Ive had my 2018 f150 2.7 for a year and 23k now. This truck is insanely fast. With 93 octane and a $40 dry performance air filter, you can hit those 5.5s 0-60 times. I've also removed the blow-off silencer so you can hear the boost dump on shifts, it really helps the lack of sound. If you have a choice, get the damn ecoboost. Just shy of 7k miles on my new 2018 F150 STX with the 2.7 EcoBoost and I'm Very happy with it. Pulls well and gets good MPG when I need it. I will say with any EcoBoost you either get Eco or Boost, never both at the same time!

This lil motor is quiet refined and quick. Not saying it’s better than the Coyote, but it’s s better engine than the haters will admit, much better.

I'm getting ready to change everything over to Amsoil, already bought everything, just need to get 'er done! Make sure that you add a high quality fuel conditioner, stabilizer for ethanol to your tank every 5k miles. That is just as important in terms of extending the life of your motor as running clean, high quality oil.

@@jonathonsmith7694 That's why performance packs run lower rear gears to be slower.....or why trucks can tow more weight with a lower gear. Check the tow charts smart man.
I'm thinking the computers are torque limiting the engine in 2wd vs 4wd which makes sense seeing the power load is being shared between two drive axles, less chance of parts breakage.
Drag races are fun and everything but what’s more important is how these trucks work and how long they last. Like dragging big logs, pulling old cars out of fields, or merging on the highway with a bed loaded full of firewood.
Miguel Ramirez agreed I had to settle for the 2.7 ... but when I’m no longer dishing out so much weekly money for daycare for 2 kids it’s either gonna be a 250 blacked out, raptor , or limited
People saying how trucks are too expensive these days should really consider how much difference there is. There’s obviously WAY more material for one. Two, the Ford F-Series trucks are driven over 200,000 miles, more often, than ANY other vehicle, from ANY other manufacturer in the United States. You get what you pay for, especially with the luxury packages. And they are luxurious lol
I've driven my brothers coyote in his 19' Mustang GT. Running 460 HP stock, these engines have a ton of potential. Couple that with 10 speed and a light pickup truck, what a great combination.
If i were buying a raptor where I would be playing and the sounds it makes would be part of it, then a V8 would be important to me in that context. However, in a truck that I put 50K/year, the primary factor on exhaust to me was how loud it was inside. I don’t care what it sounds like to the car next to my tail pipe. I took two rentals on 2500 miles trips before buying. both 10 speed and 1 eco boost and 1 coyote. They both did excellent fuel mileage but the v8 was so much louder inside, the eco boost was nice and quite inside. I purchased the eco boost in significant part because of it being much quieter in the cab. Now that I own it, I can see if the conditions are right its gets insane fuel mileage. Also the ability to just “turn up” the power with my tuning gear is quite appealing.
