One thing I'm doing that wastes my time is watch youtube videos on how to be more productive. I realize it's not productive to spend 4 hours doing so, yet here I am

Thank you for putting up a list! For me I also have the opposite of number 2. Sometimes I overestimate the time it will take, so I don't start task. Have to chant 5min matter. Mother-in-law used to say"the biggest monster goes away one bite at a time"
I stopped fussing over towels and it changed my life. I toss those things in with our combined laundry and stuff them in a cabinet/ drawer without folding them and the world is still turning. I used to spend 15 minutes rolling them like at hotels.
As a 56 yr old homeschooling mom of 12---that was a mouthfull !---I really appreciate this video. I've been watching you for a few years and love your content. I am a " slow living " kind of person, but there are always seasons where "my hair is on fire" 🤣, just like everyone. I was sewing my daughter a skirt while I watched your video, combining 2 things I thoroughly enjoy. Thank you for speaking truths that you have learned about yourself and your ife. Thank you for putting them out there for others to hear and contemplate.
I love the Mom uniform. I realized I needed this some months ago. I made a list of the top 5 things that caused me to feel behind or 'unaccomplished' every day, and I purposed to put them first. Now I get up at 5a and do those 5 things (personal grooming + Mom uniform; water+vitamins+stretching; tea + devotional; do one quiet chore). Now when I do all those things first, I don't automatically feel like the world is hanging over my head when things don't go as planned at home or at work.
@@languagelearningdabbler I found making a meal plan for the week helps , then when you have some spare time earlier in the day maybe prepare the veggies or even have the whole meal prepared so at dinner time it's easy to just cook it up. I find we get to dinner time and we are saying oh what are we gonna have , and often we are tired and end up buying take out, which is not as good as home cooked food.
I constantly feel under pressure. I have two special needs kids, and one of them and my husband get overstimulated when there’s any clutter out. Yet I’m the only one who cleans everything. Having a family of five to care for alone is so hard! But I’m cleaning out now and trying to simplify my life as I recently came to terms with a shopping addiction to deal with the stress. It causes an endless crazy cycle of stuff making clutter making stress causing shopping. I’m not a hoarder. I’ll be clear about that. I have zero problem throwing away or donating stuff, but I do buy and return a lot, and that buyer’s remorse wastes so much of my time! That’s stopping now. Looking forward to half listening to more of your videos while I do the dishes or fold laundry. 😅
I don't have a TV problem as we gave it up over 5 yrs ago. But, I DO have a TH-cam addiction. 😬I love watching videos like yours along with DIY videos of all things I could be making, but don't because I'm watching YT videos.
Something that has really helped me to waste less time is to just have less stuff overall. My husband and I have moved 8 times in the past year (long, annoying story) so I have been, more or less, living out of a suitcase for a year. It has been so nice having fewer things to clean! If I don't have a lot of things to put away, then I don't spend as much time putting them away! Most of my cleaning time is spent doing the tasks that are usually put off because we are too busy organizing our junk! Vacuuming, cleaning the toilet, deep cleaning the kitchen, etc. It's been nice and I don't feel overwhelmed! Overwhelmed with the rest of life, yes, but not in my home. ❤
My family started the “Saturday morning cartoons” idea, where my kiddos can watch anything of their choosing and eat cold cereal (a weekend treat) on Saturday morning. We’ve been doing it for about a year and it’s been awesome! We had a nasty habit of turning the tv on in the morning, just so mama can get things done. But this usually led to us not starting our day until 9am. Now, we have breakfast done, everyone dressed and morning chores done by 9am! I understand this doesn’t work for everyone, but it sure does help our family!
I don’t understand what you meant… you said you started Saturday morning cartoons now and you used to just turn on the tv so you can get things done. What is the thing you did that was different? How did you go from starting your day at 9am, to then chores and getting dressed by 9am by implementing cartoon mornings??? Does anyone else understand?? Cuz so far 23 ppl like this comment…
Oaky, I'm now 62 and EVERYTHING you listed are how I organize myself and I can tell you it make my life go so much better. I've done them since my 20's. Can't imagine anything different Batching my 1 trip to town a week, I even take in account the places I need to stop at on the right side of the street and what order they are and hit those, then on the way home (back the way I came) I stop at those places on the opposite side of the street so I don't have any backtracking..
