My 2009 5.4 3v in real world driving is getting 20mpg hwy and 17 mpg combined. Its 320 hp and 390 ft lbs torque is all I’ve ever needed and easily towed a 6000 lb trailer from Alaska to the east coast. Paid off for 10 years now and still purring like the day I drove it off the lot it’s the engine I’ll be sticking with for years to come yet.
Love me some twin turbos! Currently in a 19' with the 3.5,had a 15' with the 2.7.Love them both .Both stellar powerplants.The PowerBoost with the onboard generator peeks my interest I must say.Its great that Ford gives buyers these engine choices.
My 2018 F150 had a 3.3 which was a great little engine. My 2022 has the 2.7 which is simply amazing. Grew up in the 50s when everything smoked at 80k and was worn out at 100k. Todays engines hit 200k and still running fine. The good old days were not that great!🙄

How is the acceleration on the 2.7 vs the 3.3???? Me and my partner debating on trading our 2018 3.3L for a faster engine… 3.5 or the Coyote… But the thing is i see a 2021 xlt 2.7L with only (137)kms for the same price as the 3.5 and 5.0 with both sitting around (50,000) kms
@@paulhunter9613 I have towed with the 3.5, which is why I now own a Super Duty with the Godzilla. I would rather tow with the V6, at least it wouldn’t overheat and go into limp mode.
I’ve had 2 5.0 V8 F-150’s the newer of the two being a 21. It’s let me down with burning oil and clunky trans but that sound and linear power is a plus. Getting a 3.5 EB shortly will see how this goes.
I highly recommend the borla atak for the coyote, totally changes driving experience, you'll fall back in love with the truck, makes it sound like it should, I did it to my 2020 f150.
Flow master was not at all too loud but appreciated the sound of the throttle when accelerating on my 2013 f150. Was not obnoxious at all. Little raspy on startup but does down when idle.
I didn't know about the 3.3 until like 3 years ago and when i moved out of state looking for a new truck I actually wanted a 3.3 for the simplicity and the reliability. My mom has a 2002 with the 4.2 and that things been super reliable. I imagine similar output numbers and it's not sluggish. I was also considering a Ram in the 3.6 as i mainly wanted the payload and hauling shit capacity over towing. In mid 2021 hitup the used market and found a 39k miles, 4x4 base model Titan for less than some of the other offerings from the big 3.. similar specs but 4x2 f150s etc so for my money i got the Titan S trim and couldn't be happier..
I traded in my 2018 2.7L V6 for a 2024 5.0L V8 (and put a Flowmaster on it). The 2.7L was ok, but I was always wishing I would've got the V8...so I eventually did just that and couldn't be happier.
Some of the highest mile f-150s I've seen throughout my life where the small 6 cylinder of the time naturally aspirated with the automatic transmission. I've seen lots of f-150s with three and 400,000 Miles.
Just traded in a 2006 with the 5.4 on a new f150 with the 2.7 in it. Time will tell I guess how it performs and holds up. First trip home from the dealer in 54 miles I seen 26 mpg. Man I hope I don't regret this choice.

the gear you pick is almost more important when it comes to mpg and towing. My 2023 f150 has a 331 gear and a 5.0, I get 22 mpg average mix high way and city.
@@earlreyes212Powerboost is hybrid, but no plug-in. The batteries just charge from the engine and braking. Some hybrids you can also plug in, like Toyota's Prime hybrids. They have larger batteries that allow for more full-time electric range, but once the battery gets used up they go back to operating like regular hybrid vehicles until you plug it in and charge the battery up again.

