  • You can enjoy all the benefits of a low-carb, keto, or carnivore diet on a budget! Dr C gives lots of tips/trick on how to eat cheap keto and/or cheap carnivore on the daily. If you're on a fixed income or money is tight you can still feed yourself the proper human diet on a budget from discount grocery stores where ever you live.
Dr. Mark Cucuzzella, Air Force Reserve Lieutenant Colonel (ret), practices at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Martinsburg, West Virginia. As a Professor as West Virginia University School of Medicine , Mark developed and adopted an inpatient protocol for using a low-carb diet for patients with obesity, prediabetes, and type 2 diabetes. Practicing what they preach, the hospital eliminated all sugar-sweetened beverages from the hospital. Mark was instrumental in bringing MEDCHEFS to the WVU School of Medicine in 2013 with a focus on understanding insulin resistance. An advocate for evidence based policy and education, Mark is a founding member of The Nutrition Coalition, a board member of The Society of Metabolic Health Practitioners and The Hypoglycemia Foundation and is a scientific advisor for Diet Doctor.
Mark’s current research interests are diabetes remission, the use of continuous glucose monitors, and carbohydrate reduction for severe pediatric obesity. He also leads a clinical group "International Multidisciplinary Diabetes Remission Working Group" who just completed a textbook chapter for Ketogenics on medication reduction in Type 2 diabetes adapted from the article Adapting Medication for Type 2 Diabetes to a Low Carbohydrate Diet.
He lives in Shepherdstown, West Virginia where he also owns a small community running store and directs running races and camps for youth and adults. His book “Run For Your Life” summarizes the science and the soul of running, nutrition, and physical activity to help you maintain a vigorous life.

Thank you Dr. Berry for everything you do! My income is SS and $23 in food stamps. I live in southern AZ and here we have a Food City which is considered a Mexican grocery store. They have the 73% ground beef which come in these 7-8 lb pkgs for $2.99 lb all the time. They always have chicken thighs and legs for around $1.29 lb. My local Safeway had london broil for $1.97 lb. I bought 20 lbs and pressure cook it and it is just so delicious & tender. I buy the cheap white eggs from Walmart. 75% of my meals are ground beef and eggs. Once a week I eat liver. I also eat sardines, canned salmon, and chicken. I buy bacon when on sale and save that precious bacon grease to cook my eggs in. I buy what's on sale and everything taste so good and I am never hungry. God bless you and your family.

The clamshell package of salad greens is $4 for 4 ounces. That is $16 per pound, folks. Then you have to buy all the stuff to put on the salad. Or…you can get a pound of premium ribeye steak for about $16. Carnivore is cheaper than rabbit food.

I hate being part & parcel to the lies being told about ALL aspects of care & being powerless to do anything about it. I want out SO badly but am not close enough to retirement age to do so & I can't afford to quit & work at Walmart or whatever. The day I can get out will be a HUGE celebration day for me!

All they sent besides the tea was carbs carbs and carbs. So I did a water fast for the 3 days I was there. The care was wonderful as they brought the LPNs back, which relieved the RNs to do all the orders and paperwork and deal with the complicated cases. Actually this might sound silly but I miss working.

I reclaimed my health after fighting, pancreatic cancer, stomach cancer, and I did survive. I realize that the food that I had been eating as a young woman was literally slowly killing me. So I began with a local nutritionist and they came and helped me have small grow beds where I grew my own berries and my own vegetables and herbs, too. Coupling all those healthy food groups with really good healthy, lean carnivore meat that was locally grown along with locally hatched eggs. I am now alive and cancer free going on 14 years. I attribute all that to my diet. I am now firm, believer and live by this mantra. “ if you cannot pronounce what you are eating why are you eating it”
I am now on the process of writing a book how I survive these cancers, and one day I would like to share it with you as well thank both of you doctors that I finally discovered you while I’m healing from a broken foot and I’ve been eating nothing but carnivore with some vegetables and I’m hoping I can lose some weight because I’m non-active so I’m working on my cookbook. Thanks guys for all your help.

I buy 10 lb. Ground beef tube from Walmart for about $27. 27% fat(high quality, walmart is biggest beef buyer in the world) I slice that while wrapped into 1/2 " thick burgers. 4 packages of bacon, 4 sticks of butter and 18 eggs is probably $50.
This is more food than I can eat in a week.

