They improved on the vibe by making it gloomier with the environmental lighting. Definitely an upgrade.

The models are great, but the lighting really kills this for me, and not the time-of-day change at the beginning everyone else is talking about. I can see the arguments for and against on that, but during the actual night scenes, my issue is that you can barely see in the remake. The original game used the classic blue lighting trick to simulate night without losing legibility, while the remake goes for a more realistic lighting that-while looking excellent on its own-makes it harder to tell what’s going on. The focus on realistic dark lighting instead of legibility is an issue with a lot of modern media, I’ve noticed. That said, the main reason I’m not happy with the remake is the music change. At least the Dead Space remake kept Jason Graves’s music and only had a new composer for added scenes, but this just replaces everything and none of it sounds even close to as intense or memorable as the original score. Feels like a really important component was lost with that. Also losing O’ Death is an absolute travesty. The new song’s great and I’d love it as a sequel theme, but for the original game, O’ Death is unbeatable. The revamped exploration is excellent, though. The cinematic camera of the original game is a nice idea that I think works better in cinematic games like this than other types of games, but full camera control is still preferable, imo. I think the best thing I can say for this remake is that the added extra ending teasing a sequel has me absolutely thrilled. Really excited to see where they could go with this in the future.
Jason Graves' work contributed alot to the original's identity, O' Death was the vibe of the game, the music during chases or other scenes built the tension up, the interview music at the end set up the mood to emphasize the depressing end of a nightmare. Remake completely missed all of that and offered something more generic and soulless.
On the camera differences - I agree, I think having an over-the-shoulder view makes navigation far easier. On the other hand it also seems they narrowed the field of view a lot in the remake, so instead of seeing an area and some characters standing in it, it's mostly just the two characters because the camera has been moved so close to them.
Maybe this is on Streamer mode. They had the same feature on The Quarry. Due to licensing agreements there is a separate streamer option so the game can be recorded without copywrite issues for content creators.

It’s the lighting, I think. The remake’s going for a realistic dark lighting, but the original used blue light to simulate darkness while still keeping things visible. Really wish people would start using blue light again since it seems like somewhat of a lost art nowadays.
In the original it gives off a dark cold snow storm vibe, you can tell it's windy & cold because the effect of the wind & more snowy..the remake gives off a much warmer temperature vibe with rarely any snow or windy effect, plus it doesn't look as creepy as the original sadly..I like the original feel better but, I do like the new look of the characters. Original had the best atmosphere while the remake has better looking characters
I like the new look. Becouse it makes more sence for me. It doesn't make sence for me that they are ariving at totaly Night in Blakwoods..... . The Quarry also started in the light of eveing.
90% of modern remasters completely fuck the original games atmosphere and intensional design elements for no reason. Especially if it's a horror remaster.
Because it now starts in the day and goes into night. You have to survive to see the dawn again. And they changed the camera as they can now do a full 360 camera where's in the original they couldn't for performance reasons. On PS5 they can now do proper third person and have good performance.
The original have more realistic characters than the remake where the characters looks lifeless and the colours are too orange and yellow making it less horror movie like. Big disapointment
The old version is so much better wtf. Makes it look like it’s in the day like resident evil 4. The blue night and foggy tone of the ps4 version is what a horror game should look like.
Wouldn’t surprise me if they wanted them to force the god rays just to show off the PS5’s capabilities. Cause there was no reason to change the lighting.
I think it's an overall visual upgrade but people should know the reason it's bright out is because they're just arriving to the cabin. Another thing is that they went for a more natural approach with lighting but it kinda hurts the original aesthetic in some ways
I like that in the original the characters would have idle animations when you weren’t doing anything but in the remake it looks like they just stand there which while small is a detail I appreciate when games have them.
Really enjoyed the remaster! Had a couple glitches here and there but nothing that pulled me out and I appreciated the expanded content. It’s like how I remember the original looking when it came out all those years ago
WTF?!? They ruined the lighting and removed the cinematic camera angles. It kills the atmosphere of the original game. Yeah, it looks like I'll be keeping my PS4 copy.
Never owned a PS4 but I loved this game to pieces when I watched a playthrough of it, always wanted to play it myself. Was so excited for the remaster porting to PC and this is what's happening... Sigh
Definitely prefer the blue vibe but the new one looks objectively better in basically all other ways. Indoors scenes look better in the new one by quite a bit, just wish the outdoors weren't more of a dusk colour tone
I’m actually ok with 30fps, especially considering it’s a cinematic game, closer to 24. And this time it’s stable, which is better imo then a very unstable 60fps performance from the original, which hardly hits 60 anyway. But they should provide options for performance mode for those who favor it on the remake at least.