Ther are quite a few dealerships that offer a supercharged coyote f-150 4x4 and can be bought for around the $39,900 from beachfront Ford as example of 1 place that offer it with 725RWH and with full warranty which would smoke both those turbos in a drag race
Mike Mccabe - I have said that elsewhere too. I didn’t know they now offer over 700 hp though. SUHWEEEETTTT!!! I must admit opportunistically, that since they fully warranty the truck with the supercharged version of the 5.0, that this is a stock motor and, as such, unbeatable by the turbos, tuned or not, 3.5 OR 2.7!!! Hahaha yeah!
What you don’t see here is after about 10k miles that 2.7l breaks in and it spoils quicker and gets even faster. My 5.0l same spec same gear ratio 3.55 same options just can’t keep up
Last time I cared about my trucks exhaust sound, I was 17 years old and thought it was really cool. Now, I’m 40 years old and the last thing I want to hear is as an obnoxious exhaust note. So I get these reviewers need to complain about SOMETHING but enough with the bitchin about how the truck sound makes you lose wood. The majority of the F150 buyers are loving the quiet engine note.
I got my new 3.5 EcoBoost XLT out the door for around 35k. I added the extended warranty for 3k so about 38k for a decently loaded F150 3.5 EcoBoost 2wd max tow package with a few other options (spray bed liner, tow mirrors and power group package with 8 inch touchscreen).
I completely agree with the fact that the turbo engine will run better at higher elevations. I would love to see the same comparison at lower elevations like we have here in Texas. Love the videos, keep em coming.
@@trailspeed7037 Can't wait to find out check out my TH-cam page I got a 5.0 regular cab it's pretty fast stock for stock with a limited it will be close The biggest advantage is how much it weighs
How much it weighs? Basically the same as the regular lariat 3.5. The regular 3.5 beats the 5.0 all the time, at sea level or altitude. The 450 hp can only be faster. It isn’t a matter of weight, because that will barely change. More hp, more torque, even wider torque band, already. Faster with the base 3.5. Physics, pure physics says it is not possible for the 5.0 to win. Especially if Ford can get their shit together and provide two loaded trucks with the same gears for once. Sorry, I have had and am getting another 5.0 next week because I love them, but the Limited will even beat the 2.7 off the line, let alone the 5.0. This one really IS just science. My favourite, hands down, is the 5.0 with the dealer added, Roush supercharger. Full warranty AND 560 + 640 hp depending on which pulls you chose for boost! I think that could still be considered “stock” seeing as it is sanctioned by Ford enough that they even warranty the truck fully with the option. THEN, the 5.0 won’t be beat again!!! BWAA HAAAA HAAAA HAAAA HAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! Sorry, got carried away. I want the 5.0 to be the fastest, period. Just needs the supercharger. A friend has one and it is intoxicating how fast it is!

