Titanfall 2 and Dishonored 2's time bending levels were both amazing. They created fun new challenges and really opened up the creative potential on how to get through them. Kudos to both dev teams.
See this has come up before and they missed it there as well. The time travel mechanic was ripped off from Prince of Persia sands of time and Warrioir Within. Especially the second one where actively moving backwards and forwards in time progress the levels and changed the areas. As in on section where you do a water puzzle and then later needing to go back in time to undo it so that you can progress. But this then impacts you again later both if passing through or in the second cycle. The game has you replay sections it as different characters in different parts of the timeline.
InFamous should have been on this list. Kessler being revealed as future Cole trying to mold him into being the superhero he failed to be is still one of the best endings to a video game or story in general.

Great list. I would personally have added the Ringed City from Dark Souls 3 too. Traveling to a future where the world has finally come to its end, where you and Gael are the only souls left. Gael mutated and driven mad in his quest for the pigment of the Dark Soul was heartbreaking and you are the only one who can save him by putting him to rest. Never played dragon quest but that honestly is such a cool mechanic and I love how they revert your character back to that point skill wise. Those kind of wild rpg mechanics are the ones I love
The main character actually is not reverted back, he keeps all of his skills, and he carry all of their friends equipments too. Only their friends got reverted back to low level, and you can immediately give them your better equipments. It's not really a bad thing, because you can just gain their level and relearn their skills faster after reaching the point of story where it start to differ from the original timeline, and it's not really that lengthy, because despite most of your heroes are getting reverted back to low level, your main character isn't, he can solo all of the enemies even bosses after that certain boss, then suddenly the random enemies are totally changed from the original, giving lot of exp to make your party catches up fast to your main character.
I'm a bit Dragon Quest fan, and there's always a post-boss section of the game. Often just an extra dungeon with leveled up enemies and some extra bosses, or a boss rush mode. DQXI was almost an entire other half game; not only do you get to go back in time and redo one of the most pivotal and emotional plot points, but you're OP as hell (the hero retains his items and abilities, it's just the rest of the party that's leveled down) and get to continue a whole new time line with new missions and enemies. It was genuinely so cool to see them do something so ambitious and new for a series that's been going for 30ish years.

It sounded hokey as fuck and I just HAD to buy the game and figure out how it was all pulled off, and they did it brilliantly - especially with the time travel mechanic. Most games that muck and meddle with time travel always leaves you with a void - a cognitive dissonance that leaves you hollow from the inherent contradictions of the very concept, but DQ11's implementation gives you a sense of finality simply because that "do over" allows the MC to rescue and preserve the entire DQ universe and it's specific line of heroic descendents. The nostalgia and emotional rollercoaster you as the MC go through to establish yourself as the FIRST in the Erdrick line was just so phenomenal that I've been considering a second playthrough of it for the last few months.
Idk but the Temple of Time level in TLOZ: Twilight Princess blew my kid brain back in the day. Because you have been in that place before, it was in ruins but it holds the Master Sword and you are like "Ohh, this place definitely was something back in the day" and then all of a sudden, you are in the Temple in all its glory with magic that is advanced af but even for this Link time, cannot be replicated. I still stand by it, Twilight Princess is a top 5 Zelda game in my book.
I like the part at the end of bravely second where the traveler takes the ability to use bravely second back to the first game and gives it to the character you played as in the first game. The bravely series is full of time loops and using meta knowledge at the end of the game.
Actually, Time Travel doesn't technically work that way. Chrono Trigger has the Back To The Future time travel paradox problem. One example of this paradox is the Forest that Robo plants.
Titanfall 2's time switching level was mind blowing when I first played it. You have soldiers shooting at you in the past, and dinosaurs attacking you in the future, and you are frantically jumping back and forth fighting two battles at once.
