How tf did battle passes & loot boxes not make the list? Or non-communicating devs? Or server lag? Or physical copy games being the same price as digital copy? Like 4 out of your 10 was "remakes should be better, not worse."
The worst thing about the Fallout4 dialog wasn't mechanical, it was the fact that the writers apparently got bored and decided to prank the players. There are so many dialog lines that take an unexpected turn that changes the meaning. Players sometimes blame this on the simplified dialog system, but there was no technical reason they had to write the player's dialog in that surprising gotcha style. I guess they did that as a joke, but the player is the butt of the joke.
honestly many games with dialogue options do that the option you are given is x, and then what the character actually says is "1" because it is so vastly different than the option you got to pick it aint even a letter no more.
Batman: Return to Arkham should definitely be a considered. The Arkham series looked amazing from the beginning and didn't need a remaster, but somehow they managed to downgrade the graphics in the remastered collection
Thank you! I seemed to recall it looked way better when I had them on PS3, especially Arkham City. It's awful, I gave up trying to play it again. Thought maybe my memory was bad.
wanna say Far Cry also downgraded in the healing animations, FC2 and FC3, maybe some of 4 were pretty unique and brutal. Then they just kept reusing the animations in later games. Typical Ubisoft i guess
A *lot* of these games show just how *stubborn* western developers are in *refusing* to learn from the mistake of prioritizing graphics over gameplay, and thus just keep *repeating* it.
Far Cry 1's Classic remaster for consoles suffered numerous downgrades due to the switch from the CryEngine to the Dunia engine (used by Ubisoft for FC 2 onwards), including the removal of physics effects from scenery objects (such as rolling barrels) the nerfing of the stealth mechanics, allowing enemies to see you through dense foliage halfway across the map, and the limitation of vehicle turret rotation angle.
There is a downgrade that also bugged me in watch dogs legion, in watch dogs 2 you could listen to music while on foot, but for some dumb reason they decided to remove it from watch dogs legion
this isn't quite a downgrade but I'll never shut up about how an ammo system was introduced in mass effect 2 and 3. Going from infinite ammo with a cooldown to basic ammo sucked. I remember reading the manual about the heat sinks and thinking it was an optional thing like "hey cool my gun has overheated I can either wait for it to cool down or use a heat sink". In universe it makes no sense to go from guns that produce their own ammo to being limited by how many heat sinks you have to be able to fire a gun
Thanks Falcon! I could never really figure out why role playing felt so off in Fallout 4 until you put it into words. Let's hope Bethesda has learned their lesson for Starfield.
Going from BF1 and BF5 to BF2042 is like changing to a totally new game, new title, new dev team, its so crazy. If i remember correctly everyone on DICE are new, the old devs are either doing their own games or joined a new company. Its genuinely sad because i use to see Battlefield as a giant of a game, so unique. The features BF5 had were great and really made me think "This is gonna be so cool to see in newer games" but then they removed all of it... I know money affects how devs make their games nowadays but dont better games usually make more money, especially if they add exactly what their customers want?
Battlefield V might as well downgraded their scopes from Battlefield 1. They treated it as if they made physically NO advancement in scope technology from ww1 to ww2 In BF1 it made sense, but to see the same scopes in BFV was a kick in the shins
As contentious as AI is, one area where it would ABSOLUTELY help is QA! Defining what a software BUG in a game, and recognizing that, would streamline the process IMMENSELY. The scripting shouldn’t be all that difficult to define, actually. As always, it’s the NUTS & BOLTS of that software that would really determine its success, but I think it would help with game development IMMENSELY.
One downgrade that really springs to mind for me is The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D. There are plenty of problems with this remake I could bring up. The boss fights were butchered, The notebook held your hand on a scale that puts Fi to shame, and for some asinine reason the game no longer saved whenever you reset the countdown. But what stuck out the most for me, was how this remake ruined Great Bay the moment I tried swimming as Zora Link. They literally took something that was a ton of fun in the original and turned it into a miserable slog that literally nobody asked for. Don’t even get me started on the ice arrows!