@@kevinmckinley512 yeah but your talking .24 of a driveshaft rotation difference which is nothing. The main difference was the 6000 feet of elevation which kills naturally aspirated engines. Elevation doesnt effect turbo engines nearly as bad.
Did you have the traction control off, is may have been slowing down the Superduty. I know my traction control on my F350 Powerstroke eats up brake pads if I have a lot of wheel slip.
ford agriculture eco = economy. You can’t really market a v8 as eco anything. I know Chevy does it with the whole Ecotec thing, but I don’t think they offer a v6 or v8 with turbos on it and plus I think they switched the name simply to compete with Ford. It’s kind of contradicting I suppose.
Market studies. Cost to produce. Profitability. Turbocharging a V-8 is for aftermarket tuners/gear heads/enthusiasts. At that point with so much torque you're better off just going for a diesel turbocharged because haulers are looking for torque and heavier frame. Besides that car manufacturers are putting out impressive numbers with V6's naturally aspirated, turboed (in Ford's case), and turbocharged diesels. The focus is doing more with less in an effort to challenge the notion of what smaller engine blocks are capable of with engineering but of course the caveat is keeping them trouble free and low total cost of ownership. Probably unheard of 15-20 years ago but now mass produced 4 and 6 cylinder American cars (especially trucks) are going to be the new proving ground for American car makers.
I have a 2.7 stock... for now. I raced a 3.5 EcoBoost truck I jumped out on him by a truck length and stayed there until about 80 then he closed the Gap and climbed all over me then went around LOL that was fun! I also raced my buddies 5.0 i jumped out 2 lengths on him and he just couldn't close the gap after the take off they were even. Win Lose or Draw we had a blast i learned don't mess with 3.5 trucks on the highway u will get torched 🔥 the 3.5 owns the highway lol
Man, the prices of the 2015 trucks (especially with a bit of mileage on them) are getting CHEAP! A 2.7 EB singlecab truck with 80k on it can be had for 13k if you're willing to travel. Crazy! Even more crazy is that truck would weight barley over 4k lbs. With a tune/tire and good air you're looking at a mid 12 second truck that can get almost 20mpg around town. Ford's killing it IMO.
Disable traction control and launch in 2nd. It releases the wheel brakes and allows torque to push the gear. Finally spool up that turbo. That diesel will blow the doors off. 4wd likely disables most of the traction control and why it does better.
@@jrwjr Ive seen these guys disable traction control and enable 4wd on the F150s. Seem to really help i didn't know it do good on the F250s. Does it just deliver the power better or it helps moves truck faster?
Guys it’s because the traction control is pulling out the torque to eliminate wheel slip on the super duty. When I’m in 4wd and launch my super duty it hooks up 100%
@TheFastLaneTruck you did a video that showed that the 3.5L was faster than the 5.0L and the 2.7L. What's the point of this video if you don't include it?
@@steelavocado1 In 4 low for sure. I've driven trucks in 4high plenty of times over 40 mph with no issues. The reason I asked my question is because it was stated at 10:07 that they raced the trucks in 4wd, but they never give the gas trucks times while they were in 4wd. It would be interesting to see the difference that 4wd makes.
Not sure if anyone said this. But I think by putting extra load on the diesel you got the turbo to spool sooner there for a faster 0 to 60. So it seems like the diesel got faster with more load while the EcoBoost got slower because the diesel beat it. If I were to get an EcoBoost I would just spring for the 3.5. More potential and maybe one MPG worse. And more torque. The 5.0 isn't much worse in MPG. Especially if you're a spirited driver. The good thing about the EcoBoost 3.5 is your already boosted. So you can get another 60 horse more on regular gas or 80 if you willing to do premium. The 5.0 has the best potential in the long run. But the highest initial cost. Because you got to buy the supercharger first. But you can do 700 plus wheel horsepower on regular pump 93.
@@drew4769 No, it is a modified (bigger displacement) Coyote with a supercharger. It is not a supercharged GT350 engine. The 5.2 L displacement is a coincidence. @Charles Ball The low-tension rings aren't the root cause. The issues started when they switched to plasm-arc cylinder coating. Essentially, what you have is a cylinder wall that is deforming due to a lack of structure, creating sealing and piston slap issues that everyone is complaining about.
@Charles Ball You're exactly right and it sucks that Ford went that route. As soon as I heard Ford began using that process, I wrote off the 5.0, until they strengthen the block. Sucks because I had a 2011 with the 5.0 and it was a GREAT engine. They claim it saved 8 lbs of weight, but at an extreme cost... I just bought an '18 with the 3.5 eco and love it. I didn't have much choice on the engine because I was after the dealers overstock 2018's at a reduced price, and I knew I didn't't want the 5.0. I've never driven the 2.7, but I hear and seen so many vids that the 2.7 performs almost just as good as 3.5, stock-to-stock at least. If you're going for a used eco, just make sure and get a 2nd Gen eco, with the dual fuel injection, to avoid the intake valve coking issue. I still put a catch can on mine right after I bought it for better peace of mind.

