We always attached a chain around the rear axle of the combine, long enough so a couple links to drag on the ground. Helps keep the static electricity down which attracts the dust to the windows.

Here in michigan My grandfather and i ran a gleaner f combine for years doing custom work as well as our land . Our farm grew from 300 acres to 5200 in the last 25 years. We now run 2 combines a johndeere s680 combine and a 9870sts both with 40 foot draper headers. We have started wheat today we have 800 acres. We will double crop those 800 acres with soybeans. Those gleaner combines run great and last long . It makes me sad when I see them because it reminds me of my grandfather and i. He passed away 3 years ago at 96 . I remember all the noise and dust but I remember those days when I'm in our newer machines. Good looking crop and machine alike. Nice video stay safe and farm on my friends !

You know a rake can actually work quite well for pulling large piles of corn.
I work grading potatoes and we move a lot of dirt/sand (place is dusty) in the course of a day. We pull lots of sandy dirt and potatoes from under the rig (that we grade the potatoes when they come out of the fields. Our primary tools are rakes, shovels (and squeegees when washing) metal rakes work well for pulling. And for PUSHING potatoes and large piles of dirt they made a tool that would work like a squeegee but for spuds or dirt. Hope that can help for future😁

Always looking for the positive and if one thing breaks ya just repair it or find something else that will get the job done. You work together- the whole family is in it for each other and it’s magical to watch. I’ll pray for you. For no more floods, for Gerdie to continue to run smooth, for the right weather at the right time, for each piece of equipment to work when called upon and for just general good blessings. If that's a John Deere 790 tractor you're using for the grain auger, there's a switch underneath the seat you pull up on to disconnect the safety feature of needing weight on the seat to run it. Leave the seat tilted forward though when you're running it because it pushes the switch back down when you put the seat back down. I had the same tractor and had the same problem while running a generator off the PTO.

  • @cheekymonkey666

Meredith it's amazing how much work a small family can accomplish when they work together . it looks like you wear your dirt well 🤠 the most important piece of equipment on the farm is the lady that somehow keeps things going created by God himself and they are the most priceless treasure a man can have a teammate thanks for sharing

Bernard why don't you put 2 spade connectors on a 5 inch piece of wire. Flip JD Seat forward unplug seat safety switch and plug jumper wire in.
Save you ripping seat or stacking all those concrete blocks on the seat 👍💙😀

I know you get into your work but it's easier to clean the windshield with a rag instead of your body, but it's cute. The corn container is looking great. Hope you get the barley finished. It seems like it rains when you don't want it and doesn't rain when you do. Welcome to farming.

You churned up another one of my memories of living on a farm in NW South Carolina thirty plus years ago. It was the hotter than blazes heat and humidity. A storm coming in would play games with everyone’s head as we would be fooled every time as we would think that a storm would cool everything down. WRONG! It just got hotter and more humid! On the good side though, the rain made the honey suckle smell so good at night. How the heck does Lawrence wear those long sleeved shirts while working in that heat during the summer months?

    Turtle-rock! 🐢 😂🤣
It’s fun watching the harvest from inside the combine.
If you ever retire Gerty, maybe you can put her in the Smithsonian! It’s an antique. 😃😁

a standard floor mop is 2 feet wide or more. They make versions that are 12 inches or 16 inches that work wonders for cleaning combine and tractor windows when it is just dry dust you are trying to clear. you can do a custom carve on the handle to make it fit inside the operator cabin where it isnt in the way

Haha, now I understand your insta story, lol. Very impressed to see you dive right in and get all dusty and greasy (looked good on you:)). It is very frustrating when the weather throws a wrench in your plans during the busy harvest season. But in the end, we know that the good Lord will always provide for our needs. looking forward to part 2 of "busting barley"

GIVE THE CHAIN TIME TO GET SHINE UP SO IT CAN CONDUCT STATIC ELECTRICITY TO THE GROUND. There is a round hook in the middle of the rear axle to hook the chain to.

Meredith, if you guys have a walk behind snowblower, it makes a great grain shovel. Spin the chute forward and away you go.
We had a tandem axle dump trailer loaded with 35,000 lbs of corn and the hydraulic blew out. Hand shoveling wasn’t appealing to me when I thought about the snowblower. Works like a champ.
