Amazing video!. I’m heading to the Navien factory in Toronto in two weeks to go over all this. I think you’re pretty much covered it all. Maybe I could save some money ha ha ha.
TH-cam gold! This video was incredibly helpful as I'm about to DIY a Bosch combi unit to replace a 35 year old natural gas guzzler. A single zone system so not too complicated. Any thoughts on the quality of Bosch Singular system? Your feedback is appreciated.
This is the video I’ve been looking for! Thank you for sharing! I need to replace my combi system and the plumbers here want charge me $6000 for the Navien unit and another $10k to install it. I will definitely be reaching out to you soon about a consultation.
Hello, I’ve been watching a lot of your videos and really enjoy how you explain everything and how clean and organized your set ups are. I was curious if you could let me know what those brackets are called that you use to hold up the pipes? Also, what is the part number or name of the check valve and feed fitting that brings water into the system? Thank you very much for your response and help
Split ring clamps and ceiling plates. You can use a dual check backflow preventer for the water feed. Email me at speranzadevelopment@gmail.com if you'd like a design and parts lists or consulting on a build.
Excellent video. Thank you. Is mixing valve needed for TILED (PEX inside the mud job) in floor radiant heat? Or is it only applicable for under hardwood floors?
You don't want the floor surface temp to go above 85 degrees. You can run an max of about 125 degree water supply to the floor to achieve this. If this is the only zone on the boiler you can just adjust the boiler supply temp and you won't need a mixing valve.
So I have a question about combi boiler sizes. Id like to do a combi on a 2200 sf radiant heated slab in northern Indiana. How do you figure out what size boiler is needed to take care of the slab heat and domestic? Does a larger boiler use more gas than a smaller one in the 6 months or so that the slab heat isnt on? Is it better to get two separate boilers? Thank you
Hello, I was surprised to see the manifold was open the whole way through. Maybe you can help me understand, why are the supply and return loops piped together outside the boiler? What does that do for the system? I answered my own question..... THAT'S A MIXING VALVE. Great video
i have a customer with one of those big boilers, do you have a video about how to replace it with one of those little ones like the one you have in the video? this a house from the 70's
Do you have a video on the proper settings? I have installed 2 of these and both are using an abnormally high amount of gas. Your videos are extremely helpful but it would be nice to walk through the proper settings for the most efficient setup.
I have a very old , 2 zone crane system and need a new system. I don’t see your email address to order. Great video. Thanks and look forward to getting new unit
Good evening, I have a question I was hoping you can help me answer. I have the same combi boiler installed and I tired to do my yearly flush. On the domestic side it went no problem, I recirculated the descaled for 45 minutes, but when I tried to do the main heater exchanger flush I was unable to do so because the water would not circulate. Almost as if the three way valve inside was just stuck closed. How do I open that valve so I can circulate the descaled through the heat exchanger? Any input would be really appreciated. I’m stuck I have no idea how to get past this step. PLEASE HELP.
Absolutely. Glycol is used only when necessary to prevent freezing if the system may not be running all the time or if there is concern for power loss for long intervals.
@@JimSperanza thank you, my system is completely new and constructed with copper and PEX for heating.. is it necessary to add a Navi clean? I have a 240/130H boiler
A combi is a boiler that provides heating and domestic hot water from the same unit. I typically use pumps for each zone because they are close to the cost of a zone valve and if a pump goes down you don't lose every heating zone.
SOLID GOLD VIDEO MY BROTHER . Thanks for taking the time to post and be thorough.

Very clean man. I’m impressed. Getting ready to build a house and watching your videos is helping better understand a cleaner board!

I always installed the shut-off valve and unions for the circulators.

The manifold is used to hydraulically seperates the flow through the boiler and the flow through the heating zones.
Do you have a list of parts to buy just like that 2 zone you have laid out on the floor to the right and is that a 4 by 4 plywood

Nice woek Jim. Quick question where would the colde water supply line go in your system does it need a pressure reducer before it gets there
no magnetic filter? always put one on any high eff boiler

Does the backflow preventor on the feed valve need to be lead free? Mind divulging what model you use?
It does not. It's only for the boiler fill portion. I use a dual check.

Is it safe to use only water in the heating side or must it be mixed with glycol ?

@@dillonkoonjoo3667 they are a great insurance policy and can tell you what's going on in the system.
I was wondering, can you hook multiple units at the same exhaust and air intake?
Yes, it's called a common vent system. It's in the manual.
what size copper did you use on this build, for the main manifolds and the pump supplys
A mix of 1.25, 1 and 3/4
@@JimSperanza what is the manifold adapters part numbers for the 1.25 press fitting? Thank you
i guess you are using the built in Navien water feed system as opposed to external?
Yes
What is a combi boiler? Haven't heard of that. Why have circulation pumps on each zone rather than valves?

I'm looking to where I connect 24vt zone wiring on 240/130h circuit board
Only thing I would’ve done different is add ballvalves to each side of my mixing valve in case it ever goes bad. That way it’s an easy fix for later.

Can you link the drill copper reamer please?

what about a magnetic filter?
Navien is very complicated to deal. I got error code 12 doesn't go away. I change many parts already.
You should have an hvac technician check it out and they can contact navien customer support if needed.
Shouldn’t used pt indoors either as it has a lot chemicals that you wouldn’t want mixing with indoor air . There used to be arsenic in old stuff .
I do not use pressure treated plywood ever for these builds.
