Fun fact: Bethany, the ditzy older relative who starts singing the Star Spangled Banner at the end of the movie is May Questel, the woman who voiced Betty Boop and Olive Oyl, the latter for six decades.
Since the kids are always different in every movie, Johnny Galecki plays the Rusty in this one. You might recognize Galecki from the series Roseanne, and from The Big Bang Theory.
I like how Clark's father in law, who was always criticizing Clark the whole movie, was the first person to stand up for Clark when he called out his boss for cutting out the Christmas bonus. I never noticed that before.
What I love is the "realistic holiday" approach. All those 1950s movies show everyone singing and happy. A picture perfect scene. But this shows what it's really like: annoying in laws, the grouchy family, the embarrassing ones, (and drop by unannounced) all the bickering and arguing. It's "dysfunctional" yet much more "normal" then commonly shown in the past.
The first time I ever saw this movie, I literally cried laughing so hard. This is a an annual Christmas watching tradition for our family. So hysterical. European Vacation is the 2nd one, then Christmas Vacation, and finally Vegas Vacation. All of them are gems. And there is a running joke with the kids throughout all 4 movies, which is pretty funny. Fun note - the actor who play Rusty in this movie is Leonard on The Big Bang Theory!
The order is: 1. National Lampoon's Vacation 2. National Lampoon's European Vacation (R.I.P. to the daughter in this one - she died in the late 90s) 3. Christmas Vacation 4. Vegas Vacation They also did a new vacation with Rusty (the son's) family a few years ago.
First time I saw this one was in a packed theater on christmas eve when it released, and the entire audience was laughing hysterically nearly the entire movie. My stomach hurt by the end of the movie I had laughed so hard for so long.
Don't get how people dismiss DieHard as "not a Christmas movie"? It has all the tenents of the classic Christnas miracle story... right down to the last minute making it home to family, the unexpected "snowing" (bearer-bonds), the miracles, the savior, seeking redemption for recognized failures, clear messages about focusing on material wealth over goodwill leading to destruction, It is a classic Christmas tale - but people struggle to see it through an action lens. Hell, if you really look at ... it even has Christian references to walking on seas (of broken glass) and washing the feet of the poor and downtrodden. Or even the last 2 bullets - that he uses ultimately to vanquish the final villains as representing the holy trinity- one being the holy spirit, the other being the father, and the third being John ... the son (and savior) himself.
When this came out the return of the Cousin Eddie character was kept a secret in the runup to the release. It was a major, hilarious, surprise to see him on screen. A very big deal.
I found just the right artificial tree about 35 years ago. Tall, yet thin enough to fit into the corner of my apartment. I decorated it with lots of lights & add a few new ones (...along with some ornaments ) each year. To keep the dust off it....each year I cover it with large garbage bags...& it stays conveniently tucked into the corner until I unwrap it, plug it in & it's ready to go, when I need it. Instant Christmas. I think I've only taken it down maybe 4 or 5 times for a move.
We never put up the tree until AFTER the national holiday of my birthday... 13 DEC ... Now, the day I was born, my mother had to rest... But, that also gave birth to "The 12 Days of Christmas" song... The first day is an analogy of my mother holding me...
My parents built their house in 1986 and kept part of the upstairs open, and the other half was a loft with a railing over the living room. My dad built it that way so we could put a huge crhistmas tree in our house every year, we had trees that were 14 feet tall - the loft was handy because that's how we decorated the top
Seen this film every christmas since 1989,,, and its still very funny. I love how they changed the kids in every film,,, and they dont look the same. Watch out for some tv ads with chevy chase "old navy " sweaters,,, such fun.
I'm pretty sure Clark saved the decorating on the outside of the house for when the family got there because he wanted a break - gave himself an excuse to disappear lol
Classic for my family and I every year. Doesn’t matter what time of year when the WHOLE family gets together, before we say a prayer at a meal “the BLESSIINNGGG” is always quoted. Haha. Oh, Uncle Lewis 😂
My favorite holiday movie! 🤣 My husband works for a wine and alcohol delivery company and he just brought home a Griswold house wine box that holds 4 bottles of wine inside but the best part is that it actually lights up like the one in this movie! 😳🤣🤣🤣🤣
"Sassy" was a magazine for teenage girls. I actually bought an issue back then (and still have it) because there was an article on the punk scene. As a guy I felt a bit embarrassed at the register. By the way, "Aunt Bethany", the one with the funny voice, was played by Mae Questel. She was the voice of Betty Boop and Olive Oyl.
