V2.0 FEATURE REQUEST LIST: Hey Roland, if you are REALLY listening, here is a new list of suggestions for v2.0 that I think you should really incorporate at the very least...(in no particular order) 1. Blank Default Kit - The Initial Kit should have no samples loaded. It should just be a blank kit, not a 909 kit to start off. 2. Note Repeat/Roll - Sequencer should allow recording of 8th/16th note drum rolls, similar to the TR8S and BeatstepPro (Recommended Function: Shift+15 and Shift+16) 3. Note follow - Measure pages should ‘follow’ the current note and measure pages should change automatically (Recommended Function: Press both 'forward' and 'backward' buttons at the same time to activate) 4. Mixer-style 'level' lighting - Slider backlights should be able to emulate track ‘levels’ similar to on mixer so we can see what’s going through each track (I know it’s on the screen, but it’s so small). The lights are already behind each slider, don’t see why this couldn’t be done easily. 5. Drum pad LED off - Ability to turn off LEDs for drums pads when they’re not being played (Currently it’s hard to differentiate which pads are being played as they are always lit) See BeatstepPro 6. Select LED off - Ability to turn off ‘SEL’ LED for all non-selected tracks. It is hard to differentiate which one is active, even with lowered LED light intensity. 7. Warning signs off - Ability to turn off screen warning signs when pasting or overwriting clips. It’s a little overkill right now and ruins the flow. 8. Sidechain - Sidechain/choke functionality between tracks 9. Track name view (big) - When selecting a Track, the screen should show the track name in Bold letters. Should be able to have this on temporarily or permanently 10. Preset Organization - Please allow us to save our favorite presets into our own created folder. Its kinda ridiculous that we have to scroll through every preset to get to ones we like. 11. Allow live sample recording to write to an SD card instead of the internal memory (if possible) so that we can save much longer samples! 12. Nudge steps - Would be great if we could 'nudge' steps to get varied drum patterns or melodies Hoping folks can suggest anymore features you have in mind in a reply to this comment, would love this to be the best sequencer out there! Thanks everyone!
Thanks Bo. I've wanted a Groovebox since I was a teen in the late 90s. I've agonized and obsessed over the purchase of the 707, which I'll most likely buy in a couple months. Your videos have especially helped me understand what this device can do. I'm very thankful.
Another thing I discovered after the update, if you sample by pressing Shift and Project, then choose Sample, you can sample directly into the system RAM. When you press Load, it adds your new sample to the next free sample slot. This means you can sample the Mix Out or the Stutter with Master Effects etc and then load the resulting sample into a drum pad. Since you have 12mins of system sampling RAM (mono), it gives the 707 near unlimited possibilities by bouncing several tracks or vocals onto drum pads. Roland have made the 707 a lot better with the upgrade.
I don’t get it? When I go into the sample section from shift+project it gives me the list of samples and if I go to record at the bottom of the right hand side it still only has the 60s of recording??
@@Simmonsssss There is a maximum of 60 secs per sample, but there is 12 minutes in mono of sample RAM. If you sample into the looper RAM you have only 2 minutes of sampling time. By sampling a looper track into system RAM (playing the looper track and using the sampler to record it) you can then assign the recording to a drum pad, freeing up the looper track which you can then delete. You can't sample more than a minute in one go, but you can sample 6 minutes in stereo (12 mins in mono) in stages, if you use the system RAM (sampler) rather than the looper.
Such a cool device. There are however a couple of things I would love to see that are kind of deal breakers 1. Overdubbing on the loop tracks! It's not really a looper if you can only play one clip at a time 2. MIDI tracks with audio returns so you can run external synths and feed back into the 707 without having to use two tracks It feels like there is a lot about this device that is geared towards studio use, which is all well and good but live electronic music is really suffering and I'd like to see more devices for performance
Can't say number 1 bothers me, it wont bother any ableton user, cuz abletons always been this way. Having this many loops to switch between is worth so much more than overdubbing one loop. and if you want to layer, just use more than one loop track. You can have up to 8 loops playing at once with full control over each. That blows any other pedal looper out of the water. number 2 is definitely a good idea tho, ableton has that and it'd be nice to see here
You can save a looper sample to the card now, then load it into the sys RAM and from there to a drum pad, effectively a much higher number of looper tracks. Joy!