Far Cry series was a downgrade after 3 in general... Overwatch 2...dont forget it was supposed to be PvE..that was the whole sellingpoint of it being a "sequel"..and it got scrapped last minute Am I the only one that remembers Crysis: Warhead? I actually prefered it over original Crysis
@Emma_madison excuse me , WRONG , every other rockstar game is the best of all time , sure they got somethings wrong but don't discriminate all their production for it
I got to hand it to mods to give us back the more expansive version of the dialogue system in Fallout 4 to be honest. It actually makes the game more immersive than just the simplified style seen in the vanilla game
In regards to the GTA remasters: to me, a remaster would have been use the game engine of GTA 5, build all new models for scenery and characters at modern resolutions, create 2k or 4k textures, use the lighting and effects of the modern engine, but then use the script and dialogue of the original. Same story, same quests, same characters but completely new under the hood. The remake they released looked like they just slapped a new (not very good) paint job on something trying to hide its age.
Don't think I've ever been as disappointed by a game as I was by this, was looking forward to getting into an upgraded San Andreas but it was like they just made it brighter! Absolutely horse shit
Love the content as usual! Was wondering if a "Top 10 Characters we Hated... At First" video has been made. As in characters people at first disliked but after a while they grew on them. :3
You also have to remember that far cry was originally a powerful PC release, like crysis. The breaking of the bushes was met with nice scenery in a crazy beautiful game that wouldn’t work on consoles at the time and the easiest way to downgrade them was change textures and colors. The environmental changes were embedded in code and couldn’t be modified as easily
Dying Light 2 shot and missed with the nighttimes, but they genuinely felt bad and it's why we got the Good Night, Good Luck update, they actually cared to make a change that big and I'm happy. I hope the 3rd one is better too tho
Actually the reason why watch dogs was downgraded was because Ubisoft was not given dev kits so made the game on a high end pc and showed it off to the public only for the ps4 and Xbox One specs to be revealed and Ubisoft downgraded a lot of shit just so it could run properly. Ubisoft didn’t necessarily lie they just our hopes up and realized they couldn’t achieve that and never addressed it until like much after the game release.
The next time you guys do a "10 game mechanics we all hate in video games" I'd like to reccomend the driving from tail/follow missions. I was doing a mission for jabroni where I had to follow a prisoner transport and every car lost their sense of direction when I drove by. Speeding up and stopping in the intersection, turning into me, driving slow, trash trucks pulling out of driveways when I get near. It's obvious and annoying that they're trying to slow you down

there is one you missed which kinda disappointed me, the removal of Origin stories from Dragon Age 2. Dragon Age Origins had a lot of different origin stories and each are unique and will effect some interactions and dialogues depending on your origin, Inquisition brought back an origin selection but its not on the same level as origins.
The Super Mario question is easily answered with "Nintendo frequently makes inexplicably baffling and confusingly stupid decisions." They're also _notoriously_ IP crazy - enough to make *_Disney_* seem downright reasonable.
The bonus... I agree, Falcon. The fact is, unrealistic expectations (as in trailers) lead to disappointment. That leads to fury. People doing it anyway are rightly seen as money-grubbing jerks seeking those pre-sales grift dollars (or similar currencies). Cortana had it right... *Cortana:* Don't make a girl a promise you know you can't keep.
Your videos feel more like rants now. Not that it's a bad thing. I think it would be pretty cool to have a rant based category on the channel. It's really fun to watch your passion bleed into your craft.
Crysis > far cry. both series only went downhill as the sequels piled on, but the first crisis is still a timeless masterpiece, while the second far cry was just another above average game.
