    - The conversion rate of phials into Shield Boost duration is I believe 30 seconds per, to a maximum of 2 minutes 30 seconds? So it's not quite as easy as 'just make sure you put one phial into the shield occasionally', because you'd be doing that a lot, compared to once in a while stocking a red charge and boosting with all 5.
    - Artillery affects specifically Impact phials and not Elemental phials and should be utilized appropriately and not generically.
    - Load Shells doesn't boost your phial count at all and hasn't since 4U; in this game it instead makes it so using a yellow charge to stock phials will charge all 5 instead of just 3. Still exceptionally powerful and absolutely a must-have if you're playing in basically any way but Condensed Spinning Slash, but doesn't actually give you a 6th phial or anything. Important to clarify since what it does isn't necessarily obvious at first.
    - Critical Element is okay, but only really for specifically elemental builds using axe mode; phials cannot crit, therefore if you're using, say, a lot of Ultras, it gets a lot worse very quickly because it cannot affect your highest damaging moves.
    - Critical Boost and Weakness Exploit are still as brokenly powerful as always but can maybe be bumped down one or two slots more than average on the priority list of you're using phials for the above reasons. Phial focused playstyles will still perform melee attacks and thus get value out of crit, of course, but if you're genuinely just hitting the Ultra button over and over, don't bust your own ass if you can't fit 3/3 of both of these on your build.
    - Attack Boost always matters, but it matters significantly more for Impact phial playstyles, because Impact bursts actually scale to your raw attack value, which means all forms of attack scaling become much more valuable. Elemental phials obviously run off your element and all of that applies for elemental scaling for them instead.
Also... I assume this guide is meant for Base Rise players starting because the game's out on new consoles, and that's why Air Dash, Ready Stance and Firing Pin don't appear at all? For completion's sake (and my own powerful OCD) I'm just gonna jot some stuff down in case anyone is here while playing the expansion already though:
    - Phial Follow-up: Firing Pin replaces the normal small phial bursts that appear when attacking using a shield-charged Thrust or a sword attack while your sword is charged. Instead of an instant, small burst, the electrical effect will instead linger and stick on the monster; this can be attacked with similar moves repeatedly to 'stack' the effect, causing the electricity particles to grow in size, to a maximum around I believe 7 hits. Left on its own, this will ultimately fizzle and do nothing; however, touching the electricity with your Axe mode during any attack animation will cause it to burst, dealing significantly more damage than the regular Phial Follow-up bursts do. This ends up dealing significantly more damage than the regular version of the switch skill you start out with and is highly recommended if you utilize a playstyle that consistently switches between sword and axe attacks.
    - Ready Stance replaces Counter Peak Performance or Axe Hopper as your Silkbind plus Right Button attack. You very quickly cancel whatever animation you are doing to enter a guarding state in whatever direction you input. This guard is slightly weaker than normal, and far from the Absolutely Perfect Block that Peak Performance grants; however, what's important to note is that unlike Peak Performance, this does not technically put you in sword mode, as long as you do not suffer a sufficiently large guard reaction from blocking an attack big enough to knock you backwards. This is a lot of jargon to say, this move allows you to block with the shield without sacrificing a Condensed Spinning Slash charge if you have one, allowing you to maintain a charge with your axe even after defending yourself. This move can also combo directly into the second attack of the Elemental Burst combo if you remain stationary on the left stick and press the Right Button, and its wirebug cost is not only 1, but has an exceptionally fast cooldown, meaning with smart play, you can utilize it to both defend yourself and loop your strongest attacks if you are using a charged axe playstyle.
    - Air Dash replaces Advancing Morph as your Silkbind plus Top Button option. Instead of advancing purely forward, you do a very swift step forward followed by a leap straight up. Unlike Axe Hopper, this cannot combo into an Ultra Elemental Discharge; your only options are to do a basic chop, a unique Phial Discharge which causes you to ride the recoil and dash opposite the direction you attack, or to land normally. What's special about this attack is the combination of having super armor during the ascent, and the surprisingly powerful two-hit swing with the axe that you do during it, which can be utilized with Condensed Spinning Slash to deal competitive damage while powering through monster attacks. It isn't invincibility, you will still take damage, and can easily be killed during this move, but it makes for an incredibly reliable and safe option for dealing consistent damage through difficult-to-manage attacks, and is absolutely incredible in certain circumstances in the expansion postgame, wherein maybe getting hit isn't all that bad if it gives you a status ailment that benefits you in the long run. Air Dash Spinning Axe is a drug I highly recommend to anyone who doesn't find it too repetitive.

