  • Walkthrough of pristine Hallberg Rassy 46, interesting discussion on how Chris the owner spent 2 years preparing and upgrading the boat for his imminent departure from Mexico to the Marquesas on a 3,000nm passage. We talk about crew dynamics, anxiety and fears.

    did the pacific passage in 2010 with my brother and myself on a 42 with two friends from LA to Brisbane, best times of my life. Sadly brother and I sold the boat 3 years ago. we were lucky with crew dynamics, everyone balanced each other with respect and everyone shared roles! best of luck with the passage

      Yes if you get the right mix it’s great . Not always the case though 😀

    You have the absolute best boat to cross oceans with, and also with the best interior option. Correct aft ruff and armchairs! Once you get used to them, you'll never want to be without them!

    I love the Rassy!
    I also love the center cockpit at anchor but prefer rear cockpit at sea.
    Excellent point about sea birth vs lounging chairs.

    • @sailingmilagro
      @sailingmilagro  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes the chairs are a misguided design, Rassys go around the world not sit entertaining in marinas

      @@sailingmilagro exactly,! Rassy has compromised . The early models all had pilot birth’s designed for heavy weather.

      Sadly, most HRs are purchased by old rich couples, and they don’t circumnavigate

    Nice boat! I’m jealous of all the upgrades. Probably cost as much as the original price of the boat all told.
    Great insight on finding crew. I’ll be moving on to my boat sometime this year, God willing, and as an older single woman single handing is a bit of a daunting challenge, but so is finding compatible crew. 🤷‍♀️.
    Good work on the videos. Keep ‘em coming. Re the curse words, I try to refrain from using them, but once in awhile one slips out. 😮😊

      The curse word slip through the editing. I’m going to have to go back through the video as I haven’t spotted it yet although two people have picked up on it .Not sure it was me or Chris at this point .

    I really enjoyed the start of the video as HR is my favourite boat …. But alas just 6 minutes in my ears were attacked by a completely unnecessary blasphemous word!
    I’m sorry I have to comment about this but your videos are watched by households like mine that do not use blasphemy or cussing and it’s a pity cos otherwise it’s a great channel!

      Never saw the name of his boat on the walk-through. By-the-way, I think your walk-through, and “interview”was well done, honest, to the point, and informative. T

    Wow! There was time that a 30 foot boat was considered big & people crossed oceans only with a sextant. Sorry, but you see to me as a tad over cautious. Your way over prepared: now go for it. Solo if necessary.

    Looks really old and dated with screed down teak decks and old fashioned interior so I would go with 1980s or something like that. Maybe late 70s??

    Nice rig and he looks like he's all set to go. I wonder if he knows how big of an issue it will be for the crew if they're NOT all vegetarian. For example if its just him and everyone else has a "normal" diet - it'll be a big issue ....... Food on a boat goes one of two ways - no one gives it a second thought or its a big deal. He'll find out ! (grin)

    • @sailingmilagro
      @sailingmilagro  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good point on the vegetarian side but Chris is aware of this, so the crew are going to do the provisioning to ensure they are catered for. Not sure what Chris will eat when the veggies and fruit run out half way through a 30 day crossing ?
