Hi Marion I can assure you fuzzy logic is a real thing lol I’m a computer science engineer and my thesis subject was : fuzzy logic control!. Love your channel, humour and recipes. Keep up the good work !
I just cooked this for dinner and then your video popped up! Unfortunately my rice cooker doesn’t have the claypot function. I fry the sausages first to render the fat out then use it to fry soaked dried shrimp, mushrooms, garlic and the marinated chicken. Finally fry the rice, Add the sauce, and mushroom and shrimp soaking liquids. Fry till absorbed, then throw it all in the rice cooker. Adds lots of layers of umami- ness.
Love this Marion - I’ve got a fuzzy logic rice cooker too (a smaller 4 cook one) but struggle to know what to do in it - except just cooking plain or rice (which it’s damn good at). Would love more videos like this where you show both recipes & I’m sure a ton of your viewers have rice cookers, so this test kitchen concept is a winner. Cheers :)
I’ve been living in a hotel for an extended time and I got this for my cooking you can do anything in it! I’ve cooked chicken ground beef, regular bed, sweet potatoes, cooked vegetables and steamed too. It’s been so useful
I love the acting on this one. Marion has been using stovetop for a lot of videos and she always gets the best results. Suddenly, a stovetop is inconvenient, grains are not equally cooked, and also, you need someone else to let you know the food is boiling. I get she's trying to note the advantages of the rice cooker, but it was just so obvious. I appreciate the recipe tho, I'll be trying it soon, on my stovetop.
For cooking rice a good rice cooker does have the advantage of more even cooking as it heats from all sides. But I find uneven cooking for this would give more variety in texture, which is fun, might even try this with sticky rice.
I still use the rice cooker my parents got for wedding gift, almost 40 yrs ago! It only has one button. 🤣🤣 Amazing how there’s now one with clay pot option!
I got a National brand orange rice cooker for my 21st - I'm now 66. I gave it to my daughter a few years ago and it's still getting used weekly. I bought a new multicooker. I'd rather have the old one back lol

Made this with a Dutch oven for dinner tonight. It was tasty so thank you for the recipe. 👍The taste reminds me of the Chinese dim sum lotus wrapped chicken and rice.
Made it today on the stove top. It was so so good! I just had to add a little more water because my rice was still a little hard. Maybe because the chicken stock is thicker than regular water. :)
I just need it known... This is my GO TO recipe if I am taking food to a friend it is FANTASTIC !! DEFINATELY A FAMILY FAV!!! THANKS FOR DOING WHAT YOU DO !!
Ooh. I'm going to have to try this. Since I dont have the fancy claypot option with my rice cooker (only white rice, brown rice, steam, and slow cook), would you recommend brown rice option, considering that it will cook longer than white rice? (I just want the chicken to cook through.) Thank you for this recipe (and many other ones too!). ขอบคุณค่ะ!!
So I just tried a version of it, forgetting some ingredients because it was early in the morning here and I needed food for the day, and it turned out okay. I am a bit freaked out by the raw chicken in the rice cooker with a rice setting, so I decided to half-cook the chicken in the pan without marinating it...big mistake. Definitely need to marinade or season the chicken before cooking it no matter what! I used the brown rice setting (with thai jasmine rice), and it gave me that little brown crust in the bottom like a clay pot. Anyways, I will try 2 other versions soon and will let you know how they turn out...1 version using slow cooker of everything, then make using a rice setting with rice mixed into the same pot; and 1 version like how I made it today...but marinade the chicken and cook half way first, then brown rice setting.
Marion! As part of Marion’s Test Kitchen you should get your Mum to do a taste test to see which one she thinks is better without knowing which one is which!

The 'sar-po-fun' (claypot rice) got me hooked, and the first few minutes with that faux pas on the cooker and fuzzy logic got me committed. I've been doing wonders with my multi-cooker and just wanted to watch your recipe. Great job!
I’m glad I watch a lot of Marion so I have a lot of the ingredients she uses! I can make this whole dish right now because I have all the ingredients!!!!😂 I love this woman
I don't watch her much and I have all the ingredients just because I sometimes cook Chinese. These are just some of the most basic Chinese ingredients (except for the sausage obviously). ;) Which is cool because you can cook a lot of different delicious dishes with the Asian basics. You should check out Asian (especially Chinese) recipes from other cooks as well because you probably will have most ingredients. I like RecipeTin Eats a lot for example (she's Japanese-Australian).

@Marion's Kitchen Thanks Marion for all the inspiration and for this wonderful comparison between the rice cooker and the stovetop version. Since I live in the US, I'm not able to find the 10 cup rice cooker like you used so I had to settle for the 5.5 cup model. I just finished this recipe and I'm happy to report that it all fit with about an inch or two to spare after cooking and it browned nicely. Cook time was about 1hr and it turned out absolutely amazing. For those with gluten allergy, I used dry sherry instead of the shaohsing cooking wine. Can't wait to try this again except next time changing it up with some different ingredients.
