You are amazing. Sad to say I'm 47, 10 years natural and still have not figured out my hair. I feel like I need to start over. I grateful to have found you. Keep it up!
I have low porosity hair and can't stand coconut oil. Tried the coconut oil recommendations in the video regarding coconut oil multiple times years ago and they didn't work. It's over used in tons of hair beauty products. I wish companies would stop putting coconut oil in everything because not everyone wants to buy products containing the oil. Plus, I think it's probably a cheap tactic companies use to fill their bottles without putting so much of better quality oils in the products.
Right. Coconuts produce more oil than other usual plants, so I always felt they used the cheap oils like coconut to get the most profit. And there are almost no options for people allergic to coconut.
Can you please do a video on GELS comparing the low and high Porosity. I’m sure many of us would love to hear the scientific facts on gels especially with wash and gos.
I've been natural for 20+ years (since college) and am so grateful for youtubers like GreenBeauty for breaking down porosity, density, etc. I was really trying to understand why my hair takes DAYS to dry if I add product. These tips have helped so much!
Omg, the way my 4c hair reacts to coconut oil, confirms my hair is low porosity. I will use it sparingly and when I can apply some heat. This video gives me hope as I get used to my twa stage. Happy healthy hair growth to all you naturals!
I noticed last week that my hair stayed wet all day when I put it in a bun and my scalp became super sensitive. With a little tea tree oil and a scalp massage it felt much better. I will be making sure to dry my hair thoroughly from now.

I've struggled with my hair for 29 years. I've went to a derm (fail). But hands down out of all the videos I have watched, all the hairstyle I went I have never been informed like I was watching this 11 min video. I don't know how many times people have recommended coconut oil and I have to explain to them it doesn't work on my hair and they look at me like I'm crazy! God blessed you!! this is the video I needed to see because I was just about give up on my hair a get a relaxer next week after six years of being natural.
This was great, I'm going to re-incorporate coconut oil (I had given up on it as well) into my regimen on wash day. It sat on top my hear and made it look ashy! Thanks so much, can't wait for Part II. :)
there will always be bandwagons..but not because there is, means the claims are false. Glad you pointed out the protein issue...however irrespective of how some oils are used, some hair just do not work the same way.. just as not all 'dry' skin folks have the same luck with a product geared towards that particular skin type. There are a number of oils my hair just do not like...coconut is one of them (even when I was in my relaxed state).
After searching lots of videos about low porosity finally I found a best video about it .Today I had got all my answer's thanks so much for making such a detailed video with pictures .
The moment I started using my blow dryer, steaming, and not using too much product, my hair is so much healthier. Not using heat really ruined my hair.
Gb. Would you say that someone who claims "coconut sensitivity" probably needs to clarify? and also incorporate using less and the shower cap tip I gave.
I know this is hella late...but I saw your question and just wanted to share something I observed from growing up in the Caribbean. I grew up in a country with a mix of africans and east Indians. Growing up our parents never used coconut oil on 4c hair like ours, becausel the oil would make hair dryer and more brittle. However the east Indians with straighter hair lived by using coconut oil in their hair.
@@shellym9504 I also grew up in the Caribbean and parents in my country used coconut oil with resemary since the baby is about1 month old. It helped with removing the cradle cap. Am talking about black people.
I’m so glad I found this . I’ve been sitting here avoiding products with coconut oil cause of these other youtubers talking about its a protein ... 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
OMG how intelligent is this youtuber? I'm so glad I found your channel! We can tell that SOO much research has gone into hair types! I'm going to binge watch every single video on your channel :D
This has been the most informative video on hair on you tube I have ever watched. You got straight to the rationale and point. You did talk about your aunt twice removed cat and didn't hype a product (I really appreciated that). Thank you
I am nearly in tears of joy now. For months I watched whilst near hand fulls of my nearly waist length hair would come out. It was brittle and stringy. Then I saw this video. I clarified, used a cotton t, paper towel, then just used coconut oil. 3 only 3 strands of hair came out. Thank you, TU, Thank you. Blessings to you.
Wow God is good, I just realized that I have low porosity and I've been looking for a good video and stumble upon this video from one of the most educational natural hair channels💓
I appreciate you getting to the bottom of Coconut oil. I just thought that my hair was rejecting it but when you broke it down, it made a lot of sense. Thank you!!!