Not only does the warm lighting ruin the game's atmosphere, it's also inconsistent from a storytelling point of view. Sam always arrives at the mountain at 9 p.m. And there's a sunset... In February... In Canada... At 9 p.m., the sun has long since set, folks!

The characters went from early 20's to late 40's in a blink lol
Wokeness
How the hell did they make it look this much worse.
Ps4 looks better and more atmospheric in most of these shots
It’s the lighting, I think. The remake’s going for a realistic dark lighting, but the original used blue light to simulate darkness while still keeping things visible. Really wish people would start using blue light again since it seems like somewhat of a lost art nowadays.
It's the yellow lighting making it look bad
Nope. I prefere PS5. I like the lightning level more than the PS4 Version. Because they are ariving at evening in Blackwoods not at night.
Nop
The old game darkness just set so much the mood for the game I totally don’t like the new look…
I like the new look. Becouse it makes more sence for me. It doesn't make sence for me that they are ariving at totaly Night in Blakwoods..... . The Quarry also started in the light of eveing.
@@darthsidious5992 different games. It doesn't have to make since, the original jus looks better as a horror game
@@OneKind-kj8tw Think about it. In winter it is still a little sunny at 5 or 6 am. And in that time they where ariving i guess??
@@darthsidious599I don't know where you live, but it's not light at all where I am at 5 or 6am in winter.
@@BerryNiceToMeetYou He meant PM because the games story takes place on the evening and night Until Dawn...
The yellow filter is superfluous in a horror game
the yellow filter also known as sunset?
uhm ...
were back in 2008 it seems
Wtf is the purpose of changing the color grading/lighting???
What in the hell is this new lighting? ☠️
Something called Daytime and Nightime
I could just tell from the thumbnail that the OG looks soo much better than the new one
The ps4 version looks better in a lot of shots.
The PS4 version runs at 60fps on PS5, but the PS5 remaster only runs at 30? Wtf
That's Unreal Engine 5 for you 🤣
And looks worse lol
Different engines mate
@@lukemorris9066That doesn't excuse the shitty frame rate.
That's because the ps4 version had an unlocked framerate, the ps5 remake is locked at 30fps.
In short, they put a clear filter and fattened up the characters.🤣
Oh no... why they always have to change the entire art direction on these remasters?
90% of modern remasters completely fuck the original games atmosphere and intensional design elements for no reason. Especially if it's a horror remaster.
They destroyed the artistic look of the first one WTF
I am so tired about this over the shoulder camera in modern horror games😴
The graphics definitely looks better, but why did they change the light, the camera and the atmosphere?
Because it now starts in the day and goes into night. You have to survive to see the dawn again. And they changed the camera as they can now do a full 360 camera where's in the original they couldn't for performance reasons. On PS5 they can now do proper third person and have good performance.
The color tone of ps4 version is way better and suitable than the one in ps5....
hahah
Original Better 👍I like the filter in the original better And I like the models better, How do they look in the original
2:42 a total downgrade. Wtf!? This remaster is a offense
I think the original looked better
The original have more realistic characters than the remake where the characters looks lifeless and the colours are too orange and yellow making it less horror movie like. Big disapointment
The old version is so much better wtf. Makes it look like it’s in the day like resident evil 4. The blue night and foggy tone of the ps4 version is what a horror game should look like.
hopefully modders will find a way to import models and ost from the og game
Wouldn’t surprise me if they wanted them to force the god rays just to show off the PS5’s capabilities.
Cause there was no reason to change the lighting.
I think it's an overall visual upgrade but people should know the reason it's bright out is because they're just arriving to the cabin. Another thing is that they went for a more natural approach with lighting but it kinda hurts the original aesthetic in some ways
That's not the only thing, they took away the cold snow storm windy effect in the atmosphere
That new yellow filter at 0:37 reminds me of Resident Evil 4
Classic example of art direction lost in translation over remasters / graphical remakes. Some changes made sense, most didn’t so it seems.
Lamentable remaster.
This just saved me 70 bucks..ill stick with the ps4 version since its 60pfs on ps5 😁
I like that in the original the characters would have idle animations when you weren’t doing anything but in the remake it looks like they just stand there which while small is a detail I appreciate when games have them.
Good thing they change lightning now we can differentiate between Day, Night, dawn, dusk
Really enjoyed the remaster! Had a couple glitches here and there but nothing that pulled me out and I appreciated the expanded content. It’s like how I remember the original looking when it came out all those years ago
I won't be buying it. Glad I waited. The original looks better. I mean come on Sony they should have released an update.
WTF?!? They ruined the lighting and removed the cinematic camera angles. It kills the atmosphere of the original game.
Yeah, it looks like I'll be keeping my PS4 copy.
This is not a simple remaster, its a complete graphical update it should be 40 dollar launch on PC not more

