Loved this series. My MC707 will arrive in 2 days time and I feel I am very well primed to be creative from the off thanks to this excellent set of videos.
@@GullySyde28 Great so far! I also picked up a Mininova for a bit of diversity in the sounds (even though the 707 has a GREAT synth engine). I've been replicating a few classic tracks to get fully used to using it, but the 707 really is quite intuitive.
it would be great if you could give us the option to use the 2 midi out channels as separate tracks apart from the 8 tone/drum/looper tracks (kinda like digitakt does) No point in using up valuable tracks with only midi information and it shouldn't be too much extra work for the cpu to do.
Nice bit of kit RE the sequencer only having 16 / 128 steps per track though is a bit limiting . I remember using workstations and Drum machines in the 80s/90s that could sequence (and store) thousands of 'steps' to build & record entire songs so cannot understand why nearly all of these new machine's are limited to mostly '16 steps' only .
these videos are amazing and they really helped. question though, or request, could we see a page up style firmware update for external hardware whereby the extra channels arent entirely used up for mixing? kind of like you see on live format mixers such as the x32, where you can page up to a mixer section to use the fades to control overall levels, leaving the channels available for sample , midi, tone and drum tracks? this could make using more gear whilst have the groovebox at the heart of all that really powerful? ...not that it isnt already, but you know...I'm greedy.
Wish there was more tutorials. The manuals situation is a mess, have to search through many PDF's to find things because you don't update a live online manual. Pretty poor service for 2021. These tutorials are not even in a playlist. Who is uploading these videos to your youtube channel and not adding them to a playlist?
Maybe a stupid question but i cant find how to use the tie function.. And no where how to record a simple pitchbend from an external keyboard. Guess in the motion seq bit cant get it to work.. And even in this update no count in pre count in midi mode. Cant believe that something simple like a pre-count is missing. Everybody is so happy with the arp in 1.60.. but so much simple stuff is missing. Im almost at the point of selling the 707. Hope a new update is comming soon.
Hey Dustin, just figured out that the Pad Trigger Sensitivity setting must be on the minimum (10), then the pads respond fast enough, just like the Perform Pad on the TR-8S. So now all we basically need is a UNDO FUNCTION pleeeeaaase... :-))) Any info about this in future updates?
Hey, undo function is lit, also please let it safe the octave of the pads in the tracks. it always goes back to 0 when switched off and on again, cheers
Why didn't Roland put a crisp colour OLED screen in then colour code the clips? And is there a count in for the internal sounds for the sequencer? I can see loads of elektron octatrack owners selling their octatracks to then buy this. Octatrack is to complex but it does have the Elektron sequencer, cross fader and a crisp OLED screen.
Hello there. Nice tutorial. The MC-303 was my first groovebox and years later I bought the JX-305, so one of the reasons I bought this one was nostalgia. 😊 The other reason though was the live looping part, where I wanted to replace my RC-600 in my live setup. Though 2 things are withholding me from this: 1. I didn’t find a way to quickload projects. Doing this during a gig via the menu is nearly impossible. 2. Vocal looping is not very efficient. Can you please help with some advice ? 😢 Cheers
Amazing presentation really! Can you select a Mod or MFX, record automate it and then go change assigned parameters? Or are automations only possible with 3 parameters?
Have you understood how the "scene chains" function works? I did not understand whether it is possible to save a scene as a set of clips and then call them in a chain without specifying the next clip number inside the clip.
The Roland manual isn't very clear - what happens if I set my MC707 up to use an external fx chain - say I put it on the "delay" send/return... and also use an AudioInsert on say track 8 that says it inserts the audio from the 'return' inputs. Will the signal from the return inputs then be sent to both the main mix (as it normally would, when using send/return) AND track 8, essentially doubling its output ? Asking because it would be very nice to have an external fx chain (be it delay send or reverb send) which output I could route to track 8 of the MC707, to enable dub style mixing.. (using the fx knob to feed the fx track signal back into itself, using the fader on the fx track, etc) But that won't work if the return signal will *also* be sent to the main mix. If that's the case, my solution would be to use the send out to the fx chain, but have the fx chain output connected to the Ext in instead of the return. That way I could use AudioInsert on say track 8 and insert the audio of the Ext in, thus having the fx chain output on track 8 - enabling me to use the fx knob on track 8 for feedback fx...
Say I have an external midi device setup like in the video and I put in a sequence. Can you adjust gate length, velocity and pitch per step and how? I did not see this in the manual or anywhere I looked.
I am trying so hard to understand why I cannot send the 8 tracks from the mc-707 to 8 separate tracks on Ableton Live. Is that possible? I selected the mc 707 as my audio input, and selected sync from the midi tab of ableton settings. I also made sure that the usb mode on the mc 707 is on vendor, but nothing, I can get maximum 3 tracks working separately and the rest would just not working. I have a Mac Mojave 10.14 and I run Ableton 11
Hi Dustin, thanks for a great video! It is helping me to understand the 707 much better. Just one question, when you input external audio can this audio be recorded or just goes directly to the output mix? Thanks again, cheers!
How do you take a wave file and get it into the sample slice window directly? I’ve been putting it in a tone track, then resampling it to get to the slicer, but I feel like there should be an easier way. Also, how do you change instrument per clip on a track? I switched an instrument today on clip 2 and clip 1 change was effected