I'll just point out: this directly illustrates how KORG dropped the ball with their Electribe2 updates. And I'm saying that as someone who has always defended the Electribe2. KORG: hint - if you built the Electribe 3 properly, people would pay US$1000 for it.
although i agree Korg missed the boat i wouldn't be paying 1k usd for an electribe!! it was never that good and the dsp sucked, it was also noisey as hell
Yeah the ESX2 has its good points but had 600 secs of RAM for 250 patterns? More than enough for drums I suppose. Having all the RAM as a single project RAM is a better idea, that way you would have 10 mins sampling per project. I hope they make an ESX3, really like the Electribes
David Brown Kong always forget updating y debugging their products. It is not the case with minilogue monologue, but I don’t trust them. The same with Arturia, those companies sell products and create new ones to continue selling. Roland seems to be changing, but certainly the mc 707 has features that should be part of an update for tr8s firmware....but Christmas!
I really wish Roland would bring back the Variphrase sampling from the V-synth and VP-9000! But these updates look fantastic, i think the mc707 is on my wish list now
Nice...sounds great! Good to see an update and Roland does indeed listen though here it seems good news. It does seem they often have no interest in upping the anti on other products with weaknesses but so goes the game. Good to see that it worked out well for you (and Roland).
WOW Amazing vid a lot to unpack, gonna have to watch more than once :) Question if I wanted to quickly sample let's say 200 sounds from an external synth to the 707 library , which approach would be best. (Not worried about naming part I will rename later). Thanks in advance
Hey Bo, long time/ first time- thanks for all the things you do. This was VERY helpful. Dumb question- how do you rename samples ? Such as when it says 'Wav#' or "recorded sample#'? Also, if you create a drum kit from samples, is the only way to reload it via the Project workaround method you showed in this video or can you make new folders? Sorry for dumb questions. Luv ya!
I was gonna get one of these but found an old machinedrumUW that I think is better suited for me. Just can't beat that elektron sequencer and parameter locks!
I really like what you do and I will love get your opinion on a minimal techno / trance uplifting package. I was planning to buy an Analog Rythm MK2 and an Analog Four MK2, as well as a Roland MC 707 and TR 8S and for the bass line a mb33 mam, a Korg Xd rack, Electribe 2 in this way j 'will have a varied range of sounds. What do you think? No Elektron and Roland duo? Do you have any other suggestions? Thank you in advance for your response and advice
Hi bo, how about resample? is it easy like digitakt where you just change the input to internal and record? I can't find any info on resample on the 707!
Hi Bo, please ask Roland to make use of the physical panel controls when editing delay settings. One of the reasons Echoboy is so loved by pros is the fact you can edit the delay patterns directly - but damn is it fiddly as shit! This could be a massive plus.
Sorry if that wasn’t clear - I mean using the pads and sliders or pots to map out a pattern of delay echoes and their velocity/volume for the delay lines.
I wonder if this or the digitakt has more screen diving? I record guitar and make chill hop music so this mc-707 is looking intriguing with this new feature. I’m always running out of space on the digitakt and I hate that it doesn’t have pads. Still on the fence about selling the digitakt and buying something like this.
i’d say they are similar in complexity... with the digitakt offering more complex editing (para and sound locks) for creative sampling. But 707 is much easier for sampling loops and one shots now. And stereo sampling. But lacks that nice elektron sequencer. I wish it had better param locks
This is great stuff for sure...but still my biggest request to make this unit truly useful for the type of live performing I do = more than 60 seconds of recording time for the looper!! (at least 3 minutes please)!!!
