    After watching countless (NO exaggeration, COUNTLESS) financial management and budget videos, some of which are so extra, this is probably one of THE most practical and simple methods I've seen! No frills, thank you for posting! 😊

    I love hearing about different budgeting systems people come up with!
    Here's mine: As soon as I get my paycheck I put away a fixed amount for savings (emergency fund, sinking fund, other short term goals) and a fixed amount for bills and other fixed expenses. Then I divide the rest of the money into four weeks by which I get a weekly spending limit: half of it for groceries and half of it for whatever. If I have some money left over from the week, it gets added to the next week's limit. And if I end up having some left over money at the end of the month, it goes to savings. And if I'm having some bigger purchases such as a new phone or furniture, I pay for it out of my sinking fund.

      Wow, that's actually the first time I've seen advice to split fixed amounts per week. That's really smart. I'm so glad I came by your comment! I love money and saving and budgeting. 😅

      Do you take a certain % of your income for savings? I try to take 25% for savings but some months it’s about 20%. I’m learning to be a minimalist.

    I do weekly budgeting with a calendar and a scratch sheet of paper. All our bills are on the calendar and then I just do the math for that week, it's simple and it works for us.

    I use an Excel file on Google Drive so I can access it on my phone or laptop and I list my bills in this sheet with the following column headings: name, APR, Total Amount owed, monthly amount, due date (day of month), autopay (y/n), logins (to check online), notes (indicate which bank acct is used), bill cycle (15-31 or 1-14), url to login. 90% of my bills are on auto pay. I'm also doing the snowball tactic for getting out of debt. Each pay day and also write down on paper all the bills i'm paying for that pay period and then budget the remaining (gas for car, groceries, fun $) and then take extra to pay down my debt.

    • @RelatableMotherhood
      @RelatableMotherhood  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nice!! I tried the google sheet thing but I just need it down on paper. I love that Google drive allows that though! It's really useful.

    I love this budgeting idea. I just wish I could figure out how to do this for (let's say farming) income where it's extremely irregular and unknown when someone will end up paying you and there's a lot of bills to be paid, some of which are extremely large annual bills versus only monthly.

    • @RelatableMotherhood
      @RelatableMotherhood  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would still list all bills in the back of the book, and maybe have a separate page in the back for the annual bills that I can reference back to. Then in the front where I'm doing my month pages where I'll have our paychecks written down, I'd jot down next to whatever month the annual bill will be coming out "farm supply renewal this month" or whatever it is lol. I'm not familiar with what kind of bills you might have. But that way when I flip to the new month I remember I need to plug that in somewhere. If it's a yearly expense I imagine you're prepping for it all year anyways right? You could break it down into 12 monthly payments that you pay to your savings account and then consider it a monthly bill. I'm just brainstorming over here 😊 as far as money coming in sporadically, I'm not sure. That sounds really stressful 😔 is there any way to set dates to make sure you're paid at certain times? I can't imagine the stress of not knowing when the next check will show up ❤️ that sounds super hard

    Paper budget person as well, and tried other budget templates but they didn’t seem to work because they were too specific or not specific enough. So I just use a notebook and layout as I want!

    • @RelatableMotherhood
      @RelatableMotherhood  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I struggle with this too. I think the big thing is self control and thinking about the end goal. We want to pay off debt and save for a house. If I justify buying new clothes I don't need or dropping 60 to 80 bucks on eating out as a family, that's money that could have gone towards the debt. It's like I'm ruining my own goals and only thinking of present me, not future me. I'm not perfect at this at all, but whenever I spend money I think about our end goal and if what I'm spending is worth it or not.

  • @SoMagicalMichele

    I have tried a lot of different ways. I keep returning to my system. I have a list of all of the bills for the month with their amounts. When I pay it or set the money aside for it, I erase the money from my list or change the amount if I put a partial amount in. Each time I get money, I take care of as many as I can until I'm ready to look at the next month.

  • @freemanfamily788

    I have like 6-7 savings accounts for bills or savings goals, eg: rent, power, internet, Xmas and birthdays, holidays and car maintenance all hav their own account and when it needs to be paid I just transfer it into the main chequing account done. over pay the bills by 10-20 per pay and become a month ahead of bills within 18months 2year

    • @RelatableMotherhood
      @RelatableMotherhood  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's clever to overpay a tiny bit and end up ahead! I bet that comes in handy at just the right moments too.

    No clue if I missed it, but do you guys have a savings account and do you set aside a percentage or certain amount each week???

    • @RelatableMotherhood
      @RelatableMotherhood  ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't talk about our savings account. We do have one 😊 we don't have a set amount we save each week or anything like that. That's a good idea though! We are in a tight season and we usually just throw whatever we have leftover after bills are paid into savings or at debt, or we do something fun with it.

    • @kat3lyn555
      @kat3lyn555 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RelatableMotherhood❤ love this! I started budgeting and everywhere is saying to save 20% then have sinking funds! Good to see that I’m not the only one struggling in this time.

    • @RelatableMotherhood
      @RelatableMotherhood  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kat3lyn555 You are definitely not ❤️ if we saved 20% we wouldn't be able to make rent lol. I think more people live paycheck to paycheck than there are who will admit it. We're hopeful that things will change and we're working hard, but things are right tight now and we're getting by.
