So I think the takeaway here is that co-wash is an alternate form of moisturizing your hair not an alternate way to cleanse it. That' probably why people using Wen went bald. Rubbing the conditioner into the scalp. I co-washed for a while and because of scalp irritation, started using shampoo (helped a lot).
So true about putting conditioner on your scalp. I used to rub in deep conditioner and conditioner on my scalp and then rinse my hair but it made my scalp irritated. Thank you for so many informative and well researched videos.
It TOTALLY makes sense to me to wash my hair after three days. I can’t even go longer than three days without washing. But then my hair is very fine and curly-the buildup is real, even with minimal product. I just can’t imagine going longer than three days.
I really love this video alot. I think alot of people have issues with co washing because they're litterally using regular rinse out conditioners to cleanse their hair but I recommend anyone who wants to co-wash to use an actual co-wash cleanser that is formulated to lightly cleanse the hair and scalp because it won't build up on the strands like it would if you use a regular conditioner that's not meant for cleansing impurities and oils.
I love you how you debunk myths and make it clear that you don’t have to completely remove things but instead do these things correctly 👏🏽 TH-cam is misleading they have one bad experience and completely eliminate beneficial things. So glad I found this channel

I also use Zuresh Get it Wet to maintain moisture so I believe that you have to know what's good for your hair in order to get good results. So glad you teach us. Keep up the great videos.
I use carol’s daughter cleansing conditioner and same for me. My hair - and scalp both love it. My hair no longer feels stripped. I think using a cleansing conditioner (one actually *made* for cleaning) is different from using a regular conditioner and calling it ‘cleansing’
i cowash my hair in between shampoos... its been REALLY helping me with my dryness....It seems that now I shampoo either twice a month or every other week.
Wow I just finished several months of protective styling and my hair had so much residue after my second wash and go... but it was a cowash. It took 4 clarifying shampoo treatments to get my hair clean. I decided I would shampoo and then cowash on day 3, and then shampoo again on day 7. No more buildup and I swear my hair has grown in two weeks! Now I know why I looooove this channel thanks for the time and research you put in!

You are amazing.. you need ur own television show for natural hair. Your explanation is had research proof.. clear.. and and very easy to understand. Not to mention cartoon girl easy to watch. U make it relaxing to understand such a complex part of our body. Has a 2 year natural I wish I found your videos before I spent sooo much money on products. Thanks for making it so easy to understand 👍🏾
I appreciate this video. I stopped cowashing, as I did for the first 12 yrs of my life. Minus, yanno baby years. But after these last 7 years of not cowashing and waiting for one day to wash my hair, my hair breaks and never grows. So I'm back to cowashing. Crazy how everybodys hair reacts diff! I'm biracial with 3c/3b mix, if anyone is curious. I also use shampoo once a week and deep condition that day. I cowash every two days. I plan to do ACV clarifying once a month.
The closest I ever got to cowashing in the beginning of my natural hair journey was mixing a conditioner with my shampoo. Later on in my journey I would switch to use the coconut cowash from As I Am. Honestly, my head would be itchy after four or five days so I set up a routine to cowash biweekly and shampoo biweekly. Of course, that was when I was desperate to hold moisture in my color treated hair before I big chopped. I think I'll only cowash again once I get my routine on deck, or if I don't use heavy products.
I cowash every other week and end my washing with ACV. My hair is better than it’s ever been. I also don’t use leave in conditioners anymore. I had dry, brittle, tangled hair when I didn’t co wash and used leave ins.
Great Video! I think this is educational and your "scritching" method as well as information on how to keep the scalp clean is a great alternative to co-washing. Goodness knows that method NEVER worked for me. Now I know why. Thanks!
I used to put conditioner on my scalp and after I rinsed it out I used more conditioner😯 I experienced more hair growth during that time than I ever have in my life and my scalp was never irritated 🤔 what do you think about cleansing with ACV ?
Hi lovely! Thanks for the feature :) I always enjoy watching your videos because they're so informative. I just wish there were more frequent uploads 🙈😄 Lately I've been shampooing my hair more than usual and doing less co-washing every wash day. Great video!
