Great job! I'm in my 60's and have been cutting my whole life. I've had a few myself. One time a forester asked me when I'd be cutting a real heavy leaner that was on my strip and he showed up with some other foresters and a movie camera at that time. As you know it's a real process to cut a big tree with a hard lean. He filmed the whole thing. When it was finally on the ground I asked him why he brought his friends and filmed it. He said he'd been looking at that tree for 30 years and wondered who was going to donate their life to get it down. Wanted it on film he said and he brought his friends because he didn't think he could pack my body out all on his own. That was real encouraging! But it all worked out just fine and he confessed that he had full confidence in me or he would have suggested blasting it down. Soon as they all left though, I changed my shorts. LOL Be safe out there.😉

I have the same machine, but I take care of mine. My pins are in fine shape. Your main complaints (everything is worn slap out) are due to low or no maintenance. Can't blame that on the equipment. You mentioned that it was your neighbor's tractor, so that may not be your fault. What tractor do you have?

This also was my first saw (I'm on #7 now). I bought mine in 1995 new and it is still running. Out of my seven saws, this is my favorite for limbing operations. I'm going to put it on the bench and pressure test it for leaks, it feels/sounds like it might have one. I am so loyal to this saw that I am planning on a complete rebuild to both the top and bottom end. Thanks for sharing your video and story.

Excellent discussion on how to split the case and remove the bearings. I enjoyed your views on the various tools that come in handy and what you can improvise without having the tools. Buying all the tools for me doesn't make since because I just need to fix my saws and buy the time I'd buy all the tools I could just buy a new saw.

I know this is an old video but I ran one of those 270s for a summer and I absolutely loved the cab on it. And that thing was so stable on steep ground. I just wish they were a little faster in the stick.

A couple suggestions to aid in making more effective video. First have camera/mic on side where the tractor is in the background. That way lighting and mic should be more effective, with camera providing better view of the task performed. Also, the light glare should be eliminated. Another alternative for best results would be for the camera to be on the shop door side of the bench. Hope this helps!

I agree the 455 is a great saw and definitely has plenty of power. Seems to burn through a tank of gas a little faster then the 55 but it’s all about trade offs.