12:38 -> Good to remember that, after defeating the Sisters of Fate in GoW II, you go back in time to stop Zeus from killing you (what happens in the first 20min of the game). Zeus scapes and you travel in time one more time to “rescue” the Titans and climb and attack the Olympus together, which ends up being the cliffhanger (no pun intended😅) to the trilogy’s last installment. WHAT A GAME ❤
When I first saw the video title I first had prince of Persia warrior within in my mind, and then dq11. I still enjoy PoP’s time travel to this day, the way that you use the mask, dahaka chasing you as a consequence, and the secret ending with the water blade. Aaaannnddd you actually get to take the queen home! All dreams fulfilled
Parkour-ing through different timeline is soooo satisfying in Titanfall 2. i mean the movement in the game itself is already fun, but the added time travel based obstacle really add to the fun
I was actually stunned as well. I could have never imagine someone pronouncing him like that. If this was a joke, Wow - well done, but i highly doubt it 😉 Gene Reno.. Lmao
Missing from the list: * Chronotrigger - Take your pick. The entire game is about time travel. *Command and Conquer - Red Alert 2 - Yuri's Revenge - Bonkers but fantastic game about changes to the past in a time machine. * Day of the Tentacle - Time machine used to good effect.
Dragon Age Inquisition has an entire Timey-Wimey quest called "In Hushed Whispers". This is the quest you choose to do if you want to recruit the Mages. It's good enough, though most people felt it was just a way to shoehorn time travel into the game..."for some reason" ;) . One can only assume it's because it's going to be some mechanism for DA4's story. That being said, the quest to recruit the Templars instead was far superior story wise.
@@caliburn1123Really? I think it's a vastly weaker quest. The Timey-Wimey stuff doesn't make sense...it's a terrible macguffin that really has no place in DA. It's never properly addressed, especially all is said and done, and don't get me started on haw Fiona is supposed to an educated Grand Enchanter but does stuff that is profoundly stupid and nonsensical. I DO prefer Samson as far as the secondary bad guy, but Calpernia is good as well. I've always felt we should have been able to do BOTH quests, with diminishing returns on how many people get from whichever we choose to do second- though to be fair, it's barely noticeable that we get anything with either one. We get Fiona standing around being worthless, and we get to promote Sir Barris, and have him involved in War Table missions, which was nice. Fiona should have been imprisoned and/or executed.
DQ11 could have been explained a bit better, it's choosing to go back in time, lose all those memories with your friends, lose all those characterization changes to go back in time and save the one friend who sacrificed herself to save the whole group You go back in time and your best friends are more cold to you, they haven't travelled the world with you as much, your enemy turned bestie hates you again, you're restarting a lot of your friendships to save one person. Like if you could go back in time could you rizz your current partner? maybe maybe not
I also loved the conflict in the characters losing all their development. Particularly xxxx (no spoilers) who stepped up big time after the sacrifice. That was heartbreaking on both ends…
in bioshock infinite burial at sea episode 2, elizabeth comes back to columbia for a while. she takes an elevator and while the elevator is going down, she sees herself and booker talking to daisy (one of the missions of the main campaign). i hope if there is a part 2 for this video, you consider this one too
This has been the best video in months. We need more videos like this. Like maybe moments in different games related by something, in this case that something being time travel.
I just played titanfal 2 this year and only knew that everyone loved the mech. Cause and Effect blew my mind and yes it is really crazy that the time mechanic really only exists for that level. It feels next gen. Super good (of course most people already new that).
I wasn't expecting that twist at the beginning of Dragon Quest 11 where the dark lord just yoinks the Hero's powers and I'm like WHAT and it goes crazier from there. Although I didn't like the act 3 I felt like it went on a bit too long but other than that DQ 11 is sooo good.
Life is Strange in episode 3 when Max time travels back in the middle of the game and I thought they'd completely change the story in the middle of the story
Magicka's time travel was pretty cool, going back in time and taking a completely different route, and learning about a bunch of mysterious dialogue, I really enjoyed it
@Falcon brother i hear a definite pep in your recent videos and I'm really loving the fact your truly finding your way of bringing your awesome comedic entertainment to the news of games! Thanks to all you @gameranx
My favorite time travel use is in Bravely Second where it's revealed the reason Deneb was the generic shopkeeper in the two games was because they needed to keep meeting you as much as possible to save Tiz's life, and the easiest way for them to do that was to just be the generic shopkeeper in an RPG. (It helps that they're also the save point) So they just time traveled to the start of the first game and became the one person you would keep running into since boundaries on space-time don't apply to them.
