In college, I somehow made fluffy custard bread with just a basic rice cooker. Adobo, buttered shrimps, curry, mung bean soup, and even managed to fry up some burger patties. I made my first spaghetti on that little trooper. Granted, I did lose 2 rice cookers both in the effort of frying bacon, it still amazes me how much you can get away with just a simple appliance. I guess necessity and constraint really do bring out creativity.

When I was working & living in Mandaluyong for several years, one dorm that I stayed doesn't allow any stoves. They only allow electric Kettle. I managed to cook pasta dishes from this like tuna pesto and aglio olio. And it helped me get by also I was able to sell some at the office. Thank you for this wonderful content. It goes to show that we should be resourceful and live simply by what we have.

Dont forget your protein para mas busog and matagal magutom.
      Egg for convenience and affordabilty,
Lean Meat (pork, beeff) for mejo "fancy" and walang basura (egg shells, and egg trays).
Fish, chicken would also add variety sa meal.
Yun ung "based" meal ko on top on that mga gulay (kamatis, sitaw, eggplant)
      Then rice.
More or less, P100-P150 magastos daily..
Yung focus ko kasi is 1} madali lang i prep, 2)wala maxadong kalat (at di mamabho ung basurahan), 3)affordable 4)healthy "true" food (kasi ako ang may gawa at hindi puro naka canned or preserved)
Ikaw? Ano ba ang budget mo?

When I had my OJT days, and it was my bday, we had 2 rice cookers in our boarding house since we were 4 in a room, we cooked spaghetti in those: we cooked the sauce in the 1st one and pasta in the other one 🤗❤️ It was really a great experience to me 😊❤

I had to pause because I absolutely love how you are mixing languages!
No idea what you are saying but it's the coolest experience!!!
I can literally feel my brain trying to keep focus between both and trying to recognize when you switch accents and cadence!!
It is the trippiest experience I've had yet!
Totally sober but I've got stroke and trauma brain changes
I swear this is like the mental difference between cooking Asian Pacific spicy and what the average boring westerner calls spicy 😂
    I can FEEL the difference!
This is so cool I had to geek out 😂
I'm watching this partially for me but also to pass on to my 22yr old cause him and his partner are planning on getting a rice cooker and I love mine but have not explored enough with it AND I just ran out of gas for the stove but I'll have to wait a week before I can refill (middle of nowhere and no car bites)
I'm too over stimulated to finish watching at midnight 30 but definitely tomorrow with my coffee
I don't know if my son and his partner will be able to follow along or not, he's American raised mostly in France and not as used to various accents or speed talking as I am 😂 and his partner is mixed UK/French but more raised in France...
    This will be an adventure!!!!
    Omg I'm all giddy 🤣🤣🤣

this is taglish, a mix of tagalog ang english, mostly used by members of upper class families because in the philippines english speaking skills are regarded as a status symbol that people use to segregate ourselves as smart/rich or dumb/poor. just a filipino thing

      Ooo awesome!
No wonder I was finding it easy and complicated all at once
I'm better at recognizing a few dialects of Chinese, Malaysian and Japanese because of dear friends and anime (I tried learning Mandarin and my Malaysian friend taught me to pronounce a lot of words, plus my oldest was teaching himself Japanese)
But I had a large Filipino population back when I was in the states and heard it often but stroke damage took away a lot of those memories
You explaining this brought back some of the memories (they hide)
Thank you so much for taking the time to explain! Sqweeee brain unlocked!

Love that these are still applicable to adult life! Ang daming pwede magawa sa rice cooker and fun bonding din siya with dormmates/siblings, we attempted to make a bibimbap pero masyado naparami 'yung kanin.

Are there any ex seminarians here?
We weren't allowed to bring rice cookers or gadgets but we can bring water heaters.
Yes, we cooked using water heater na nakalublob sa stainless na planggana. I'm not talking about them fancy electric kettles. Yung mumurahing water heater lang po na nilulublob sa timba/planggana. We didn't think about short circuiting the entire seminary compound. Mas nananaig ang gutom namin those times 😂

Oh man!- as soon as she started singing that “butterfly” song, it brought me back to my uni days- I used to have a hello kitty doll that played that song!🥰🥰

Hahaha omgggg. Naalala ko when I started living alone, nagdorm muna ako, bawal rin ibang appliances saamin, so I had to be resourceful. Sabaw? Sa ricecooker iluluto. Adobo? Ricecooker. Fried foods? Ricecooker. Pasta? Rice cooker. Hot water? Ricecooker. Hahaha. Nakakamiss lang. ❤😅

I'm a working adult but the place I'm staying doesnt have anything but a rice cooker, so this is very helpful.

Instead of buying LPG i cook my ulam first then cook rice afterwards. I survived my lowest days and learn time management and be organized thanks to my rice cooker. It is not working now but i still keep it as a memento/trophy.

I prep meals in ziplock bags and pour hot water or cook it days later.
It marinates well and tastes better too.

After enduring dorm life for two years, my roommates and I rented an apartment. I cooked all sorts of adobo - adobong may sabaw, adobong tuyo, adobong crispy. Cooking adobo has considerable - as you said - downtime, so grab your subject notes on your way to the kitchen. Just don't get sauce on them.
