What I learned after being a natural for 10 years:
1. Keep your scalp clean and healthy (ph 4.0) and avoid product buildup at all costs.
2. Keep your hair stretched
3. Never let your hair dry out
4. Avoid heat damage at all costs
5. Moisturize and seal the moisture in (LC, LO)
6. Avoid manipulating your hair and use long term protective hairstyles.
7. Use a shower filter
8. Avoid tension on your hair roots and on your edges.
9. Retain length by caring and protecting your ends
10. Sleep in a silk bonnet on a silk pillowcase.

God, you are just so smart! I've watch so many of your videos, and am constantly amazed by you intellect and diligence. You are truly an inspiration.
Brava! I never thought I would see the woman who would be able to convince me that natural hair was as beautiful as straightened hair. When I saw the models on your video I was stunned. I personally have never been able to grow my hair even to my shoulders for the past 20 years. I don’t know why I have been afflicted in this way but I have noticed that if I try to keep my hair natural it becomes completely and utterly unmanageable and it never seems to stop shrinking and drying.
Enough of me. I’m extremely impressed with your presentation with your command of the facts and with your style. The beauty of natural hair had completely eluded me until I saw your presentation. I find that I prefer it and of course I love everybody. I think I walk a little taller now because of what I’ve seen God bless you. I also desire you to have maximum success and happiness in your business and personal life. Keep going upward you’re taking the rest of us with you.

I am grateful for your videos. I have always watched but never subscribed.
So Glad I have found your channel. I think you have saved me and my daughters hair. We're on a healthy hair journey and this is far by the best channel yet.
I really appreciate that you talk about finding others with a similar hair type. I follow several people. There product ideas, give you more options and excellent advice on occasions. I just did my last big chop. Mines was to let go hair color. I earned my grays! It's been a month since the cut and my hair feels, so much better. It isn't nearly as dry, as with my previous color. I won't make that mistake again. And on the plus side my texture and feel, is much better. Keep making the videos, they inspire me!

This is my first time watching your videos. A lot of tubers have the porosity thing wrong. From watching your video, I found out that I have high porosity hair. Thanks to you I’ve learned my hair.
I can’t thank you enough for your videos, I big chopped a year ago and didn’t do my research. I watched so many of your videos as well as other natural youtubers and found myself feeling overwhelmed, anxious and thinking maybe I should go back to relaxing and just call it a day.
I’ve recently started re-watching your videos but with a different mindset (with encouragement from my fiancé) and I’m excited to give my hair a chance and start my healthy hair and scalp journey.

I can attest to how important it is to monitor your hair/scalp. I was having some crazy itching on my scalp, and I had no idea why, until I realized that my spritz was way too drying. It had apple cider vinegar AND lemon juice, and I was using multiple times a week, sometimes every day! I didn’t even seal it in with oil, so me and my high porosity self were just high and dry. Ridiculous... 😩
I switched it out with just aloe vera juice and rose water, and the itching went poof~

Another great video!! My youngest daughters' hair have definitely been a journey in the past 2 years after loc removal. But I've been very patient and keeping a journal via blogging. I know exactly what ingredients to avoid and what methods just don't cut it for her. I'm actually in the process of re-evaluating her current regimen and considering blowdrying on a cool setting using the tension method to avoid matting and tangles (not to straighten). Her hair is very tightly coiled and stretching the hair via braids, twists and banding isn't cutting it and I think her hair is suffering damage due to the tangles and matting which cam probably be avoided with a light blow-dry. Perfect video, perfect timing...certainly confirmation. Thx!
MyBabyGirlsCurls Hello, I can relate. I have a hair type that does not 'stretch' properly with simple braids or twist. So, I tend to relay mostly on protective styles. light blow-dry is a great method to turn to, especially for active children. Just make sure you put her hair into a style (preferable a protective style) right after so, you don't have to blow dry too often. No worries, as she gets older and her hair grows out. Your efforts will definitely pay off. As her hair grows, it will be trained to behave the way you want it to. Keep up the great work, your daughter will thank you later :-)

I always look forward to your videos. I was natural for 5 years and recently relaxed my hair. I'm ready to go back natural but not looking forward to the short stage of hair growth. It was nearly impossible to avoid knots because I couldn't protective style.
My biggest set back is having hand in hair syndrome . Can you help me with this ?
You're not the only one, many people have this "syndrome" when they first go natural. Why not, our hair is interesting and beautiful. But, no worries overtime you will get more use to your natural hair and stop playing with it so much

I need to start washing my hair more often cause I’m at a loss of what to do with it. I want to grow my hair out back to its original length and going natural has been hard for me because I never know what to use for it or how to style it because it’s short. So I just leave it in a ponytail.