That Onimusha time travel with Jean Renault was awesome. I was a kid when the game was released and I remember playing it with my dad. The fact that Jean Renault was in the game was somehow mind blowing to me and I loved it. good memories
I knew Unity and Titanfall 2 had to be here, great time travel bits in games. Loved those bits in Unity and Syndicate in particular, the closest we'll get to modern AC
Titanfall 2’s makes it one of the best FPS campaigns ever, if not the best. EA deserves all the hate for not realizing what they had, and gamers deserve bad games for not supporting it.
You guys keep ignoring "The legacy of Kaun" games. Like in Soul Reaver 2. You go to the future and to the past and even end up killing Yourself just to be revived as a Vampire by past Kain.
Onimusha 3 was my jam back in the day! Always loved the series and when I heard about the story I knew I had to get it. That was the first game I ever pre-ordered.
So happy to see one of my favorite series mentioned, Onimusha!!! Such a good call out, loved the series growing up and been hoping for a remake with the REngine!
It's a shame there's nothing from Quantum Break here. I was actually in awe at a couple of the 'time is broken' sequences, and there are some powerful story moments tied to the time traveling as well.
As if the number one slot wasn't given to Zelda The Orcarina of Time. I still remember the first time I pulled the master sword out of the pedestal and traveled through time to become adult link and growing into all of your equipment. I never even seen it coming. Also for how different Hyrule had changed from Zeldas castle to Gannons Castle. That game was remarkable for its time and still holds up today.
While Titanfall 2 still has the best singular instance, I'd also like to point out Final Fantasy 14. It comes near the end of a huge, complex story, so I don't want to spoil it, but for the build-up to it, it doesn't seem like it'd be time travel, so when it actually happens, you and your character are just in complete bewilderment, thinking "okay where is this going..." but basically you go through an entire zone in the past, with some of the best character interactions in the whole story, and one hell of a conclusion before you leave. It's very Kingdom Hearts-y, granted, but imo it just works here.
Probably one of the biggest Time Travel events I remember is the ones from Final Fantasy XI and the ones from Final Fantasy XIV. Let's not get into the fact that FFXI also has parallel universe travel. (Which isn't the same as shard travel in FFXIV.)
You definitely missed a good one. Gemini: Heros Reborn. The whole game is like that Titanfall mission. With the time travel, you can grab enemies from one time. And drop them in the other time.
Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time definitely has my favorite use of time travel in a platformer series! It could be said that the two instances of hopping through time portals, and doing things in each timeline, to effect the other and progress the story. Could be seen as kind of a prototype, for what would eventually be Rift Apart's dimension hopping aspect. Fair point, but it definitely serves as some of ACIT's best moments!
one encounter that never gets mentioned is in Fallout 2. theres a random encounter where you go back in time, to vault 13. you damage the water chip which is the reason the vault dweller has to leave vault 13 in the first game.
not nearly as worth mentioning, but there's a bit with time bs in shadows of loathing, too - not just, you're given access to a time gate ish door you cna move around to solve local issues, but also, you end up running into yourself, literally, and future you gives you stuff you're supposed to give up later, just because. like, the first one is meat (the currency - it's a weird game), and you'll eventually start running into copies of yourself and either giving the meat back or delaying it. there's a few more events, too, as well as a boostrap paradox of, you giving yourself a shipment of medical bandages or something like that, then you tell yourself they're in the basement of your uncle's shop. to get the box to give to yourself later, you go back to your uncle's shop, tell the handyman ish guy, he goes down and finds them, except he has no idea they were down there, so shouldn't have found them. normally, a paradox like this would be solved with 'it always worked out this way' except here, you're deliberately changing the timeline, so unless that's only true 'for you' it is a paradox. course, this game is mroe interested in humor than seriousness, so, no biggie.
Destiny's Coriddors of time should have Definitely been here. A 3 day community puzzle that ends with seeing your characters grave aswell as hearing your eulogy and then saving one of the universes most legendary characters
To be honest I'm kind of sad that the first life is strange game isn't on this list. There are many memorable time travel moments in the game but the two that really stick out to me (stop reading this comment if you haven't played the game and wish to because of spoilers by the way) is either 1 when Max picks up a picture of her and Chloe when they were younger and she ends up going back in time and saves Chloe's dad from being killed in a car accident which leads to an alternate reality where Chloe gets in a car accident instead, and the second one is the more mind boggling one where at the very end of the game if you choose to sacrifice Chloe and undo essentially everything you've done in the game to stop the storm from hitting Arcadia Bay. Like these are some mind blowing situations and like I said I'm really sad it's not on this list.

