Getting to Know Roland AIRA Compact Series
The AIRA Compact line is Roland’s most portable to date. These machines pack the most punch possible into the smallest physical footprint. Roughly the size of an iPhone Pro, each Compact brings an impressive range of sonic firepower. Whether you’re looking for a computer-free performance setup, a travel-friendly musical sketchpad, or hands-on control for a DAW-based studio workflow, these boxes provide ample flexibility. In this video, meet the individual members of the AIRA Compact family and learn their key features.
The T-8 is Roland’s most miniaturized re-envisioning of its classic machines, combining the best of the TR drum sounds with TB-303-style bass. On its own, it’s a tiny, powerful drum unit, allowing for complex beatmaking using iconic Roland sounds.
A chord sequencer at heart, the J-6 offers a streamlined method to create chord progressions and sequences of arpeggios, chord repeats, rhythms, and strums. This unique device lets you string these together to create elaborate and dynamic melodic phrases. It’s a remarkably compact songwriting tool.
The E-4 Voice Tweaker is a powerful vocalist toolbox with auto-pitch functionality, harmony, vocoder, and looper. It functions in many ways, from basic vocal treatments to wild, jammable effects. A fantastic performance tool, the E-4 is an excellent fit for artists who want sonic shaping and sequencing capabilities for live vocals.

Best video tutorial about this sampler
What type of SIM card does or should it use?
How does the scatter function work for external instruments controlled via MIDI?
I already have the MC 101 is this one a good complement or just the same thing?
I had all of Aira, but they got stolen from me :(
Anyone know if it's possible to connect the T8 to a tr8s? Does it need synced or buttons pressed?
Tnx for the clear info!!
This machine is fucking madness. Not for beginners for sure LOL.
Brilliant tutorial thank u love beat at very end what was the cool sound effect?
anybody solved the USB 2 PC Noise Issue? tried it with an USB Isolator and Y USB Cable for AC and Data... didn't work 💀 drives me nuts
I've just got mine and loving it. So far, the only feature I wish it had is round robin sample triggering. No need for fancy velocity layering etc, but assigning 2-3 samples to a pad for round robin would make this instrument even better.
Roland, your marketing team did a great job. [I'm a sax player that consequently wanted to get a sampler after seeing some stuff online = new customer!] However, your workflow development team and the content of the demoes sure haven't made it easy to introduce newbies to this machine. Finding it really challenging and clunky, like it's designed for those who already know. I'm going to try it for a couple more days, but tbh I've been seeking alternatives that allow me to have a chance of being/staying in any kind of flow. A video series titled 'SP404mkII for Newbs' would be very welcome. :)
Hello there. Nice tutorial. The MC-303 was my first groovebox and years later I bought the JX-305, so one of the reasons I bought this one was nostalgia. 😊 The other reason though was the live looping part, where I wanted to replace my RC-600 in my live setup. Though 2 things are withholding me from this: 1. I didn’t find a way to quickload projects. Doing this during a gig via the menu is nearly impossible. 2. Vocal looping is not very efficient. Can you please help with some advice ? 😢 Cheers
It’s a great workstation with many possibilities, but (until now, for me) not usable in a live context.
Great for tactile creativity. How about issuing a new version with stem separation?
How do i download this video? Not TH-cam premium.
is he Recloose?
i was looking for when pressing fill in that is only active when pushing it instead of playing a whole sequence
when i know every combination and trick on the tr6s, then I'm ready for the mc101. 15 months later, I still not own a mc101 hehe
Just ordered the P-6. Can’t wait for the first T-8 P-6 jam. A sampler is the perfect addition.
I've been having fun with the MC-707 but Roland has apparently decided that they are done with it. Still no side chaining unless you do it yourself wasting LFOs. Still no way one can use that awesome bank of 24 knobs to edit sounds; yes yes, performance macro control, sure; but not actual ZENCORE parameters when you're fiddling around deep inside there. Still no way to put arbitrary MIDI messages into the sequencer; yes Roland, some of your old gear needs more than just "program change" one needs to be able to send it "control change" when a clip starts (or better yet on any step) and some even need "system exclusive" messages. Still no probabilities on tone tracks. Still no ELEKTRON-style "1:3" or "3:4" or whatnot, instead I have to slave an ELEKTRON device like the Model:Samples in there and have its sequencer play the MC-707 for me, wow. Oh Roland. You made a device that you're afraid of, didn't you? Because you know if you added the remaining features you'd have a really hard time ever selling us another groove box. So I understand, makes good business sense to just "look away" and leave it alone.
This comment is from the future from when this was made. Hopefully in my future, I would like to see manufacturers stop using sd cards or thumb drives and give us a network connection on your devices. I am willing to pay more for it.😁
If you press edit, then style, you can scroll to hold and turn it on. To stop playing press style. Put variation to 12 and notif on chord and style to 53 and you get like a 16th per measure timing. I just had to figure all this out on my own because I don't see any of this information out there😅.
