the soundcraft efx 8 mixer?
Ok I have a QSC 30 digital I bought the rode adapter and followed your instructions from headphone jack to iPad and it didn’t work do you know what I could be doing wrong thank you so much
as far as I know, the phone jack is designed for stereo audio output and a mono audio input only.
You are 100% right. Please see my query above. Can you help..? Perhaps you have some technical knowledge...Please 🙏🙏
is there any other way to record stereo in iphone or ipad
you are the most helpful man ever

Does this mean you will lose eq settings too?
iPhone 8 has no audio input. Can you tell me how to fix this issue?

You don't have to worry that the signal send in step 1 is mono since the signal will be converted to mono in step 2 anyway.
I need video like this but for lightening connection iphone

wow the iRig is actually a pretty good idea. I forgot that I have one lying around.
STRAIGHT TO THE DAMN POINT.... SUBBED
What software do you use to record on the IPad? Thanks
You can also buy (or if you have one laying around) a 1/8" TRRS to 3xRCA cable. The red one is the microphone.
How about the new iPhone without the 1/8 inch input? Can it be done with the USB input?
Yep, check out this video: th-cam.com/video/orWFqC3u-CA/w-d-xo.html

Thank you for your post that seems to be clear and precise. Perhaps you can help further. I need additional info plz. I want to transfer my laptop audio to and through my iPhone to my conference call line. Please help. Thanks Roger
Can I also use that method for recording live performance please ?
How about those latest iPhones that has no audio jack?
I had a TRS male to TRRS male, but this didn’t work. Is the TRS TRS to the TRRS adapter necessary? It seems like the same thing
Very interesting video. Is there a way to do it wirelessly?
This was exactly the answer I was looking for! Thank you for saving me a ton of time!
How would you do this wireless connection?
so the Rode cable will function as A LINE IN? on their website they say it's a mic input, not a line input

I used the aux out into my iPad and it didn’t work. Just still used my iPad speaker. Are there some kind of settings I’m supposed to go to to change the audio source?
Salvatore Lee same thing happened to me tonight. Did you find a solution at all?
I have not
It would not work for me until I did RCA out of the mixer (tape out)
For option 1 would We still need the trrs adapter
hi can i do this with an audio interface? i currently have zoom u24

@@talent3654 sure thing! Look into this option for connecting to your phone: th-cam.com/video/orWFqC3u-CA/w-d-xo.html
1. There is only a single pin on a TRRS connector designated for mic input which means that any analog input to a smartphone over the TRRS jack will be in mono.

Omg! Thank you so much! I've been searching for days for this solution.
Sense I have a iPhone 8+ can I just use my iPhone lighting adapter and connect my sc4 end then plug it into my phone ?
Great Content Man
Can i use option 3 to record audio from Mixer to smartphone and direct livestream ? ( without sound card) please answer me soon. Thanks
So can I do step 1 into the Apple dongle.. and it will work the same?
Yes it will, as long as you also use the Rode SC4.
i have question, how to send audio from mixer to smartphone via wireless(not wired) to recording/live streaming
Does It suitable for pro art mpa compressor to iphone?
How do I get it straight out of my bass amp into my phone
So to use any of the options to connect audio into an iPad, a TRRS Adapter is always neccessary?
Hey there! You can also use the lightning port, this video shows how it works: th-cam.com/video/orWFqC3u-CA/w-d-xo.html
Great video thank you ! Would this work if I just wanted to film myself with the iPhone video playing guitar / vocals ?
can it be into a digital mixer ?
Hi. Can u tell me how to record karaoke audio from laptop to the mixer to my android including my voice. Thank you
I tried it with te rode sc4 but it doesn’t work 🙁. I have an iPhone XR and used a lightning to mini jack connector. Do you think this should work?
Good Job. Very useful simple and illustrated. I have one question. After connecting mixer out put to smart phone, can I send the audio to my powered speakers through blue tooth. (My Samsung powered speakers can accept audio signals only through blue tooth)
does it record stereo or mono?
Mono only. Why isn't this stated on more channels.
HI thank you for this video and i am looking for this set up for my live facebook streaming. The only thing i have a question on is to keep my iphone charged the whole time. Any thing special i need for that other than what you are showing.

The S20 Samsung dosent have a headphone socket , is there an adaptor that goes into the charger socket ?
Could we also use the phones jack on the usb mixer?
yep!
Is there a way to just transfer audio that's already been recorded, to the ipad?
So easy!!! I’m guessing, in order to do this with the newer iPad pros, all the same stuff just need the correct USB-C adapter?
Hi Guys , thanks for the informative video. I need help please. I want to setup 1 Mac with OBS and 1 Mac with Serato. But I can’t get the clean audio out of the Serato Mac to the OBS stream ? I know the feed needs to come from the controller ! But how ?

So can I use a 4 channel/100 watt PA system with the rca cable instead of a mixer?
Do you know about this same process with a Galaxy S10?
How to record direct in camera from mixer?
If the camera has an audio input it's the same as going into phone via trrs.
what type of camera are using? You can use the mic or XLR input on the camera.

does it work just with a usb interface mixer or also with a normal mixer?
Enter the lightning port and the elimination of the 1/8” and everything is difficult
fucking apple
All I need was that lil grey adaptor 🤦🏻♂️
How about via bluetooth?