Most modern turbo vehicles are torque limited in the lower gears, so it wouldnt surprise me if they had different power and torque maps for 4wd and 2wd.
It's like that EVERY single time they do a eco v6 vs the 5.0! They always blame it on ford for not getting both power trains the same. Ford won't give them the same set ups for each trucks because they don't want the 5.0 to be close in performance to the v6 I guess!

Brake boost, yes. To the floor, no. Maybe 1800 to 2200 RPM would be my guess. I brake boost my 3.5 eco in my SHO to that. Anymore and it wants to start moving and will have too much wheel spin. It also won't build more boost at 3000 RPM than it was at 2500 RPM so modulating wheel spin is key to a good launch. A few little chirps from different tires at different times is ideal.

My 2015 V8 easily spins the tires with the 3.31 already, I can't imagine how a 3.55 would be much faster if traction is an issue even with the highest ratio.
@Pete shea I'm aware that it doesn't affect higher speeds, I was simply pointing out that these trucks struggle to get traction at full throttle even with a tall axle ratio. ThePegcitydude - I agree, unfortunately, as is said here, the manufacturers want us to see the various options. It is not TFLs fault at all here. If the manufacturers provided all the same gears, then it would eliminate the debate, to a degree, and the manufacturers don’t want that, they want us talking like this. The 5.0 with 355 gears, all 3 in 4wd (makes it fairer for the SuperDuty because of torque limiting in 2wd), the difference between all 3 would be almost impossible to determine at the end of this track and distance. I am thinking........
Like watching a race in slow motion! But seriously, the 0-60 numbers are very impressive. I think the diesel limits power output in first and/or second gear? Anyone care to clarify that?
You are correct fella, the way the computer is set up on the Super Duty, it doesn’t give you 100% torque and HP until you hit a specific mile per hour in third gear. Ford says there is just to much power, and if you had 100% of it off the line it would do nothing but smoke the tires.

People saying how trucks are too expensive these days should really consider how much difference there is. There’s obviously WAY more material for one. You get what you pay for, especially with the luxury packages. And they are luxurious lol
I've driven my brothers coyote in his 19' Mustang GT. Running 460 HP stock, these engines have a ton of potential. Couple that with 10 speed and a light pickup truck, what a great combination.
they are good in the mustang due to the high redline. if I was going v8 in a truck for towing, it would have to be a big block.
@@rozzbourn3653 Agreed, the GM 6.4L out does it and the 3.5 Twin-turbo when it comes to towing.
Why would I pay 15k more for a 5.0 that can't perform as well as a tiny 2.7 ecoboost? I'd rather just have a 3.5 Ecoboost over all though.
I still prefer the 5.0 Coyote V8.
“He’s got the jump, getting away with it... getting away with it.... ahhh, I got nothing”

Hahaha yeah!
Time and time again I always think the 2.7 EcoBoost is the motor to get! Of course admittedly that 5.0 sounds incredible

The 2.7L’s power and torque peaks way lower in the power curve than the 3.5L. It actually is better off the line than the 3.5L.
2.7 is quicker stock vs stock, but a tuned 3.5 is the fastest truck engine out there for less than $1000 in mods.
What you don’t see here is after about 10k miles that 2.7l breaks in and it spoils quicker and gets even faster. My 5.0l same spec same gear ratio 3.55 same options just can’t keep up

Why don't Ford offer a 5.0 V8 ECOBOOST?
ford agriculture eco = economy. You can’t really market a v8 as eco anything. I know Chevy does it with the whole Ecotec thing, but I don’t think they offer a v6 or v8 with turbos on it and plus I think they switched the name simply to compete with Ford. It’s kind of contradicting I suppose.
Or a 6.2 EcoBoost for F250.
There is NO need for a EcoBoost V8. And there is also CAFE to still worry about.
It would be to much power and the cost of the turbos plus upgrading powertrain to handel the power is most likely why.
I have a 2.7 stock... for now. Allen Spark if the tires ain’t barkin in 4hi you doing it wrong
Ford limited the power of the 6.7l for the first two gears to help prevent wheel spin and the torque through the transmission
My thoughts exactly, I bet it doesn't limit torque as much in 4x4, hence the much better 0-60 & drag times in 4x4
I was just thinking that
Makes you wonder what that new 7.3 gas HD V8 will do?
big block v8's over small blocks for trucks any day of the week!
It won't be winning any drag races, I know that. 0-60 in 9.5 is my guess.
Have to disable the traction control on the F-250 to have all the power available.
I've heard that a lot too does the traction control limit it or something?
Spartan 212 I’m pretty sure ford does a torque limiter depending on rpm and speed so even with trac control off it wouldn’t beat either f150
@@trailspeed7037 ya well those trucks aren't build for that. Still think it is nice that the truck can move that fast thou.
Disable traction control and launch in 2nd. It releases the wheel brakes and allows torque to push the gear. Finally spool up that turbo. That diesel will blow the doors off.