“The National Lampoon’s Vacation” series began with “National Lampoon’s Vacation in 1983 where the Griswolds as you mentioned went to Wally World. Then came “National Lampoon’s European Vacation” in 1985 where the Griswold’s go obviously on zany European vacation. Next came “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” in 1989 followed by “National Lampoon’s Vegas Vacation” in 1997. Those made up the original National Lampoon’s Vacation Franchise. There is a “National Lampoons Christmas Vacation 2-Cousin Eddie’s Island Adventure” from 2003 and “Hotel Vacation” from 2010 where Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo reprise their roles as Clark and Ellen Griswold who embark on on trip to visit their son Rusty but along the way Clark surprises Ellen with a romantic getaway that quickly turns into disaster. Christmas Vacation 2 was aired on regular tv when it was released and Hotel Vacation was apparently released to one or more online streaming services. Then the final movie in the National Lampoon Vacation franchise is a 2015 remake of the original National Lampoon’s Vacation movie simply name Vacation centering around a married Rusty Griswold and his family as he, Rusty, attempts to recreate the original family trip to Wally World from the first movie. The Family Truckster from the first movie even makes a cameo in the 2015 remake. Christmas Vacation 2 up through the 2015 remake of the original National Lampoon Vacation movie, I think, got mixed reviews from viewers.
Fun Fact: The neighbors house in this movie was eventually used in Wandavision as the home of Wanda & Vision. It was also used as Roger Murtogh's house in Lethal Weapon.
And Chevy almost broke his neck tripping over a toilet hidden in the hedge. It was the one from leather weapon 2 that a grip had moved out of the way after the explosion scene and everybody forgot about
I put mine up the Day after Thanksgiving, And they come Down January 3rd. RESPECT the Current Holiday! Chevy Chase was Famous for his Pratfalls during his Tenure in SNL, in the Early 80's.
I've seen this movie a hundred times and the part where Clark pulls the attic string and gets smacked in the face with the ladder never fails to make me laugh my ass off.
Every year I'm looking forward to this movie. Normally we watch old chech movies during Christmas but this is one of the few foreign movies that always end up on TV for us.
The first two movies (vacation/european vacation) are pretty good. Though a big thing to watch for so you don't get confused. The actors for the kids are different and they are age swapped. So the daughter is younger. Though they are closer in age than the two in this movie.
Ranking Order Of Awesomeness: 1. The Original National Lampoon's Vacation. 2. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. 3. National Lampoon's European Vacation. 4. National Lampoon's Vegas Vacation.
The guy who plays cousin Eddie in this movie completely lost his mind in real life. Most people don’t actually understand the dog keeps drinking the trees water so it was so dried out it exploded. The boss on this movie is bill Murray’s brother
You said the old lady, Aunt Bethany, has a funny voice. That's voice actress Mae Questel, who provided the voices of both Betty Boop and Olive Oyl in cartoons, starting in the 1930s.
Fun fact: Steven Spielberg requires a shooting star in every film he has a hand in and for this movie he was an executive producer. The other movies are consistent with the family of Clark, Ellen, Rusty and Audrey, as well as Cousin Eddie's but only Chevy Chase, Beverley D'Angelo and Randy Quaid are recurring cast members. Everyone else gets changed up to depict the same family members at different ages of their lives, but the Vegas one breaks that continuity by keeping Rusty and Audrey as teenagers.
It was Vacation; European Vacation; Christmas Vacation and Vegas Vacation. To me, Christmas Vacation was the real sequel to Vacation. I don't even know why they ever made European Vacation. It had nothing really to do with the other movies, except it involved the Griswald family. I think even their name was spelled differently in European Vacation- Griswold. The worst thing about European Vacation: Three simple words- NO...COUSIN...EDDIE!!!