What would be the equivalent of "clay pot" in any rice cooker? I have an Aroma rice cooker and I imagine there must be something similar in the options
I have not personally tried this particular recipe on an instant pot but I would think it could work as I’ve tried to cook other one pot rice meals before using the instant pot. I suggest using the sauté function of the instant pot to first stir fry the garlic and ginger separately to bring out their fragrance before adding the marinated mushroom and chicken to flash fry to sear its outsides for flavour before adding the rice and stock and switching to the rice cook function (chicken need not be fully cooked before adding the rice otherwise the chicken will be overcooked by the time the rice finishes cooking). Hope this helps 🤗.
Hi Marion I have a Panasonic rice cooker 10 cup capacity but it only has white rice, brown rice, quick cook and porridge settings. Do you think if I use the white rice setting to cook this it would still work? Thanks from a fan since Masterchef. Erika from Perth WA
KMarquart: All Asian chefs that I know of discard the woody mushroom foot. Years ago, I decided to test how long it would take to soften the stem. FOUR HOURS later, at a steady simmer, with water added as needed -- the woody stem was just as hard as when I started. That's when I learned that Asian chefs do know their business, and that's why they toss the stem away. If you have a compost pile, put it there... Regards from California
I made this recipe yesterday, and I have 3 questions--- 1. Are the 'cups' of rice measurements the smaller rice cooker measuring cups or or the standard 1-cup measures? (I'm in the USA) Obviously, the same question re: the 2 1/2 cups of liquid measurements that cooks the rice? 2. Do you remove the Lap Cheong sausage casings before slicing and adding to the pot? If so, what is the best way to remove them? 3. Does anyone know the default total cooking time for the the "ClayPot" setting on that particular Panasonic rice cooker that Marion used?
Thank you for the recipe! Would anyone happen to know if this would work with a cheap rice cooker (Aroma)? Or is it crucial to have one with different modes for everything?
You are gorgeous and funny as always . I can watch you all the day, I adore your mom and btw all the moms are the same . 😘😘😘 love you and be safe 😘🙏🏻❤️
For more umami to this dish, suggest to add a little dried shrimps if you are not allergic to it. Soak it in water to soften it before adding to the rice. The water can also be added as stock. Remember to cut back on chix stock or else the rice might get mushy
Love seeing these recipes using the rice cooker. I have this model but I’m unsure of what settings to use for what I’m cooking if it isn’t just rice. In fact, I haven’t even used it to cook rice yet, I’ve made other things . Mostly because of how fast it cooks things- especially the tougher meat cuts. They are done in an hour!
Hi Marion I made this in my tefal 10 in 1 rice cooker. It didn't have a setting like yours so I simply put it on rice setting. Perfect. Sadly I didn't have normal soya sauce, only the dark one, and I was worried it would be too strong, but luckily it was fine. I used bone in thighs as cheaper, but still yummy. I’ve been living in a hotel for an extended time and I got this for my cooking you can do anything in it! I’ve cooked chicken ground beef, regular bed, sweet potatoes, cooked vegetables and steamed too. It’s been so useful
Oh no metal spoon against the rice cooker pot 😳 what would Uncle Roger say
yeah omg......it is a test kitchen though ;)
that noise killed me, when the spoon was scratching the rice cooker pot
and about the rice lol
Uncle roger would tell her to wash the rice
Emotional damage!
Stovetop is okey, too expensive the rice cooker $250
JaviScript I totally agree
She was paid to recommend this rice cooker so obviously 🤷🏻♀️
For cooking rice a good rice cooker does have the advantage of more even cooking as it heats from all sides. But I find uneven cooking for this would give more variety in texture, which is fun, might even try this with sticky rice.
@@Redbert80 the "Keep warm" function is great too, a proper rice cooker is essential for people that do a lot of Asian cooking.
Does the rice cooker have a nonstick coating? I was kinda nervous watching you use the metal spoon to stir.
yes it is non stick. Me too was cringing a little when i heard the bottom being scratched lol
That is a lovely rice cooker. My favorite rice cooker ever. I had it for a very long time. It is a lovely appliance. Thanks for your delightful dishes. Yummy 😋
This cool trick of yours with the corn flour is standard practice in this recipe, along with the shao hsing wine
Top mum you got there!!!! salute from London just bought Yumasia bamboo rice cooker and loved you video!!! as spanish/Andalusian ill try to do traditional Arroz con marisco. finger crossed.
Made this with a Dutch oven for dinner tonight. It was tasty so thank you for the recipe. 👍The taste reminds me of the Chinese dim sum lotus wrapped chicken and rice.