Thanks for the VERY extensive write-up. I added the Load Shells correction + attack/elemental tidbit into corrections in the Pinned Post. Also you're correct. The guide is meant specifically for LR/HR (base Rise). I didn't want to add TOO much into one video and figured I could keep the two separate as I felt MR CB would have more to talk about especially because Switch Skill Swaps and etc.
Also have you ever considered writing/making a guide? Respectfully I feel you would make a great one :)

Also another advanced tip that can make the UED spam playstyle much easier on smaller or faster monsters: You can use advanced morph, not only as a gap closer, but as a reposition tool to put yourself out of danger after a Counter Peak performance that might get punished if you were to UED or AED. Even more so.. if you use Advancing morph and position yourself to the side or the back of the monster.. immediately after it you can tilt your left stick to any desired direction, even backwards, and press the combo buttons for a fast turn UED/AED punish

The essentials are there to get the whole idea of how to use the weapon, and you focused on something that a lot of guides forget to explain about, which is the fact that this weapon has a FLOW. It has the perfect pace, is informative and doesnt waste time with unneccessary things and repetitions, shows actual gameplay snipplets instead of hanging out in the training area 24/7 and utilized good camera placements like comparrison shots and birdseyeviews.
All the other tutorials should take notes from this video here.

A week late to replying to this but thank you so much for the kind words. To this day I feel that this is my best crafted and planned weapon guide out of all the videos I've made for Monster Hunter. I don't think it's the best guide, but to my personal ability I can say with confidence it's something I'm the most proud of.
For anyone curious, I used the offset camera mod on PC in order to take those stationary bird's eye view shots. I would say this probably sets my guide apart from other guides the most as this isn't something you can do by normal means. I'm hoping we get a similar mod available for when MH Wilds comes out. Would love to be able to do similar shots if and whenever necessary.
I know I haven't really made any MH-videos/shorts lately, but as we get closer to Wilds that will for sure change. Hoping to make the next MH video worthy of yours and other people's attention

  • @jeffreyhymas6803
    @jeffreyhymas6803 ปีที่แล้ว +10

Couple of things probably worth mentioning
Elements Phials aren't affected by Artillery and don't contribute to knockout making slugger useless on them.
Unless something has changed Critical Element is almost useless in Rise and should never be prioritized over the normal Attack/Affinity/Defense skills, and of course the Elemental Attack boost skills are obviously super important for elemental CB
Focus and Load Shells are a massive over investment, it's usually best to pick one or the other. Load Shells only takes two levels, so it's kind of nice vs Focus which needs three, but Focus helps a little with the charge slash.

Description is updated with the proper Time Stamps for anyone that wants easy referencing! Music tracks also updated as well :)
    == CORRECTION ==
Load shells - does not increase phial count but makes it so you can gain 5 phials from yellow gauge.
Crit Boost/Crit Element/Crit Eye - Phials do not benefit from crits so AED/UED spamming will not really benefit
Focus vs Load Shells - It's overkill to have both. Load shells should be priority over focus.
Shield Boost Refreshing - I say you need at least one phial to refresh (which is true), but obviously the more phials you have, the longer the shield will stay up
Attack Boost vs Element - Distinction for element decos should be made. Attack boost will benefit both but more so for impact. Build elemental up decos into your set if you're running elemental phials
Artillery - only buffs impact phials, NOT elemental phials
Sorry guys! My mistakes are usually from going off of old knowledge but I should be more careful about testing meticulously before making putting it into the guide. I'll try to be extra careful but thank you for understanding and for helping me correct the misinformation!

Do you see CB as a pure solo player weapon?
In the group I mostly played in was one guy who loved to play CB but rage quitted many many times because he was hit by attacks from other people in the group which triggered his guard points and so disturbed his combos. Later on he meant that he'll only play CB in the future when he plays alone.
I myself can't really work with guard points as I'm not skilled enough to reliable trigger these, same like the small I-frames while rolling to roll through a roar. I mostly played CB with the "Pizza cutter"-Build when someone showed it first at the start of Sunbreak. Now my wife and I play MH together and I just build a set after game8 with the Chaos magala CB, she plays LS so she'll have a pretty long reach and will probably hit me many times XD

    • @NightsideGaming
      @NightsideGaming  ปีที่แล้ว

Sorry for the late reply! I've been on a BIG hiatus. I think it works primarily as a solo weapon but with a bit of coordination it can still work in MP. I think in that instance people just kind of need to determine where they want/need to stand (i.e. hammer/CB on head, LS on tail etc etc).
Pizza Cutter would probably work better in MP though. GP's can be tough for sure. They take a lot of practice but they can be beneficial! Also if you can, try slotting in flinch free. I myself am a LS main and make it my MP mission to be wary of where people are standing around me, but when everyone in the group as flinch free, it allows me to go ham without having to worry. Makes MP hunts for everyone SUPER comfy

Don't worry. My wife plays LS as I said and when I played Hammer I already told her multiple times that she as LS should fokus more on Tails or Wings and not on the head, she replied that in most cases only the head gave her orange numbers and tail only white. Most of the time I play LBG so it doesn't disturb me that much xD Tried the Pizza Cutter build and for easier/smaller monsters it works kinda good, but with endgame content I most comfortably play with LBG because I'm not that good of a player to constantly dodge or guard right to not get hit. We still not yet got primordial Malzeno down xD

Counter peak performance (CPP) will be your best friend to guard point while getting full phial reload. It also allows for instant sword boost/shield boost

If you don’t have the sword icon at all it means you have the wrong switch skill on. Make sure your switch skill is on condensed elemental slash.

yo buddy! Good video not gonna lie, but ist important to say that the Explosions CAN'T Crit. So Crit Boost Crit Eye etc is only a must have when playing mostly with Sword Mode or Chainsaw mode. But overall a very good Video.
Tip: Bloodrite is broken and Burst as well

Thanks! Also yeah I totally overlooked the phials not causing crits. Adding it to the edit's page.