Great video! I have found that using fractionated coconut oil, especially in the very cold winters that I live in, has worked better for me and my hair than regular coconut oil. Fractionated coconut oil is liquid at room temperature so I don't have to worry about it hardening up on me. I might switch back to regular coconut oil for the summer.
isn't natural coconut oil normally liquid at room temp? My mom bought real coconut oil from Ghana and it was completely liquid until put in the fridge. Then, when left outside for a bit, it liquified again. I believe the solid form is cold pressed(cooled quickly at low pressure and below freezing temperatures) to make it like that.
I was searching for such a comment. I too use fractionated on my low porosity hair and it’s great. The solid at room temperature variety is only useful to me in warm weather.
I'm low porosity with 4c hair and I've been using coconut oil for years before it became a thing with no problems. It's all about how you use it as you said in the video. For example living in a cold climate using coconut oil then going out in the cold is not a good idea. On the topic of protein everyone's hair needs protein. It's all about the strength of protein and often protein is used. It's so easy to get protein overload. Most products contain protein which people don't realise then they do a strong protein treatment thinking that they haven't done one. I love your real protein treatment.
I’ve learned that cream based products works for me. Oil heavy based items tends to weaken my hair. I still use oils but veeery lightly (Shea works best for me) and the occasional hair grease if needed.
I subbed to your channel. I didn't always have such hair struggles until I moved and have been on well water. My hair has become a nightmare to deal with and it started breaking. With well water, there is a build up due to the minerals, so that in conjunction to any styling products, my hair has become unruly, frizzy, dry and started breaking. I used to think my hair was high porosity, but now I know it's low porosity. And, it makes sense that heat helps relax the cuticle, because when I used some heating tools on my hair, I actually had less breakage. Thank you for this content.
Is it weird that my hair has both low & high porosity traits?? I'm so confused and don't know how to treat my hair properly according to it's true porosity type.
Girl! This has got to be the most informative videos I've seen in a LONG time. The animations were very helpful! I've been tweaking my regimen for about 8 years now, since I have pretty much all types, patterns, and textures in one head of hair, but I'm glad to see you've covered some critical findings I've discovered with my own journey! I wish I would have found you back then! But I'm very thankful you've put this info out in such a beautiful and professional way. Gorgeous video!I'm proud! 🍫🍫🍫
I’m definitely low porosity!! Washing with hard water doesn’t help :-(. I’ll get there though. It’s growing though. Thank God!! Extremely tight!! Ready to throw in the towel. Natural is such a challenge! You did such a wonderful job on your presentation. You get an A+
Some people just be CHATTIN! But your video was so informative, and overall nicely done from start to finish!! And your voice is so soothing girl I stayed to the very end!
I got the hooded dryer bonnet for Christmas & it really has completely changed deep conditioning for me my products truly penetrate my hair so much better !
Thank you soooo much for this video!! My twists started to feel hard and stiff after I applied my leave in conditioner and oil. I was wondering why because I've been using the same products for years and never had that problem until now.I knew it wasn't a protein overload because I don't really do protein treatments. My leave - in has hydrolyzed protein and that's all I need. I shampoo my hair every week but I guess I wasn't doing a proper job. Washing thick 4c Hair is work
something weird i do for my hair, but it helps tremendously! when i detangle, my hair performs SO MUCH BETTER when i have my heater AND humidifier on. probably because what you just said, heat and steam relaxes the cuticle. best to just detangle my hair in the shower, i suppose. but i hate wasting water, so i detangle outside of the bathroom.
Yup yup yup I am legit 200% low porosity. Every characteristics match. Electric conditoner caps or the ones that goes in microwaves are a great alternatives if you are can't afford or don't have room for the big expensive ones. Thank you very much Indeed for all the great and valuable information! You saved my hair journey one year ago!!😊👍🏾
I love your videos. I have low porosity and your videos are so educational. They make simple sense. Will be coming back for more education as I move forward on my hair journey.
Thank you for this useful video. Most of the low porosity characteristics fit me but I was treating my hair like it was high in porosity. Which explains the oily layer of coconut oil. I'd like to see a safe heat video because I've already put my hair through a lot and I don't want to add heat damage to the list
Why couldn't I have found you sooner..ugh It makes so much sense to hear you explain it, I went from no poo to co wash, I went from dying my hair to Henna..nothing helped, I just ordered this yesterday and excited..I have thinning hair but at one point, I had a full head of hair. I am not sure if its because I hit 51 and I can sense things changing with my hair... Praying this will stop the shedding and heal the breakage.
How often should I wash my low porosity hair? My Current regimen consist of me washing my hair every week and doing African threading and taking them down to do a protective style and re wash.
