Hi Leon, the 031 was the first saw that I bought when I was 14 years old. That was 38 years ago. It is still one of my favorite Stihl saws. Haven't had one for many years. That is a nice one you have there. I run 261's and 460's when I'm logging. I do have a XL12 and a 400 automatic that I play with when I'm just cutting my fire wood.
Love your videos buddy!!😁😁 Keep them coming!!😁😁👍👍

Thank you and TJ very very much. I just spent hours researching that damn module. The unit I'm working on is a TS 200 AV cut off saw. Very rare bird. Finding info on it is difficult. Finding any videos are impossible. I found one site that listed the module and showed what other saws it fit, the 031 being one of them. There are tons of videos of guys replacing points with this module that you installed, but yours was the first one to show replacement of that electronic pickup. Now I know that the replacement module you installed is compatible with this design. I had the same thing happen to me. Rebuilt the carb, cleaned up the machine and got it ready to give back to the owner and lost spark out of the blue. I'm gonna order a trigger module now with reasonable certainty that it should fix it. Thanks again, Peace

I bought a flywheel puller like you have several years ago after I got tired of cleaning up the threads on the crank. It works fine. Just screw it down on the flywheel, tighten the center bolt down onto the end of the. Rank and hit that bolt with an impact. Off comes the flywheel with no damage to the crank or flywheel.

Couple of years ago a guy brought me 2 saws, neither of which ran. I always do a compression test 1st, spark 2nd. 1 saw showed it had good compression but obviously didn't, wth! The other saw had the same compression reading, wth! Bad compression gauge! Thing is he walked away thinking I was yanking him around & no matter what was said would change his mind. I did buy another compression gauge but life happened & I quit working on 'em.

..wow, I have been working on saws for 30 years, and there on your bench sits 2 saws that have always been my bane... the Mini Mac and the Stihl 031...we all know about the Mini Macs...but the Stihl 031's ignition system has always been a sore spot for me...even the electronic conversions I have done haven't been entirely successful(yes, I know you have to reverse the polarity)...it's very hard to find a decent place to mount the module where it won't be subject to excessive heat, sawdust, and vibration, and the wire routing and connections are dicey(much simpler to install one on, for example, a Homelite XL-12)... I always thought the fuel lines and carb boots/pulse lines were a pain, also.. IMHO, this saw was over-engineered....

Only thing worse than having a piece of equipment you repaired not start is having to tell the customer his saw was stolen. I recently lost 10 saws due to a break-in. Kicker was they were all parts saws. 2 of those were Poulans that I don't consider to be much. 1 of those was the customer's saw. I keep my saws somewhere else & also the customers but I failed on his. I would like to see the looks on those clowns faces when they tried to start 'em! Another of those saws was a very nice looking MS271 Stihl, no compression.

Great video. Loved the commentary. Unfortunately I can’t see anything you are talking about. Can you move the camera in closer to the work ?

Okay I have done everything that you have shown me. I have great spark, However, I get the same spark with the off/on switch in either position. So how do you stop it from running? As the on/off switch need to be able to break the circuit. Wired that way it by passes the on/off switch.

There seems to be a replacement coil that is self igniting, simply pull off old coil and Install replacement with a new connection to kill switch.j
