    Unfortunately I need to go the other way. I need audio out from my iPad to a mixer. I am using midi to control Moog Model-D on the iPad but I need the audio to go to my mixer. I have an iRig that gives me audio in when I need it but it doesn't support audio out. Does anyone know of a solution for audio out?

    Nice video! I use power tools. By connecting the USB directly from the mixer into the computer, will it give me individual tracks on protools ? So if I use 3 channels on the mixer, will it show up as 3 individual tracks on protools, or just 1 overall track?

    Why do you need USB interface...if you connecting from USB/mixer? Can't you use the same cable you use for charging the iPad? One end has USB...the other has Lighting?

    The Mackie ProFX v3 series of mixers have a 3.5mm stereo line level input. And Apple makes a direct lightening to 3.5mm cable... and a lightening to 3.5mm adapter. It's a very simple way to connect iphones and ipads to a mixer. Probably android phones and tablets have cables and adaptors too. So look for a mixer that has a 3.5mm input.

    Hi Jordan. Great video. You explained it well. A very good solution that I’m going to try. Here’s my question, I need to do one more step. I want to be able to. Play my keyboard through the mixer with vocals and have that go into the live conversation. The problem is at 44.1 kHz the phone lines can’t handle it and cut the music up so I want to be able to export it out down sample to 8 kHz so the people on a group conference call can enjoy a couple of worship songs Can you show how to do that? I’m not really a sound guy I have some idea. I think I probably need to use some type of Daws software. I’m looking at Reaper. Any help you can provide here would be very much appreciated.

    So I am using a USB-C dongle to RCA out of my iPad. I find when I start the songs they skip the first second of the song I’m assuming on the transfer. Do you think if I use the USB-C to USB 3.0 dongle then USB 3.0 USB 2.0 cable link in the back of the Mixer it would solve that problem?

    I have a mixing board that has the USB that I use to record from one of my Ipads. However, I have a second Ipad lightning connector that I want music to play through simultaneously with the USB record on the 1st Ipad. I have the lightning adapter for power/audio(?). I want to insert that into an white/red input (once I buy the cable). Since I won't be using it to record, do I need to buy a sound card? I'm going to play music through the Second Ipad, while the first Ipad video records.

    Hi, love your videos. They are concise and have solved problems for me. Thank you.
    I'm recording to garageband and building up tracks of live and recorded material. I do have an internal feedback issue with the USB channel that I'm not getting my head around. I want to monitor the garageband project from the mixer with headphones (or monitors if there are no mics or pickups).
    As soon as I press the USB button, I get feedback. So I've been working around it by using headphones plugged into my iPad pro running the garageband. Following your advice, I use the Apple camera adaptor and powered USB hub. I actually have a MG12XU so the USB channel is slightly different. I just can't quite get the principle. I think it may just that I have a switch in the wrong position?? Would love any pointers you may have. Thanks.

    • @kettnercreative

      On the MG12XU, make sure the red ST button by the 11/12 fader is unclicked, this should break your feedback loop.

  • @ClaimOfRightMuso
    @ClaimOfRightMuso 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi, great video, covers many options, clear and concise.
    Quick question, hope you have an answer:
    I use a Dynacord Powermate 600 mixing desk that has ability to set up a monitor/foldback system for the band to hear themselves during gig. The mixing desk has individual monitor levels for each channel (eg, vocals can be set louder, or keys can be louder, or guitar etc, etc) and my question deals with these monitor levels. If I were to set all monitor channels to zero, apart from 1 of the mics, can I record that INDIVIDUAL channel, from the desk, into an iPhone?
    For your information: we DON'T utilise the monitor system when we gig, we're really not that loud, and it's therefore redundant. However one of our singers is singing out of key (yes, really) and it would help if I could isolate that singer's channel and record it to my iPhone... My plan is to record ONLY that singer's channel by having all monitor channels at zero but with this channel turned up and output to the iPhone. Can I do this? I use an iPhone 5S.
    Cheers!

    I think if you connect it the first way, you will lose part of the signal. The Jack-Usb audio card accepts mono input , but you are sending stereo output from the mixer. I think you should just pan everything to the left and use one output.

      Did it work for you? Thinking about getting a 8 Chan mixer to with a 8 Chan Audio Interface to match.

    Okay now where are the studio monitor speakers connected to? I currently have an older Peavey analog mixer with the monitors connected to the mixer. Do I need to move the speakers to the audio interface or can I use the aux out on the mixer?

      Studio monitor speakers should be connected to the monitor outputs on the Yamaha MG10XU.

    So I can play stereo piano and go straight into my iphone video camera from a USB mixer?
    Without needing additional audio interface ?

    • @JaiSuresh
      @JaiSuresh 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. I have recorded video on my Samsung Galaxy and as soon as I plug in the USB from the mixer it recognizes audio from that source.
      So you get video from your phone camera, audio from the mixer out.

    With the usb mixer option i can monitor the sound going in and coming out of the ipad?

    • @kettnercreative
      @kettnercreative  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's right. You can monitor the sound going in and coming out. The Mackie ProFX ( currentprice.io/profx10v3 ) does this the best because it has a blend knob so you can blend your monitoring between the mixer and the iPad.

    Can the phantom power damage my iPad?

    • @kettnercreative
      @kettnercreative  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Phantom power only runs to the XLR inputs of your audio mixer. If your audio mixer is working properly, you should not able to send 48v over the USB output to your iPad.
      If everything is working correctly, your iPad would never see the 48v of phantom power.

    I was thinking about getting an iPad in order to record my band via GarageBand.
    Question - also, for live performance, can we trigger sounds/loops and/or use the effects for vocals -- so it's hooked up to our mixers and the sound comes out our PAs (like our mics, guitars, drums, normally would)? Is an iPad a useful tool for a live band performance?
    Thanks...

      Nope. Connecting ipads to mixers is a fucking nightmare and will not work for anything.

    Hi, this is a great video!!! I'm connecting my Yamaha MG10XU to my ipad pro with your third option the usb cable. Only thing is, now my usb c input is being used to connect the mixer, there is nowhere to plug my headphones in so I can monitor sound. ( 2018 ipad pro with no seperate headphone socket) Any ideas? Would be so grateful!! Thanks Sean.
