A River Runs Through It : The Farm Flooded Again

  • When it rains, it pours and that's what it did. Every seed we planted has been under water for days. Now we wait. And hope and pray more comes up than doesn't. And this is farming on river bottoms. Not always easy, but is anything in life worth having or doing always easy? I'm saying no. And this too shall pass. Thanks for being here, stay tuned for updates. We aren't much on quitting and we won't.
Happy Memorial Day to everyone! Freedom isn't free. We give thanks, salute and so much respect for those who have given their lives for our freedoms. Freedom to live in this great country and farm this great land. A bad day on this farm is still better than a good day elsewhere. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. 🇺🇸

Hubby is right they keep building and the water can't get into the ground so it goes down the rivers and creeks.

That's why the last few years most states have passed laws that subdivisions and malls with large parking lots must have holding ponds to slow the rising water

When you cover the ground with cement and asphalt and building then the water runoff has nowhere to
go but to the lowest point, aka: rivers and creeks.

The sun was shining the birds were singing. It wasn't all easy but what a great life. I love watching your family your not just raising crops your raising great kids and I am so proud of you. I was raised on a farm where a creek and river met. I was born in 1960. And we had a major flood in 1983 and 1987. It came, of course, from a lot of rain but, mostly from flood gates from a lake up the creek being opened with no regard to us down the creek. It was the beginning of the end to our farming. Hang in there. Trust in the lord. And hold each other tight. Much love and prayers from SW Oklahoma.❤❤❤❤

Mother Nature can be so cruel at times. That’s what makes Farmers the toughest people I know. Here in Alberta farmers are just finishing combining last years crop, because of a wet fall and early winter. Yet they just plant a new crop and try again. Hats off to all of you!

I am not a Farmer, but I have a great respect for Farmers and what it takes to make a farm work. It's a 7 day 24 hr. a day job that is subject to all kinds of weather and equipment breakdowns. In this day and age there are so many folks that don't have a clue where their food comes from or what it takes to produce it. Farmers are strong and independent people and this country is blessed to have them. Thanks for showing the rest of us real world day to day farm life. You go Meredith !

You are absolutely right about the gift of strength this will give your son and daughter. I grew up on a poor dairy during tough times. What I learned is that after farming, everything is easy and low stress. I love the experience of it, and am glad to still be a part of ag, even if that isn’t being on a farm anymore.

You have the most amazing, wonderful, and positive attitude and spirit! I love watching your videos because they bring back so many memories, of my growing up on a farm. I was absolutely so touched by the words you shared at the end of this video. Watching Austin stand there and look over the flooded field that her mom and dad had put so much work into, as you spoke those words, practically broke my heart. I am a 64 year old man and I cried, wondering what was going through her young mind. I am all too familiar with the life of a farm family. There are joys, pride, and appreciation. And there are also frustrations and struggles. But we keep our faith and we move on. As you would say, "keep rakin' & rollin'! I wish you and your family the very best. And hope that ya'll continue to be blessed. Because, if you stop and think about the big picture, we are all blessed.

I know you may never see or read this but, I stayed awake all night after watching this video, thinking how much I enjoyed growing up on a farm. With rain, hail and drought we never knew if we would be able to harvest a crop to provide feed for the cattle. Your farm is all most the same as ours in the upstate SC. We had a JD 4440, 4640, 4020 and a 2640 w/loader. Three silage pits, two grain bens, 280 acres, with two 50 acre river bottoms. We use to raise and feed out 150 head of cattle. My mom, dad, my brother and I worked, as you family does, feeding and looking after the cattle everyday. I decided that it was to difficult to be a farmer. So, I left the farm and went to college and got my BS and MS in electrical engineering. I would visit my dad farm every chance I would get and help as much as I could. After all of that that I accomplished, I realized that life is tough regardless if you are a farmer or an engineer or whatever. My heart still longs for the farm. My parents have since past away but, with the good and the bad, the happiest time of my life was on that farm. My dad would say keep your chin up and keep on keeping on. You comment at the end off your video was touching and inspiring. Thanks for sharing your “Real” with the rest of us.

Thank you for your quote to the veterans and those still serving! We all have the same goals to keep America free! I served 10 yrs and am quite proud of this country! Still feel as thought I am serving and untill respect and dignity prevails we all will be! Am very sorry that mother nature isn't being very kind to your crop land! Don't cry, that will only add to the rising waters!!

22 minutes in my heart sank for you guys. Then an old man cried until the end. All that hard work prepping and planning gone another year. Remember the Good Lord never puts more on your shoulders than you can handle, but it’s hard to accept sometimes. I know you guys will once again overcome and prevail because your that strong and determined. May God Bless and look over your wonderful family.

One thing to point out for those not familiar with farming, crop insurance usually doesn’t cover the lost income, it pays for the inputs put into it. There is insurance that can cover income, but it’s not cheap.

River bottom land is good...I climb cotton stalks when I was 12 years old to pull the cotton in north east Texas...but farming is farming. Glad to see you only needed a band aid by the end of the video Meridith 😊. What a wonderful family ❤ from Texas. The owner was getting almost 3 bails per acre.

This is great on hair cuts, my mom did this when I was a kid. My barber said a barber friend of his has a mobile barber shop out in West Texas and at 35.00 a cut to oil field workers. He just parks at a cross road. One day I was driving through Rocksprings, TX. and seen this barber. He is on the right track about the flooding, all this new subdivisions are changing the way water has naturally flowed for many years. Be Blessed and enjoy life.