Hi Bo once you have sliced are the slices only at the positions the MC707 creates? I noticed that the kick slice was started at the beginning on the wave form but the snare etc had the start of the waveform clipped... If the grid created by the slicing is not movable then slicing seems s bit incomplete... As the ability to accurately begin/end your slice is critical to a successful capture of a sound... Thanks
Funny really, i spent 25yrs+ squinting at *Akai MPC* and *S1000/3000* blue phosphorous screens, and after moving over to Logic 4yrs ago, i thought surely i won't ever have to buy a new product with a tiny screen on it, - but i might have been mistaken...
What do you think about this vs akai force? I work with Maschine and intend to continue working with maschine - but also like to have something stand alone that i could take with me or just jam without being tied to a computer. I have about $1k so i can fund one or the other. Seems like the mc 707 is simpler (?) but has some cool features like p-locks which the force doesn't ( and needs lots of workarounds to get to) etc. But on the other hand the force has more features, bigger screen. more memory and more pads. What do you think?
Have you understood how the "scene chains" function works? I did not understand whether it is possible to save a scene as a set of clips and then call them in a chain without specifying the next clip number inside the clip.
@@maus3454 it's a very useful and simple way of chaining together patterns (clips or scenes) so that the machine performs your song when you hit play. It leaves you wide open to live manipulate your song as it plays, for example tweaking the filter, using scatter mode for transitions etc etc. If Roland thought everyone was going to change clips, scenes and do performance tweaks all at the same time like a machine then they have definitely lost the plot. It's hard enough just to remember what parts you have on certain clips and scenes to flow the song the way you want never mind adding performance effects at the same time!
Both your reviews on the MC707 have been exceptional. I am a guitarist looking to update my repertoire and make it more interesting and rhythm driven. i think this may be the best solution and the most versatile live performing tool for free style?
@G Mmmm I was stretching my budget anyway. There is no way I can justify the price of an Oktotrak. But thanks for the pointer I am still looking for the right tool.
@G Haven't you tried an Octotrack? It's not the easiest or most logical instrument to use. MC 707 is not perfect either of course but it's cheaper has faders for more direct control and it has more internal sounds and is more portable etc etc
This part right here. I'd like a similar beefy form factor that the 8800 has as well. I don't want something portable. I want a tank which the 8000/8800 is.
I am not really a groove box user, but the MC-707 looks like a very capable sampler. Looking at it like that, if the MC-707 could time stretch with tempo changes I would certainly get it. At the moment I can only do this with my Octatrack, which is now in use for all my recorded vocals as I generally do not stick to a certain BPM when performing tracks in my studio. I like the idea to delegate this to the MC-707 and be able to use much more of the potential of the Octatrack. Could you please tell me if the MC-707 supports time stretching?
@@erwinvandiggelen977 i will also advise it's not amazing. lol. I mean it's not as powerful as a daw, it's using similar/old algorithms found on the mc 909 which was released well over a decade ago, it's very basic time stretching and you WILL notice/hear the stretch on samples no matter what adjustments you make to the algo, even changing the tempo just a little bit and is immediately obvious on +/- 10bpm time changes... i would seriously advise you to demo it first. It also depends on the sample. The stretch can sound grainey, sometimes you can use this to musical effect but hmmmmm.. it's not stellar in conclusion.
If Roland had made a synth edit mode, where all the track knobs controlled parameters for the selected tracks patch, with motion recording (parameters labelled with a different color font underneath)... leaving the four edit knobs free for fx tweaking...I'd buy this in a second. I'm sure it would be possible in an update.
Is it possible to record sequences without using the step sequencer? I’m used recording 16-32 measure loops on a Korg Triton. I know how to step sequence but prefer spontaneous live play .