I love the pick three things for your to do list. I have recently cut my phone time down to maybe two hours after being reminded how destructive mentally it is to spend so much screen time. Ok showing my age here, but until smart phones were a thing my capacity to remember any information whether educational or as simple as phone numbers were so much greater than it is today. I feel that having a smart phone has dumbed me down. 🤪 Many blessings, Linda
The less things I have on my list, the less I get done. 🙃 Oh, I have ALLLLLL DAY to get those two things done! But, I totally agree, my smartphone has made me stupid. I have to set alarms and reminders to do BASIC things throughout the day and have no concept of what time it is EVER.
I think one thing that is great about my personality is, I'm a minimalist and I always get rid of excess. I also only put makeup on for holidays and love my mom outfit, a simple stretchy dress for when I'm home witch is every week day while my children are young. For me I'm happy just to get dishes and laundry done, anything else feels like a miracle.
The best thing we did was remove tv from our home. The kids get it as a treat and just like you said, they respect it so much more. I recommend everyone doing this. Also their overall behaviour has improved. Love your videos ❤
I'm a momma of 7, here is one of my tips. don't do all of your cleaning on 1 day. instead spread it through the week like Mondays I mop the floors and Tuesdays I clean the bathrooms. whatever works for you. then you know what chores you have and how long it will take you. leaving you more time for what's important.
My biggest downfall is that I have a chronic illness. I put a whole lot on my to-do list and then very little gets done not because I didn’t try but because I run into chronic pain or literally run out of energy. It is frustrating but I have to listen to my body. I have learned to accept each day that I am given and do what I can with that day. If only the laundry gets done that day then I celebrate myself that day!!! It makes a huge difference in how I feel about myself. Of course there are days that I wish I could be the super productive me of before I got sick. But I cannot wallow in it because it does me NO GOOD!!! I am the person I am today and I have to accept that! ❤
I can definitely relate. I manage an autoimmune condition and I have to also accept that there will be times that many things might not get done because I have to listen to my body cues.
I too have chronic issues so what I do is I do one thing at a time and take a break. For example I wake up, get a load in the wash while I make myself coffee, rest, then make breakfast, rest, put load in dryer, start prepping kitchen to clean, rest, wash dishes and put away, rest, wipe down bathroom, remove clothes from dryer and put basket in living room, rest, fold laundry and put away, rest, then do a pickup of the living room. Mind you I rest between 5-10 minutes if needed, if I'm doing okay then I don't rest and move along to the next task. This kind of thing helps me be productive. If I can at least clean my kitchen, do a load of laundry and do a quick pick up I am productive. One thing I don't do is let my laundry build up so I just have a habit of doing a load a day to help keep me from getting back to that point
I completely agree on the TV I unplugged mine 7 weeks ago do not watch it all.. if I want news content I go to my local station on you tube and can pick and choose the news stories I want to hear about. I am on social media alot but it's always about learning gardening canning cooking channels mostly. I sat here and listened to your channel while hand sewing tonight. Earlier in the evening had dinner on the front porch with a friend/neighbor enjoyed each others company and being outside in the air watching the neighborhood cat chase a bird. I am learning to stay unplugged from the negativity going on in our country and around the world more now days. Anna In Ohio
Make a Google Doc for the shopping list that everyone has access to. That way everyone can add things whenever they notice something is needed and it's ready to go for whoever does the shopping. It makes life so much easier.
This was super helpful, thank you. Struggling to figure out how to manage it all after getting a mild traumatic brain injury almost 2 months ago. I used to juggle 50+hour workweeks away from home and come home and knock out all of our housework. I don't know how I used to do it. I'll be giving this a try.
I actually have kind of the opposite problem with time estimates. I seem to always overestimate the amount of time things will take. For example, I’ll budget myself 30 minutes to fold laundry, but I usually finish folding in 15 minutes. Then I budget 20 minutes for putting laundry away and it takes only 10 minutes. I do the same with travel times. I estimate it will take me 30 minutes to get to point B, but then I get there in 15 minutes somehow (not speeding!) and don’t understand what happened. 😂
I got a weekend break away from all the noise of life and realized these exact points on my own... And now I hear you confirming all of my thoughts. Thanks for sharing these.