I truely think that, when they show off trailers for games, they do not include game play footage for exactly the "Watch Dogs" reason if it doesn't look like it in the end. Rainbow Six Siege also had a gameplay trailer that didn't look like the end result either. I feel like this is really deceptive and borderline criminal what they do sometimes. If any other product you buy isn't what they advertised, you'd flip your shit and everyone would want a refund, but for games to show off gameplay that doesn't look like advertised it's ok? Like WTF? I understand that thinks can change in development, but if you have it look this good (in the case of Watch Dogs) then either release it how you showed it or don't show it like that at all. It's the No Man Sky principal all over again. If you can't keep what you say or show, then don't make those claims at all. It becomes more and more about "How much money can we swindle out of people" instead of delivering the quality you showed and we all expect to get. It's just something that makes my blood boil sometimes. I get it's hard to make games and it costs a lot, but why be deceptive and push costumers out for a one time pay off instead of pulling them in with quality and keeping them loyal for more of your games in the long run? It's stupid. It's also a reason, I don't purchase any AAA games anymore. It's not worth it. I'd rather buy a couple indie titles for the price of one AAA game that at least has love and care behind it, instead of a cash grab AAA paper weight. I also sadly know that I most likely shout into the void with this, but people need to wake the fuck up buying overpriced, under delivering games from companies that can't seem to keep their promises or rather their invisioning of the games they show off with gameplay footage.
No, the definitive edition does not look better than the older games. The older games used to look like a satirical cartoon or a comic book. The new games look like somebody made the world out of legos and put action figures in there. The art style on the defective edition is absolutely atrocious compared to the classics.
Rainbow Six Siege was also a offender of visual and gameplay downgrade. I remember watching the "Gameplay" during E3 and they showed the attack team dropping down on the roof of the house and starting their setup for breach. They had developers pretending to play and chat in game about their plan of attack. Of course the helicopter entry was nowhere to be found once released. It visually looked amazing in the "Demo" compared to it's final release state which was washed, like they abandoned all plans and just dropped a product off. Fortunately they were somehow able to bounce back. But made the same mistake with Watchdog.
I knew Watch Dogs would be in this video. Dying Light 2 is an example of how difficulty customization needs to become mainstream IMO. Let people decide how challenging they want their games to be. Heck, it even gives them more replayability value
DUDE YOURE THE FIRST PERSON TO MENTION BREAKBLE TREES! I remember complaining that the trees didn't bend anymore and just kind of exploded. Good to know I'm not crazy.
Talking about 10. The change we NEED in AAA games should be about interactivity and not graphics anymore. Games are good looking enough, but we need water simulation, enviromental damage, animation details, Zelda-like physics simulation and that kind of stuff but overall IS USING THAT STUFF IN THE GAMEPLAY LOOP. Rainbiw Six Siege wouldn;t be the same without the interactivity on the levels and the evolution they need now is upgrade that stuff up
Yes! The Fallout New Vegas dialogue system was so good and then FO4 just shit on everything good Obsidian did. Same with the faction system FNV did so well.
I ended up playing the first Dying Light after hearing so many good things about it from you on this here channel actually, and absolutely adore the game, even if after more than two years I’m still hardly brave enough to go out too much in the night myself ha ha! I reckon I’ll probably still enjoy the next game because I do like the general movement and fighting mechanics of the games, and have heard the factions system in the second game is very engaging, but it really is something of a shame that they messed up so badly on it, especially with how compelling the terrifying night time mechanics were in the first game. I sure hope it’s not spoilt things too much to prevent there from being a third instalment in the series, as I reckon it would sure give the developers a good chance to make right on the shortcomings of the second game, and the first game sure had some magic to it so it did! Would love for them to have the opportunity to build on that going forward.
they actually updated the night time in the second game so volatiles and such are very good right now. in fact i would say dying light 2 is an upgrade, only thing i like more is the story or characters in dying light 1
Ac3 remastered. The graphics in cutscenes look significantly worse than the original and particularly Haytham's character model. All they did is make it brighter and took away the moody atmosphere of the original. Imo one of the worst remasters ever.
I’m still surprised no one ever bothered to have a class action lawsuit on blizzard for taking out Overwatch 1 for 2 Yeah I know they have the right to take down their servers when they want (another reason I’ll never buy an online only game) but forcefully taking away the game I bought for 60 bucks and giving me trash back should be a crime
I Hate when Nintendo becomes arrogant. Look I know people are into Mario, Wario ware, cuphead and all but it takes seriously less work than say Witcher, Red Dead and Assassins Creed games. Even linear Games take a lot of work. Why the hell is it necessary for every small Nintendo game to be $70. It's just 5 hours of gameplay. What the hell man.
