Fun fact: Mae Questel, who played Aunt Bethany was the original voice of Betty Boop starting in 1931 until “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” in 1988. This was her final on screen performance.
I had no clue that was Mae Questel. That is awesome.
She kind of looks like a much older Betty Boop too
She was also Olive oyl in many of the Fleischer popeye cartoons and at some points she was even popeye himself an insanely talented person

Me and my family watches this every year. My dad practically forces my step-mom and step-sisters to stop whatever they're doing so we can watch it for the night during Christmas. No matter how many times we see it, it still garners a laugh.

2 things I’m surprised weren’t touched on. The fact that Russ is Leonard on the Big Bang theory. And when they are in the store, Eddie destroys the light bulbs with the dog food
Ohhh we didn't catch that Eddie destroyed the bulbs! 😂 And yeah, we never watched Big Bang Theory but we learned of this while we were editing this video!

A moment I really liked was when as soon as the boss said he retracted all the Christmas bonuses, the chief of police chewed him out on it, despite being the one held hostage. Even his wife. Like: "You did what ? No wonder these people kidnapped you".

I think what makes this one so much more rewatchable than any other Vacation movie, is the Christmas aspect. It just nails the winter vibes and you can put it on every Christmas.
Also, and maybe it's just me and juxtaposing this reaction vid of the Wally World Vacation film, but Clark comes off as *wayyy* more likeable in Christmas Vacation than in any other National Lampoon film and especially the first.
He's still Clark Griswold, bumbling hornball family man, but he's far less outwardly meanspirited and not nearly as...problematic, for lack of a better term. I mean, in the first film, a side plot is him actively attempting to cheat on his wife, not to mention stashing a dead body outside of a family member's house while they're away or actively holding a man at gunpoint when he has his "snapped" moment. And maybe that would be to a similar story's detriment, not going full bore on Clark's fuckery, but it works perfectly here and he feels way more relatable.
Plus the kids are the best in all the movies, which added to it. Johnny Galecki and Juliette Lewis were awesome, and the only time the kids were notable characters.

One of my favorite themes, is how Rusty is always right near Clarke. Clarke always calls his name and he is like literally behind him. The part in this where he walks up right next to his dad, and Chevy Chase face is just priceless in that scene.
I've actually been to a Christmas tree farm where a few people had clearly Griswold'ed a tree out (root ball and all) and left 3' deep, 4' wide _craters_ in the ground. Dad tripped and fell in one; it was hilarious. All Mom and I heard from around another tree was "Oh, no!" *THUNK!!* 🤣🤣🤣
I JUST realized the moment of triumph with the lights is immediately interrupted by Eddie’s arrival. Clark cannot catch a break.

The kids supporting their father after trying to get the lights working, was so heart warming. Honestly, this and A Christmas Story are the two xmas movies I watch every year.

The actor who played his boss his name is Brian Doyle Murray he is the older brother of Bill Murray and Joel Murray, rip John Randolph, E G Marshall, Doris Roberts, William Hickey and Mae Questel
This movie is a mainstay of my family. Anytime my dad wanted to do a big decoration scene for christmas or w/e it was always called a Griswold moment, especially if things went wrong. We even went on vacation one year to Florida and tooka a day trip to a water park, only for it to be closed in July. We fondly remember this event as the Wally World fiasco.
For my family it was the tree, we had a vaulted sunroom with a 14 foot ceiling, and every year my Mom would have us cram a 16-18 foot tree in there, which we called the Griswold family tree.
Yep everyone my childhood neighborhood called my dad Clark Griswold, he got started setting stuff up the day after thanksgiving.

This is one movie I watch every Christmastime. It is a great comedy, but it is even more of a Christmas movie. The Christmas part of the movie is entirely sincere. Though few families will ever have things go as crazy to the extent that the Griswold's do, we can all relate to the craziness, bad turns, family drama, and high expectations of a family Christmas. At least, when I was growing up, we could. My mom even called my dad "Sparky" when I was a kid.
You were talking about Eddie. He was wearing a 'dickie'. Which is basically only the turtleneck part of a turtleneck sweater with a little bit of front and back to remain in place. You wear it under a thinner vest or sweater so you can look 'neat' without having to wear two actual layers of clothing. Of course... this doesn't work when you wear a deep black dickie and a thin white vest...
The reason Lewis was able to burn down Clark's tree inside the house so easily was because it was dried out. They foreshadowed this earlier when they showed Snots drinking the tree water, and Clark mentioned the tree will dry out if he kept doing that.
This was the very first Vacation movie I watched on NBC back in the early '90's.
All Clark wants is a normal family Christmas but not everything goes according to plan.
Clark wants an ideal nuclear family, but reality becomes the biggest road block for him 😂 He's like the original David Brent/Michael Scott
This film is SO FULL of stars from other shows and movies. You guys caught Julia Louis-Dreyfuss from "Seinfeld" and "Veep." There's also Doris Roberts (Marie from "Everybody Loves Raymond"), Johnny Galecki (Leonard from "The Big Bang Theory"), Brian Doyle-Murray (from basically every movie his brother Bill Murray ever made), and Mae Questel (Aunt Bethany) was the original voice of Betty Boop and Olive Oyl.
Don't forget Juliette Lewis as the daughter!

This is one of my two favorite Chevy Chase films the other being "Spies Like Us" with Dan Akkroyd. Clark having a meltdown and going "Hallelujiah! holy sh*t!....where's the Tylenol....?" always makes me laugh most.
Hell yeah! the Griswolds at christmas, almost as iconic as John Mclane or Kevin being home alone for Christmas. Happy Holidays to you two, hope you have good ones

Also uncle Louis voiced the mad scientist in The Nightmare Before Christmas and aunt Bethany is the original voice of both Betty Boop and Olive Oyl.

This actually happened in my small town in Virginia. A guy put so many lights on the big tree in his front yard, it blew the transformer on our street. There was a loud POP!! And everything went dark. 😂

Funny there actually was a filmed final bit as a post credit scene where Julia Louis dreyfuss character reconciled with the guy and there in bed trying to look on the bright side of things and hearing jingle bells they think if I remember singing Santa claus Is coming to town.
Then the santa claus and reindeer ornament that flew crash into there bed.

This is def my favorite Christmas movie, it always takes me back to watching it with all of my family, and to me that makes it very special.
Christmas Vacation is my favorite Christmas movie with A Christmas Story being a very close second. While A Christmas Story appeals to the kid side of me around the holiday season and the memories of waiting for Christmas when I was a kid, Christmas Vacation appeals to the adult side of me with making sure the decorations are up, presents are wrapped, food gets made, etc. and trying to make sure that everything goes smoothly.