Time travel in Prince of Persia Warrior Within was mind-blowing. I am surprised you missed this gem
Love it when falcon records videos after day drinking
Chronotrigger had one of the best time travel elements. You can actively change the story while doing it
Actually, Time Travel doesn't technically work that way.
Chrono Trigger has the Back To The Future time travel paradox problem.
One example of this paradox is the Forest that Robo plants.
Singularity needs a remake, damn i loved that game!
"Who's actually her clone" had me dying 😂
“Power armor presidents” and falcons speaking French? This is a good one 🤣
TIME GAUNTLET!!!
*I really love how they let Falcon record VO while stoned out his gd mind 😂
I'm glad Singularity is getting some recognition lately. It was such a good game but with a bad release date. Also we need a Titanfall 3.
Love the intro 🤣🦅Titanfall 2 did it so well
Parkour-ing through different timeline is soooo satisfying in Titanfall 2. i mean the movement in the game itself is already fun, but the added time travel based obstacle really add to the fun
I have never heard someone butcher Jean Reno's name in quite that manner....well done Full Cone the Gyro
I was actually stunned as well. I could have never imagine someone pronouncing him like that. If this was a joke, Wow - well done, but i highly doubt it 😉
Gene Reno.. Lmao
Missing from the list:
* Chronotrigger - Take your pick. The entire game is about time travel.
*Command and Conquer - Red Alert 2 - Yuri's Revenge - Bonkers but fantastic game about changes to the past in a time machine.
* Day of the Tentacle - Time machine used to good effect.
Missing for good reason, I guess.
Those games are primarily BASED around the time travel gimmick.
These ones are not.
That's why I go with the mages almost all of the time.
DQ11 could have been explained a bit better, it's choosing to go back in time, lose all those memories with your friends, lose all those characterization changes to go back in time and save the one friend who sacrificed herself to save the whole group
You go back in time and your best friends are more cold to you, they haven't travelled the world with you as much, your enemy turned bestie hates you again, you're restarting a lot of your friendships to save one person.
Like if you could go back in time could you rizz your current partner? maybe maybe not
I also loved the conflict in the characters losing all their development. Particularly xxxx (no spoilers) who stepped up big time after the sacrifice. That was heartbreaking on both ends…
I love it when falcon does the french accent.
AC Unity is my favorite game in that series.
👍🏼
Radiant Historian did a great job with time travel
Really liked the dishonored one. Dishonored 2 was my first dishonored game and it just repeatedly blew my mind. One of my top 10 story games.
Loved the 2nd Bayonetta game where you traveled back to the 1st game and teamed up with that Bayonetta.
Unfortunately this isn't shown in the first Bayonetta.
Shame really, could have been a fun idea.
Falcon has one of the best SPY impressions I've heard.
Yup, I was so shocked by AC Unity's WW2 segment at that time, truly wholesome!
in bioshock infinite burial at sea episode 2, elizabeth comes back to columbia for a while. she takes an elevator and while the elevator is going down, she sees herself and booker talking to daisy (one of the missions of the main campaign).
i hope if there is a part 2 for this video, you consider this one too
Okay we need a full video of Falcon pretending to be French😂
Conduit 3 would be fascinating as a VR game, even if it falls short of living up to that ending lmao
This has been the best video in months. We need more videos like this. Like maybe moments in different games related by something, in this case that something being time travel.
Singularity and Time Shift were the best time-travel games I can remember.
Ah-hahaha! I totally lost it at Falcons fake french imitation 🤣🤣
Love especially in Dishonored 2 the fact that even if you aren't in the same time, you can "see" it using the glass part of the tool.
Life is Strange in episode 3 when Max time travels back in the middle of the game and I thought they'd completely change the story in the middle of the story
I might have gone nuts if Singularity wasn't mentioned. It is an interesting game that I feel is rarely talked about.
🤝
Titanfall 2 has my favorite example of integrating time travel in a level hands down
My favorite time travel use is in Bravely Second where it's revealed the reason Deneb was the generic shopkeeper in the two games was because they needed to keep meeting you as much as possible to save Tiz's life, and the easiest way for them to do that was to just be the generic shopkeeper in an RPG. (It helps that they're also the save point) So they just time traveled to the start of the first game and became the one person you would keep running into since boundaries on space-time don't apply to them.