It also never came to PC...
For some reason.
Thank you! I seemed to recall it looked way better when I had them on PS3, especially Arkham City. It's awful, I gave up trying to play it again. Thought maybe my memory was bad.
There have been a number of remasters that have ruined a games art style/vibe by making unnecessary changes like that. Definitely unfortunate.
Actually remastered looks like a current gen game if you tweak the brightness a bit turning it down.
wanna say Far Cry also downgraded in the healing animations, FC2 and FC3, maybe some of 4 were pretty unique and brutal.
9:35 "There is only so much make up you can put on a pig"
I'm dead 💀
this isn't quite a downgrade but I'll never shut up about how an ammo system was introduced in mass effect 2 and 3.
They treated it as if they made physically NO advancement in scope technology from ww1 to ww2
In BF1 it made sense, but to see the same scopes in BFV was a kick in the shins
As contentious as AI is, one area where it would ABSOLUTELY help is QA! Defining what a software BUG in a game, and recognizing that, would streamline the process IMMENSELY. The scripting shouldn’t be all that difficult to define, actually. As always, it’s the NUTS & BOLTS of that software that would really determine its success, but I think it would help with game development IMMENSELY.
It would really shake the foundations of game development from the GROUND UP.
I loved watch dogs 1 but I do remember being highly disappointed in the first few hours that it did not even seem close to what they promised.
FC6 was so depressing, due to how “goofy” it was. FC2, FC3, & FC5 were masterpieces.
Not a fan of FC4, huh?
@@elastichedgehog6339 In between for me. 4 & Primal were both really good, but not masterpieces IMHO haha
You forgot Killzone PS3 E3 Demo way back in the days. They said it was in game until it released and we found out it was pre rendered just for E3
Still the daddy of all bull trailers, I agree. The actual game was stunning for its time though, it's just that the bar was set impossibly high.
I love Gammeranx so much I usually end up watching their videos for hours and forget to actually play the game i loaded up 😂
One downgrade that really springs to mind for me is The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D.
Overwatch 2...dont forget it was supposed to be PvE..that was the whole sellingpoint of it being a "sequel"..and it got scrapped last minute
Am I the only one that remembers Crysis: Warhead? I actually prefered it over original Crysis
Dying light hit hard, the night in DL1 gave me chills. In a lot of runs I would end up with my heart racing, being chased by 3 volatiles
Funny you said that about destiny 1. When D2 did exactly that. That game used to have a much different campaign.
You can do a full video on Ubisoft downgrades they lie a lot
GTA remakes were just done wrong 😞.
I remember when insomniac downgraded Peter's face in the Spider-man PS5 remaster.
New Vegas's follow up could never live up to the hype, without Obsidian
I still can’t get over how badly Grove Street Games messed up GTA
The next time you guys do a "10 game mechanics we all hate in video games" I'd like to reccomend the driving from tail/follow missions. I was doing a mission for jabroni where I had to follow a prisoner transport and every car lost their sense of direction when I drove by. Speeding up and stopping in the intersection, turning into me, driving slow, trash trucks pulling out of driveways when I get near. It's obvious and annoying that they're trying to slow you down
Idk why it took me so long to actually subscribe. Best overall gaming channel on TH-cam!
i was incredibly surprised that the destructive environment of battlefield 4 was completely skipped over
gta definitive edition, battlefield 2042 and overwatch 2, 3 games that became victims to the corruption of the aaa gaming industry
I hate how I can’t _”Catch ‘em all”_ anymore 😡😡😡
Love the video like always. Always my go to channel. Maybe 10 great games with the worst controls?
Btw. you could not only shoot those tree branches off individually, they even regrow over time. Which makes it a even more fantastic detail.