You are absolutely correct! Before watching this video I put conditioner mixed with other ingredients on my hair and I added it to my scalp left it in overnight and now my scalp is itching.
Pease please do a video on protein treatments. If yes could you please cover the proper way to do them, how to know when you need one and the best type of protein for low porosity? Thanks much!!!
As a fellow co washer; I use a cleansing conditioner and do an ACV rinse 1 a month on my scalp; then I proceed to detangle with a regular conditioner or the same one. But I don’t put regular conditioner on my scalp; I put a CLEANSING CONDITIONER on my scalp!
I no longer co-wash. I use either ACV of coconut vinegar or Rhassoul clay. I do use DILUTED shampoo that is completely all natural - meaning I could drink it if I was forced to. In between washing, I use a honey + water rinse to rehydrate my hair.

China Dee exactly shampoo and conditioner has worked in the past, why now that same shampoo we used 15 years ago even with sulfates are so dying but as long as you condition afterwards it will be find, co washing made my scalp itchy and my hair felt coated
I never just use water for my cowash. I use distilled water and ACV which is a natural astringent and I add some essential oils to it sometime. then I apply conditioner let it sit and rinse. I never use my nails on my scalp. I'm tender headed and that scratching makes it worse. I love these videos!!!!!!
This video was very informative. I tried co-washing when I first started wearing my hair in its natural state. I didn't like it because I have overactive scalp that needs to be cleansed weekly. It just felt like there was gunk on my scalp. Also there was no noticeable difference in the moisture level of my hair. So now I just clean my hair with a sulfate-free shampoo, use a rinse out conditioner (usually from the same line of products so that I can maintain the pH levels) and deep condition for 20-30 minutes every wash day. Then I use the LOC or LCO method for styling. If necessary, around mid-week I add a lightweight lotion to add moisture.
I think the animation in the VIDEOS are very informative and visually interesting and I also think it's very helpful when engaging adults but definitely kids .
I needed this video demonstration so bad. I never heard of co-washing before and it's only now I keep hearing it from youtube since I'm looking to improve my hair health. I have no idea why, but I'm fascinated by videos like these, although I don't have textured hair at all. Perhaps I just like to know what other people with different kinds of hair do to take care of their hair. It's so interesting to compare with my hair. I would have never thought "washing" hair with conditioner could be a thing even. I don't even use any conditioner, just shampoo because if I "co-washed", my hair would be an absolute disaster after the first time I did it.
I no longer co wash. I have stuck to using one brand of products. jumping from brand to brand may also be the issue. I also use my conditioner first. leave a bit on the wash it out the. wash with shampoo twice
Kersha Beaver I tried doing that when I stared transitioning and when I tell you it might not help your hair in the long run. When you do the conditioner first your applying moisture in some way but then when you wash it with shampoo your basically rinsing out your moisture.
I actually put apple cider vinegar in my conditionner (something acidic) when i use conditionner to wash my hair, making sure it strips (??) and leave the least gunk as possible.
Also the product I use now keeps my hair moisturized for a week. I don’t add any products on top of it but castor oil. I used to have to moisturize my hair every day with my old products. It sucked so much lol.
I'm glad you made this video because I was considering co-washing this winter. Great advice. My question is what are your thoughts on No-Poo (specifically Deva Curls No-Poo). Is this a cleanser or co-wash? Can it be used in the scalp? Would I need to shampoo at some point?
Very important information, I learned something from this video, which I wish I was aware if earlier. Now I know and will not make this mistake again. Will continue following. Thank you for the knowledge Keep it coming.👍🏼
Hi. I've dropped cowashing too especially for my low porosity hair. But, how do i avoid conditioner on my scalp? It seems impossible for me at this point as i want the conditioner on my edges then when i pin it up for deep conditioning it will naturally spread to the roots and touch my scalp so... Its been touching mine my sclp is ok so it might not be entirely true for all persons. This is day 10 after washday and my scalp is still ok. I just make sure to wash my scalp thoroughly when rinsing my conditioner. Thank you
Ive bee co washing for 6 months and none of these cons has happened to me. N my hair has thrived greatly. My scalp is rarely dry or itches so im confused
Thank you so much for this video. I've been cowashing with Neutrogena's Triple Repair conditioner for a little while and all of a sudden certain spots of my scalp are very sensitive to the touch. I don't know if it's because of that product or not, but after this video I'll never use another conditioner on my scalp ever again. Shampoo, clay masks, and black soap only.
