As a hospital-based Speech Therapist I'm impressed at how Xenia handled the sessions with the patients even though it was her first time and only having undergone a day's training! For most people it would have been pretty daunting but she handled it professionally. Thanks TheSmartLocal for raising more awareness of our profession and for making such entertaining videos!
Teared while watching this. Honestly didn't know our day to day reading and talking would be so difficult for others. And huge respect for those patients trying so hard to get back what they lost.
Honestly, as a student studying occupational therapy now, Xenia would be an amazing therapist if she weren't a host at TSL!! She's so patient and did so well with all the prompting and most importantly, the rapport building with all the patients! :")
my heart really goes out to Anthony. i get that feeling of frustration whenever i’m not able to do something properly. but i have to say, his attitude is AMAZING 🤩
Patient Anthony hits the string of my heart! He was an English teacher... It must be so hard and frustrating for him to not be 'professionally' as he was.
I’m currently training to be an SLT and watching this video makes me so happy that the SLT profession is gaining more love and recognition. Xenia is a natural!
Great episode! My favourite series. Hope to see Social Worker for a day soon too! During the Covid period, social workers are also behind the scenes heroes, whether in the medical field or in the community, supporting families and individuals who are struggling through this period of time. They are so underrated but they do so much for the people. Hope to raise awareness for social workers, to let people know that they are not volunteers or just "knocking on doors".
Xenia did such an amazing job at being a speech therapist, especially being her first time. I’m so proud of her patience with the clients! (I am a speech therapist)
Y'all doing a good job bringing awareness to such matters. I hope you can look into being a Special Education Teacher and make the public more aware of children with special needs too (:
Not sure if its a good idea because children themselves are not of consenting age .. But then again since sg's psych scene isnt regulated, raising the awareness may help to increase the speed to a more regulated psych scene
Hi. I hope u can read this. Watching this video really made me wanted to cry. My teacher teaching me in p5 and left the school for this school, now I contacted her with her email, she will finish the course when I'm in s1 or s2. She was the nicest teacher in circuit breaker, help me when I had problems. I hope I can see her. Thanks for making this video. It really made me remember her
Brilliant presentation! A big 'thank you' from this viewer to Ms Chua et al. Also, huge 'thank you' to the patients who kindly agreed to be filmed. The footnotes were very helpful, as were the English subtitles. Ten out of ten plus a gold star!
this is just amazing! just had a 3-hour interprofessional session with the speech and language therapy students at uni already widened my knowledge about the roles of SLT and how the roles of dietitians and SLTs can overlap - sometimes (am a dietetic student hehe). Now being able to see how things are done in-person is just *claps hand Love it xx
That was fantastic. Everyone was really great including Xenia. They displayed a good balance of empathy warmth and professionalism. The word professional gets thrown around lot. But to me it means remaining calm, warm and empathetic and truly wanting the patient to reach their potential.
This was such a fun video! I'm studying speech therapy now and it can be so complex. It's amazing to see how well Xenia adapted with such little experience. She was so great with her patients too!
This is my first time watching Xenia and I'm really impressed with her! Her chinese skills are really good, considering it's less commonly used terms in a medical setting. I hope to see Xenia introduce more of such careers, like education, healthcare, special needs etc. she's so sweet and amazingly thoughtful!
It’s really a calling to be a medical staff. Likewise, I’m also Emotional when I saw the patients so determine to improve their speech. This hv taught me to be appreciative of what we hv... kudos TSL for educating us.
Try out being an Oral Health Therapist (OHT) for a day! Its a dental profession which not many are aware about, hope TSL can help in creating more awareness for this profession🙏🙏🙏
Just saw a video on Soon Huat Bak Kut Teh, where they primarily hire ex-convicts. However, the video was rather short and I was interested in knowing more about them. Could I trouble you to consider perhaps having a hired or fired episode at their premises, and sharing more of their personal stories. Thank you, and loved this video as well!
I used to go to speech therapy when I was a little kid! I didn’t go to a hospital though, I had a lady come to my house to do it. I can’t really remember it because I was so young. I actually moved countries before I finished and I never started it again so I still got some speech problems lol. I can’t pronounce the ‘th’ sound (I pronounce it like ‘f’) and I can’t pronounce ‘ball’ or ‘hall” (I pronounce it like ‘bowl’ and ‘hole’). It was awkward when I went to Japan and my host family asked me to teach my host sister how to pronounce ‘th’ so I had to fumble through trying to teach her when I can’t even do it myself lol. To be fair, my dad can’t pronounce the ‘th’ sound either so it’s fine.
Wah,Xenia really like quite good with "caring for ppl" stuff leh. But idk how it will pan out if go long term. Professionalism includes boundaries leh. She so enthu and chill, easy let patients think they can be friends. Especially Not wise if in mental health sector where broken vulnerable ppl r alr looking for connections subconsciously.
As someone aspiring to be in the healthcare sector, i find her ability to rapport build with patients amazing. That in itself can be such a difficult skill to master but it comes so naturally for her! Of course the knowledge of being able to draw the appropriate boundaries to maintain a good therapeutic relationship is important, but having that innate people-oriented ability is an asset for this line of profession
I am currently studying psychology and honestly this was such a rewarding video. I have learned so much today! Xenia did a great job and I am so proud of her. This episode was just awesome and so wholesome. Loved it
I KEPT CRYING IN THIS EPISODE! SO PROUD OF YOU XENIA!

That is sad.

Yessssss!!!!!
Xenia did a really amazing job! It's like she had it in her to be working in healthcare
The way Xenia answer the last patient when he inquires if higher is better reminded me of my family doctor. Positive reinforcement and encouragement.
Wow didn’t know a Speech Therapist does so much!
I’m currently training to be an SLT and watching this video makes me so happy that the SLT profession is gaining more love and recognition. Xenia is a natural!

Why am I crying while Xenia is doing the speech therapy? 😭😭😭
Studying speech therapy and I’m so happy TSL is educating people on what we do. It’s amazing. :)
I've never known what a speech therapist does until today. Thanks for highlighting this meaningful profession.
I was applying for uni and sort of considering speech therapist, glad to have this video :D

OMG thank you for this! I’m currently studying to become a ST and this has helped solidify my decision in this pathway!!!

Just come to SIT. One and only local autonomous university in SG that offer allied health degrees! Speech therapy is one of them!
So interesting! Good to see a different side of life where people struggle in things we take for granted. Hoping we appreciate what we have more
Try out being an Oral Health Therapist (OHT) for a day! Its a dental profession which not many are aware about, hope TSL can help in creating more awareness for this profession🙏🙏🙏