What were the gas engine's 0-60 times in 4wd?
zipper778 you don’t want to go up to 60 on 4wd. 40 is max you want to go
@@steelavocado1 In 4 low for sure. I've driven trucks in 4high plenty of times over 40 mph with no issues. The reason I asked my question is because it was stated at 10:07 that they raced the trucks in 4wd, but they never give the gas trucks times while they were in 4wd. It would be interesting to see the difference that 4wd makes.
zipper778 yeah I guess that is true. I would be interested because it did make a difference in times.

What year did they change the manufacturing process on the 5.0?
@Charles Ball I own a 2017 f150 5.0 had it a year and love it. ive hauled heavy loads from grand junction Co to Springfield Mo and we have driven all over the Colorado mountains. so far it has worked hard and played hard for 75000 mi with no problems at all.
I wonder if the f250 is torque limited in first gears in 2wd but not 4wd

Most modern turbo vehicles are torque limited in the lower gears, so it wouldnt surprise me if they had different power and torque maps for 4wd and 2wd.
My 2013 eco boost feels like that. Turbo doesn’t come on till second gear. And it’s a big difference.
Great video, but the prices of the new Fords are getting totally out of control.

Jesse Urane about the same 0-60 time as the diesel. 7-8 seconds
Why don't you make this a valid test with the same rear ends in the 2.7 and the 5.0?
It's like that EVERY single time they do a eco v6 vs the 5.0! They always blame it on ford for not getting both power trains the same. Ford won't give them the same set ups for each trucks because they don't want the 5.0 to be close in performance to the v6 I guess!

3.73 rear in the 5.0 with max towing makes a huge difference. 2.7 is no slouch, tho - I've owned (and raced) both. Mild tune on a 5.0 gets 14.0 vs the 2.7's 14.2 also with a mild tune
what ive seen on youtube races with tune only trucks, the 2.7l goes 13.5 and the 5.9 goes 13.7 with 93 octane programs.
@@rozzbourn3653 that'd be a hellaciously aggressive tune on the 2.7; to go 14.2 is 386 hp so that would be 425+. I strongly doubt the stock exhaust could handle that
@@sqmotorsports9230 here is a stock run th-cam.com/video/_DhBufhV7bo/w-d-xo.html 14.4 seconds. its a 2016 so it would be lucky to get 290hp to the wheels.
here is a tuned one th-cam.com/video/KI6126axMzo/w-d-xo.html 13.5 seconds. a tune only 2016 2.7l is only good for about 320ish hp to the wheels. the 2018+ models have confirmed 370+ hp to the wheels just by the addition of the port injection and 93 octane tune. hey get off of the line very fast because of all the low end torque.
here is a stock 2018 2.7l th-cam.com/video/9PO2D6yguSo/w-d-xo.html 13.7 seconds. the 2015-17's aren't as fast as the 2018's.
A "mild" tune on a turbo engine vs. a "mild" tune on a NA engine are two totally different things. A hot tune on a NA still won't net you the gain a mild tune will on a turbo engine. A safe tune on that 2.7 is still 100 lb-ft at the wheels.
@@rozzbourn3653 that 13.5 link you posted is a 3.5, 2wd. Makes a big difference. I'd love to build a 3.5 2wd because with intake, exhaust, and a tune it would probably be deep into 12s. Meanwhile I figured out an issue with the intake I'd been running in my 2018 5.0 - check my channel in a week or two and hopefully it will be 13.5 range. (Best so far of 14.0 at 99mph)
You guys dont know how to drive that f250 and u need to brake boost it. It should have outrun that ecoboost
Tyler Sutton the weight is really what kills it
@@trailspeed7037 i know trust me ive drove the 17 model those things move.

Bingo. Should be in 4 high and STANDING on both pedals for a good 3 or 4 seconds before launch.