Green Beauty Channel ™ I did a clay mask to detox my scalp and hair and maybe 1-2 days later my scalp was fine. I was so happy. And thank you for all of your helpful videos.
Hi, so how often we need to co wash our hair ? And how often to shampoo our hair? For me I use my shampoo once a month ( every 4 weeks) and I co wash my hair the 1st, 2nd and 3rd weeks is it good?
This is exactly why I use an ACV rinse when I cowash. This actually works for me. But than again that's clarifying the scalp so maybe that's the reason I don't have issues lol
For there last couple of days I've been watching these videos and I'm like at an "Aawwwwww". As long as I can remember I would put conditioner on my hair and scalp. Thank you, I will not do that any more. You've shown me within in these few days in how to keep up with my hair then majority of videos I've watched that had me question should I continue with my natural journey. Thank you so much.
Hi, love your videos, very informative! So, I go the gym every morning and naturally my hair will sweat, does this add to product buildup and should I wash it daily ? What would you recommend?
Sweat is actually really good for your hair if its mixed with your sebum (a.k.a Acid Mantle) and its spread evenly on your hair strands. So after the gym, massage your scalp then scritch and preen your hair to spread it evenly on your hair strands. Here is a link to a video where I show you how to scritch your scalp and preen your hair - th-cam.com/video/CrEBRWkPJLM/w-d-xo.html And here is a link to a video that goes over what the acid mantle is - th-cam.com/video/5gb7mPM_J8E/w-d-xo.html
Please can you do a video to show us the truth about meniral oils or petroleums and what is the difference between them compare to other as a sealer?? And also the real problem with silicon and how to use silicon products correctly... Thank you 😊😊
To be honest I don't like the marketing tactic of calling a product a "Cleansing co-wash". That's an oxymoron. A product is either adding something to your hair or removing something from your hair. It can't do both. So, if you see something labeled "cleansing co-wash" treat it like a very mild cleanser that won't strip your hair. You will still need to use a clarifying shampoo once a while to remove built-up residue once a month or once every 5 to 6 weeks. I hope this is helpful :-)
Green Beauty Channel ™ thanks for the response. I agree that your hair needs to be thoroughly cleanse and one can not simply wash hair with cleansing conditioners only. honestly I use As I Am only about twice a month. the other week I use shampoo or clay. I will look into getting a moisturizing shampoo and phase out my As I am.
Clays as a cleanser is really good enough. I know it's hard to believe b/c shampoos have been marketed so well but clays like bentonite clay is very effective.
mango yes! when I started my healthy hair journey I switched from coconut oil to olive oil because I felt like it made my hair heavy and dry quicker and my scalp itch
i’ve learned so much thankyou! i thought my hair enjoyed cowashing but it is quite itchy and i don’t think i should continue with it since i work out a lot more now
Hello Green Beauty, I have a question. How about using silicone free conditioner to co-wash from scalp to ends? I agree like you said silicon is bad for the scalp. thank you. peace & blessing.
Hello Valeria, Conditioners are designed to deposit 'something(s)' on your hair. Without or without silicones, you should avoid putting a conditioner directly on your scalp. B/c what it deposits can eventually clog up your pores and cause problems. If you feel like you scalp is dry, try giving yourself scalp massages.
Green Beauty Channel ™ Thank you so much for clarifying this for me. I will start massaging my scalp since it does feel dry at times. I appreciate your reply. take care. God bless.
Oh my you mentioned my video. Wow thank you Green Beauty. It's such an honor. 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

Can you do a video on what are the good protective styles or styles that keeps us from touching our hair and it being protected in the winter ?
Thank you
Great video. very helpful.
Ive bee co washing for 6 months and none of these cons has happened to me. N my hair has thrived greatly. My scalp is rarely dry or itches so im confused
Do you ever wash your hair with a regular shampoo?