Looks like a downgrade to me, terrible camera, terrible choose icons, terrible lighting everything is terrible
Never owned a PS4 but I loved this game to pieces when I watched a playthrough of it, always wanted to play it myself. Was so excited for the remaster porting to PC and this is what's happening... Sigh
Me gusta más las versión de ps4
Definitely prefer the blue vibe but the new one looks objectively better in basically all other ways. Indoors scenes look better in the new one by quite a bit, just wish the outdoors weren't more of a dusk colour tone
Insane how much visual identity and atmosphere Until Dawn lost by removing the fixed cameras 😢
The PS5 version looks like they added a pumpkin spice filter
This means that the moves have started and now you need a PS5 PRO to run until Dawn at 60fps.😂😂😂😂😂
No this is just lazy developers.
@@ShMartinJothe remake removed whatever gameplay it had. And the music changes mess up the atmosphere
@@hymiecamp I still have yet to play it myself so I can’t fairly say for sure if the experience is deteriorated at all. But still, I am surprised at how much has been changed, if not only questioning the necessity of it at all.
@@ShMartinJo the prologue is 99% cutscene no exploring around I took like 3 steps to find the note then another cutscene. The qte have been reduced so really most of the gameplay is gone compared to what it had as it was. I feel like it is way more linear then what it was as well. The faces look off to me as well.
Yeah the darker blueish color looked better. That moon light in the winter night was epic.
2:42 destroyed the textures
8:40 destroyed the lighting (yellow is NOT scary!! Were not in 2008 where all games had a yellow/ greenish filter!!!)
1:20 destroyed the characters (why is she smiling so strangely and blinking like that?)
7:29 destroyed the cinematics and backgrounds
9:40 destroyed the fog
10:52 destroyed the shadows
well done Sony
another Concorde situation.. are only absolutely maniacs at sony???
they butchered it.. and now they want more money.
now we waiting Days gone remaster without rain, cold color correction and atmosphere.
This is what a demake looks like.
From what I understand the game uses RT and the devs might have tried to showcase that with the Tree shadows but to be honest they should have kept RT out and targeted 4k 60fps
The eyes of the remake character models look glassy and dead. It’s uncanny.
Not only does the warm lighting ruin the game's atmosphere, it's also inconsistent from a storytelling point of view. Sam always arrives at the mountain at 9 p.m. And there's a sunset... In February... In Canada... At 9 p.m., the sun has long since set, folks!
Graphically, the remake looks good, though I agree that completely changing the lighting was a strange choice.
I'm guessing they were trying to make it look like The Quarry? Unless they just outsourced the whole remake like the Arkham devs did.
Reminds me of the Silent Hill 1 Remaster from a number of years back. Sometimes "Better" graphics absolutely destroy the atmospheric tone of a game.
night to afternoon
Ps4: Until dawn
ps5: During dawn
I love the bluish atmosphere this orange illumination fucks everything up
I prefer much more the cold colour palette of the original. Guerrilla's DECIMA engine is much more interesting from a visual perspective, whereas Unreal Engine is so dull in comparison. Remake? Lmao, more like a "demake"... Skip the cash grab, people!
These sensless remakes are creatively bankrupt.
I personally think the "remake" looks worse. I may be more realistic, but it has completely stripped the art direction from the original. The character idle animations are also gone.
The lighting and atmosphere is way better in the original. Perhaps the lighting isn't technically superior, but it certainly is aesthetically speaking. It fits the tone of the game a lot more.
The new lighting is awful and the camera angle change completely misses the point of the OG game.
The graphical jump is huge no doubt but the original had better artistic direction. The remake not looking great despite having top notch tech I think is mostly down to artistic changes which feel like they were made just for the sake of change.