I definitely saw your mom uniform video the year before and it was a game changer of one less thing to worry about. I got a theme of cute and easy things that weren’t hard to pick from minimalist my wardrobe and so much easier to
Thank you for mentioning the grocery delivery service guilt! I recently put my foot down and decided I was going to subscribe to such service because I no longer find satisfaction in grocery shopping and I was wasting so much time deciding what to cook and driving around to several grocery stores.
This channel (and this gathered nest) are my all time favorite places on the internet. Your content is always so fun and relevant. You have been amazing inspiration to start homeschooling my children and I absolutely love your family too (I happened across Rosie's first intro video from when she was little yesterday.. so cute and OMG has Benji grown so big!!). Thanks for consistently putting out amazing content. P.s. Love the Mom uniform and your hair looks AMAZING in this video :)
Love this advice! I do feel I need to point out that you can't just replace TV with things like scrubbing the carpet or other work. That's only going to lead to burnout, even if it's work you enjoy! Find something restful to do instead. I'm often having to rest and wait for meds to kick in so I actually watch long form (20min or more) educational content exclusively during the day and I try to stick to TV made in the UK as it moves at a more natural pace and each shot is 3x longer on average.
Before tv people used to visit each other after dinner. Times have changed and people are so much more lonely and isolated. It's amazing how much time we really have and what we can accomplish when we turn the screens off.
We live rural. No option for grocery delivery. And now our local store closed. I go to the city 70 miles away once a week for my child’s music class. I try to do allll the things that day. Amazon returns. Pick up parts for the farm. I try to do a target pickup for most basics and groceries. Sometimes I have to go to an actual grocery store too of course. And all other errands. Homeschool supplies etc. Visit friends or go to a park if possible. I agree on TV. I never turn it on but my hubby turns it on every night when he gets home from work. It’s in the family room above the garage. When our kid was born I had it removed from the small living room where you could see it from the dining room so it’s not on the main floor which I love. But then he goes up there and I don’t even see him. But we have 2 in the house. One in the master bedroom which is a love hate thing. I DO love when we can stay up and watch a movie together. But I hate when I come to bed and he’s zoned out watching it and we don’t have quality time to talk or I’d prefer we read. Our kid basically watches tv with dad or a movie or documentary as a family like national park shows or history of America or a cooking show or little house on the prairie reruns as a treat once in awhile.
Im not a mom, but I reduced my wardrobe to basic clothes, so my uniform is a shirt and jeans. My to do list is short. Dishes, counters, laundry, pick up put away, vacuum and dust one room daily. Feed the pets. Yard work. study. Most of these are 15 minute chores. I even have spare time. My grocery list is ongoing. Dinner planning is easy. Thawed meat becomes a meal. If I have spare time I still feel like cleaning, I hit areas that need done. Today I cleaned out my cheese drawer. I had to cut mold off which means I had to reclean my counters. But it felt great getting rid of the mold was beneficial to me since Im allergic to it. 95% of my shopping is done at Costco. We got rid of our tv years ago. Thanks for letting me know I have it right.
I used to love grocery trips, but then two years into motherhood and I hate the crap out of them. Such a waste of time so instant cart all the way now and I'm learning to be fine with the alternatives for the items I usually prefer but happen to not be available when I make the purchase. Set a limit two weeks ago on my social media usage except for TH-cam because I only watch TH-cam while doing the dishes or folding laundry and such. And master to do lists are sooo good they're like that garbage eating fish in an aquarium LOL when you put things on there, they leave your mind feeling spotless because I don't have to carry that piece of chaos with me everywhere in fear of it being forgotten. Amazing video. I feel validated and inspired to continue on this journey to live more intentionally and strategically ❤
18:38 The mundane things. Every time I hear this word I’m reminded of a quote that Susan Sarandon’s character says in the movie Shall We Dance. “People get married because we need a witness to our lives. In a marriage you’re promising to care about everything, the good things, the bad things, the mundane things.” Ugh, now I gotta go watch it. Great & interesting cast. But yes, our life memories are definitely in the mundane things.
I've been forced to do my errands in batches since my husband and I got rid of our second car! Now I run all my errands only on days when I or one of my six kids have an appointment with a healthcare provider. I have to drive my husband to work on those days, so when I know we have an appointment coming up, I plan all the other errands I can run while I have the car. It saves a lot of time (and gas money)!