Thks Bo please we need more tuto about elektron overbridge and digitakt digitone recording inside DAW (recording effects best flow etc......) keep on the good work
I know its highly requested.. asked me a week ago I would have said ”not likely” but given that roland seem to pay attention then maaaaybe we can get something like that?! I will push for it anyway
@@BoBeats Pretty sure they know song mode is the MOST requested feature already since they can see the poll on the facebook group.. they just won't/can't do it
One more dumb question- is there a piece of hardware that will sample and slice in real time? I've heard the Octatrack does this, but is it possible to do while the unit is playing? Does the 1010Blackbox do this?
Hey Bo. Your instructions on how to SAVE samples that have been recorded to the Project Pool isn't working for me. I go into Project>Samples>Edit and hit Func+Enter, however it doesn't save anything and I just hear the wav preview. Am I missing something here?
Tjena Bo! Still no way to record pitchbend or modulation using external hardware like the Novation SL MkIII. The signal gets in the 707 and the knobs move graphically and you hear the change while playing and using the mod wheel or pitch bend wheel. But the sequencer doesn’t record it. So this seems like a really basic feature. Any thoughts on why Roland deny this on the MC707? Keep up the good work Bo! And please use your influence and speak to Roland on this. Shouldn’t be to hard for them to make the sequencer record pitch or modulation via external hardware. I know it’s doable with the onboard knobs but that is unintuitive I think. BR /Mack
I havn’t tried this and I am not surprised it doesn’t record it. Its not uncommon that self contained boxes doesn’t allow for recording of external cc messages. Digitakt comes to mind. I will write this down on my wish list! Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve already sent a bunch of feedback to Roland and some of it they have acted on (ofc not due to me alone but i hope adding my voice to the choir helps)
Hi. Can 707 playback chopped samples like a 404 sampler does? One-shot playbacks and all that? I mean , when I hit a pad, sample is playing, and then I hit one more time and that sample plays from beginning
Hi @BoBeats - just investigating if the MC707 might be right for me and I have a question - can I record and slice a sample, then load it into a track; all live, while other tracks are still playing?
I'm testing out this new sampling feature but I have a question about the length of the sample after I assign it to a pad. It seems the sample volume is fading out and it's not playing the whole sample like it is supposed to. Is there a setting for the pad to play the whole sample instead of it fading out? Thanks in advance
Hello! I recently bought a mc 707 and installed the latest firmware 1.5 Can you tell me where the sample slicer is? I can’t find it where it should be. Case in firmware 1.5?
Does each project get 62 seconds of recording time or is that max? I also can't remember what the limitations are samples wise (say you have a 1 minute sample you want to playback on one pad).
Hi Bo, I just recorded a sound via Project into the project pool for later use, as you explain at minute 1:50. But it seems it is not possible to load this sound later into drumtracks, neither tone or looper tracks. It's not either possible to export samples recorded via project into the SD card. Looks like this feature is half backed or not finished. Or am I missing something?
What about if you create an export map on the sd card via computer, is the export function possible that way by pressing func+enter? Having the same issue
I wish there was song mode, and I wish there was a way to have an editor so I can use this attached to my computer as sound module. Also the lack of CC means you can't use it as external controller either.
@@stebo5562 You mean via midi ? Because from my understanding, there is no audio over USB; so you can only send midi, play on the 101 and get the audio from the 1/4 connectors. Unless I missed something. I would like to see a desktop stand-alone editor, kinda like Arturia analog lab for example, or even a VST to change parameters in a DAW, but I understand that both the 101 and 707 are not made for that purpose; they are grooveboxes and live instruments in the end
You can buy a MC707 using this link and support the channel: redir.love/ZXvaPQxT (affiliate, Thomann)

Great update. Now with a song mode on the next update I will buy this again
Exactly why I sold mine, no song mode
What is a song mode?
