  • video goes thought how I cleaned the evaporator box on my 80 series land cruiser.
    I had poor air flow on air-conditioning once cleaned the air flow doubled and was ice cold. I now don't have to run the fan on full to get the same air flow.

    This is a great video! I used your guidance as a step by step to remove and replace the evaporator on my 1990 HDJ81. I was dreading the task but it ended up being not too bad. A lot of work just for a cleaning though. My evaporator was trashed and was really dirty and full of crud. I just got a new one from Impex, no issues with the install. Yes, my AC system had R12 which I had evacuated and am doing an upgrade to R134a. Thanks again for your videos!

    It is also easier to clean if you use a vacuum cleaner first to suck most of the Debris out before you wet the muck. great job.

      I was going to say exactly this. Avoid the mud and vac out first.

    A little tip for anyone trying this. When I was washing out the box my drain hole/hose got blocked. I put a wet shop vac on the drain hose under the car and it pulled out the blockage. Now draining 100% clear.

    I got around to cleaning my fan and evaperisor in my 80 series.There were a couple of leaves and a feather in where the fan is,and having cleaned it out,I now have a quiet running fan.As for the evaporator fins,what a mess,absolutely covered in years of gunk, I couldn’t see the fins at all. I sprayed the gunk with some car wash in a spray bottle then let it sit for 10 minutes,then lightly scrubbed the gunk from the fins.Took me 4 goes to get the fins cleaned up.My a/c was cold,but now since cleaning the evaporator,I nearly get frost bite😆.I’ve also noticed the a/c compressor now cuts in and out which it wasn’t doing before the big clean up.Thanks for the video,it really helped me out.

    To get around the drain plug clogging up when doing this, I drill a 20mm hole in the bottom left near side to allow it all to run into a bucket in the drivers well. When finished, simply install a rubber blanking plug, and you'll be ready for the next time.

    I just wanted to come back here and say thanks for the video. I cleaned out my evaporator and fan today in my 1995 Landcruiser.. We have steering wheels on opposite sides and I had to remove a black plastic housing around the fan that I didn't see in your video, but it helped a lot to follow your process.. My AC and heat feels like it has doubled it's flow. Nice! Cheers....

    hey mate, just wanted to leave a comment to say thank you, the AC on my familys 80 series has been mediocre at best for the last few years, even after a new compressor and regas and the addition of a condensor fan. I followed your steps, cleaned that dash fan and hosed down the evaporator which was covered in gunk and man, its made a very noticeable difference; blows way harder and colder too.
    thanks for taking the time to make this vid

I’m asking because I live out bush and the mechanic said some models of 80 series have a filter to stop too much dust getting into the system but my model stent have it so I was going to make my own but I don’t know where the intake is. Currently doing this on my Left Hand Drive 93 80. The drain is somewhere on the passenger/exhaust side. I'm just using a spray bottle with hot water and dawn soap, luckily was able to dig and vacuum out all the large stuff. Luckily it's still draining however I can't locate the drain tube? Anybody have knowledge on this? It's dripping down the frame and i'm letting another round of soap soak before I spray with just hot water from another spray bottle. I've been shooting compressed air in as well and have had great results im just worried the drain may block up

    • @blackllama1
      @blackllama1  ปีที่แล้ว

      Is it possibly that the drain tube has been pulled off. It should come down past the frame and stop. If it’s dripping if the frame there is a small chance it’s gone and it may leak and wet your carpet. In theory it should be almost directly under the evaporator box in the car.
      I hope that this helps good luck with it