Something that has helped me a lot is to make weekly to-do lists, because when im not able to do something on a day, i think that a still have the rest of the week to accomplish it, so it makes the whole process less stressful
It is easy to feel overwhelmed and like we are failing daily, especially when we are trying so hard to do it ALL. You aren’t alone. And we can all learn from this advice Angie gives - it is so good! Going to implement some of it starting Monday!
I agree with the last rule. I switched over to audio books so I can do my chores and cooking without interuption. You can rent free audio books from most libraries. I definitely reccomend. I also stopped opening social media as soon as I sit down. I'm embarrassed at how much time I spend on it and I know it really affects (effects?) my time at home.
This was a great video! I follow a lot of these suggestions and manage to get a lot done, however, it takes time and doesn’t happen over night. I try one thing at a time and when I feel comfortable with that, add another thing on.
I have often thought of some of these things but truly wondered just how HELPFUL they would be. I believe that they all DO make a difference though! It is just like cleaning your Home etc. When broken down into smaller, more manageable chunks, you get some where/make progress. Verses the later. 🙂
Angela, you're looking gorgeous! Not going to allow the tubs of rainwater I caught yesterday to go to waste. Using it to wash my living room curtains by hand is at the top of my to-do list! Thanks for your motivation!
Great video! .. But I just want to know where you got the dress you're wearing in the thumbnail! 😍 Love the thumbnail design, by the way. I don't normally watch videos like this, but I clicked so fast. Lol
After bed and during nap time is my relax time, no working and recharging. My preferred activity is video games or watching tv. I also do crafting when in the mood. When the kids are awake it’s go go go for me. 😝 clean, cook, play with kids, errands.
Since my husband and I got married, I did not want a TV in our living/family room. I know how much time I’ve wasted in the past on it….a million episodes of CSI, NCIS …ALL THE CRIME SHOWS! 😂 and… also saw my parents waste so much time on it, growing up. And I just refuse! We have one in the basement. The kids get just a little time in the afternoon to watch. And we occasionally have a movie night. But I’m happy it can’t be a temptation for me! Because I know myself and my addictive personality…I would not get anything done! ✔️
I think my adhd (working on getting diagnosed so undiagnosed) interferes with typical advise being helpful for me; depending how I wake up feeling my first task should be important or really simple like attending to eating or drinking or brushing my hair because simply doing anything helps me. And even personal hygiene can cause overwelm. Also my mom uniform is leggings, chore pants, or a seasonal dress and I love when the weather is predictable so I really get thoughtless about my uniform.
Fantastic work as always Angie! Thank you for always bringing such thought provoking content to help us grow, learn and stretch towards our better selves with so much style, class and wonderful humor! I can't wait for the video on your life changing lists ! Blessings to you and yours!!
I've gotten into the habit of not having the tv on just because and it's rubbing off on the kids too. It's nice when we all sit down for movie night and it's not just what we do every single day
This was great. Thanks for sharing. Finally subscribed after years of following you. Lol. I also have a channel and we homeschool too. So glad to be able to connect here!
I know this is an old video but I just wanted to say, I quit social media.. completely. I also set a 2 hour TH-cam time limit on my phone. I don’t turn the tv on until my husband gets home and wants to watch something. I am a 23 year old mom of two boys (3 and 1) with my third son due in December. My house has completely changed sense making these small changes!
I'm such a list maker. I need a list. Checking things off gives me great satisfaction. I also set a rule that I must do at least one thing on the list a day. If I do more, that's a bonus. Edit: I also loath leaving the house once I'm home

You’re spot on..even more littles are on iPads ALL the time…..it’s very disturbing…thx for the video
@@juliefall2892that sounds so lovely, getting visits from people I like yes please!
0:20 this speaks to me because I don't even have the time to write my book🙃
You’ve won me over again, this is about the best most relatable video ive seen on getting sorted!!!
In a marriage you’re promising to care about everything, the good things, the bad things, the mundane things.”
Ugh, now I gotta go watch it.
YASS!! Grocery delivery - totally worth the added cost. Not giving that up.
I haven’t watched the video yet and I mainly clicked because I really want that apron!
I multitask while watching TH-cam, I'm cleaning, folding cloths writing and etc
Something that has helped me a lot is to make weekly to-do lists, because when im not able to do something on a day, i think that a still have the rest of the week to accomplish it, so it makes the whole process less stressful
Thank you for helping me feel not alone in this area. Perfect timing as I've been feeling overwhelmed and like I'm failing on the daily. ❤️
It is easy to feel overwhelmed and like we are failing daily, especially when we are trying so hard to do it ALL. You aren’t alone. And we can all learn from this advice Angie gives - it is so good! Going to implement some of it starting Monday!