Looks scrumptious! Do you have any instant pot recipes? Thanks
Made it today on the stove top. It was so so good! I just had to add a little more water because my rice was still a little hard. Maybe because the chicken stock is thicker than regular water. :)
lovely hand made bowls and little vessels. Nice touch to a good video
I just need it known... This is my GO TO recipe if I am taking food to a friend it is FANTASTIC !! DEFINATELY A FAMILY FAV!!! THANKS FOR DOING WHAT YOU DO !!
We're glad you and your family enjoyed this one, Courtney! -Team Marion's Kitchen
ขอบคุณค่ะ!!
I would be interested in knowing this as well
@@TheDesigneric Me too!!!!
Curious to know too 🤔
I'd really like to know too!!
Love your cooking vlog, all your ingredients not hard to get. All your foods looks very tasty
Marion! As part of Marion’s Test Kitchen you should get your Mum to do a taste test to see which one she thinks is better without knowing which one is which!
Great idea! Her mama is the culinary instructor!
👌😍
I think that would defeat the purpose of the ad since she would probably pick the clay pot :D
I stumbled into your cooking channel and really enjoy watching it. I learned a lot from you; the film quality is also great.
Marion...this recipe seriously so good! The convenience and ease for such a flavorful recipe and incorporating the rice cooker just made this a regular in the weekly rotation. Thank so much for this!
Your three year old is adorable and this dish looks absolutely yum! 🤭
Aw thank you! Glad you like this one :)
Hi Mom! Thanks for saving the day! ;) I was concerned the honey would cause it to burn. I like to add sugars near the end.
Marion, you're so lovely to watch and your channel is great. Cauli-laab is a new fav in my house (which is astounding w/my 2 adult, picky-eaters!). xx
What is a good substitute for the the pork sausages?
Going to make this for my Dad tomorrow. He is going to love it. I love you just bung some stuff into and a pot and press a button. Can't wait to make it
Marion - you know. I just love watching your channel. So much. And I don’t even cook!! It’s always so interesting!
Your Mum is THE BEST. ❤️❤️❤️ Please tell her how amazing she is !! She has a fan in Los Angeles!
I really love this video. I mean, I love all the recipes and the production that goes into every video on the channel, but this one shows such a sweet and funny side to cooking something that we can all make super easily.
These are just some of the most basic Chinese ingredients (except for the sausage obviously). ;)
Which is cool because you can cook a lot of different delicious dishes with the Asian basics.
You should check out Asian (especially Chinese) recipes from other cooks as well because you probably will have most ingredients. I like RecipeTin Eats a lot for example (she's Japanese-Australian).
@@Romy--- yes after cooking for so long I’ve found many recipes I can just make on spot. I’m slowly building my repertoire of recipes I know by heart. I haven’t heard if that one. I’ll check it out!
Omg, another yummy Recipe , All ingredients in one Dishes, love Chinese sausage, black mushroom so the chicken .I imagine what my grandma cook same like as you do , called " kiampong " , using nonstick rice cooker ..
I love Marion recepies so much
Thank you Marilou! So glad that you've been enjoying the recipes and videos :)
Does anyone know what the equivalent setup would be on an instant pot please?
I also would like to know!
Thank you Marion for your fun and interactive channel who includes the family...love. Have been a valued subscriber for over a year and I just had to make a comment. I particularly love this recipe and cooked it in my rice cooker this evening. It turned out better than expected, filled with flavour and is a lot better than fried rice lol. I am a rice kind of girl with leg lol. I added some lemon grass and spring onions to the mix and my family loved it. Now its time to invest in a larger rice cooker.
Thanks so much for your feedback Ole 🥰 We're glad that you enjoy our recipes! -Team Marion's Kitchen
If Mama Noi was any more adorable, I would just expire! Great recipe, great vid, as usual, Marion. Love all you do.😘😁⚘
Love your mom! Oh yes, and the recipe of course.
I have the same rice cooker!!!! Waiting for things to cook right now. I never knew about fuzzy logic rice cookers! Marion you've blown my mind! 🤯
Just cooked it in my cast iron Dutch oven, and perfecto! Thanks for another great recipe that works.
I now understand why you are such a lovely person… Because your mom is a lovely person too. Bless her and you!
I've been making a similar dish at home for some time now. I also add dried lily and use a cheap Aroma rice cooker from Costco. It is fantastic. Thanks;for showing this made two ways.
Thanks for sharing this delicious and easy recipe 😋 ❤
Thank yoooou, trying this one out this weekend!
please do more rice cooker meals!
I just made this tonight and it was delicious! Thankyou!! 10/10!!!
Glad you liked it!!
Great dish and great vid. Love the laid back vibe, almost "Sam The Cooking Guy" vibe with the banter and different takes etc. Loved it can't wat for another one.