@@maus3454 it's a very useful and simple way of chaining together patterns (clips or scenes) so that the machine performs your song when you hit play. It leaves you wide open to live manipulate your song as it plays, for example tweaking the filter, using scatter mode for transitions etc etc. If Roland thought everyone was going to change clips, scenes and do performance tweaks all at the same time like a machine then they have definitely lost the plot. It's hard enough just to remember what parts you have on certain clips and scenes to flow the song the way you want never mind adding performance effects at the same time!
Hi, great video and product, question.. can I load a 5min wav in there as a sample? Such as an vocal track?
Nope. There is a 1 min limit on any sample I believe. I tried loading a 4 min track and just didnt work
@@BoBeats Thanks.. Is there a groovebox out there that I can play my 5mins songs in to as a wav and then add say keys or single hits to?
Degluge ir mpc Live
@@une2967 take a look at Deluge from Synthstrom Audible, i *think* it can do this
Just chop the vocal into smaller parts.. makes it a lot easier to manage as well.
Thank You Bo
I hope Roland will listen a bit more for a song mode, midi track and a full midi implementtion
so firmware 1.3 is out. Roland didn't listen :(
Both your reviews on the MC707 have been exceptional.
Check out the deluge by synthstrom. I was in the same boat looking for something to live jam with and this works awesome.
@G
It's not overpriced and it's better and easier to use in most ways than the octotrack.
@G
Haven't you tried an Octotrack? It's not the easiest or most logical instrument to use. MC 707 is not perfect either of course but it's cheaper has faders for more direct control and it has more internal sounds and is more portable etc etc
Dave Moore did you find a groovebox that fits your live performance needs ?
Just rebuild/update the Mv8800....
Then takeover the industry ..
This part right here. I'd like a similar beefy form factor that the 8800 has as well. I don't want something portable. I want a tank which the 8000/8800 is.
Tre Angle 😇
i fuckin WISH. but i'd want it more portable, like the MPC live, or small like the MPC 1000.
Tre Angle lol ok
Is re-recording a loop improved? Or does it still require erasing the existing loop etc?
there is still no real looper
Have do you save a kit for export to another device or Zenology? I can only figure out how to save project.
Many thanks BoBeats. I will look into it straight away
I’m really enjoying my new mc-707, just need song mode on the next update! (And LFO function for samples)
Can you not use the LFOs to modulate the samples?
I am not really a groove box user, but the MC-707 looks like a very capable sampler. Looking at it like that, if the MC-707 could time stretch with tempo changes I would certainly get it. At the moment I can only do this with my Octatrack, which is now in use for all my recorded vocals as I generally do not stick to a certain BPM when performing tracks in my studio. I like the idea to delegate this to the MC-707 and be able to use much more of the potential of the Octatrack. Could you please tell me if the MC-707 supports time stretching?
it does support time stretching yes
@@TH-camSupportTeams Thank you for bringing this happy news. The MC-707 is definitely going on my wish list.
Can I hook this up to a Xone 96 and sample an incoming track from a CDJ / turntable?
Nice update. Now if we could get Roland to reissue some of it's earlier synth gear, a lot of people would be happy.
Nice update, thanks for the great explanation video
Is it possible to record sequences without using the step sequencer? I’m used recording 16-32 measure loops on a Korg Triton. I know how to step sequence but prefer spontaneous live play .
If you prefer live play then play it live
Is it possible to decrease the record sample rate?
Should I wait for the Octatrack MK3 still?
Still waiting?
Thks Bo please we need more tuto about elektron overbridge and digitakt digitone recording inside DAW (recording effects best flow etc......) keep on the good work
This is all very nice indeed. Any word on song mode, though? ;)
no song mode means it's never coming in my opinion, just like i thought. roland failed.
I know its highly requested.. asked me a week ago I would have said ”not likely” but given that roland seem to pay attention then maaaaybe we can get something like that?! I will push for it anyway
ʀᴇᴛʀᴏᴀᴄᴛɪᴠᴇ “Failed” is a strong statement. In my opinion, the MC 707 is an amazing instrument. Song mode would be the cherry on the cake.