Why can't I get the Filter, Mod, or FX knobs to do anything to the incoming EXT IN or Returns?
i have a push 2 and an apc 40 mk2 running ableton live 12 suite. is it worth getting an mc707? or maybe an sh4d?
Why nothing for TR8s?
Well if no one else is going to say it I am, dude’s head is nuts!
Does anyone know if there's a hold or latch to continue playing after one pad press?
Is there a new one of these?
I am trying so hard to understand why I cannot send the 8 tracks from the mc-707 to 8 separate tracks on Ableton Live. Is that possible? I selected the mc 707 as my audio input, and selected sync from the midi tab of ableton settings. I also made sure that the usb mode on the mc 707 is on vendor, but nothing, I can get maximum 3 tracks working separately and the rest would just not working. I have a Mac Mojave 10.14 and I run Ableton 11
The video is soooooo helpful. Roland is great!
I love the demo of the E-4
Thank you so much for this in-depth video about 505 big cheers to you brother , it has helped me a lot abt this machine
This is such a great piece of gear, I definitely want to buy one. I've used roland juno-gi for a long time and I wanted to upgrade and found this baby.
Big Big Big Thanks For Your Efforts !! )) All the Best and Good Luck !!!
It's boring way to record. I prefer a loop station. I can do so much more and quickly.
Would this be good for performing live on stage? Or is this only for studio work? Is this like Ableton in a box?
I bought the roland 505 used. Can you confirm that the performance pads do not have the "click," such as play or cue? I have no feedback when I press them and I would like to understand if this is a problem with my purchase or was it born that way. I am selling from the native instruments world where pressing the button gives feedback. Thank you
Roland has been hit or miss for the last 20 years (their instrument UI is often a disaster), but this one is a hit! It needs a better display, but other than that, it’s a great piece of kit! Nice work!
I love the Rolcas!
How about telling roland to add a 16 track sequencer
Maby it's because I'm as old as dirt but do you notice you have to use two hands to perform a lot of functions because you can't lock the screen. Still in my opinion its the best of the SP series
Great video. I went from zero to a half-finished track in quick time! Thank you.
Omg all those shift+x, shift+z, this+this+this, then this+shift+this 🫠.. why isn’t more simple ? Wtf we need to be genuis with Einstein’s memory 🤣 I give up, gonna try tr-editor tomorrow, praying it can be opened/compatible with Live, with the possibility to save kit and patterns in tr-editor. Es. It should be more ergonomic with direct knobs for things 90% of use want : kits, sounds, pattern. As if all the ergonomic have been made for weired things 1% users look for ; or in other words : we need 30% of those specs, and all ergonomy shall have been thought focusing on this, 🥱 70% for 🤏🏻% nerds. My own pov off course. A tr6 100% ergonmy only on 30% specs 90% users are looking for, away 70% specs for 10% users (or only one knob « advanced » for those)
I got this now. I wonder if next should be MC 707 or 101 😁 if the 707 wasn't so huge, it would be a no brainer.
9:50 drum plus comp
Borrowing one of these from a friend. I own a behringer rd-8 & rd-9 already. Not so impressed with the tr-6s emulations of those sounds tbh. The Kick on the tr909 kit is especially bad. Sounds too distorted. I was hoping to enjoy the fm sounds, & I understand that they had to make the fm parameters limited to make them useable… sadly it’s too limited . I can get better sounds from a volca drum.
Don’t want to be all negative though: The sequencer is great, the fx are good & the usb audio thru is great 👍
What kind of idiot doesn't allow the use for single cycle waveform? WTF minimum of 1 second for a sample? Bunch of idiots, I should had bought a Digitakt. You owe me 6 hours of my life.
Hi! Can i move, copy , cut the vocal files? Can i record stereo audio track . For example if i wrote a song on keyboard and want to put it into verselab and make recording of my vicals instead of computer?
If they are .wav or mp3 files I believe you can do this !
Is this 👆🏾 calculator allowed in schools? 😂🎉
Not LaPosa NORTH, it was at SOUTH…I remember NOW, because I went to get water and SOUTH has the only water stations available within the Q-LTVA (long term visitor areas south of Quartzsite, Arizona), and time-slowed-down…as I gazed at a Nizhoni creation, with a bad back “leg”, which is why I thought, “oh, that’s why it’s’ here…”. But I got closer and then a vibe came-2-me…a person either “got so frustrated with it, getting a rear flat despite all the $$$ spent- yes it had SLIME in it, too but it wasn’t a “thang4thesedesertthorns”… and the person said to him/her self…hmmm this bike HAS been a jinx for me, perhaps I “donate” it to the LTVA DUMPSTER SIDE, and another WILL steward it! Or it was STOLEN, and ye owner misses his/her, baby. Well , Pancho what do we do? Tone, we do the correct thing that aligns, with OUR 🪶WalkINBeauty🪶
