      I've been painting for 20 years and I can safely say do this and make sure you keep your older models. In five years time you can compare and it will really boost your confidence, hell even in a year you'll learn so much!

    Loving the development in style, although the lenses in the 2020 model are fantastic. You've tied them into the base perfectly with pigments, also the yellow gun is spot on, as are the other colour choices esp heraldry.
    My only critique would be the damage is too random (and evenly spread), coming from tank armour modlers, it looks best when 'randomly' added to specific places where it tells a story. Sort of like wear on the tank steps or where people stand to get in, longwise scratches where it scraped against something. Not of the skill on space marines to do it, but could be sort of scratches on the knee's when they slid for cover, the edges of the plates where they collide etc, the legs would have more damage at the bottom, where the stones he's kicked up running have hit the grieves and damaged the boots etc. Oddly I find visually telling the story is the best part of the modeling and diorama making.

    10 years of improving painting skills. The last iteration looks fantastic and it is worth re-painting old minis... I did the same for my eldar some year after and it is good to have stuff look homogenous, even if the sclupt of the minis look very different.

    Hi Jay, big fan here. I discovered your channel while starting with 40k 1 year ago, you teached me so much it feels kinda weird to give you a suggestion for the color scheme ahaha still here I go
    I agree the primaris are a little too grey, it was one of the rare times the final result didn't convince me (I remember at the end of the video you tried to be content with it and I hoped you would decide to touch them again :D) I still kinda suck at painting so I use contrast paints to do much of the job, and focus on smaller parts to learn techniques - I found out to me the best way to paint round surfaces like IG armour, is to dilute it a lot and passing more coats, typically it's 1:2 dilution with contrast medium and 3 coats. I think it would work wonders for you too;
    one of the things I like more about this way is, if you want to increase contrast (or to keep the highlights since you already did them) you can do some coats focusing on the bottom half, the paint is so thin and 'contrasty' it doesn't leave a line. In your case you could do a test with a thinner 1:3 dilution of BT black, and just 2 coats one halfway and one 3/4? I know it sounds like a lot of work, but for me it actually turned out not so bad, because of the thinner paint I stress a lot less about mistakes and go faster
    another big plus for me is since it's so thin, it makes it easy to try a little glaze in one of the coats. As an example, I like Militarum Green more than Creed Camo, but the latter makes for a very rich shadow so I mix a little in my lower coats, just keep in mind since you are adding another paint you must also increase medium to keep the coat thin - so for me the mix is
    1 MG + 2 medium (one part paints to 2 parts medium) whole surface
    2 Militarum Green +1 Creed Camo + 6 medium (which is the same dilution) whole surface
    2 MG +1 CC + 6 medium again 3/4 height or so
    The reason of the order is to use pure MG first, as not to cover the CC shadow, if you use one color you can start from top or bottom doesn't matter

    I've been "collecting" Black Templar since they got their own codex in the 5th edition

    I tried doing a volumetric version, but it ended up looking too blue. Black armour is certainly difficult.