Thanks!
Loved this video! I watched it while I made my breakfast and brushed my teeth 😆 Great reminders, and some of these ideas are new so it was great!
Yes to All! As a mid-50's Homemaker I can attest that all of your Tips are Excellent Ones :-D.
You just popped up in my feed. This is my first video of yours I've seen. Thank you so much for this video! I'll refer back to it often. Subscribed! ❤
Love that you all are interested in that apron 🥰
I do the same thing with the master list I thought I was crazy but here you are doing it to!
I write reminders almost everywhere I know I'll see them.
I LOVE the master list for daily lists i also love the mom uniform. That would really help me out!
I’m the same way! home body who leaves home maybe once a week. gotta get all the errands done on that one trip
1:05 I love how you’re mothering even in this moment. I am out of my wits but I giggled so much because you know there were some watching smugly 😂
Love your video! This is so accurate. Love that u decided to cut off tv for the kids. I feel like that's so beneficial.
Great video! .. But I just want to know where you got the dress you're wearing in the thumbnail! 😍
Love the thumbnail design, by the way. I don't normally watch videos like this, but I clicked so fast. Lol
You're really having fun with these thumbnail pics and it shows Angie! You look gorgeous
Lol. That was funny. I accidentally bumped my phone and went out of the video RIGHT after you said "...our attention spans have gotten so short--"
The struggle is really, awesome video .
This video has resonated the most as far as bettering/organizing my life and bringing peace to my home - now to stick to it 😅
Yesss the demon voice in the beginning 🎉🎉 thank you for these tips. Much appreciated!
I use the walmart app as my shopping list. I just add stuff to the cart and either do walmart pickup or use it as a list in a different as store.
Very helpful. Thank you 😊
It's always nice to see a TH-cam video suggesting we don't watch so many TH-cam videos. 😛
I love humor- you hooked me with “my fellow squirrels”
Fantastic work as always Angie! Thank you for always bringing such thought provoking content to help us grow, learn and stretch towards our better selves with so much style, class and wonderful humor! I can't wait for the video on your life changing lists ! Blessings to you and yours!!
I've gotten into the habit of not having the tv on just because and it's rubbing off on the kids too. It's nice when we all sit down for movie night and it's not just what we do every single day
Very helpful thank you so much
This is amazing talk! Thank you! ❤👍
This was great. Thanks for sharing. Finally subscribed after years of following you. Lol. I also have a channel and we homeschool too. So glad to be able to connect here!
My fellow squirrel 🐿️ 😂… So true 😅
Okay but I need that gorgeous green apron 😍
great video! thank you!
“The older, you get, the harder it is to remember things.”….. I’m a squirrel watching this at 28 and now I’m concerned 😅
Seriously needed this video today! Thank you so much!
I'm such a list maker. I need a list. Checking things off gives me great satisfaction. I also set a rule that I must do at least one thing on the list a day. If I do more, that's a bonus.
Edit: I also loath leaving the house once I'm home
Haha we call them trips to “the city” when we leave our little rural town😂
Ok, ok I'll have to do the mom uniform and the grocery delivery🙄😅
Screen kids is a great book to read! Very eye opening! 🙌🏼
Love it! Will be waiting for the video on master to do list.
I love this video series!
Also, where can I find the apron you’re wearing in the thumbnail?!
Love your hair like that.
I work full time and I have a toddler, so yeah, that’s where all my time goes.
Great video!!!... Btw, your hair looks amazing and your pearls bracelets are super cute ( share the link please ☺️)
Great video! Where is your apron from, the one in your thumbnail??
That short attention is not TV's falt
Where did you get your adorable apron that you're wearing in the title shot? It's so cute!!
Yes! Yes! Yes! 100% on the TV thing.
Thank you so much for these tips! Sorry if I missed it, but where is your apron from from the thumbnail? It’s so stinkin’ cute! 🤍
Nobody says stinkin anymore. Always sounded like talking to a three year old.
I agree 100% with #7
I would love to know where you got your apron!!
Great reminders!
You look amazing. Thanks for another great video.