Wow I’m impressed with ya knowledge of our hair 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾l learn so much from ya. I’m doing the onion 🧅 juice twice weekly for hair growth I already seen results. Thanks for all your good work!
paper towel drying makes a huge difference. Also putting hair into twist after washing helps to dry faster, when you part you see water rolling off the scalp, you create more space for breeze to blow, after 30minutes, I separate the twists into half creating even more space for hair drying or do a bit of blowdrying.
loove your videos ! finally someone who approach hair with scientific explanation and doesn't mix up moisture/ hydration/nutrition♡♡♡ i m very interested in your last topic about coconut oil, could you do a video about it? my hair becomes stiff with it and i used under shower cap/ shower. on the other hand shea butter which is a hard texture works wonders. i always wondered why! also a topic about clay? thank you
I am so in love with this channel, every chance I get while I am at work and home I always log on. You have inspired me to start a youtube channel but I am not consistent at all...smile!
I am so confused now...I always thought I had a high porosity issue. But now after watching your videos about low/medium/high porosity I'm not exactly sure. All I know is that my hair frizzes easily, hard to manage, if I flat iron it and go out in humid weather the frizz and curl creep back in, and it's curly but I don't know the curl classification. Most of my top layer is prob medium coarse texture, they're gray. Most of my underneath hair is prob some what fine. I love your videos, they're very educational with real science.
I lovvvvvve your videos!! You should do a separate video on the misconceptions of coconut oils and just on oils in general. Your research and time and effort is greatly appreciated!!
I have great results using coconut oil in the variations of Caprylic/Capric Triglycerides and/or Fractionated without heat. The molecules in virgin coconut oil are too large to penetrate your hair and/or skin, before the hair/skin dries out. Btw, I'm not opposed to using heat. It's just that most of the time, I don't feel like sitting under my dryer.
This video really does describe my hair. I really need to use less product in my hair, so I don't have to clarify twice a month as a result of product build up.
I have low-normal porosity and LOVE the LOCmethod. Granted my hair may be slightly weighed down the first day and take hours to dry, but it gives me the best curl definition and last me the entire week. Which works perfectly for me because I wash my hair weekly. Plus, I dont need need to add product and it increases in volume throughout the week so I am fine with the first day hair being 'flat'. I'm someone who cant add water or product to my hair once its dry because my hair will just freak out, frizz, and may get matted by the time wash day comes. Also, dont forget that the L in the LOCmethod may just as easily be replaced with just plain water, and lighter products for the OC may help prevent low porosity hair from being too coated. P.S. I love coconut oil as a pre-poo!
I keep my hair well moisturise and my hair is thin, but getting thick. My hair has grown a lot and I have not suffering from build up. I checked my scalp recently for build up. My hair do not snaps easily anymore. I listened to my hair and I give my hair what it needs and it works. I am going to have a Steam soon, because I haven't had a steem since the 90s
Thank you for so much for clearing up the coconut 🥥 issue about having protein in it.. I really appreciate all the hard work you do to bring us this awesome video. I have low porosity hair and I need help.
I love your breakdowns always simple but very informative! I am actually very allergic & have food sensitivity to all tree nuts & dairy products which makes it hard for me because coconut, almond, & shea butter are staple products in practically ALL natural hair products. So I always have to be careful because it's a regular occurrence where I wake up the next day with half of my face swollen or looking like straight out of the scene from the movie Hitch. Very frustrating & defeating sometimes. If possible can you do a video on products you can use if you have nut sensitivity? It would help me immensely! ♡♡♡ Thanks!
Hair takes forever to dry, products buildup, conditioners uneffective if I dont use heat...wow no need to make a test I have very low porosity hair. And effectively I cant live without heat and cowash without cleansing is a big no-no for me. Very informative video thank you
Before I saw your video I was terrified of coconut oil because it would dry out my hair. Today I washed my hair and I applied coconut oil , put on a plastic cap and stood in the bathroom with hot steam from the shower,as you instructed, my bangs are now dry and they are soft as silk . I can’t thank you enough.
This video is incredible. So well done girl! i’m mixed mexican/armo/black and have had such trouble with figuring out my hair type. This is gonna change my whole routine 🙌🏼
Thank you so much. I'm not allergic to nut oil but hearing the explanation to scalp inflammation/tenderness makes sense. Though to be honest I'm nervous to add coconut oil back into haircare. My scalp is finally tender-free after two and half years.
THANK you for stating that coconut oil does NOT have protein. I am amazed at how misinformation is so easily and quickly spread. The same with eggs being protein treatments. NO they are not.
marvinandjosh1 growth is 100% based on genetics and how well you retain length due to proper hair care practises. there is no "miracle products" to grow hair. Don't let anyone fool us ever again. application overnight should be for adding moisture (deep condition) only.
