January 11th | Hot Toddy Day

Today is Hot Toddy Day. You know, that warm, somewhat alcoholic, spicy and lemony hot beverage you drink to soothe sore throats and help you sleep? But did you know it didn't start out that way?
In this short I'll share a quick history of where the Hot Toddy comes from and how it made its way to our shores and the hot beverage we all know today. Originally, it wasn't served hot, but it did take its name from the Indian word, 'TAADI' the slightly fermented sap of a palm tree.
A Hot Toddy is typically made from whiskey...any kind of whiskey...sugar or honey, lemon and then whatever else you'd like to throw in. Some people like it just like that while others enjoy additions of cloves, cinnamon, bay leaf or even star anise, ginger, rosemary and other herbs, spices or fruit.