Yes… I’m glad you posted the order they came out, I grew up watching these way back in the day. They are all funny in their own right, but European Vacation was my least favorite as well.
I loved your wife’s reaction! This is by far my favorite Christmas movie! I too grew up watching it from the time I was probably 4, like you! I’m so glad I was able to experience this movie throughout my childhood! I think I read recently it is the most watched Christmas movie of all time, which does not surprise me at all!! But yes definitely react to the original vacation! :)
Mom always wants to watch a movie on Christmas, but the only two she will pick is National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, or Elf. We alternate every year, this year will be christmas vacation again.
"Who starts putting up their christmas lights when the family is here?" You obviously don't have a big family! That is the point! To get away from them lmao!
Having your own swimming pool is fun, requires maintenance when can be done by a service fairly cheaply, or DIY. In the warm months, the family I knew with a pool used it everyday. They had kids, and the kids had friends, and when school is out you can get the kids out of the house with a pool in the back. I've known people who wore their swimsuits day and night until the chlorine ate the fabric away.
Don’t forget, the extra 20% will hopefully be enough to fly everyone out to celebrate the opening of the Griswold swimming pool. I hope Clark remembers to invite the sexy sales lady.
Running gag about these movies is Audrey and Rusty are played by different actors each time and they really don't ever look that much like one another.
Clark must have the best wife ever. When guns are pointed at them, she doesn't hide behind him, quite the contrary, she protects his privates. She's a keeper.
Cool reaction. Hopefully, in the near future and for the holiday spirit you guys check out Bad Santa with Billy Bob Thorton, Bernie Mac(RIP) Tony Cox, John Ritter, Bret Kelly, and Lauren Tom!

the order of the Vacation Movies is The American Vacation is the 1st one The Europe Vacation is 2nd and Christmas Vacation is the 3rd
Aunt Bethany in Christmas Vacation sounds familiar because she was the voice of Betty Boop and Olive Oyl in the 30s, 40s, and 50s.
This was her last on-screen appearance.
"Hello everybody!!" LOL
She went from a quintessential sex symbol to being the quintessential adorable grandma.
Really!? I grew up with this movie and never knew that! How interesting thanks!
She's still got it! Boop-Oop-a-Doop!
"Can't even see the line, can ya, Russ?"
"Nope"
I'm guessing Rusty got an early Christmas present of $50 to keep his mouth shut.
I’d say the real present was him getting the chance to see or not see the line, at that age.
Ha! True!
$50 would have been real money back then
“He’s still fired and you’re going to jail!”
Eddie: “Pffffff."
I like how Clark's father in law, who was always criticizing Clark the whole movie, was the first person to stand up for Clark when he called out his boss for cutting out the Christmas bonus. I never noticed that before.
Families may bicker but family always has your back.
@@Deathbird_Mitch That's very true.
This was the very first Vacation movie I saw on TV! It's hilarious! All Clark wants is a normal Christmas but not everything goes according to plan.
What he needed was a crazy wild eyed scientist to make him some anti gravity shoes.
We watch this every year because my mother is so much like Clark. She once swore at the sewing machine and punched it just like Clark punched Santa.
That is pure gold! 🤣🤣🤣
The National Lampoon movies are such a fun time. They hold so much nostalgia. This is probably my favorite out of them
3:44 if that’s Clark’s reaction to the suggestion of getting a tree from a lot, imagine suggesting to him that they get a fake one.
I love that Juliette Lewis went from this to 'Natural born Killers' in 5 years. Makes a lot of sense for the character arc... =))
Y'all are great. Keep the reviews and watch alongs coming. 👏❤
When you try to figure out who is "that uncle" in your family and realize.....it's you.
Or De Auntie with the red wine free style
I haven’t seen this movie in forever. Your reactions are so much fun to watch! Happy early bday Kacee! 🎂 🎉💖
A Christmas comedy reaction is just what we needed. 🎄
What I love is the "realistic holiday" approach. All those 1950s movies show everyone singing and happy. A picture perfect scene. But this shows what it's really like: annoying in laws, the grouchy family, the embarrassing ones, (and drop by unannounced) all the bickering and arguing. Grandpa yelling SQUIRELL! is the best part of the movie
You obviously forgot that the shitter is full.
