The truck can vary obviously depending on how you drive. On back roads in normal being a leisurely driver I’ve gotten 23. Usually get 18-21. On a road trip I got 24-26 in eco mostly highway. I’ve also gotten 14 on a short “fun” trip. Truck is awesome. If you want good gas mileage you can get it. If you want to play with it…you most certainly can. Fast and torquey.
Wow-on my first tank of gas on my 2024 TRD sport 4x4, I used eco mode the whole time and my truck says 16.5 mpg. Getting ready to top it off and reset the trip meter, really hope things get better quickly

I installed 285/70/17 and I can see the difference in mpg. I went from avg 23 mpg down to 19 mpg. It’s still not too bad, but I bought the truck for off road and camping.
Oh wow. That's better than the last gen! Great, I will add though that It's not shocking to me - My 23 Frontier with NA 3.8 gets 20.3 mpg overall and 25 MPG on the highway ( i'm a slow driver )
Your MID is displaying 264 miles range on a full tank. If you got 23.5mpg, that would mean you can expect as much as 427.7 miles range on a full 18.2 gallon tank. Goes to show that Toyota has it set to keep a few gallons in the tank even though it says empty, in your case, you would have about 163 miles of range left when it says empty. I have the exact same Tacoma as you do and my range has always displayed way less than what it actually gets.
Absolutely. I haven't checked the owners manual for this, but when I owned a RAV4 (which has a smaller tank) it had a 2.2 gallon buffer stated in the manual.
$4.15 a gal? Forgot what that was like! With the cost of these new pickups, every mile counts. 23mpg combined isnt too bad! I just cant justify the OTD cost of these trucks though.
Once you modify putting like lift kits, bigger tires, do overlanding with all of those weights. Your mpg will absolutely going down! I bet it is still much better than the fully decked out overlanding 3rd gen Taco mpg!
@@wilyceyoteyes I’m gna mount a 50 mil gun then lets talk gas consumption.. people who can afford these trucks not that they are hard to attain arnt buying it for mpg.. what your seeing here is a single person driving the truck will be 80 percent of the time this truck will be driven. said the same things about the 3rd gens, and thats what i got too. with the tire choice/tire size/weight of usual tacoma ownership you will see this drop 5-6 mpg. id hope that the 4cyl is better on fuel than its 6cyl predecessor, id hope that it would be even better actually. with issues modifying the 4th gens, extortionate markups its not justifiable to me to even consider a new when 25 - 30k i can buy someones used and already setup 3rd gen or spend similar on a full SAS gen1 with a v8 swap.... not impressed
I have a 2016 Sprinter cargo van with a 2.1 L4 cylinder diesel and I get 24 miles per gallon driving like I stole it and the cargo full of tool boxes, Toyota can do better
Not a fair comparison my friend! Plus your mpg is not that great for a diesel! Had a 99 f350 dually with the 7.3l power stroke and got 18 mpg pulling a 4 horse trailer loaded!
This is sad the 23s are way better then this 24 I can get 26 miles to the gallon in my Tacoma but I don't have any lights here just stop and yeios signs
The new Tacoma lacks quality. After much research and hands on, test drive I decided on a 2024 TRD off road premium 4runner for a little more than a stock sr5 4x4 Tacoma.

Interesting. I put 34" tiles on my 2024 trd offroad and struggle to get 15 mpg combined. And I baby it when driving.
Tires definitely have a big effect. If I put bigger tires on I'll do a comparison video.

Testing in streets is good information, because mosley TH-camrs tests in hwy.
Tacoma did very well this time.

You should do a calculated test. The frontier computer is known to over estimate its mpg by like 2
Good test course but needs to be 250 to 300 miles long, short drives have to large of % error.

I have never seen over 18 on mine
What type of driving do you do primarily? Also, do you have any non-stock items on your truck?
Is this the hybrid? What tires are on the truck?
No, not the hybrid. 265/70/17 BF Goodrich Trail Terrain T/A.
Do that test again, 350 miles and tell me what you get.
72 miles is more than sufficient to get an average. All EPA tests are less than 11 miles each.
It gets good mpg’s now, but wait until you fully loaded with gear are other things in Tacoma then tested again see what the gas mileage is then
Well, EPA estimates are not calculated with a load like that, so it's still impressive that we exceeded expectations with the test.
Safe to say the 4th gen is more efficient than the 3rd.
@@beexiong2995 absolutely

It's mostly because you're using diesel, which is 25-30% more efficient in MPG than gas.

The 3.5 Atkinson cycle engine is a gutless piece of shit.

That's not surprising. Cars are much more aerodynamic and that's 25% lighter than the Tacoma's weight.
