  • Firing up the Hydronic water heater for the first time. The standard hot water tank was removed by the previous owner and he installed the Hurricane II Hydronic Diesel hot water and cabin heater. I have not started it up until today as I admit I was a bit nervous. Lack of hot water in the showers at Marina La Cruz took its toll and I was pushed to start it up with some surprising results. The previous owner said it was the best upgrade he made to the boat and now I can see why. The last five minutes of the video is funny, my 10 year old next door neighbour offered his help when I wanted to mount a fishing rod holder to my dingy ( yes the thieves did not come back for a second attempt to steal it ). we managed to fit it but it came at a cost !

    With your "new" heater you have just expanded your sailing territory immensely! Good on you!!

      Very true , I was genuinely surprised when it only took 3-5 mins to heat the water . Amazing !

      Trent is very polite and grown up for a 10 year old . People on the dock try and keep him occupied 😀

    Ever considered adding a mini garden to your deck? Microgreens grow in short time. Can add some fresh greens to your diet. Heck I'd get a tomato plant! Wind guard is secret to success.

    Do you have a preference between the Hunter 42 and the Catalina 42? I love your videos. Bill

      You’ve said that a marina berth in Mexico is about $1100/mo. Is that in LaPaz? We want to leave a boat in the SOC for a full winter. Will we be able to move the boat around?

      @@williambonnheim Hi William, for a 42 foot boat its around US$1100 a month in Marina de La Paz, La Cruz and Barre de Navidad on the mainland. Marina Palmira , Marina cortez and costa baha are slightly more expensive around another 50-100 bucks. Thats in the water. You can haul them in several places throughout the SOC and store them on land. Cant give you prices as I have never needed to do this as I live aboard. Marina's are exceptionally busy both summer and winter seasons. Book well in advance would be my suggestion. Some marinas , Mazatlan and La Cruz offer 40% + discounts for the summer ( hurricane) season but they are both on the mainland. Hope this helps

    Is the slip rental 1100 pesos or us dollars?

      Hi Steve, its US$. Getting a slip in Mexico is very expensive and hard to get, both on the mainland and Baja side. The marinas are jammed packed full.

    Hi, I just found the channel last night - that catalina seems to be a much more beamy boat than the old hunter or the Vancouver you had before. Is it and how is it different to sail? Also what's that large chrome wheel at the back of the boat - it looks like it sgot webbing spooled on to it, what's that for?
    Lastly why would a kiwi with the seemingly nice weather you guys get down there wanna go to mexico? (grin) Isn't it similar conditions usually?

      @sailingmilagro  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The catalina is probably slightly moor beamy than the 42 hunter but not as beamy as the 466. The tayana was old school but was sea kindly, took a fair bit of wind to get her going.. Of the boats Ive owned the Catalina is the easiest and definitely the fastest, it has the flattest bottom. The webbing cylinder is for use when securing to a tree from the stern. I believe this is a method more used in the pacific northwest. I guess you could also use it to deploy a stern anchor. Its cold in NZ, the weather is shitty and damp and above all expensive to live. Mexico has great weather, very cheap living and has a bigger cruising community.. Tacos rule !!!
