I've played CB all through Rise and watched so many speedruns for it and I NEVER FIGUEED OUT HOW TO RECHARGE PHIALS WHILE IN AXE MODE! This was so helpful! All this time I thought I needed to position myself better on the monster to catch multiple hit zones with the same swing or maybe there was an armor skill I didn't know about BUT NO, IT WAS JUST PRESS AND HOLD THE BUTTON! THANK YOU!!

@@jaymeelwilson5879 once you learn it in one game, you've got the basics down to probably main it in other games (if it's fun), but it's always worth watching videos like this all the way through because of all the little details they add or change and/or never tell you about, such as doing AED rather than SAED with charged shield. I play all weapons but always come back to CB, and I suck at it.
@@jaymeelwilson5879the individual moves are really easy to understand. It’s the flow chart that is hard. Gunlance is the opposite for example, it’s really convoluted to remember how to get to full burst and wyrmsteak but once you memorized them (there’s like 3 ways to get into fullburst and like 3-4 ways to get into wyrmstake), all you have to to is see which step you are at and get to your nuke from there

I wish those guides would begin by saying that you charge your shield, charge your sword, and SAED, as follow-ups of Counter Peak Performance (CPP). In a real fight, you will extremely rarely be able to charge your shield by doing a slash + shield thrust + AED + Cancel. It's very inefficient, and you're super vulnerable when doing it. Same goes for SAED, when your shield is charged, don't go about trying to charge your phials with sword attacks to build up phials and then slash + shield thrust + SAED. All this is good to know but will very rarely be used, for instance it has uses in multiplayer when agro is not on you. But, in a regular play, when you are solo or when agro is on you, all your SAEDs/charges should come as follow-ups of CPP. Fight begins CPP -> AED + Cancel = shield charged CPP -> CES = Sword charged CPP -> SAED Your survivability is through the roof and the rate of your SAEDs is insane (you can SAED every 5-10s as such). Don't go about charging phials by bashing the monster with your sword.
OMG, I was legit praying somebody made a nice *in-depth* charge blade guide for sunbreak since during base rise I felt so underwhelmed with it I started slacking with my gameplay. Will continue to watch your runs, the buffs really motivated me to go hard with this weapon again 😈
Thank you for acknowledging that it's not always all about stacking damage skills, and that utility skills are important too. I'm not a speed-runner material so I can't play those crazy glass cannon meta builds with constant health loss, and there's barely any other builds you can find.

Awesome charge blade guide. It’s always good to get a review from time to time. Charge blade is one of the hardest weapons to learn in Sunbreak. But once you get the hang of how it works. The weapon is pretty fun. Change blade is not a button spamming type weapon. It takes timing and patience to get good with it. Thanks for the review. I learned that I can get to shield thrust in just two hits. That’s an awesome shortcut to sed/aed. I am in love with air dash and ace hopper. Smashing down on a monster or knocking them out of the air is so satisfying. 😄
This guide is probably the best around. The last MonHun game I've played was Generations, ao I needed a little reminder on how to play. Currently sunk like 40 hours in Rise and I've noticed that all those new ways to charge phials makes you really, REALLY spam SAEDs.(and miss a good chunck of them) In my opinion one of the first things that a new Charge Blade user needs to learn is to not get greedy and practice on a swift and tiny monster to not use a SAED every time you have a charged shield and max phials
The only thing missing from this guide is an actual hunt (complete not cut footage) to see how the weapon behaves, like whats your standard rotation, etc. Like when am I supposed to charge my sword or when is it optimal to hit with axe isntead of sword etc
I don't know if anyone descovered it yet so I put it here : You can skip the "fail loading animation" when you try to charge up your blade or SA without any yellow or red phials by juste pressing the charging button almost imediatelly after pressing the charge up phials buttons. The timing is tight but it's not that hard. Sorry if it's not clear, english isn't my first language. By the way, as a main CB since 4U, I really appriciate this video !
That last Damage /= DPS bit really hot the spot. I'm a really bad player and was following meta builds but always getting knocked out during my hunts, so my times were abyssmal and many times I straight up failed my missions by getting knocked out three times. Then I tryied going more tank and utility based builds instead of damage oriented ones and suprise surpise, not only did I stop failing missions, but my times where reduced considerably
Some discoveries i made: If you charge the sword or spinning axe in one mode and then switch skill swap (SSS) it will TRANSFER the buff! One of the most effective play styles I’ve found for firing-pin is charging the sword and hitting as much as possible. When your phials are glowing, store them and immediately hit circle. This is one of the fastest ways to go into axe mode but it was never really necessary before. But NOW it’s the fastest way to trigger all of your firing-pin phials mid-fight. These two tricks combine to make one of the most fun play styles I’ve ever felt with CB. I have yet to play with the other 2 new silkbinds but I imagine the jump will be fantastic when paired with firing-pin,
Love the note at the end about DPS. Being able to capitalize on damage is more than just "look at how high the attack on my build is!" "Damage uptime" is a much better way of looking at it. Your insights are top notch and I love your videos, thanks for everything you do!
I've been wanting to main charge blade to replace insect glaive as my 2nd best weapon but i'm a little intimidated by it's difficulty this guide helped me alot took out a valstrax 3 times with this thing solo recently.
The very last tip was very useful I've been playing with my cousin and best friend My friend has been running all offensive skills; my cousin and I keep telling him to run evade extender so he can have a slightly better dodge but he won't listen. You can't damage the monster if you keep getting knocked down or stunned.
Hype up ready stance more! It's good for repositioning directionally at will, but the true secret sauce is that it animation cancels any other cooldown animations and keeps your uptime extremely high. It eliminates the downtime in certain matchups that CB typically isn't fun against (high speed / high monster uptime fights like furious Jang). Ready stance is damn near mandatory on my skillbar since it has such high animation priority. If you're actionable at any point, you can RS at will.
the guardpoint and a successful block can both let you saed or aed not just guardpoints but only if you don't take much knockback. Not just guardpoints. Reiterating this in the comments because it's useful for fighting shaggy back in 4 and i recently replayed 4 this'll help a little bit against risen depending on how good your timing is and aed's are a bit faster.