We got the Panasonic rice cooker after seeing this video and I couldn’t wait to try out the recipe. So easy and worked just like your video!!! Thanks so much- it was delicious, so happy. Really love your videos.
I really love your laughing 🤣
The pot is boiling!! Happy birthday to Mama Noi again! 😊🙏
I really like that your cameraman is interacting with you and your mom sneaks into the kitchen to check on your cooking, like an instructor giving advice to her student! This makes the vlog very interesting. Hey, Mr. Cameraman, next time, perhaps you can have the coffee ready for Marion, just in case, she needs an energy booster while cooking. Did you get the hint, she said that you did not make it for her, haha!
so would I still be able to make this using my regular rice cooker without the clay pot function? :(
after reading some of the comments, it seems like yes, you can. it might be a little different.
@@fjp9 i actually tried it anyway! it is a bit mushier, i think next time i'll use less broth/cooking wine. and maybe less chicken too, 1.3 lbs of chicken is a LOT lol.
Saw this video pop up, and had to go straight out to an Asian grocer at the end of my street that I've never shopped at (that'll change), to buy everything I didn't have.
This meal is so delicious! Awesome recipe, thanks 👌
Please, more one-pot ideas.
I have a similar rice cooker and I make this "claypot" rice in it often. Why do I forget to select that function!? Need to try that next time.
I just bought a rice cooker but I don't have gas oven also I don't know much about cooking but this video has given me a good deal of confidence. I'll start cooking soon.
Hahahaha mum staring at the pot 😅
Well they both look just beautiful.
Have seen heaps of recipies in the Rice cookers lately, its almost like a airfryer for convenience and speed.
Thanks Marion, love your vids, there always fun and i love your sense of humour 😂❤❤
I love claypot chicken, the crunchy rice on the bottom of the pot is the best part.
It looks so yummy!!! Thank you!! May I ask if you have any suggestion for using instant pot? Like how long should I leave them in the instant pot?
First 3 rules of stove top rice: never open the lid, never open the lid, never open the lid.
What would be the equivalent of "clay pot" in any rice cooker? I have an Aroma rice cooker and I imagine there must be something similar in the options
Could you create some more rice cooker recipes?! Thank you!
I made this in my Panasonic sr df101 and used the white rice setting. Came out pretty good. Maybe slightly dry.
Just got my rice cooker today and your recipe was the first thing I made. It came out so good! Very delicious.
I have an instant pot - do you recommend doing this in that on the rice cooker function?
Yeah i needa know this too 😭
Same question :)
@Originals MLM archive oh definitely yes! That would be great too! Thanks for sharing 🤗
i made it in my cheap 12 dollar rice cooker and it turned out fine
I have a Zojirushi rice cooker and I love it. I have cooked banana bread in it and it turned out moist and fluffy
Awesome! Zojirushi is my ultimate dream rice cooker, but it's just too expensive for me now. Hopefully I can afford one in 5 years time.
This was so enjoyable to watch. Now I wanna get one of the rice cooker. Love it. 😍
Hi Marion
I have a Panasonic rice cooker 10 cup capacity but it only has white rice, brown rice, quick cook and porridge settings. Do you think if I use the white rice setting to cook this it would still work? Thanks from a fan since Masterchef. Erika from Perth WA
Question, would you use the mushrooms stems for anything ? I always feel bad about throwing away scraps and ends.
I wash them well and add them to homemade stock/broth mixes. I think it adds a really nice flavour
I actually love to eat the stems
I loooove your pink dutch ovens, so pretty!
I made this recipe yesterday, and I have 3 questions---
3. Does anyone know the default total cooking time for the the "ClayPot" setting on that particular Panasonic rice cooker that Marion used?
loved the recipe ... thank u !
Thank you for the recipe! Would anyone happen to know if this would work with a cheap rice cooker (Aroma)? Or is it crucial to have one with different modes for everything?
You are so cute. This dish looks yummy! We use the rice cooker for everything! We will definitely try this recipe.
My rice cooker is just basic on/off. How long should I cook it for?
Can I use it in normal rice cooker without those timer thing like clay pot?
always excellent - always as in usual ... Thank-you Marion ... anticipating more !!!
My mum would be shouting at you for opening the lid so often 😂
Hi Marion I made this in my tefal 10 in 1 rice cooker. It didn't have a setting like yours so I simply put it on rice setting. Perfect. Sadly I didn't have normal soya sauce, only the dark one, and I was worried it would be too strong, but luckily it was fine. I used bone in thighs as cheaper, but still yummy. Thank you, I love everything you do, and I am constantly experimenting with my rice cooker because it is so versatile. Far better than an air fryer. Hope to bump into you in bkk in January/ February. I will be making more videos for my TH-cam channel HarrysHappenings while there. I can't wait.