From the Arctic. Canned salmon is mostly pink salmon. It is not pretty or fancy enough for fillets so it’s not farmed and less sought after by fish mongers but it is the staple salmon the people in the region live off of. We call it dog salmon because it’s so plentiful we feed it to our sled teams as well. Great stuff. We love to smoke it.

I am currently 37 weeks pregnant and was diagnosed with gestational diabetes at 34 weeks - I was on a clean Carnivore diet before I got pregnant and had lost lots of weight (which I am sure helped me get pregnant in the first place). Early in my pregnancy I just couldn't eat or smell any meat or eggs. I was so disgusted and completely fell off the wagon for a while. Eventually I started eating meat and eggs again but also ate bread and other processed foods, gave in to sugar cravings, had unhealthy snacks and literally just ate anything my brain wanted 😐
In a meeting they had me attempt, where they talked about how to eat with gestational diabetes, they said to NOT cut carbs and have some with every meal. I did that on day 1 and spiked my blood sugar through the roof with just 2 tiny potatoes (they recommend 200-300g cooked potatoes for a meal here in the UK).
Being diagnosed with gestational diabetes reminded me that this is not what I should be doing - for me and for my baby - and immediately went back to Keto/Very low Carb and my blood sugar levels have been fine since. Will definitely continue after birth and am happy to be back on track!
Going to head over to Neisha's channel as well for some insight on breastfeeding! 😊

Extention of stay started with excessive opioids shutting down his bowels. They put him on IV nutrition. For the 5 days of IV nutrition, where they had total control, his glucose was bouncing between 200 & 300, never below 200. I think Chef Jean Pierre has a video on how to make it. Then I put it in a jar in the fridge, but it will last a long time on the counter too. It’s the milk solids that will eventually go rancid, so removing them is why it lasts so long.

I drink tap water. I buy: sardines, canned tuna, oysters and mussels at Dollarama. I buy the most expensive and best quality eggs available at the health food store, Carrot Common. I buy bags of avocados and lettuce in Chinatown. I'm almost 75 years old. I walk everywhere. I carry my own shopping in my own shopping bag. I don't pull any shopping buggy behind myself. The Save-A-Lot store about 30 minutes from our home has a meat sale a few times per year. Last month I was able to buy 19 T-bone steaks, 8 ribeyes, a huge pack of pork chops, along with a couple packs of chicken wings for $173! My wife and I had passed on buying t-bones at Walmart because they were like $36 for a two pack. I bought the same two packs ( with bigger steaks) for $11 a piece at the sale. I was on a weekly biologic injectible medication "Enbrel," with other prescriptions like Celebrex, Methotrexate, Tramadol & Prednisone at times that made my immune system sick and my body obese & weak starting at the age of 27. I started eating a ketogenic lifestyle in September 2019, and now I'm mainly carnivore "Ketovore." This way of eating is the only thing that has helped my weight loss of 60lbs, severe pain, inflammation & metobolic health. My entire team were physically fit warriors before we deployed. Most of us gained weight and felt worse coming home. I think 2 reasons for it. #1 lots of high stress followed by medium stress and repeat. #2 food. We got 1-2 small servings of protein each meal and unlimited carbs. Hungry? Have some more carbs. I work in a not for profit and the people are on low incomes so I thought of it as making a donation.

That’s useful information. For others facing this dilemma, you can trade with neighbors or even give away that food instead of throwing it away. I gave my food away. It actually was a bit difficult to give away unopened high-carb food to friends after I thought it wasn’t good to eat, but I rationalized my actions by telling myself they would just buy that same food themselves.