@1tsybitsyspider the only way to grow hair an inch a week is infusion method. It sucks but it works. Also rice water treatments work. But you are to do it twice a day for weeks and be gentle. It worked for me and I grew my hair 5 inches in 3 weeks but that's just me, a low to med porosity 3c hair type. I'm also Egyptian and native American descent so that could be why my hair grows that way. I've only had that happen a few times.
@Welcome's House they really do. I used egg and mayo treatments in my teens and it made my hair shiny and helped retain length. It a great deep conditioner for some hair types
Would you please give me your tips on what kind of hooded dryer to look for? I’ve low porosity hair. I’m falling in love with your videos! Thank you so much!
I love you! Thank you for your research and knowledge that you share w us! I' ve recently found out that I'm a low porosity girl, and that my efforts in taking care of my hair were nule because I wasn't helping my curls to take in the products I was using (and was starting to believe that I shouldn't use coconut oil) You're helping me so much in my journey to healthy curls! Lots of love
Thanks so much for your awesome informative videos. I'm so perplexed. I have all the characteristics of low porosity hair, YET I just did the water strand test and my hair sank to the bottom 🤷🏽♀️ Just when I thought I had it figured out (two years into my natural journey 👀). I just don't know. It's so disheartening *sigh*
Oh my goodness. Patience is.is a virtue!! I have been doing g my best to wait patiently for you to put a video out on low porosity hair. I believe I am 4 years into my Hai journey and I still do jot understand what my hair needs and wants it is getting too much for me. I need to write you a separate letter to explain all this. However after not understanding how knowing my hair type ABC 123.... stuff I saw your video on porosity and said "Now this makes sense something I can understand as a nurse and loving human biology!" 😄 However my hair continues to elude me and I want to throw in the towel on natural hair. All I did before was press and curl my hair so I just had to get away from heat. And my curl pattern and porosity are too much to deal with I need a break and will watch your videos again on how to prepare my hair and myself for braids.
Sorry for the wait guys☺Part 2 will be posted tomorrow on Friday or Saturday.

I feel the same way about Olive Oil. I'm like damn again. Put some Argan or JoJoba oil something different sheesh!
UrbanLateNights omg Same here. And I see ppl doing the cuties hair style using coconut oil and I feel some type of way.lol
Right. Coconuts produce more oil than other usual plants, so I always felt they used the cheap oils like coconut to get the most profit. And there are almost no options for people allergic to coconut.
My hair HATES coconut oil. It always ends up feeling dry and brittle. I use jojoba oil now and for deep conditioning i use jbco
Omg! I thought I was the only one that felt this way about coconut oil. 👀

God blessed you!! this is the video I needed to see because I was just about give up on my hair a get a relaxer next week after six years of being natural.
FINALLY A TH-camR KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT WHEN IT COMES TO HAIR HEALTH!!! COMING FROM A COSMETOLOGIST😁 A HUGE THANK YOU!!!
I had trouble knowing my hair porosity after doing all those tests but thanks to this video I am more enlightened. Thanks.
You are a life saver. You are the best natural hair channel I've seen and I just discovered you today. I wish more youtubers were like you.
Gb. Would you say that someone who claims "coconut sensitivity" probably needs to clarify? and also incorporate using less and the shower cap tip I gave.
NappyFu TV she never responds
Before I add a deep conditioner or LCO, I warm up the products first. That has helped alot.
Omg...I just became natural and out of all the videos I've looked at...you have made more sense to me with Dealing with my natural hair...ty so much.
Thank you
Didn't**
I am nearly in tears of joy now. For months I watched whilst near hand fulls of my nearly waist length hair would come out. It was brittle and stringy. Then I saw this video. I clarified, used a cotton t, paper towel, then just used coconut oil. 3 only 3 strands of hair came out. Thank you, TU, Thank you. Blessings to you.
Wow God is good, I just realized that I have low porosity and I've been looking for a good video and stumble upon this video from one of the most educational natural hair channels💓
That coconut oil bit is so true. The oil solidifies on my strands making it feel hard, stiff.
I appreciate you getting to the bottom of Coconut oil. I just thought that my hair was rejecting it but when you broke it down, it made a lot of sense. Thank you!!!
Thank you for clearing up the misconception about coconut oil.
Good idea
isn't natural coconut oil normally liquid at room temp?
I legit screamed when I seen this! lol I'm so thankful for this video!
InhaleWithJael me too lol
InhaleWithJael me three! 😂
Me 5!!!
Me too
You have a beautiful voice.
Thank You :-)
She really does
I agree.
