Homelite xl12 ignition module install

This little module will bypass the old points and condense. I forgot to mention that these modules will work on any old 2 cycle engine as long as the coil is on the outside of the flywheel. Enjoy and subscribe.

I ordered a new coil not thinking that the points could just be dirty points. I will convert it over if need be. I will install the new coil( $10) as returned would cost more than the $9 it cost for the coil. I will order that module if cleaning the points doesn't help. I am doing the chain saw job in exchange for a Craftsman riding mower with snowblower.

I would of checked points cleaned it adjusted it to .015 check spark if spark still weak replace condenser there cheaper then module. Module are great but not as reliable also makes engine rev higher which can shorten life of saw. If use module turn high jet more rich

Do you remember if that black wire was positive or negative, just need to know so i can wire it appropriately found a 72 xl-12 laying in a dumpster does run but then wont restart till it sits 10 minutes, and the spark is really weak. I was going to convert it to an electronic ignition and it should be good. Any help would be appreciated, thanks

@campbellscollision i wonder if your switch is off and diverting the signa, but the black wire was hot. I did it exactly as the video had shown and it worked great

Hi There,
i was just wondering could you send me a link for the module you used Or just the name of it. I've a homelite super xl automatic from the 70's that was my grandfathers it's in real good condition and I'm sure its a problem with the points. So i'd be interested in installing one of those modules you used in your video. God bless and thanks
