transferring soon to a 4 year school from community college. Currently studying graphic design, but UX really looks more interesting to me. Love the tips and info in these videos.
I’ve always understood UI as just a facet of UX. User Experience to me, is an umbrella term that covers a few main pillars: Research, Architecture, and Interface. A UX Designer should understand each of these facets and be able to execute on them to the best of their abilities. Then I would lean on specialists to perform deeper dives into the three specific pillars. UX Researchers for more behavioral sciences, architects with more back end and system creation experience, and UI designers for strong visual principal backgrounds.
great job on explaining the difference and its so helpful to hear how a product designer doesnt have to know much about coding! Right now im stuck between some bootcamps and some other routes to build a portfolio... i dont really know what to do ..
Interaction is how you interact with a product. Comment the video, share, like, donate is interactions, time stamp etc. TH-cam can add mark for others function or tag for others. So you can draw with marker on the video and tag different parts of it. Later someone can access those markups and tags in the added features. This creates new Interface UI. And creates new experience UX So the interaction is the foundation of any design. IxD comes first and second comes Ui with Ux. Last stage is visual design
Im setting up a wordpress theme. And i feel your right. You don't have to be relly good at coding to accomplish that task. Because wordpress has their own way of doing things. If your dealing with lets say React, you have to be really good at coding. :)
Hi there!!! Good video, but what I would really like to see, is the real work that a UX or UI designer does, like, real hands-on, would that be possible to have a better 'view' of the actual work? Meaning, there's so many definitions and words, but no real image in my mind of the real thing! Do we need coding? If I'm very creative, thoughtful, and interested in human psychology is that enough or I need maths or 'horrible coding'!;))? A video of an immersed workday, on a platform or of your portfolio explained, would be amazing!! Thanks again for your involvement!! S.
Thankyou so much for these videos I am a fashion designer n you are right we didn't get paid according to the amount of work we put in and these days I am so frustrated because of covid my company is cutting out salary I don't even I have the job or not but goin through your videos I have really developed interest in product design and really wanna learn different skills
This video was clear and gave me a lot of insight of what kind of designers there are! I’ve watched a lot of videos of what each designer does however they are long winded, don’t provide a ton of information, and aren’t objective about the roles. Your objectivity and clarity was amazing!
Everyting is a remix! This is akin to Design Thinking now being termed Human Centered Design. Fields grow, evolve, and sometimes totally reinvents themselves.
I have a degree in business management, but i always interested in becoming a web designer, i can use the computer very well, could some tell me where can i start my journey through becoming a professional website designer 🙏🙏
Im in a 4 year and want to go down this path, I'm a psychology major but dont know whats the best major to be for this career, I know nothing fits it fully yet so I'll have to do a lot of side work such as the things listed that make a good product designer!
Now you probably have questions like what is uiux Designer then? Because they do the same job as product designer but it's not the case product designers are think about entire product lioe end to end cycle they also study about the market where they launch thier product and sometimes they also study the expected revenue model i telling this here because in indian start-ups they give you more salary for this role so don't just say you are product designer with 2 years of design experience because they will kick your ass if you're not able to fulfill there expectations 😭. Its ok don't cry you are still a good designer
Product design is actually industrial design... I'm an industrial designer (10 years) who now does UX and UI as well. Traditionally for years before UX design was a field in its own, a product designer was a known as an industrial designer. UX is actually a field that was derived as a subset of industrial design. Today the term product designer has been coined with a UX designer who also does the visual/ui design; but historically a product designer meant you're an industrial designer because industrial are the one's who really design a product from beginning to end, but today they work mainly on physical products
@@ダチアヨ what are you talking about? Do you know how to read? I have been a professional industrial designer for over 10 years and I also do UX/Ui, do you even know what industrial design is? Industrial design was called product design because we design physical products, there is a organization called IDSA go look it up. Industrial designers make physical products and we created the concept of doing user testing to verify that our designs actually worked. You clearly don't know what UX design is because you think it's only wire frames. UX involves much more like user testing and that is part of industrial design and taught in industrial design schools. If you didn't go to industrial design School how the hell do you know? Try reading about the history of ux. If you Google are industrial designers product designers and do they do user testing, see what the answer says answer. If you knew anything about industrial design youd know that It's more than just drawing cool sketches. We have to know manufacturing processes, and CAD and we have to make physical prototypes and test those with users. We have to understand visual design anytime a physical product has an interface. Not one thing you said was correct nor do you understand the various fields of design or what is taught in those curriculums. Maybe instead of talking out of your ass do a little research.