I don't care how an engine sounds. l care about economy and reliability. I have a 2.7 with over 100,000 and it doesn't even use a quart of oil in 4000 miles. It gets 26 MPG @ 65 but you have to keep your foot out of it. The 2.7 was improved in 2018 by adding port injection but now they messed it up by rubber wet belt driving the oil pump. The newer 3.5 has a crank shaft driven oil pump but a timing chain driven water pump so if it pukes into the oil, you can get a fresh new engine. But not to worry, Ford put a weep hole that will drip showing it's time to change the water pump and retime the chain. Unfortunately they put it on the side of the engine covered by the alternator so you won't be bothered looking at the unsightly drip. I'm not sold on the $1100 electric brake booster when the old vacuum reservoir worked 80 years.
It all comes down to your needs and priorities. 3.5L Ecoboost is vastly more popular and we always recommend that because it is so flexible. It will tow anything you need to and get great fuel economy! Some customers love the simplicity and great sound of the 5.0L V8 which can persuade some to choose that but there is always a reason to choose one or the other. Either choice is a good choice!👍
What's great? Ha. What's not great is they are all mated to the 10-speed transmission. The transmission is the weak link for all F-150s. I'll stick with my 6 speed...thank you very much.

I noticed you didn't mention the hybrid 3.5 powerboost Gas mileage, which leads me to think it is either worse than the others or it sucked. It may even cost so much more and the gas saving numbers may show is not worth it. I wish you were honest with that one🤔
The PowerBoost hybrid really shines with city driving. On the highway it is very comparable to the other engines. The stop and go traffic and city driving is where you see the difference where the electric power takes the initial acceleration and allows for the engine to be off. Once the truck is up to speed the engine can kick on and recharge the battery. Savings are roughly 5mpg more in the city with the hybrid comparing to the non-hybrid 3.5L EcoBoost engine.
How about rhe year by year nat asp say from 1953 to present such as 300-6,4.6 v8,352,351 292 eyc......in other words the years ford made a profit and not a loss and lots of recalls like it has in the last 4 or 5 years

Now, if I were to upgrade, I would want the 3.5 Eco...not the Powerboost though. People aren't doing their research if they care about longevity like I do. Amazing that Ford seemed to mute the V8 more then in the ecoboost V6 engines. I really think Ford is trying to phase the coyote motor out of the lineup as all the other truck manufacturers are going the Ford route with small displacement turbo charged engines. At least the natural aspirated V6 should prove worthy and the ones with the 5.0 V8. I'm not a fan of the complexity and high maintenance requirements for the ecoboost motors. Direct injection without port injection is a disaster waiting to happen. Happy to see Ford corrected this flaw at least on the newer vehicles with these motors. Unfortunately these trucks have become out of the commonsense individual hands with its overly inflated prices. The average truck is $50k and doesn't even have most options that are not that expensive to add into the already overly inflated priced standard list. This might come as a shock, but the Ecoboost motors actually have less mechanical moving elements than the Coyote. The 2.7l is also built like a diesel, with a crazy amount of structural reinforcement.
All engines from all manufacturers have problems. The point of this wasn't to talk about the engine problems but to show you the different engine choices.
@roywall8169 my f150 has the 3rd gen , 400 hp and 500 torque ,smooth as silk and power on demand , I have had two other trucks with this engine and they have been stellar in performance about dependability.. fleet vehicles get a shit kicking and non stop idle time. Turbos don't like non stop idle time , I pull my Rockwood camper with ease.

3.3L. Its the unsung hero that has plenty of grunt to do what 90% of half ton owners do with their trucks and its very reliable.

The current 5.0 has only been out since 2021 and it's not a simple engine. time will tell how it holds up.
It used to be simple. Not any more now that it has cylinder deactivation
50k miles on mine, hasn't skipped a beat. Can't even notice it between eco mode and 8 cylinder mode. Twice the truck of the POS ram i had before it
5.0 is the only logical option for customers who use their truck like a truck if they intend to own it long term.
P.S. 3 or 4 years and 150k miles isn't long term. That's just an optimal interval for Ford truck dealerships and the UAW union.

@roywall8169 my f150 has the 3rd gen , 400 hp and 500 torque ,smooth as silk and power on demand , I have had two other trucks with this engine and they have been stellar in performance about dependability.. fleet vehicles get a shit kicking and non stop idle time. Turbos don't like non stop idle time , I pull my Rockwood camper with ease.
That 3.5 will easily out tow the five oh, it has no low end torque . Just a car engine in a truck@@northlander4370