Same my scalp and hair are doing fine lol
I co wash once a week and shampoo once a month my scalp never inches
Who edits her videos??? Amazing
Those sensitive spots is a symptom of inflammation so good decision !
Green Beauty Channel ™ I did a clay mask to detox my scalp and hair and maybe 1-2 days later my scalp was fine. I was so happy. And thank you for all of your helpful videos.
I love your videos! So smart, straightforward and warm. ❤
Amazing video!!! Your videos are so helpful!!!! I noticed this was happening to me but I did not know why.
I really want to start cowashing in between shampooing which I do every 2 weeks I hate shampoo
Hi, so how often we need to co wash our hair ? And how often to shampoo our hair? For me I use my shampoo once a month ( every 4 weeks) and I co wash my hair the 1st, 2nd and 3rd weeks is it good?
You are so professional and informative I would love for you to give some tips on multitexture hair please 3b-4a thanks so much Blessings👍👍
Can you show a full wash day and style routine for low porosity hair!?? Please 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Another great video!! Thank you so much for keeping us informed!!!
Can you use a conditioner as like a detangling aid before you clarify your hair ? Please answer you're so informative
Sure you can. As long as you wash it out and not leave it in.
True your videos are always learn something and HELPFUL!!!! Thanks for that
Hi, love your videos, very informative!
Here is a link to a video where I show you how to scritch your scalp and preen your hair - th-cam.com/video/CrEBRWkPJLM/w-d-xo.html
And here is a link to a video that goes over what the acid mantle is - th-cam.com/video/5gb7mPM_J8E/w-d-xo.html
Please can you do a video to show us the truth about meniral oils or petroleums and what is the difference between them compare to other as a sealer??
And also the real problem with silicon and how to use silicon products correctly... Thank you 😊😊
what about cleansing co-washes that are different to the normal rinse out conditioners. these are said to have surfactants to cleanse your hair.
Natasha Nelson Yes this was my exact thought!
Green Beauty Channel ™ hi do you know if you did a video on this DIY mayonnaise treatment I got a feeling this is not very good for hair
Great video! Can you do one on the science of using clay over shampoo? Is clay really cleansing enough?
Clays as a cleanser is really good enough. I know it's hard to believe b/c shampoos have been marketed so well but clays like bentonite clay is very effective.
Can I Co wash natural hair everyday and do my wash routine on the weekend. My hair is 2in so I do wash n go
cowashing caused my set back and breakage. im too afraid to try it again
The trick is doing it once in a while not back to back. You have to shampoo/clarify your hair.
As always, this is a GREAT video! Lol! Love all the information! Thank you and keep on making these videos!
Thank You
Awesome video..thanks for the info....can you do a video on African black soap....especially the Dudu osun black soap
Yes that video will be uploaded soon !
is 2in1 bad ? I now have a bad bulid up after 1 year of only using 2in1 and also wash my hair with 2in1 once in 4 weeks .....what should I do now ?😭
Hi Green Beauty. This video was very informative.
Wow I loved this video! Your videos are SO helpful to me being that I am a new natural!
loving the animation.
Esto era justamente lo que estaba buscando sobre el co-washing, gracias me ayudó mucho
can you do a video on coconut oil being good or bad for different types of hair.
mango yes! when I started my healthy hair journey I switched from coconut oil to olive oil because I felt like it made my hair heavy and dry quicker and my scalp itch
yes, there will be a video upload on coconut oil very soon :-)
i’ve learned so much thankyou! i thought my hair enjoyed cowashing but it is quite itchy and i don’t think i should continue with it since i work out a lot more now
Hello Green Beauty, I have a question. How about using silicone free conditioner to co-wash from scalp to ends? I agree like you said silicon is bad for the scalp.
thank you. peace & blessing.
Hello Valeria,
Conditioners are designed to deposit 'something(s)' on your hair.
I appreciate your reply.
take care. God bless.
So are you saying it's a bad idea to put Jamaican castor oil products like SheaMoisture, on bald spots to help grow back hair?
Amazing video!!! Thank you for teaching us!