Could you explain what an experience designer does? I see that title quite often here in Chicago and I just want to know the difference between experience and product designer!
for me product design was always showed as a person who designs products... like a new design for a table or a bed, a lamp or a fridge... basicaly everything that is an "object" and the user can interact with. this thing of UX, UI, whatever really confuses me... is a UX designer like a person like i described?
A really great exercise is taking an app or website that you use regularly and start asking questions about it. What’s frustrating about using it? Is there any info you’d make more available? How does it compare to similar apps? What do you love about it? etc. How would you address those questions? Figure out the ideal way you’d get to a certain screen or outcome. If you want to start playing around with software I highly recommend Figma because it’s free and browser based (they have a desktop app for mac, but it works fine online too) and has pretty much everything you need for UX and web design. Try recreating designs from apps, web, pinterest, wherever (but don’t post those recreations online or turn them in for a portfolio or class without giving credit to the original and highlighting the changes you made. it’s great to learn technique by copying, but you should never take credit for concepts that you didn’t come up with). Good luck! The best way to see if you like it is to just dive in
@@hannahs3836That's great advice. Also, there are so many books that can get you in the design mindset. "Design of Everyday Things" is a classic book. Hannah S You’re absolutely right! I've been in web design for a long time, and I have people tell me how frustrated they are with web sites they use. They want me to write these companies to tell them what is not working correctly. 😆
Love your videos! Can you make a video talking about how you advance your career as a UX designer? I think this will be very helpful to someone looking into this career path.
All the research and ideation behind the concept of a product/service (apps, website etc) is a job for a UX designer. They design the experience. However, the one who brings ideas to life by creating the interface (for example look and feel of the app, designing the elements and colors etc, motions included) is what a UI designer does. They don't have to know coding but it definitely helps to communicate with those who do
this is what blows my mind, we should know a lot of things aaaand CODES...how? WTF? Codes are my mainly problems. Most of companies require this knowledges from you :(((((
Thank you so much! That makes a whole lotta sense now! I'm a Motion Designer by trade and have been looking into UI cos of sci-fi films haha! UI designs tickle my fancy! UX seems like you need to know that too but we'll see. Looking into a new path next year! Does what I do translate well into UI/UX?
hmmm i kind of disagree though, cuz to me product design is really just designing products like furniture, home appliances, even cars etc. Not so much of the user interface or experience part. At least the PD degrees for Bachelors and Masters in many countries focus on designing physical objects first, then we consider if there is gonna be an app that pairs along with it
Do u think its important to learn the graphics design area first like learning PS, Illustrator etc then learn the UX part? Can one survive in UX UI team if he for example, is very analytical but can not make a visually appealing app? TY.
If most jobs want both UX+UI should I learn a full blown course of UX and a separate one of UI or just UX if I am already a graphic designer and know the basics of UI?
I’m currently taking the Google UX Design Certification through Coursera. At the end of the cert. you are able to connect with potential employers and you create a portfolio
they will have to work with the ui designer, some are even both a ui and i’d designer. if you don’t want to do a lot of visual aspects you might not have to do a *ton* but but it will still be useful.

Jesus Christ it sounds like ux or product design is starting to have to know every single thing.
Very well breakdown @chunbuns these terms UI, UX, Visual, Product design do in these profiles.
I was looking for a good definition of interaction design but you mostly covered UI vs UC which is well covered. Please consider a follow up video.
And creates new experience UX
So the interaction is the foundation of any design. IxD comes first and second comes Ui with Ux. Last stage is visual design
Super helpful! There is so much overlap.

"wireframes, mockups and prototyping" all this time I thought these were the same