I am generally overwhelmed with the game and could need some help with it like where to get all the switch skills/when do I get them, and maybe even some general mh knowledge like what are the chances for statues effects to trigger like paralysis how do I avoid some thing like sleep/para. can I free myself of these effects? just stuff like this you know. it there is a guide already it would be nice if someone could post a link.
I think since I’m a long sword main iai slash timing is pretty similar to the guard position so it was a easy transition I’m really enjoying this weapon so far
Nice tutorial! Just started using CB and it is hard to change from fast pace SnS to CB that has to calculate every move. Just to add from Eri N tutorial, successful guard added bonus damage to phial explosion.
Ready stance has made me enjoy playing savage axe mode more, base rise I didn’t like it that much but ready stance letting you just string attacks together in a more fun way
The reason you don't always want to use firing pin is because you are required to actually hit the pins with your axe in order to get the bonus damage and shield charge time increase. It's simply too unreliable compared to the normal explosions if you're going for damage as monsters can move a lot and make it difficult to reliably get an axe hit in whereas the instant exosions are at least some minor damage
I feel like Charge Blade is dropping inputs even more frequently since the beginning of Sunbreak, is this true for anybody else or just me? Specifically it seems to mainly happen to me with charging the phials, and doing triangle + circle combo attacks (the button inputs that would let you access the shield thrust in case I just confused people) and it mainly happens right as I try to go into an SAED from those triangle + circle attacks, and just tries to make me do a charged sword attack (the one really good at charging phials)
I think it’s the game in general. I’m running at 60fps constantly but i have to rapidly smash e to sharpen because it wont sharpen even though I’m not doing anything besides walking/running. Never had this issue in world and i run world
The patch notes mention that they've made it easier to perform Charged Double Slash after Shield Thrust, but this has the unfortunate consequence that it is harder to do SAED after Shield Thrust now, since Charged Double Slash now has priority if you accidentally hit the button for it first. So what appears to be intended as a buff turned into a nerf, effectively.
I got a love hate with rapid morph on CB. I feel like the animation is slightly faster with lvl 3 but really not that fast. But I think it’s fast enough that it fucks with my timing with GP. Personally I wouldn’t say it’s a must
Rapid Morph only speeds up the actual morphing part of the animation, so the GP frames of the most used GP (sword to axe in regular morph slash and both morphs in counter morph slash) stay the same with the same timing. The only timing that gets affected is axe to sword on regular morph slash, since the GP is at the end of the animation. The GP frames stay the same, but thy come slightly earlier. Still, I wouldn't really use this GP to guard stuff.
@@lavos333 after playing like 15 hours more with exclusively CB on sunbreak I have come with a slightly different opinion. The rapid morph is clutch. I’m actually feeling the difference and morphing so fast is awesome. I’m still struggling with GP though. Of course the main one is sword to axe. I’m used to it being a bit delayed so you kinda gotta press it early. But I feel like you morph so fast the GP animation is really short or something. I find myself having to GP the instantly when I’m getting hit. I’m thinking I just gotta git gud. Sunbreak is amazing though