Whenever a squirrel runs in front of the car on the road I always yell "SQUIRELL!" just like he did. lol
I want to be the Aunt Bethany of the family when I get old. 😁 One of my favorite Christmas movies is Arthur Christmas. It is hilarious.
one of the lines I fine the funniest is when Eddie is outside. and says shitter is full.
Kacee & Anthony
Clark's Aunt Betheny was played by Mae Questel who was one of the voices of cartoon's Betty Boop
Mae had very distinct voice that was made for Betty Boop.
Clark is one whammy burger away from the guy in _Falling Down_ .
I've always found the bit with Snots horking up something beneath the dinner table hilarious for some reason.
As for movie suggestions, try "The Ref."
Denis Leary is awesome in that!
In every National Lampoon Vacation, the kids change, even Cousin Eddie's.
And their ages fluctuate too.
You should check out "The Ref." It is too often overlooked. But is a hilarious xmas time film with a great cast.
The order is:
1. National Lampoon's Vacation
2. National Lampoon's European Vacation (R.I.P. to the daughter in this one - she died in the late 90s)
3. Christmas Vacation
4. Vegas Vacation

this, along with DIe Hard, A CHristmas Story, and its a wonderful life are my yearly mandatory CHristmas movies
The moose was Marty Moose. Marty Moose Marty Moose YUK that's me! 😂
HE OWES THE GRISWOLDS RIGHT? FUCKIN-A RIGHT HE OWES US!
I'm pretty sure Clark saved the decorating on the outside of the house for when the family got there because he wanted a break - gave himself an excuse to disappear lol
i don't blame him with how they are
Classic for my family and I every year. Doesn’t matter what time of year when the WHOLE family gets together, before we say a prayer at a meal “the BLESSIINNGGG” is always quoted. Haha. Oh, Uncle Lewis 😂
My family has watched this film every single Christmas for the last 35+ years.
Great reaction. Hi from UK. I watch this every Christmas my favourite. Chevy Chase too funny and his boss Bill Murrays brother. Christmas 🎄 ❤😇
My favorite holiday movie! 🤣 My husband works for a wine and alcohol delivery company and he just brought home a Griswold house wine box that holds 4 bottles of wine inside but the best part is that it actually lights up like the one in this movie! 😳🤣🤣🤣🤣

One of those yearly tradition movies for sure.
Our HOA doesn’t allow Christmas decorations until after Thanksgiving. Some stores start putting them out after back to school/Labor Day now.
I put mine up the Day after Thanksgiving, And they come Down January 3rd. RESPECT the Current Holiday!
Chevy Chase was Famous for his Pratfalls during his Tenure in SNL, in the Early 80's.
WHAT?! Is Kacee a December baby? I'm a 26th (worst birthday possible) and we're the weirdest club on the planet for sure. Cheers.
Hello felllow Capricorn. I'm a Dec. 25th baby.
Yes my birthday is on the 24th! 🤪 -Kacee
I've seen this movie a hundred times and the part where Clark pulls the attic string and gets smacked in the face with the ladder never fails to make me laugh my ass off.
For me it's the untimely death of the cat. Dark humor, but I lose it every year.
Every year I'm looking forward to this movie. Normally we watch old chech movies during Christmas but this is one of the few foreign movies that always end up on TV for us.

Love how the kids changed in every movie! John Hughes movies are all great!
How has Kacee made it 26 years without seeing this movie???
Kacee: I'm 25
🤣
Johnny Galecki as a little kid, that was a very long time ago! We see the movie every year at Christmas! Since it was available on VHS.
Finally, someone else knows Diehard is not a Christmas movie
This is easily my favorite Christmas movie, i will watch it all week long during the holidays. In my house it’s a must!!!
This movie is timeless! I'm 43 and watch it all year round. I miss watching it with my parents
The Original "Rusty" was Michael Anthony Hall, But THIS ONE Played "Leonard Hoffstedder" in "The Big Band Theory"... Johnny Galeki!
