The apothecary in gravis is an auto include with eradicators because the eradicators have the ability to re-roll the hit, wound and damage roll against monsters and vehicles. So you fish for 6’s on the hit roll. And if you do fire discipline enhancement in gladius detachment, and under the devastator doctrine, you crit hits on 5 and you will get sustained plus one. And when you run a brick of 6 of them, you can have two multi melted and 4 melts rifles, which is 8 shots. So that’s how you run it. Hope that helps explain why people like it so much.
I believe he's said in the past that he mainly only runs the actual Black Templar detachment so it definitely doesn't thrive as much there as it does in Gladius, I can see why he's never gotten the appeal lol
Fun nitpick: "Ancient" here is an archaic term for the standard, not the armor. Google says the root was "ancien" from which we got both "ensign" and "ancient" as terms for a flag/banner.
@8:20 you cant take wounds on a character if his squad is still alive wounds HAVE to be allocated to non character models first, with the sole exception of precision attacks, where the wound can be allocated to a character of the opponents choice instead of the bodyguard
@9:30 Jay saying "based on an old, old, OLD model" like why you gotta do me like that?!? That model was the special edition Captain in the 3rd Edition Starter box that I bought brand new... in 1998

I haven't been able to bring myself to buy any characters, except a Terminator Captain because he was $15. But so far I've kitbashed a Lieutenant, Chaplain, Librarian, Apothecary, Ancient, and a Techmarine, just using regular Space Marine bodies. Paradoxically I've gotten more enjoyment from kitbashing the characters than I would have gotten from the prebuilt ones, but the prebuilt ones are like four times as expensive.
Join the Grey Knights. You can easily kitbash 5 characters out of a singular terminator box. Ok, maybe less since Ancient and Apothecary are not characters in the GK range anymore, but still ! And you get a million extra bits on top !
@@EruCoolGuy Lol all my power swords are from half a box of Grey Knights. And I turned their Warding Staffs into iron halos. I have great respect for the chapter but at this point I've almost got 2k points of regular space marines and I'm trying to convince myself that it's enough.
6:55 I like to bring him with Aggressors. He gives Lethal Hits on EVERYTHING. So attach him to a Squad of 6 Aggressors with Marneus Calgar? Kills Everything.
I'm painting my Thousand Sons, and the Exalted Sorcerers are staring at me constantly. No paint, one of the most beautiful sculpts GW has ever done, with so many bits and cool things that can be any color, and I have no idea what I'm gonna do for them lol!

The Marshal is based on the special collector model that was packaged with the 3rd edition launch box. Eventually it was sold by itself as a variant captain. Then it was repackaged as a Black Templar Marshal (even though he had always been painted as a Black Templar).
I 100% love your templar set, the paint job you did is fantastic and really captures the vibe. I try and try Im just not quite to that level yet lol but it's so inspiring and now Im gonna go buy more paints to help maybe practice some more.
Costs so many points for that though. If you attach him to 6 Eradicators, give him that enhancement, that's now 310 points for 8 melta shots a turn. Plus they barely move at all, so then you're looking at a Land Raider to bus them into range, and now you've got 25%+ of your army paying for 8 melta shots a turn...
@@Chris-lr2qb8 shots that reroll to hit, wound, and damage, lethal hits and sustained hits on 5 plus (so it's probably closer to 10 shots/hits) and they're D6+2 damage on each hit, rerollable. They can melt basically any vehicle or monster. Tournament players wouldn't have taken them if the combo wasn't worth it.
@@Chris-lr2qb It's 110 points to more than double their output on average, you're effectively getting a slightly more than a second unit for almost half the price, that is not a bad deal at all. Not to mention that these shots are averaging you 23 wounds on the toughest targets without invulns, and that's before melta 2 or the damage reroll, that's close to one-shotting anything other than a knight or titan in a single turn, it's a combo absolutely worth building an army around, it's 8 melta shots with almost all the best special rules in the game packed onto them. Throw them in a land raider redeemer, or if you play ultramarines you can take ventris to give them deep strike, or calgar so you can advance and shoot, if not, they can still use strategic reserves and with 18" range there's only so far your opponent can hide from the table edge. A unit costing a lot of points is not a problem if they make good use of those points.
I've been meaning to use that Marshal model to kitbash a Dark Angels Master, their version of a captain in the lore (but not the rules, oddly enough). I get really into kitbashing and naming characters. It's the best part of 40k
Characters are alot of fun to build and paint, just wish they were like half the price, and the character attachment rules I'm still 50/50 on. I've painted like 5 Templar characters, an Apothacary, the Indomitus Chaplain, the Indomitus Captain but his shield was replaced by an old Templar chainsword so he's duel wielding swords which isn't a wysiwyg loadout but looks cool, Castellan Crowe but he was given a Templar shield and a Templar shoulder pad and was originally built by my friend to be a Deathwatch Templar Ancient for his Deathwatch army but later sold him to me and is now a Castallen or Lietenant with shield and power sword, and then the only model I converted myself which is the Black Templar Marshall whose pose I really like, I replaced his gun hand with a cool custom Templar shield I found and gave him the Crusaders helm from the upgrade sprue so he's technically a Captain with shield and power sword, that small group of characters is probably my favourite group of painted characters that I never use but love

That way when you declare the Devastator Doctrine you get Sustains/Lethals on 5+ with AP-5 ignore cover Metas when you also us fire discipline Stratagem.