@@BoBeats Pretty sure they know song mode is the MOST requested feature already since they can see the poll on the facebook group.. they just won't/can't do it
@@pcostanza imo they did fail.. they know what customers want and won't deliver, that's a fail from me
One more dumb question- is there a piece of hardware that will sample and slice in real time? I've heard the Octatrack does this, but is it possible to do while the unit is playing? Does the 1010Blackbox do this?
how about similar features update on the TR-8S ??? After all it must be a similar synth engine !?
Henri Sizaret it really feels like the tr8s has been abandoned :( Roland’s customer service is useless!
707 uses zen core tr8s uses their virtual circuit modeling engine which is actually better but has less polyphony
Hey Bo. Your instructions on how to SAVE samples that have been recorded to the Project Pool isn't working for me. I go into Project>Samples>Edit and hit Func+Enter, however it doesn't save anything and I just hear the wav preview. Am I missing something here?
Can I have 60 seconds of loops on each of the eight tracks and have them play on time and effects? Do you prefer this or the digitakt?
can you load sounds when teh sequencer is playing ?
@@BoBeats I think same for the After touch from my Montage
Yo Bobeats, can you change the key of a scale? Like can I have C# minor? And create in the key and scale?
Super helpful!
Difference with Roland mc707 and Akai force?
Can i record idk 10 sec of melody from extrnal synth and save at mc707??
Maybe they should finish the tr8s updates a bit pissed they pushing the 707... it could easily replace the tr8s
Hi. Can 707 playback chopped samples like a 404 sampler does? One-shot playbacks and all that? I mean , when I hit a pad, sample is playing, and then I hit one more time and that sample plays from beginning
Bo,
How can i export a sample to the sd card. I don't find how i must to that.
Thanx.
So... this or Deluge?
Hi @BoBeats - just investigating if the MC707 might be right for me and I have a question - can I record and slice a sample, then load it into a track; all live, while other tracks are still playing?
Hmmm, maybe you can but... wouldnt recommend it. Its quite the slow process
Is there a way to save a sample that was recorded from the drum track into the SD card?
Modular Sound Bath I feel like he was about to touch on that at 8:06 but it cuts out to the next section. I’m also curious if you can do this
can it loop overdub (like pedal) now?
Nope
I'm testing out this new sampling feature but I have a question about the length of the sample after I assign it to a pad. It seems the sample volume is fading out and it's not playing the whole sample like it is supposed to. Is there a setting for the pad to play the whole sample instead of it fading out? Thanks in advance
I'm having this issue as well did you find out the problem? I think I fixed it in the sound envelope settings but wasn't exactly sure what I did
Hello! I recently bought a mc 707 and installed the latest firmware 1.5
Can you tell me where the sample slicer is? I can’t find it where it should be. Case in firmware 1.5?
Now we only need a nice MC 303 style Arpeggiator and Beige Color
Very nice
why is your mc 707 loading that fast? mine is taking ultra long time to open up the browser (o.O)
Can u als9 twll.Roland to add the Sample Trim and start point feature found on Sp808.and others... srry if this is already done..
Hi great video , i am trying to record a wave file from my pc , but do not have anything registering on the recorder . Am i missing something simple ?
All sorted pc settings !
Song mode! Now!
Anyone having issues exporting to SD card? I’ve tried and there is no EXPORT folder in my Sample folder, does not want to save into my SD Card
What about if you create an export map on the sd card via computer, is the export function possible that way by pressing func+enter? Having the same issue
I wish there was song mode, and I wish there was a way to have an editor so I can use this attached to my computer as sound module. Also the lack of CC means you can't use it as external controller either.
an editor would be a little easier but its quite easy to just create midi out tracks in your daw and send them to the mc
F C
I believe there is audio over usb Roland does that on a lot of things
GREAT AGAIN ....!!!
is the 62sec limit global or for each sample?