Agree
Agreed!! So thankful for the lovely voice & calm, clear narration style 💖😍 a joy for the ears!!
The same
Righttttt
Thank You ☺
I’m definitely low porosity!!
Ossouko 3 I love the microwave cap because there’s no sound. I like to read or watch tv while I dc.
I love your videos. I have low porosity and your videos are so educational. They make simple sense. Will be coming back for more education as I move forward on my hair journey.
I long abandoned coconut oil 'cause it made my hair feel like protein overload. Now I know I used too much! Thanks for this informative video!
Thank you for your research about coconut oil. There's no way I'm giving that up. lol!
How often should I wash my low porosity hair? My Current regimen consist of me washing my hair every week and doing African threading and taking them down to do a protective style and re wash.
I just started suffering from high porosity 2 months ago but I fixed it now my hair is normal porosity and it’s growing 😊
Wow I’m impressed with ya knowledge of our hair 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾l learn so much from ya. I’m doing the onion 🧅 juice twice weekly for hair growth I already seen results. Thanks for all your good work!
Your final rinse should be with spring water. I use Deer Creek which is the best. Your hair is so much softer than using hard water
Great vid…I will start using coconut oil…I stopped because “natural hair content creators” discouraged me from using coconut oil 🙄
paper towel drying makes a huge difference. Also putting hair into twist after washing helps to dry faster, when you part you see water rolling off the scalp, you create more space for breeze to blow, after 30minutes, I separate the twists into half creating even more space for hair drying or do a bit of blowdrying.
Eureka! That's exactly what I did. Turns out I have low porosity hair. Thanks for the information.
This video honestly deserves a million views and likes 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾❤️
loove your videos ! finally someone who approach hair with scientific explanation and doesn't mix up moisture/ hydration/nutrition♡♡♡
i m very interested in your last topic about coconut oil, could you do a video about it?
my hair becomes stiff with it and i used under shower cap/ shower.
on the other hand shea butter which is a hard texture works wonders. i always wondered why!
also a topic about clay?
thank you
yosra ben hamida , my hair doesn't like coconut oil either. .
yosra ben hamida your avatar is gonna give me nightmares
I'm glad you mentioned the misconceptions about coconut oil because honestly? It really works for me haha.
You basically just described me in the beginning of your video.....never too late to get back on track. Great video!
This is certainly helping me with my daughters hair. Mine is high porosity and hers is low with so much product build up.
I am so in love with this channel, every chance I get while I am at work and home I always log on. You have inspired me to start a youtube channel but I am not consistent at all...smile!
I so appreciate the scientific breakdown for my low porosity hair. It is truly important to understand my hair! Thanks!
Can you do a video on naturals with medium porosity? My hair isn't low or high in porosity, so any tips for medium porosity would be quite helpful 🤗
GreenBeauty you are back!!! I got so excited when I saw this!
I am just now learning about my hair. Thanks for this video. I had no idea about low or high porosity.
♡♡♡ Thanks!
You’re an excellent teacher. Thanks so much!
Thank you ☺️
your voice, the detail, the information.. gold!
BEST VIDEO ON TH-cam...HANDS DOWN
Hair takes forever to dry, products buildup, conditioners uneffective if I dont use heat...wow no need to make a test I have very low porosity hair.
There's no need to change anything if what you are doing is working.
Green Beauty Channel ™ thanks for that. I will keep at it.
My scalp became inflamed after using coconut oil too. I wouldn't go back!
THANK you for stating that coconut oil does NOT have protein. I am amazed at how misinformation is so easily and quickly spread. The same with eggs being protein treatments. NO they are not.
So what is it that makes the hair grow?? Or are you suggesting that those "overnight protein treatment growth" videos are fraud?
marvinandjosh1 growth is 100% based on genetics and how well you retain length due to proper hair care practises. there is no "miracle products" to grow hair. Don't let anyone fool us ever again. application overnight should be for adding moisture (deep condition) only.
@Welcome's House The molecule of an egg CANNOT penetrate the hair shaft. An egg is suppose to hatch and become a animal that's it.
Not mad very thankful for the information you're providing can't wait for part 2 😍😍😍😍
Would you please give me your tips on what kind of hooded dryer to look for? I’ve low porosity hair. I’m falling in love with your videos! Thank you so much!
I'm so glad to hear about the coconut oil because I have a huge jar .
Thank you soo much for the coconut oil tip. I'll surely try it
Thanks so much for your awesome informative videos.
God Bless you and Family 👪 My hair is low porosity and it takes time yo get wet and when wet takes ages to dry out