The doctor insisted she needed to have broth. I had brought some home made. I left for a few minutes and came back to find her with a cup of the stuff from a packet that has gluten in it. I have learned that “arm steak” can be cooked like a ribeye or NY Strip. It is often on sale when chuck roasts are on sale, as it’s part of the same big piece of chuck. Anyway, salt and season it 24 hours in advance and cook it no more than medium rare in the air fryer at 400. If it’s really thick, I cook it about 10 minutes on one side then flip it over and cook about 8 minutes on the other side, then flip it and cook it two minutes on the first side again. The let it rest 5 minutes. Slice it on a the bias (45 degree angle) and across the grain. I actually just serve myself the whole huge thing and carve it bite by bite with my steak knife. Also several times a year Kroger runs NY Strip on sale at a great price. Instead of buying the thin little steaks most people think are “healthy portions,” I go during the day when the butchers/managers are there. The will sell you the entire NY Strip at the same low price. I take them home and cut them in luxuriously thick (2 inches or more) and freeze them. Every man loves a satisfying generous piece of meat, and that’s how I get it without spending a fortune. Also, here in Texas, whole briskets are often run on sale. HEB has “Prime One” which they market as prime grade. I don’t know that it meets usda standards for prime, but it’s good enough. Anyway, buy a whole brisket, ct it in strips small enough to go through your kitchen aid mixer meat chopper attachment with the large gauge grinding plate, then repeat wth the smaller grade. Go ahead and add seasoning salt, more garlic if you like, and a half cup of Dale’s steak seasoning (gives a soy sauce flavor). Make those in 1 pound chopped steaks and freeze. Makes extremely tasty, juicy chopped steaks. There are so many things to enjoy from the meat department while getting satisfaction that one is doing good home economics in the process. Grind up that whole brisket, fat and all, and stock your freezer with that beefy brisket, ground to make delicious beefy entrees. Also, get some top round and tenderize it with the blade device that breaks down the connective tissue. Roll the tenderized steaks in full fat thick buttermilk, roll it in seasoned flour (season the meat to taste, also, before coating. Roll in almond flour or any suitable no or lo carb flour substitute. Sauté in clarified butter, or half olive oil, half butter. So make 50 huge chopped steak patties for $30 - $40. Also, eggs are coming down. A three egg omelet with some cheese, with a jarrred salsa topping.

I lost 3 pounds just this past weekend with eating out Friday night with a martini and 2 beers in tow. Don’t worry, I don’t do that often. I have about 15 pounds to go then I’ll start weight training. Here’s to loving life lately!!!!!

Costco and Aldi are my go-to-grocers for meats.
I buy organic pasture raised eggs at Whole Foods because there are several brands that compete and there's usually a sale.
Wild Fork is primarily a frozen meat retailer. Although they have a huge range of meats that includes fancy, exotic and expensive meats, Wild Fork also offers bulk bags of inexpensive meats. I particularly like the big bag of frozen 1" cubes of stew beef. They have bulk bags of wild caught salmon, lamb, chicken and more. I buy beef liver once a month as a treat because I love it when I cook it myself but I hate when restaurants overcook it. Exotic meats include ostrich, yak, elk, alligator, kangaroo, as well as more common rabbits and venison. They carry a wide variety of water fowl and sea foods. Their corporate office is down in Florida and I would love to see Dr. Ken Berry interview someone from Wild Fork.

Thank you gentlemen ! Dr C I have your running book, watched your videos and you helped me with my wide feet & arche(s) issues. Wider natural toes in shoes with no to very limited arches. ( FYI for anyone with such, Our arches can weaken through non use bc of shoes having so much, too much, arch support and not letting the muscles do their job, and causing issues. Bare foot running. Who would've known ?! Mostly bare foot walking for me (72 yo ) with & without shoes after yrs of having problems, which I thought were normal.

73/27 ground beef fried up with a lot of salt. I eat that stuff and it’s like I just popped a limitless pill. I want to say that I can literally feel my brain firing, and it feels amazing.

My VA doctor in Northern Colorado was super supportive of my low-carb diet and fasting routine. She was amazed at the improvements to my biomarkers. They do exist! Just ask for a PACT that will support your goals. And don't give up.

I've only been on the carnivore for a month so take what I'm about to say with a grain of salt. But I have actually saved money on carnivore. I would spend easily $20 a meal eating junk food on my way home from work. You can't order a number anything from any fast food restaurant anymore without it being roughly $15. If you are feeding a kid too there ya go 20 bucks gone per meal. Instead I hit up a local grocery store and grab a reduced cut of whatever is available and it's usually 6 to 10$ a pound. And honestly this last month my appetite has dropped so much that pound seems like alot by the time I finish. I also buy the 10 lb tube of ground cook that all up bag and freeze. That's some easy food in the pinch. I'm estimating here but my personal eating cost has probably been cut in half if not a third.

Your military service is appreciated more so than a civilian because I was born in a Navy hospital, raised as a military brat and married a serviceman. I earned Capt commission as a Nurse Practitioner and it's a privilege to serve.