I nearly split a gut at the Pledge of Allegiance and cousin Eddie stands up. I forgot how hilarious some of this movie is.
The guy who plays cousin Eddie in this movie completely lost his mind in real life. Most people don’t actually understand the dog keeps drinking the trees water so it was so dried out it exploded. The boss on this movie is bill Murray’s brother
i recommend you react to :
-> National Lampoon's Vacation (1983)
-> Vegas Vacation (1997)
-> Vacation (2015)
My theory is Clark doesn't get that pool because he has to spend the money fixing up the damage to the house.
The kid who plays Rusty in this movie is Johnny Galeki who is David on Roseanne and Leonard on The Big Bang Theory
You said the old lady, Aunt Bethany, has a funny voice. That's voice actress Mae Questel, who provided the voices of both Betty Boop and Olive Oyl in cartoons, starting in the 1930s.

That movie should have never been made, as far as I'm concerned
With the Griswolds movies,Chevy Chase made himself immortal.
One of my fav Christmas movies we rewatch every year...
Also, Die Hard is a Christmas movie 😆
I loved your wife’s reaction! This is by far my favorite Christmas movie! I too grew up watching it from the time I was probably 4, like you! I’m so glad I was able to experience this movie throughout my childhood! I think I read recently it is the most watched Christmas movie of all time, which does not surprise me at all!! Mom always wants to watch a movie on Christmas, but the only two she will pick is National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, or Elf. We alternate every year, this year will be christmas vacation again.
They didn't have a saw to cut the tree down but they made sure to bring a shovel to up root the tree in case they forgot the axe??? 😂
Uncle Lewis is my spirit animal.
I went to my parents on thanksgiving and they already decorated for Christmas 😂 my mom loves Christmas decorations
Should definately watch Vacation and European Vacation on the channel.
Just remind her that cousin Eddie's is where they picked up Aunt Edna. 🤣
First, Die hard IS a Christmas movie. Ok with the obvious out of the way, we HAVE to see her react to the original. It's a must.
"If I woke up tomorrow with my head sewn to the carpet, I wouldn't be more surprised."
Who wouldve tought Randy Quaid would become cousin Eddie for real xD
"Who starts putting up their christmas lights when the family is here?" You obviously don't have a big family! That is the point! To get away from them lmao!
Having your own swimming pool is fun, requires maintenance when can be done by a service fairly cheaply, or DIY. In the warm months, the family I knew with a pool used it everyday. They had kids, and the kids had friends, and when school is out you can get the kids out of the house with a pool in the back. I've known people who wore their swimsuits day and night until the chlorine ate the fabric away.
Love this movie! Happy Holidays everyone!
The original vacation and Vegas vacation feature cousin Eddie and his family that exist in Christmas Vacation.
"I don't know how you've gone 26 years without seeing this movie"
How do you know she wasn't shown it at 3 months
You have a good wife sir let her check those moles I finally listened to my wife and it saved my life for now
The joke wasn't that he was shaking the box. It was that the cat was freaking out in the box.
simple answer to halloween decorations, make your halloween decorations nightmare before christmas stuff so that it matches through both Holidays
Clark must have the best wife ever. When guns are pointed at them, she doesn't hide behind him, quite the contrary, she protects his privates. She's a keeper.
Thanks to this movie, any house that is overly decorated for Christmas in a gaudy fashion is known as a "Griswold House".
THE Christmas Movie in my family.
Saw it as a kid and since then we watched it nearly every Christmas.
Great Comedy
Did you know that Rusty Clarks son in this one is actually Johnny Galecki from big bang theory?
Don’t forget Lethal Weapon
Fun fact, Clark's boss is played by Bill Murray's brother.
"He's TOO chaotic..." yes, but at least he's chaotic GOOD ;)
Cool reaction. Hopefully, in the near future and for the holiday spirit you guys check out Bad Santa with Billy Bob Thorton, Bernie Mac(RIP) Tony Cox, John Ritter, Bret Kelly, and Lauren Tom!
Fun Fact #2: Aunt Bethany was the original voice actress for Betty Boop from the 30's
