    I love the way so many people suggest buying this or that to improve things or make things easier. All of those suggestions are great-just send money with the suggestion.
    Have a great day!!

    • @VonArens
      @VonArens 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's an fair suggestion tho, the F2 is about 40 years (depending on production year) old and the prices arent eccentric (4k to 8k estimate). It's all a question about what the farms needs (not worth getting a class 9 or 10 combine for a tiny farm) vs the money & time cost of fixing something older (if you wanna get real fancy you can add efficiency on top of that question). :)

      Why spend 20 grand on something that sits in the shed for 50-51 weeks ovf the year. No maka da sence to me. We have a 1644 Inter with a 25 ft front and we only harvest 500 acres. No point trying to keep up with the Joneses all the time, it just dont make sence. Your area looks beautiful.

      @@stevenowen4150 I agree with your comment to a degree, but they are probably saying things like that, because old breaking down farm tools/equip does in fact cost TIME & MONEY. IF every year your spending 1,000 hours fixing broke down equipment weekly/monthly/yearly all of that TIME adds up to mean a great deal with production as an end result of farming, to some farmers. Don't get me lying I am not a farmer, but money is something almost anyone with a little effort applied can understand. That was just the time factor alone, now add those repair hours + the minor cost they have for fixing broken stuff, it could very well be staggering, almost hurting their farm in many ways, not to mention adding unneeded stress to everyone involved on the farm. Lot's of variables go into farming efficiently, not just Does this machine start up? They seem happy based on the videos, so that's what I go off, their happiness in the videos, because that is what we are technically being presented with, not just farming videos. I still get what your saying though totally, but what we see in videos isn't always the reality of real life for each farm, so hard to tell on some things.

    • @videoreal7072
      @videoreal7072 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most of us Americans live by the motto "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", which is why we are so hard-headed. I'd probably be using those as well if they served their purpose daily, but the more time your repairing things the less time your being productive, so much of it makes sense with people's opinions. Would be nice though if every suggestion came with a donation, that'd be sweet XD.

      Me to in fact I think we all need to start praying for many blessings to come their way. In proverbs I have read how the power of life and death is in the power of the tongue. What we speak really matters. Speak blessings and not what you don't want. Look for the things you DO want and not what you don't want. Like what's next? Don't say what's next just say, thank You God for blessings that are coming our way and I am thanking You NOW for them because You did say ask and ye shall receive. I rebuke satan from our farm and praying that God helps things not to tear up so much. Blessings and thank You God because we know where they all come from!!!

    I admire you for being able to keep a smile on your face when hard times usually wipe them off in an instant. You're living proof that a frown fixes nothing more than showing everyone else that you're upset. If upset made farmers frown, you'd never see a smile from any of them. Making a small farm work means you have to use older equipment that breaks down a lot and you have to fix it yourself.

    I grew up around farming as my uncles, on my mothers side, all had cows, horses, pigs, chickens, and they raised some of their own feed. My father was an engineer on the railroad and would pick up corn, wheat, and other grains that would spill out of the railcars in the switching yard, and give it to my uncles. Any time they butchered a pig or a bull, it was a family affair and we got part of it. They also had big gardens for vegetables, fields of watermelons, and groves of plumbs and pears. Planting and harvest was also a family affair and was shared with the rest of the family who also helped. We did not have any live stock but did board horses in the back part of our property. It was my job to see that they were fed and watered, which I got paid for by the owners. To us kids it was all fun, and later own I learned it was also educational. We did not have air conditioning and was use to working in the mid 90s with humidity also in the 90s. I learned to drive a tractor when I was around 10 years old. Even did some plowing in the small gardens with a single plow pulled by a horse. My grandfather, on my mothers side, came from Belgium in the early 1900s and brought over a bunch of sharecroppers to work his plantation in central Louisiana. We found out a few years ago that in the beginning it was over 10,000 acres. He sold a lot of it to the state for highways and my mother and her siblings inherited what was left. That is where I grew up. My mother always had a very small garden where she grew, corn and okra with green beans next to them, tomatoes, and squashes. To this day I can remember how much better fresh vegetables tasted than the ones bought in stores today. Today I’m only 30 minutes from the Louisiana Super Dome but my home borders about a 1,000 acres of sugarcane. Would not change any of it.

