  • I ride the Indian Challenger for the first time in an attempt to see if a baseline Indian Challenger would be better than a baseline Harley Davidson Road Glide.

    I bought the Goldwing DCT and its a very solid platform. I'd love to have a Twin bagger but having recently ridden both the Indian challenger and the cheiftain and then ridden the Harley Street glide special and the Road king Indian are 2 for 2 over the Harleys. Cheaper yet better built and more features as standard on both indians. It's no longer even a contest. The only reason anyone buys Harleys is ignorance or brand loyalty. No ones going to prefer to have LEDs in the headlights only when indian has them in brakes and indicators too. No one is going to want a shock that gives less than half the travel of the Fox shock on the back of the challenger. No one wants to buy a CVO in order to get bags that lock on the Electronic key. Therefore people either dont know how much more you get or just stick with Harley cause its all they know. Harley bangs on about dealers everywhere but they are closing those dealers and modern bikes shouldn't need somone who can fix it in every town if they have decent reliablity. If you ride a Harley and are not locked in to a brand then try the Indian they're just better.

      @jag1963, that’s a solid response. I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. I think you hit the nail on the head when you said brand loyalty. Harley has done a tremendous job with the branding of their motorcycles. So much so, it’s become America’s motorcycle. I too agree, you get so much more out the box with Indian. However, I sometimes still find myself googled eyed about the looks of the Road Glide and Street Glide. Yet, I continue ride ride my BMW with pride with anyone who’ll ride with me.
      Thanks again for your thoughtful response. Stay up and ride carefully!

      @Ronald, thanks for the comment. This is not my first time hearing that comment. I’m curious your perspective on why you think there’s less issues with Indian vs. Harley?

    As a BMW owner of several different bikes, owned a 2016 R1200RT, a 2018 R1200GS, now a 2022 R1250R also owned a F800GT 2013, just bought an Indian Challenger Darkhorse last weekend. I am 6’3” tall with a 33’5 inseam. Bought the Indian over a Harley RG ST because a few things, but mainly feature benefits that it has vs. the Glide. Plus Harley has that goofy friggin Snorkle on the right side on that machine. I opted for the Extended Reach Seat which helps the comfort level versus the stock seat. The Harley doesn’t match up to the Challenger. I was thinking about getting a K1600GA, but the sound of the V-twin is what made me try the American bike.

      @thebikerbug2020, Great feedback especially since you’ve owned BMW’s.
      I have yet to try the new RG, but definitely want to compare it. I had an 09 RG and things have seriously changed since.
      I’m not getting rid of my BMW, but surely will consider adding something else to my stable I’m the future. Will it be a RG OR Challenger, I don’t yet know.
      Again, thank you for the great feedback!

    Challenger all day more bang for the$ plus water cooled last longer

    • @1titemoto
      @1titemoto  ปีที่แล้ว

      You surely get more bang for the buck with the challenger. That’s one of the biggest benefits. Not to use puns, but here I go… the “challenge” is “r” enough HD riders willing to forgo their brand for the bang!
      They have a strong following!

      @@1titemoto In the last 20 years of my touring life. I've covered several hundred thousand miles. From 2000 to 2010. On HDs. They stranded me all over the country. Switched to Goldwings in 2011. Haven't had a single problem but a couple of fork seals. Haven't even thought about being stranded in years. My friend got a Challenger when it came out. It has been rock solid for over 50k miles. Better motor, better suspension. More reliable! It is the only bike I would consider, other than a Goldwing. Honda blows them both away. IMO!

    If you're even a little objective, it's easy to see the Indian is Superior at a better price.

    I rode a 2023 Road Glide ST and 2023 Challenger DH today. I like the looks of the Road Glide better, liked everything else better on the Challenger. And the Challenger $3k less OTD. With the announcement of the new CVO Street Glide and Road Glide today I'm going to wait until June 7th to see what the pricing looks like on those before I decide.

    Road glide limited owner here. I like the new pursuit indian came out with. I think it comes down to preference and dealership network. There is no indian dealer in my city but there is a HD. Love my glide

    • @1titemoto
      @1titemoto  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @harryhowell5644, I definitely about it being a preference thing. Harley has a huge following and very large infrastructure setup. Easier to find dealers within proximity. Thanks for your thoughts!

    I own a K1600B. I really want to ride a challenger and possibly own one but like you i wouldn't trade my bmw for it. The K1600B is an excellent machine

    I've had Harleys for 20 years with the last being a Street Glide, and I spent a ton of time researching fixed fairing bikes. I ultimately decided on a Wing DCT Tour, and it's an absolutely incredible bike. Indian Pursuit and K1600GA were close second. Road Glide Ltd was last of the bunch. Harley was most expensive with the least power and features by a long shot.

    • @1titemoto
      @1titemoto  ปีที่แล้ว

      @markman7, Ohhhh - that’s a big boy right there! And, it has reverse. Got to love that! Do they allow test rides on those beauties?

    • @jag1963
      @jag1963 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's it right there. If you want to pay the most money for the least features and power go for the Harley. Sad but true.

    I brought a brand new Indian Chieftain Limited and it was the worse bike I’ve ever owned. The bike went into limp mode at 2,000 miles. It wouldn’t go above 30 mph. Also, I was in a state where I was unfamiliar. I thought Indian/Polaris would aid me since the bike was under warranty, but they didn’t. I had to have the bike towed to the dealer I brought it from . After sending it to two different dealers, they told me that the bike had software issues. And they had to build a new software for it. I asked how long would that take, and they said they don’t know. I asked could they just replace the bike. And Polaris/Indian said that they couldn’t replace it. So they expected me to pay for a bike I couldn’t ride. The bike couldn’t be repaired or replaced yet, they expected me to pay for it. I traded that piece of junk for a new Harley Davidson Road Glide Special. The HD dealers are easy to find and they honor their warranty. Be careful with Polaris/ Indian. The bikes and the company are trash.

      @bigmanchris8693, apologies for the delayed response. I appreciate your honest assessment of your experience, and I too would be absolutely outraged if this happen to me.
      What I’ve found in my experience of owning machines, both motorcycles and cars, theirs always a few lemons in the batch, and I always pray not to end up with a lemon. None of us want that experience.
      While I’m sure there are many folks out there who will disagree that the motos and the company are trash, I think we are all in agreement that everyone should do their due diligence when purchasing a motorcycle from anywhere!
      Again, I appreciate you sharing your experience.

    Harley is the only way to go. Purchased an Indian in 2015 and traded it in a year later. Dealer network and aftermarket is extremely poor for Indian.

    • @1titemoto
      @1titemoto  ปีที่แล้ว

      @Ricky, thanks for the comment. Harley Davidson has surely set the standard for having a large infrastructure, and it establishing itself as America’s motorcycle, their following has surely garnered support from third party manufacturers.
      Someone told me that Harley’s higher prices are the reason they can have such a large infrastructure of dealer locations. I haven’t personally researched this, but if you can pay to play, than why not!💪🏾