After doing some guessing, one possible charm that could meet the needs would be: Bludgeoner 3 (B) Load shells 2 (A) Slots 1 Lvl 3 (Offensive guard) 1 lvl 2 (Attack) 1 lvl 1 (Thunder attack) The armor set has 1 lvl 3, 3 lvl 2 and 5 lvl 1, so an example slotting would be: Lvl 3: Offensive Guard Lvl 2: Rapid Morph Lvl 2: Rapid Morph Lvl 2: Rapid Morph Lvl 1: Stun resistance Lvl 1: Flinch Free Lvl 1: Thunder Attack Lvl 1: Thunder Attack Lvl 1: Thunder Attack The thing is B+A gets 3-1-1 slots, so there's gotta be some alternate slotting that lets you get this with a legal charm.
Hello, I'm trying to learn to aim aed with the shield charged but I can't do it consistently, I think I'm missing something, either it still aim right in front of me or just go for an saed completely on the left or the right depending on whether I try to put my joystick backleft or backright, can you help me understand this please ? 😅 Really nice video btw, respect for helping beginners to understand this beautiful game 🙌
i am on the fence abou the changes to savage axe/spinning axe. i liked the hold inputs because it allows better hitzone control, while in world a lot of hits were "wasted" in bad places. on the other hand the change of spining not taking energy is good but it being lost on morph really makes it feel a bit clunky, on top of that you cant even use the wire dash without losing the buff. so... yeah... around 50/50 i guess...
I was wondering why my fake savage axe didn't do multiple ticks of damage. This is the first out of 4 or so CB vids that even mentioned you're supposed to hold the button........
I feel like you missed the most important aspect which is, for people coming from world, monsters attacking twice or even three times in a row making guardpoints useless and very frustrating
There are only "Impact phials" and "Power Element Phials". Impact adds KO damage and can be boosted by Artillery. Power Element just deals more damage, given that the monster has a big elemental weakness
i cant charge my sword, im doing everything correctly but the name says condensed axe and not sword, i see the weapon is charged, shinning red, but once i switch to sword mode its gone again
the direction is relative to the way your character is facing, not the camera. you have to be pressing the direction that would be left or right for your avatar not the screen itself. it took me a while to figure this out too
I use keyboard and I can not get it to work. I can not understand how to charge my shield or sword. I am genuinely confused. I have only ever played one weapon and I was like ''hey, let's give charge blade a try''.
Base keybind for keyboard is horrible, for all weapons. I am using Ctrl for Guard Q for Silkbind To store phials: Ctrl+Right click To charge shield: R+L click (click at the same time) 3 times, Ctrl when you see your shield starts attaching) To charge sword: Have a charged shield, Ctrl+Right click, hold Left click and release at right timing
I tried CB today with guard 5 and guard up 3, is it normal to still get hit when I use counter peak performance? Or is the timing stricter than guard pointing?
counter peak performance can only block ONE hit and the blocking frames last until your shield reengages back to normal, which is also exactly when you block something. otherwise all i can really see here is that you didnt block in the right direction
Maybe you should watch the whole video before you comment, not is Ready stance always up. & it's not part of base movement. It's more optimal if you have 3 wirebugs. 16:55.

I used the charge blade on all the hunts from 1 star to 6 star and I only recently learned that there's more to it than the zappy weed whacker mode.