Replaying Rise right now, so that is why i am here a year late watching this video. However, after getting to the Armor Skills section of the guide, it is kind of painfully obvious that Nightside is not a Charge Blade main, as there are a lot of mistakes in this part of the guide.
Load Shells does not add an extra phial to CB. It simply allows you to fill all 5 phials with yellow charge instead of red, effectively cutting the time it take to fill phials in half.
This means that Focus is nearly useless on CB if you have Load Shells, as it only takes one charged double slash +spinning slash to get to yellow phials and fill your phials up, even without Focus.
Artillery is only useful for impact phials and has no benefit for elemental phials.
You also failed to mention Evade Extender, which in my experience, is possibly the most useful Armor Skill of all for Charge Blade, allowing you to basically always stay both safe and aggressive because of the massive mobility boost. It also allows you to reposition for aiming UAD's much quicker, making sure that you never waste an opening.
Constitution is also not necessary at all. I never use this skill, and even when spamming guard and evade, i have never once ran out of stamina. Its really really really hard to run out of stamina, and i would never want to waste 3-5 skill slots on this. The Guard skill will take care of reducing stamina cost of guarding.
And for anyone playing on PC with Keyboard/Mouse, make sure you go into your keybinds and set keybind buttons for using Shield Thrust/AED (Its listed as Multi-Button Action Mounted Punisher inside the keybinds), as well as a keybind for your wirebug skills. This makes a HUGE difference in making the weapon simpler to use and learn. It reduces the amount of button combinations you have to use overall, and also reduces the chances that you make a mistake when trying to use a certain move. The keybind for shield thrust especially is great for charge blade as you will use it a lot, both to combo with your sword, and to enter charge mode to charge your sword/shield or transition into UED. The best combo to use in sword mode is attack > attack > shield thrust > repeat. The shield thrust animation cancels and allows you to repeat the combo very very fast to do very good dps in sword mode. And that is why keybinding shield thrust is so important. Otherwise you run the risk of accidentally messing up your shield thrust and slowing down your combo or taking a hit because you have to spam these inputs so often. I personally keybound shield thrust to E, and my wirebug skills to my side mouse buttons. These Multi-Button Action keybinds are great for all weapons, but especially for charge blade and longsword as they probably use them the most.

Hi. I made a pinned comment explaining that I made mistakes many of which was based off of either old knowledge or just flat out mistakes. I dont agree with some skills you mentioned but I also see your points. If I make another guide for CB in the future I’ll make sure to test meticulously maybe consult other CB mains before making another guide. Thanks for the feedback. I want to make sure I do these weapons justice.
If it’s any consolation this guide is probably the best produced video out of the other stuff I made but for sure will make sure triple my stuff before making a guide

@@NightsideGaming I didn't mean to make it sound like i was shitting all over your guide. Most of the stuff in this guide is great, especially for beginners. But there were just a few things that it seemed you assumed rather than knew from experience.

All good. I didn’t take any offense and appreciate the feedback. Only way I’ll get better is if people tell me what I can do to improve in addition to self-critiquing my own work

are you talking about spinning axe slash? If so it’s in the guide including how the attacks work. I don’t go into damage numbers and what works best with what though. I feel that’s something I’m not knowledgeable to explain to people

Some advice for newbies. This weapon are like the easiest to master while it may be intimidating to learn so don't worry about the combos, just learn the basic moves and you should be good to go!

CB feels so unrewarding in rise compared to world. In world all the extra upkeep and perfect timing CB requires was rewarded with massive damage output and incredible defense to the point people would say a skilled player was OP. In Rise of feels like you are just working harder for no real benefit. I just started using hunting horn instead and it's like quality of life went up.

    • @protectous244

In rise I have like 40 hours on cb, and 2 on hh. Using the same tier gear fighting the same monster I finish quicker and take less damage with hh. While it's not empirical data, it's proof enough for me. CB is not an effective weapon in rise compared to others. The upkeep on sword and shield buffs and long animation times just kills it. I mean if you try hard enough you can make anything work, but yeah.

I think the general consensus for most CB vets was that CB did not feel good to play in Rise. In SB it feels a tad better at least but even then... It's still a damn fun weapon to play but how I wish I could relive 4U glory days