My niece decided to go natural as a freshman in college but returned this summer with a weave because she was told it was a protective style for natural hair. I am concerned because I am seeing that she's losing her edges. How can I tell her a weave will cause alopecia, (balding,) caused by traction?

I believe I have alopecia, but I have not yet been diagnosed. Although late, I made a personal decision to "take the bull by the horn". I ended up doing the big chop. I have an upcoming appointment with a dermatologist, for a diagnosis, to know exactly what I'm dealing with. After the diagnosis, I would prefer to take on a natural approach in an effort to salvage and/or regrow my strands. I have about one month to go. While I wait, what would you suggest I do in terms of hair care?
I'm trying to figure out if my hair is going through the exogen stage, experiencing increased hair breakage due to a mild heat damage, or if I need a good protein treatment. Brief account of the heat damage. Got a trim in March ( this year). I informed the stylist that I had applied avocado butter and grapeseed oil to my hair. She reassured me they were HEAT PROTECTANTs.
She began flat ironing. No blowing drying or anything. I had just washed my hair and followed the loc method. I could hear SIZZLING SOUNDS ( similar to frying eggs). I stopped her more than 3 times. I was told my hair wasn't being fired and that I was hearing the products. My hair was put in a protective style immediately thereatfter. Don't ask me why she just didn't blow dry my hair and trim. Guess she wanted to see my length or something. But anyway, after a month in a half cornrows (natural hair) and half sengelese twist ( extensions) style.
I noticed my hair was breaking off more than usual. My hair would break off just from a simple rub and more some when finger detangling /comb detangling. I noticed slight thinning. I have extremely extremely thick hair. I'm high density. You can't see my scalp when fully dried.
I also had very very small section of my hair that would hang lower than the rest when wet or dry. . My hair normally shrinks 50 percents or more. That has also seemed to change slightly. I have no straight ends.
It's just the constant breakage and pieces of hanging curls. I have/had tighter curls. I got a another trim this month (MAY) from another stylist. BEST IN HOUSTON... btw, I'm considering purchasing the real protein treatment. Although I'm not sure if my hair needs a protein treatment. It's just breakage! Breakage!! Breakage!!!. ANY SUGGESTIONS FROM SOMEONE MORE KNOWLEDGEABLE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED! !!!! THANKS
im am 5 years natural, and I have had 3 setbacks, became product junky, follow some other regime, and I still have the same problem. the ends of my hair always break into balls. I am on my second order of your products, and overtime after protein treatment, I get breakage on my ends. My old hair dresser who analyze my hair said my hair is heathy even with the setbacks, but I can't seem to retain LENGTH! I trim, stretch, protect (with wigs and crochet braids). But one thing is for sure, I will never return to the creamy crack!!

I am new to natural hair. I decided to do the big chop because I was over my relaxed hair. Now I am utterly lost. I have no idea what hair type is. My hair is so short that I don't know how to figure it out at this length. I want to make sure that I am doing the right things because I want it to grow and be healthy. If i have a TWA or a fade, how much of this should I be concerned with right now. What are the most important things I should do until my hair grows out?

Second, I wanted to THANK YOU for all your amazing work, you do amazing things for all of us with all the researches and scientific explanations of how everything works. I found your channel as an amazing resource of inspiration and information too!
On the other hand, I wanted to see if you were available and/or able to give a little consultation/advice. I have basically watched all your videos on YT and it's a lot! Don't even know where to start 😭 The fact is that I am having terrible hair loss along with my hair isn't growing properly. (I know this because I can see it in my roots). I am Pita type of person. My hair is very straight and thin. My diet is vegan/raw foods and I prefer staying on the organic/natural side of life rather than the chemical/synthetic side.
I guess my question is; what kind of regimen would you do if you were having this issues? I started your onion and garlic recipe on my scalp yesterday.

I wash weekly and after two weeks per month so three times monthly but still have low sebum production. Should I use grease or oil or butters on my scalp weekly? I didn't understand the part you said about cleansing frequency. I try moisturizing my ends often but always end up with knots.