I'm late to say this but: the Axe Phials also activate it making Firing Pin excellent for SAED
I can't even pull off turning my shield icon red but can do the buttons correctly.
Firing pin explosions refill shield boost timer too
I feel like Charge Blade is dropping inputs even more frequently since the beginning of Sunbreak, is this true for anybody else or just me? Specifically it seems to mainly happen to me with charging the phials, and doing triangle + circle combo attacks (the button inputs that would let you access the shield thrust in case I just confused people) and it mainly happens right as I try to go into an SAED from those triangle + circle attacks, and just tries to make me do a charged sword attack (the one really good at charging phials)
I think it’s the game in general. I’m running at 60fps constantly but i have to rapidly smash e to sharpen because it wont sharpen even though I’m not doing anything besides walking/running. Never had this issue in world and i run world
The patch notes mention that they've made it easier to perform Charged Double Slash after Shield Thrust, but this has the unfortunate consequence that it is harder to do SAED after Shield Thrust now, since Charged Double Slash now has priority if you accidentally hit the button for it first.
So what appears to be intended as a buff turned into a nerf, effectively.
I got a love hate with rapid morph on CB. I feel like the animation is slightly faster with lvl 3 but really not that fast. But I think it’s fast enough that it fucks with my timing with GP. Personally I wouldn’t say it’s a must
Rapid Morph only speeds up the actual morphing part of the animation, so the GP frames of the most used GP (sword to axe in regular morph slash and both morphs in counter morph slash) stay the same with the same timing.
The only timing that gets affected is axe to sword on regular morph slash, since the GP is at the end of the animation. The GP frames stay the same, but thy come slightly earlier. Still, I wouldn't really use this GP to guard stuff.
@@lavos333 after playing like 15 hours more with exclusively CB on sunbreak I have come with a slightly different opinion. The rapid morph is clutch. I’m actually feeling the difference and morphing so fast is awesome. I’m still struggling with GP though. Of course the main one is sword to axe. I’m used to it being a bit delayed so you kinda gotta press it early. But I feel like you morph so fast the GP animation is really short or something. I find myself having to GP the instantly when I’m getting hit. I’m thinking I just gotta git gud. Sunbreak is amazing though

After doing some guessing, one possible charm that could meet the needs would be:
Bludgeoner 3 (B)
Load shells 2 (A)

1 Lvl 3 (Offensive guard)
1 lvl 2 (Attack)
1 lvl 1 (Thunder attack)
The armor set has 1 lvl 3, 3 lvl 2 and 5 lvl 1, so an example slotting would be:
Lvl 3: Offensive Guard
Lvl 2: Rapid Morph
Lvl 2: Rapid Morph
Lvl 2: Rapid Morph
Lvl 1: Stun resistance
Lvl 1: Flinch Free
Lvl 1: Thunder Attack
Lvl 1: Thunder Attack
Lvl 1: Thunder Attack
The thing is B+A gets 3-1-1 slots, so there's gotta be some alternate slotting that lets you get this with a legal charm.

Hello, I'm trying to learn to aim aed with the shield charged but I can't do it consistently, I think I'm missing something, either it still aim right in front of me or just go for an saed completely on the left or the right depending on whether I try to put my joystick backleft or backright, can you help me understand this please ? 😅

i am on the fence abou the changes to savage axe/spinning axe.
i liked the hold inputs because it allows better hitzone control, while in world a lot of hits were "wasted" in bad places.
on the other hand the change of spining not taking energy is good but it being lost on morph really makes it feel a bit clunky, on top of that you cant even use the wire dash without losing the buff.
so... yeah... around 50/50 i guess...

useless since cpp / axe hopper have good cooldowns. maybe save it for a class that gets robbed badly with wirebug moves like sns.

Hyper armor is just immunity to knockback/hitreaction. You will receive the damage. Im unsure if it has some damage reduction though

There are only "Impact phials" and "Power Element Phials".
Impact adds KO damage and can be boosted by Artillery.
Power Element just deals more damage, given that the monster has a big elemental weakness

i cant charge my sword, im doing everything correctly but the name says condensed axe and not sword, i see the weapon is charged, shinning red, but once i switch to sword mode its gone again
You probably have the wrong Switch Skill. You have to change it to the sword one.

for the attack > charge blade > spinning attack I cannot jump (dodge) left or right. can someone explain what I might be doing wrong.
the direction is relative to the way your character is facing, not the camera. you have to be pressing the direction that would be left or right for your avatar not the screen itself. it took me a while to figure this out too
@@daddysnake5250 What was happening is that I simply turn that direction. As if I wasn't "locked on" to the target. I was turning right or left.
I use keyboard and I can not get it to work. I can not understand how to charge my shield or sword. I am genuinely confused. I have only ever played one weapon and I was like ''hey, let's give charge blade a try''.
Base keybind for keyboard is horrible, for all weapons.
I am using
Ctrl for Guard
Q for Silkbind
To store phials: Ctrl+Right click
To charge shield: R+L click (click at the same time) 3 times, Ctrl when you see your shield starts attaching)
To charge sword: Have a charged shield, Ctrl+Right click, hold Left click and release at right timing
I tried CB today with guard 5 and guard up 3, is it normal to still get hit when I use counter peak performance? Or is the timing stricter than guard pointing?
counter peak performance can only block ONE hit and the blocking frames last until your shield reengages back to normal, which is also exactly when you block something. otherwise all i can really see here is that you didnt block in the right direction

Maybe you should watch the whole video before you comment, not is Ready stance always up. & it's not part of base movement. It's more optimal if you have 3 wirebugs. 16:55.