Another great content from Gameranx. Never disappoints.
Titanfall 2 was seriously underrated! It would hold up well today!
Good energy in this video bro. Keep it up 🤙
Thanks
I don't know how Falcon's doing in his day to day, but the sharp increase of ridiculous jokes in his videos is just fantastic! 👏😂
Titanfall 2’s makes it one of the best FPS campaigns ever, if not the best.
EA deserves all the hate for not realizing what they had, and gamers deserve bad games for not supporting it.
Baguettes!! Eiffel Tower!! Aho ho ho!
honestly suprised there was no mention of The Legacy of Kain series or Timesplitters: Future Perfect
Have to say Titanfall 2 gauntlet was/is amazing. Wall running and having to constantly switch between times was just beautifully done.
You guys keep ignoring "The legacy of Kaun" games.
Like in Soul Reaver 2. You go to the future and to the past and even end up killing Yourself just to be revived as a Vampire by past Kain.
No mention of quantum break? The part where the sun and moon are hyperspeed rotating in the sky is incredible
Which, of course, is technically wrong.
Onimusha 3 was my jam back in the day! Always loved the series and when I heard about the story I knew I had to get it. That was the first game I ever pre-ordered.
Falcon trying not to laugh after his French impression had me dying 💀💀
Dragon quest 11 was amazing 😊😊😊😊
It's very Kingdom Hearts-y, granted, but imo it just works here.
the way you explained the event of 3rd birthday makes me wanna play the game to understand more xD
Wow. Was expecting dishonoured 2 to be number 1. The time travel part is so well thought out.
2:29 It's a pity that there isn't a sequel to Singularity.
It's been one of my favourite FPS ❤
Probably one of the biggest Time Travel events I remember is the ones from Final Fantasy XI and the ones from Final Fantasy XIV. Let's not get into the fact that FFXI also has parallel universe travel. (Which isn't the same as shard travel in FFXIV.)
You definitely missed a good one. Gemini: Heros Reborn. The whole game is like that Titanfall mission. With the time travel, you can grab enemies from one time. And drop them in the other time.
Probably why it's not on the list.
It uses time travel as the whole game gimmick, like Chrono Trigger.
I really was expecting ACIT in this video, this episode was litteraly about time traveling and affecting the timeline ! What a shame
one encounter that never gets mentioned is in Fallout 2. theres a random encounter where you go back in time, to vault 13. you damage the water chip which is the reason the vault dweller has to leave vault 13 in the first game.
not nearly as worth mentioning, but there's a bit with time bs in shadows of loathing, too - not just, you're given access to a time gate ish door you cna move around to solve local issues, but also, you end up running into yourself, literally, and future you gives you stuff you're supposed to give up later, just because. like, the first one is meat (the currency - it's a weird game), and you'll eventually start running into copies of yourself and either giving the meat back or delaying it.
there's a few more events, too, as well as a boostrap paradox of, you giving yourself a shipment of medical bandages or something like that, then you tell yourself they're in the basement of your uncle's shop. to get the box to give to yourself later, you go back to your uncle's shop, tell the handyman ish guy, he goes down and finds them, except he has no idea they were down there, so shouldn't have found them.
normally, a paradox like this would be solved with 'it always worked out this way' except here, you're deliberately changing the timeline, so unless that's only true 'for you' it is a paradox.
course, this game is mroe interested in humor than seriousness, so, no biggie.
Destiny's Coriddors of time should have Definitely been here. A 3 day community puzzle that ends with seeing your characters grave aswell as hearing your eulogy and then saving one of the universes most legendary characters
Nothing about destiny should ever even be near a list like this.
@@FlashesSoccer011Typical hater...
@juanpablobecerra2779 no, I'm just not delusional. I have pve 8K hours in that game. It's not a good game, and it hasn't been for a long time.
1:17 That French accent, mmmmmh , love it 😂
quantum break is an awesome game made by remedy, has a great story thats entirely based on time travel!
Falcon Def ate an edible prior to this recording....that whole Eiffel Tower bit sold me LMAO
Morning Gameranx! Love your content❤
Morning!
Oh yeah? I time traveled from 1989 to 2023. It took me 34 years but I made it. Time travel is real!!!