I recently tried - and got a refund for - a game whose name I can't even bother to remember that had inverted z-axis for no goddamn reason without an option to change it. That wasn't the only problem but it was _glaring._ I was like, dude, it's not 1998, get your shit together.
Remember physics? Yeah those could have been really cool to see evolve.
Gosh damn you guys are hitting 7 million y'all really made gaming your passion I'm glad you guys been making video for so long and at such a consistent rate
I still remember playing the whole trilogy of crysis within 2 days 😅 just cause there were loop holes everywhere in the crysis 2,3 and once you get a hang of it, its actually quite easy
Another solid list. Keep up the amazing work Gameranx!
Thanks
@@gameranxTV such a deep interaction. Go hate on FarCry some more.
everyone who loved playing overwatch growing up heartbroken at where the game is now, was so much love for the community before it felt diff than cod or apex or any other shooter it was like a ow family fr. then Jeff left and it all went to shit. finally moving forward with the story we love but its behind a paywall like everything else, sad asf fr, used to be such a player friendly game
Could you guys do a "15 or 25 must have titles for a new PC gamer" ?
Or like "15 must have games in your steam library for new PC gamers"
Pleaseeeeeeee gameranx♡♡♡
I'd rather play the original PS2 versions of the GTA trilogy than touch the horrendous 'Definitive' versions.
You cant talk about downgrades without bring up that Watchdogs trailer. It was a great game but that trailer just flat out lied to us
I love Crysis 2 way more than Crysis 1.
But Arkham Asylum is also my favorite Arkham game. I spot a trend…
Every FIFA game past 2019 is a downgrade too.
Games of 10 years ago looked better for around that time than the current ones
Falcon you make me and my crews work day so much easier getting to listen to your videogame content keeper coming broski
You guys should bring back "The deleted trailer" series. That was very funny especially with the voice and obvious one liners
Most developers: -'downgrade game to run well on consoles'
CD Project Red: -"What is console?"
-and lately "YOLO! PC master race for life! 'adds graphic options that 99.9% players won't be able to turn on'"
there is one you missed which kinda disappointed me, the removal of Origin stories from Dragon Age 2.
Still remember my first night in Dying Light, fucking terrifying, pitch black.
First time I've been this early! Thank you for our daily dose of Gameranx. You continue to surprise me with how many ideas you have!
Rainbiw Six Siege wouldn;t be the same without the interactivity on the levels and the evolution they need now is upgrade that stuff up
Bought Crysis 2, the A.I was so bad with stop start movement glitches, I stopped playing it about 10 hours in ..
The enemy intelligence was bad like a silly CS bot, and the enemies randomly just stood still and ignored you
Yes! The Fallout New Vegas dialogue system was so good and then FO4 just shit on everything good Obsidian did. Same with the faction system FNV did so well.
It would be cool if Falcon made a video that just wasn't top 10s, Jake really carries this channel hard
If Naughty Dog cared they'd give me Jak & Dexter 😭
Would love for them to have the opportunity to build on that going forward.
they actually updated the night time in the second game so volatiles and such are very good right now. in fact i would say dying light 2 is an upgrade, only thing i like more is the story or characters in dying light 1
it should be illegal to show the ratless bbq and never show the post-rattified bbq
11:15 It's Odyssey where you can play as Mario Dinosaur, not Galaxy. Great video though!
Lying on your back when camping in Battlefield 5 is AMAZING! I miss that in all others FPS shooters.
Ac3 remastered. The graphics in cutscenes look significantly worse than the original and particularly Haytham's character model. All they did is make it brighter and took away the moody atmosphere of the original. Imo one of the worst remasters ever.
I’m still surprised no one ever bothered to have a class action lawsuit on blizzard for taking out Overwatch 1 for 2
Yeah I know they have the right to take down their servers when they want (another reason I’ll never buy an online only game) but forcefully taking away the game I bought for 60 bucks and giving me trash back should be a crime
Can it not be just for fun like Sons of the Forest for like $30 only. Don't get pissed please people. Just saying. 👍👍
Yooooooo lotta love to Falcon & Gameranx. Armoredcore going to be FIREEEEE
