As a food technologist myself, i sometimes find it hard to explain what i do at work, people would just think that we're chefs. This vid brought some understanding of the technicalities of the industry. Thanks tsl

As a student of BS Food Technology, I can say that this video really help other people to understand that food technologists are more than just a "cook" because we focus more on the manufacturing, engineering and the chemistry of the foods.
hi! i’m a senior and i really want to study food technology but what’s holding me back is the “chemistry” part of it which i know is a lot, but can i ask if the chem part of it is heavy on maths, and is it hard? i really hope u can answer, thank you!
@@jmarais Hello sorry for the late reply. It actually depends on the curriculum of the university that you're going to attend to. But most parts that you're going to tackle on Chemistry classes are already been discussed on your high school or senior high school classes such as, Molecular Formula, Periodic Tablle of Elements, Organic Chemistry etc. For me, it is not that hard (slight) because I'm fascinated by how Chemistry works and how it is applied into our society especially in foods. Hope this answer your questions!

@@Noorfatima061 if youre enrolling in this course, you probably cook a little. but most of the time during the labs, whenever you cook food, the objective is actually to evaluate the food, either by its processing, texture, etc. Culinary ≠ food tech

Can say as a food tech that the first two tasks given is very similar to what we do on a daily basis. The last task however seems relatively foreign to me but its seems really cool. Thank you TSL for covering this job and role!

Do you think Food Technology is a satisfying job for most? And is the pay well? Currently, I'm a business administration student, but I feel like food science and technology would be a better route for me, as I am very interested in nutrition and the food industry; I'm also great at math. However, I am slightly concerned about the chemistry part; I am in a challenging school, and I remember struggling in chemistry in high school. I know I can get through it if I put my mind to it, but I'd just like to know how rigorous it typically is.
Overall, would it be worth switching to? I want to pursue a career that I enjoy, which also provides financial stability and allows me to live a comfortable lifestyle.

A question for those Food Technologist out there: Would I need to go to grad school in food science to land a food tech job? I have a BS in Chemical Engineering (Biochemical Concentration)
Not really, but it would be a great help in pursuing this job if you have the necessary core and major subjects under food science and technology programs. I have colleagues who graduated BS ChE who are in RnD, QA, Productions in food company.
infact i read once that foodtech jobs could be replaced by chemistry students

Completed graduation in food technology from india...here , no jobs 😢. very passionate ,but due to financial constraints and language barrier , not able to seek outside of my country.

The problem with food technologists is that you care only about making the product for the industry. As a food scientist myself i have to say that food technology is only a tiny part of food science. We do food microbiology, biotechnology, human physiology, toxicity, molecular traceability, food engineering, processing and maintenance of by-products etc. Your field is very limited.