Have that v8 with the 3.73 ratio and it will wipe the floor with that ecoboost. The 3.31 is good for gas mileage on the highway but lags on the takeoff
There isn't configuration available that will enable a 5.0 to keep up with an EcoBoost here in Colorado. At sea level, maybe.
Would be nice to see 3.73 axle ratio in all 3 trucks and use the electronic locking differential also.
3.5 Ecoboost would have beat them all.
In four-wheel drive y'all should be able to put the accelerator to the floor and then release the brake
Agreed. Makes even more of a difference on the turbo trucks.

It's not a diesel....I'm in a 7.3 w/banks kit. In a drag race yeah cuz crreeps forward, but just for a hard launch, just mash em til the brakes start to loose the battle and drop it. You think it will loose traction in 4wd or something?

@@angelgjr1999 yes
Darin S ok
I have the 3.6 EcoBoost and love it. I think it would do even better than the 2.7 did, but that will have to be a different video.
Jon Youatt it’s a 3.5 not a 3.6
3.31 rear-end in the 5.0. 3.55 and I bet it beats the 2.7 rather easily.
My 2015 V8 easily spins the tires with the 3.31 already, I can't imagine how a 3.55 would be much faster if traction is an issue even with the highest ratio.
It's all about gearing.
@Pete shea Who ever said anything about 80mph? It'll spin up to about 35mph. At least in 2WD.
@Pete shea I'm aware that it doesn't affect higher speeds, I was simply pointing out that these trucks struggle to get traction at full throttle even with a tall axle ratio. I do suspect a locking differential would help, but unless you're running aired down drag slicks, these trucks will still spin both tires.
I'm a Ford master tech, best engine by far is the Coyote if you want a truck to last for a lifetime. Pair that with the 6r80 and you are good to go. Old school put the 7.3 Power Stroke vs the Cummins and you have a battle. Pair of good rigs as well. The 2.7 internals are too weak and yes, they fly for a bit, they don't stand up.
Wrong. Again
Jesus Christ, how about ONE comparison where the configurations are the same?
Because who wants to see 3 of the exact same trucks race? These are all about as close as you're going to get across different models. Quit bitching. It's a very minor rear end difference.
lol, How many times have you just been offered a free truck to drive around and race? None? Exactly. They don't get to pick and choose unless they have the money to buy every single vehicle, which they don't.
Good luck getting a manufacturer to give you exactly what you want...
Ikr seriously!
What about the 6.2 v8 in the gas superduty?
Eco boost complicated engine to work on .. I prefer good old fashion simple V8
Matt S just turn TCS and advance trac off. I’m 6ish all day 0-60 in an 11 6.7. Tunes and deleted though.
Haven’t watched the video yet but I’m predicting the 2.7 will dominate this race...
Glad yadunnoshet
Ive said it once and Ill say it again: Compare volume selling V8s in equally configured trucks. Its the only comparison that nobody has ever done and one I would love to see.
When he put the powerstroke in 4WD it disabled all traction control, probably the determining factor for that second race.
What about all the torque..in 2WD the wheels would slip so much easier. Remember...930 ftlbs of torque...a lot of twist
@@mikefoehr235 I didn't hear any wheel spin and they didn't say that they had any. But we do know for sure that putting any modern truck in 4WD is basically like pulling the ABS fuse. Traction control, stabikitrak, etc is disabled.
@@mikefoehr235 the TorqueShift transmission in the powerstroke has torque management in lower gears similar to the Allison transmission. It pulls a ton of power out in the lower gears. There's no way to disable it without aftermarket tuning.
@@genek121973 gotcha. All normal ABS related traction control should be off though, which makes a big difference.
I had a 2011 ecoboost and it didn't even get close to 21mpg. Got around 17-17.5 mpg. Traded for 2012 f350 that got around 16-16.5 mpg before deleting now i get around 18-18.5 depending on which tune i run. As far as towing hook an 8000lb trailer to both eco and diesel to see the real difference.
Crazy how many different configurations that Ford offers on their F Series trucks. You can customize them up the wazoo. Probably one reason they have been number one in sales in the truck segment for so long.