    When I was 7 years old my dad had me getting tools for him when he worked on the equipment. I learned how to mechanic on the tractors and the truck. He taught me how to use a stick welder to fix brackets and frames. We didn't have a lot of money to hire things fixed, so we did a lot ourselves. I still do a lot of work myself, but I am well aware of my limitations to only go as far as my knowledge and experience will take me. Your son is learning life skills he will never forget.

    Its called a straw walker because with it shaking back and forwards and going up and down at the back end it causes the straw to be throw up and back every time it goes around once. it walks the straw out, one saw tooth at a time hence the name. it allows the grain to be shaken out of the bulk straw and the grain falls back down the middle of the walker to the inside of the combine to where it is collected.. Wesley did a heck of a job getting up inside to fasten bolts etc. Any technician will tell you it is just about the nastiest job on a combine. Big responsibility on a young fellows shoulders.

    After farming for many years and literally repairing,building, adapting,inventing everything out of sheer necessity, lack of money, lack of actual parts or machines; I can say farmers are some of the most resourceful and intelligent people out there. It makes me fume when people say stupid farmer statements, as they have no idea of the investment in time, money, and heart that it takes. I gained such a broad educational experience that few even grasp the capacity of a farmer. Having a supportive family and wife is an absolute necessity and blessing. Never cuss a farmer, especially with your mouth full.

The Gleaner sure did a nice job picking up that downed barley, it's plain to see that those small problems w/ it are the result of the previous owner not taking care of it like it should have been. Those beef burgers looked awesome by the way. Enjoy your family farm life as you all are sitting on top of the world. It's hot & humid here in north central WI too, the cut hay lays there like a wet washcloth even w/ tedding.

    Yes long sleeves shirts are better than short sleeve shirts in the summer it acts like a ac when you sweat plus it protects your arms from scrapes and cuts if you rub up against something

    I grew up on a farm and ranch in north central Nebraska (yes--and Angus cows too!). My dad always wore denim long sleeve shirts and denim pants all year round. He also wore short sleeved t-shirts in the summer and long sleeve in the winter--but all under the denim shirt. He too said the sweat in the cloth helped keep him cool in the summer.
    You are so cool and fun to watch. It brings back a lot of great memories of growing up on the farm/ranch. I really enjoy your channel. Btw--don't get down on yourself--you have got it all!!!

    Taking off the barley in the hot and humid weather reminds me of those days sweating and itchy couldn't wait to get a shower and cool off. I watched your video on the sweet potato salad and intend to make it soon. The grill looks good hope it last a long time.🍠🍠🍠

    Just remember to turn the tank knob first and when done, it gets turned off last or it will go into a "hobble" mode and will not get hot as you would like. It's a safety thing, they say.

    I am no fan of summer either, but we are a few degrees cooler than where you are. It is "only" forecasted to be between 86 and 95 the next 10 days, add the humidity and we're getting up into the 100's too. It is so heart wrenching watching the break downs on Gerdie. I know she is your pride and joy, but it must be so frustrating and honestly, I don't know how LB keeps his cool in all this. Oh, and don't worry about the language police, I speak and sometimes write YankeeDutch, and don't care. If they don't understand, they'll ask again.

    Just watched “barley 3”. I have been watching your two channels for a couple months and thoroughly enjoy your sagas. I’m a retired engineer who grew up in small town SD in the ‘50’s. Didn’t farm but helped my father who ran a grain elevator. Thus, I had a few farmer related skills including tending chickens and a a half acre garden. Got my degree in civil engineering and built roads, bridges, water & sewer systems all over the world for 50 years. Lived in Richmond, VA for 16 years and maintained I-95, I-81 & I77 for VDOT. Also travelled I95 to SC & FL performing maintenance on I-95. I chuckled when you commented about corn being “knee high by the 4th of July.” Took a photo of my wife at a corn field about 50’ from my house on the edge of Sioux Falls, SD where we now live. July 2 and the corn is waist high.
    I just learned today that there is anew definition for social distancing - it’s called living in South Dakota.
    Keep up your great work. Farming is an honorable profession for your family.
